And land transport. I want to see bicycles, cars, motorbikes, horses and whatever before I want to see planes. I know we have the V3S but it's not good enough.

Armored, silent, ninja, stealth zombies + no loot = win?I
Sebidee replied to Insane Ruffles's topic in General Discussion
I'm certainly not enjoying the new zombies. I really like the stealth system but it's not 100% fool proof, you will occasionally still need to fight zombies. Right now the zombies are taking 3 or 4 hits with a fireaxe to kill. The are also far too quick and can catch me when I'm sprinting flat out. Running from them is difficult and fighting them is difficult and the combination is really irritating. Lately the are silent too. Several times I have been crouched in a field looking through my inventory just to be suddenly attacked from behind by a zombie. No! that's too much. Zombies need to be easier to kill with melee weapons, not just with fireaxes but with ALL of them. I read somewhere that it takes 21 head shots to kill them with a crowbar, fighting them with a baseball bat, knife, machete, wrench etc. is practically impossible. That is not realistic or good gameplay, Obviously I would like to see them be slower too so that I can sprint away, I really don't like how they will follow me for a half a mile. Traditionally zombie's biggest strength is volume and that's been true for every zombie film, game or zombie anything ever made. Weak but numerous, that's what they need to be. Not solo and tanks. -
15 apples a day keep the doctor away...
Sebidee replied to WolfgangErikson's topic in General Discussion
I was saying this on another thread, what we have now is lots of apples trees but few apples. It should be the other way around, we should have few apple trees but lots of apples. The idea of only one apple being on a tree is silly, if you've ever had an apple tree in your back yard then you'll know that they produce hundreds and so should the ones in game. Right now there is an apple orchard in most towns. What we need is to only have 3 or 4 orchards on the entire map with hundreds of apples in each. Then those few orchards will be high loot zones like military bases that will attract players. Picking apples will be a good way of getting food but will be very dangerous. If you want to eat apples then you better be sneaky or at least bring some serious fire power. -
I can get that. Still would not want to see gunships or apache helicopters though. Small light aircraft for transport rather than fighting would be the way to go, I don't think geared up players need to have even more of an advantage over fresh spawns.

For Everyone Complaining About The Loot........
Sebidee replied to Bush_Wookieing_101's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I really don't understand farming. The last thing I'm going to do in a zombie apocalypse is start tending a pumpkin patch. They really grow in 15 minutes? Wow, realism. Better hunting, better fishing, that's what we need. -
For Everyone Complaining About The Loot........
Sebidee replied to Bush_Wookieing_101's topic in General Discussion
Maybe they should have a more intelligent way of making it difficult to find food rather than just making the drops rare. You know, they could expand hunting, fishing, foraging, you know, skill based things. Not just random drops based on luck. Thousands of players are dying of starvation as fresh spawns and getting massively frustrated. You guys say it's ok because you personally were lucky enough to find something. It's like a fat guy looking at some starving african children and saying "What are you talking about? There's tons of food!" Nah. The game is in development. Sometimes the devs will accidentally break something during development and we are not obligated to enjoy it. You all look kind of foolish praising the game and the devs for a development hiccup. -
Why does everyone only deal in extremes? If you play Day z you are either a hardcore survivalist or a 12 year old COD player who just wants to pvp. Do you guys not get that there are like 8 stages of player in between that? Having a game cater exclusively to one end of the spectrum is not good. Exactly.

In the very first line of your post you said that complainers shouldn't be listened to because they don't talk like adults. You then called me ignorant and an asshole. Stopped reading after that. You know it's going to bad when people are blatantly hypocritical. Why is everyone so aggressive here? Look you're exactly what you I was talking about. You proved me completely right look at this: And then you say: So basically anyone who is not mega-elite needs to shut up and learn how to play the game your way. However, at the same time anyone who tries to dictate how the game should be made/played is an idiot. What? You also repeated what the other guys said and claimed that you find complaints offensive because they are angry and impolite. You express this in an angry and impolite way. Jesus christ dude, at least try to make sense.

1) That's not really what I was saying about apples. I'm not talking about thier nutritional value, I'm talking about thier distribution. Right now we have many apple trees but few apples. It should be the other way around with few apples trees and many apples. When you see an apple tree you should know that there definitely will be food, however, having specific places on the map with good loot will inevitably cause players to congregate making apple orchards very dangerous. That's something I think would be great. 2) I agree that you should have a balanced died. Eat the right things and you should shoot straghter, run faster, hit harder and survive more serious injury. But that's not what I'm talking about here, I'm talking about avoiding starvation. You should be able to live but in a weakened state from eating only one kind of food. Again, this rewards good players but does not necessarily fatally punish bad players which is how I think the game should be. 3) I don't know much about stone knives, how do you get them? (In case you're wondering I don't get a lot of time to play and have been particularly busy for the the last few updates). 4) Agree with you about the animals. Making the necessary equipment rare and making animals rare is a lazy way of making hunting difficult. It should be all about shooting and sneaking, not luck. 5) Yeah, more ways of fishing would be good. And again, don't make it difficult just by making the needed loot rare. Make it difficult because of the patience required to sit there at the edge of a pond. 6) No, no, no, no. That's not what I said. The stockpiles are SURROUNDED by zombies. That is the reason they are left untouched. I think it would such a cool feature in the game to have zombie hotspots where they are particularly concentrated and guarding some kind of rare loot. It would be like a mini game. Have you ever watched the walking dead? Whenever they need something specific they always need to go somewhere and fight zombies. I would love for that to be a feature in Day z as well. Actually getting to the massive stash should be extremely difficult. I'm talking hundreds of zombies inside and outside of the building. It would be a job for multiple players with high grade weapons and a lot of coordination. It would not be easy. Doesn't that sound like a more satisfying way of suddenly getting a lot of food than just stumbling across it in the woods?

I'm hating the 0.55 elitists right now. Elitists are people who seem to be proud of themselves for playing the game when it is at its worst, as if playing a boring and unfun game is somekind of moral virtue. Elitists are the ones who claim that the only way to not enjoy the game is if you are bad at it and then proceed to list all of the guns they have. Right now the game is broken, loot spawning is broken, zombies are a nightmare. Yet, if you go onto any thread on the forum you will somehow find people who claim that they love it for being so difficult. It's such a strange way of bragging. "I'm so good at day z that I can survive even when it's broken". Yeah, good for you. Also I hate how everyone who isn't an elitist is somehow a Call of Duty playing 12 year old. It's such a lazy and ignorant insult. Do people not realise that there are tons of different kinds of players? The elitists are difficulty lovers who like to play games at the highest difficulty for a sense of achievement. That's ok but you have got to realise that roleplayers, simulators, PvPers, Casuals and, yes, 12 year olds also need to be catered for in any game. Enforcing your own playstyle as the only playstyle is like some kind of video game fascism. I don't understand why people seem to be so offended by complaints either. Most complaints I see are not from people raging or quitting. It's constructive criticism or else genuine expressions of frustration based on defined aspects of the game. YES. We know the game isn't finished but what are we supposed to do? Wait until it is finished and then complain? that's nonsense. Now is the perfect time to complain. We should point out aspects of the game that don't work or are bad. BECAUSE THIS IS THE TIME THAT THE DEVS CAN MOST EASILY FIX THEM. Forgive me for using bold and capitals here but I really want people to hear this. SAYING THAT THE GAME WILL BE FINE WHEN IT IS FINISHED IS INCREDIBLY DUMB We don't know that. Maybe it won't be. The devs could add bad mechanics and not know they are bad because the elitists shout down opposition. We need to be able to comment on and discuss new features as they are added. When something about the game is wrong in your eyes (like food rarity or zombie strength in 0.55) then the most helpful thing you can do and must do is voice your opinion. The devs want to know what we think. You guys are saying that you should not complain, you should stand by day z through thick and thin and trust that it will be the way you like it on release. Look, everyone knows the game is not finished, EVERYONE knows that. But pretending that the game is fun or enjoyable when the devs add bad features is not helpful for them. Ignoring bad features or oversights or gaps or opportunities to make the game better is definitely not helpful. By completely ignoring the quality of the game and of its individual features during development and actively trying to bully critics off the forum you are hurting the game, you're hurting day z. End of story.

Yeah that's definitely a problem that they need to get round to fixing, here's things I think they should change: Apple Picking I don't know about you but the idea of picking one apple off a tree just seems insane. Anyone who has had an apple tree in their garden will know that those things produce so many apples that 90% of them will end up rotting on the ground. Also, apples don't need to be ripe to eat. Basically an orchard should be a food goldmine. So, rather than making it rare for apple trees to drop apples they should make orchards rare. Right now there are orchards in most towns and each one has very few apples. Make it so that there are only a few orchards on the map, then you will turn a simple orchard into a pvp zone as dangerous as a military base, which would be fun. I believe that starving should not be possible if you have the balls/skill to face real danger. Hunting First of all the knife requirement needs to go (unless it has already?). I've killed several animals in my time but never skinned one because I never had a knife on me, even though I had things like fire axes. No one is asking you to cut perfect steaks, just strips of meat. Secondly the ridiculous cooking pot requirement needs to go, when you are able to cook with on a stick then that will be good. It shouldn't be difficult to light a fire either. Matches and cigarette lighters should be common as dirt. You should also have the ability to track animals. It could be an option you get when looking directly at the ground. Scroll and select "track" and you will either get 1) There are no animals nearby, 2) there was an animal here some time ago 3) there is an animal nearby. The three outcomes could be based on how close you are to an animal, you get option 2 if there is one within a 500m radius, and option 3 if there is one in a 100m radius. That would help to make animal hunting less of a lottery. The difficulty with animals is that they should be difficult to kill. Killing a deer, cow or a boar with one shot in the ass is silly! Head or neck shots should be the only way to take it down in one shot. That way you will need to be patient and skill-full to be able to sneak up on an animal to get a good shot. If you miss or get a body shot then the animal should run away, punishing impatient players. Fishing Fishing should be the easiest way of getting food but also the most boring. Firstly you should not need a shovel to get worms (dig them up with your fingers you pansy) you also should not need a fishing lure, just a bit of wire that you can fashion into a hook. Then with a long stick (avaliable from selecting trees with no axe requirment!) and a rope (very commonly avaliable item) fishing should be possibe. You will not need a gun or anything else, the item requirements should be easy. The drawback with fishing is that it should be boring and take a long time. It will be possible to get food easily enough but the time requirement should be enough to discourage most players who would rather hunt or take on the pvp orchards. Canned food Canned and preserved food should be very rare in houses since they will already have been picked clean. However, there should be parts of the map where food is stockpiled in large amounts like at supermarkets, refugee camps, the prison, or military camps. The problem should be that each of these places have HORDES of zombies. It should be the most difficult way of getting food but also the most rewarding. If a player can manage to shoot or sneak his way past 200 zombies then he deserves to never be hungry again.
-
I think a helicopter would just be one of those things that I would never ever get my hands on but would give luckier players a massive advantge on me, like the Ghillie suit or half the weapons in the game. Maybe light airplanes without weapons wouldn't be too bad. Landing should be difficult and should only be possible at airfields or on the highway at the coast. So basically you could only use airplanes to land at the coast or at 3 inland locations. You can use them to quickly travel across the map but not for landing at peoples bases or to flank in firefights.

Maybe right clicking for 'shoot' I found my first ever V3S yesterday and drove it for exactly 7 seconds. I had a light collision with a picket fence and the thing got stuck! AAAAAGH! I had been playing with my friend on Day Z and he had just quit but we were still talking on team speak I was like "OH MY GOD, get back on Day Z right now! ... never mind". :(

*Sigh* The game is not finished. I KNOW. But the devs should not break the game during development because then people can't play it. In time things will be fixed, real survival based on realistic outdoor manship without ready made food items will be possible. BUT IT IS NOT RIGHT NOW. Until they have the proper mechanics in place they should allow food to spawn. Then people can play their game to give feedback, then people will buy their game to fund development. Playability is necessary for early access alpha. Yes. The environment should kill you, but not in less than 40 minutes. Not when you spawn, live and die with zero equipment. Not because there is no loot. You shouldn't die because you can't find one single item, you should die because of animals, zombies, disease, players and if necessary long, slow starvation. Not 40 minute starvation on speed. If you are to die of starvation then it shouldn't be because there is no food, it should be because you can't get food. Have places where food is stockpiled but fill it with zombies. Then it's not about luck, it's about skill. I'm not saying that's exactly what it should be like, I'm just saying that would be an option that would be preferable to having no food at all. Yes, I want to survive. No, it's not because I want to get a gun and kill people. What I want out of day z is a realistic survival simulator, right now it is not realistic, it is artificially and unnecessarily difficult for no reason.
-
Finally, something I can agree with.
-
Thanks man, genuinely. So many people on this forum are unhelpful. The game is very frustrating as a fresh spawn because it's impossible to survive long enough to have any gear. I've died several times in the last week in under 40 minutes because of starvation, insanely quick and strong zombies and KOS. 90% of the time I've had nothing but pants, shoes and the rags that were my t-shirt. I understand that the game isn't finished and that I will probably love it when it is but I want to be part of the open access and test the new things the devs add during development but I'm unable to do so right now because of the fresh spawn situation. That is incredibly frustrating.
-
Yes. I know that the game is not finished. I'll try that. I just want to make the point that there is nothing desirable about the way the game is now. Surviving, according to scruffy bandit, requires me to spend a very, very long time picking apples and also relies on me being very lucky and finding specific equipment (farming things) based on the rarity of any item what so ever it will make that very unlikely which means that I will likely need to respawn several times. I just want people to get that spending 20 minutes picking apples every time you respawn, does not make a good game. Having to respawn several times (equalling to several hours of gameplay) just to get past the apple picking stage does not make a good game. And ultimately, suffering through the horror of the apples to probably just get KOSed by some kid certainly does not make a good game, Are people actually capable of seeing that? @WhyHero123, Fuck it, I'll just agree with you. Day z is a perfect game, everything about it's current state is absolutely perfect. I find it amazing that BI somehow managed to achieve this WHEN THE GAME IS LESS THAN HALF WAY TO BEING FINISHED, but somehow they did. You know what, the game is so perfect right now that I hope they stop developing and just leave it the way it is. Thank you why hero,
-
By the way, there is another thing I was going to say. How the hell is dying from starvation so quickly realistic? A person can survive for weeks without any food, my character dies in 30 minutes if he doesn't eat. Shouldn't starving take a couple of hours and be more like a disease that slowly debuffs your character and makes him weaker and weaker and weaker until he finally dies? You guys are so proud of your realistic survival simulator yet you don't seem to realise that right now it's not realistic in the slightest.
-
Stop implying that I'm a lazy casual. Here, I'll say this: You are the greatest Day z player, you are a gaming god, you are better than me and everyone else. Ok now can we move on and actually talk about food being broken without having to stroke anyone's ego? It takes so long to find apples that it is not sustainable. If you are lucky you will find only one apple per minute. An apple can only sustain you for like 2 or 3 minutes. So you have to spend 33%-50% of your total time day z playing physically picking apples. And that's if you are lucky. I'm pretty sure it's possible to do nothing but pick apples and still due of starvation. Why was the average survival time in the mod? Because there were players and zombies to deal with of course. Right now the average in Day z is 30 minutes and that's due to starvation alone. You say you found 4 cans, 3 sodas and a bag of rice the last time you played? How is that possible when I've played for 7 hours since the update and have not even seen a food item? I'm not going to saw you're lying, but I'm going to imply the shit out of it. Either that or you had a one in a multiple million lucky streak. Right now the game is virtually unplayable. You cannot possibly be saying that it's fun and the way it should be. That's insane. Maybe the rarity of actual food would be acceptable if there were more plants you could eat, or if there was more fruit on the plants we have now, or if you didn't need such exact kit for hunting and fishing and cooking (really you can only get wood if you have an axe? Why don't you break a tree limb off or pick up sticks? really? you need a knife you butcher your kill? Can't I use this sword?). Right now the mechanics are not good enough to allow you to live off the land while a fresh spawn. We need canned food back until then so that the game is playable,
-
I understand completely that survival is supposed to be difficult but guys, there is NO FOOD. There is zero food, absolutely none. Since the update I've played 7 hours and I didn't find a single food item even though food was the only thing I was looking for. That's not difficult survivalism, that's impossible. And there is no level of pompous hardcore bragging that can make up for that. I do want survival to be difficult, since I think that will do something to reduce the KOS-ing. But this isn't right. 4 deaths in a row due to starvation with only 3 hours of gameplay is waaaay to extreme for anyone. Since starting this thread I've died of starvation. I lasted about 50 minutes, no jogging, and managed to find 4 apples and one berry. Clearly they have zero nutritional value. I made it through two towns and literally saw 3 items, a cleaver, some rope and an IV kit and nothing else. Eventually I went completely black and white and killed myself. Look I'm sorry but if you are saying this is the way it should be then you're crazy.
-
Thanks for the non sarcastic answers. I'll try jogging in land. Still pretty annoying to be breaking the game so completely with updates at this even after being in development so long. Really hope it gets fixed soon (and I'm praying it's not somehow intentional).
-
With the changes to zombies and the mysterious disappearance of almost every item of loot (including food) I think Day Z is at one of it's worst stages at the moment. I really hope the next update fixes things.
-
How can you survive 3/3? Surely by definition you survive 1/1 :) Also, what is this camping thing you speak of? I haven't been playing a lot since the latest updates.
-
I don't really understand this opinion at all. I mean games should not be so difficult that you need to put actual hard work into achieving anything in it. I get the appeal of achievement I suppose but that is certainly a minority. After a long day of work/school you don't want to be more stressed because you can't survive in a video game. Day z is already PvP, and that makes it difficult. You don't need to artificially make melee weapons into sticks of cotton candy or make basic loot impossible to find to add to that. Sure, people who are willing and able to put countless hours into the game will enjoy it but not casuals. This isn't WoW, it's Day Z.
-
Sounds amazing.
