    Third person vs First person view

    Until the game can include a sense of smell (decaying matter), feel (vibrations, the expansion of air to the right of my head as a bullet whizzes by), etc - I'd rather keep 3rd person to make up for it. Or, just join another server that does not allow it - so simple! I strictly play on Vet servers that only allow 3rd person, everything else is off. It's that easy man, everyone has their own preference. (Personally, even with head bob set to min, I have an issue with motion sickness in 1st person.)

  4. Lots of popular Twitch TV and Own3D streamers are giving DayZ a try, but unfortunately do not know enough about trying to protect their identity. Stream sniping will always been an issue, but the Hackers are having a field day with these guys. Check out the DayZ channels on either service, and you'll see what I mean, Some of it is pretty funny, but some is sad too. Would be interesting to see some of the developers reaction to this. As far as I know, I've only seen Vipeaxe in the more established streams like Puddn.
  5. That's a good point and I did not think of it in that respect. I'm sure by being somewhat popular he's going to get the attention of hackers, regardless of what he plays. I just want DayZ to do well, and it sucks to have its image tarnished in this way. The streamers that have taken the steps you've mentioned will continue to play, like Destiny - so at least we have that.
  6. Yeah I hear you, but these guys are trying out the game for the first time, and are being overwhelmed by the inventory alone. For them to realize how to protect their identity as you mentioned is going to take some time. They need to get familiar with the UI first, However, by the time that happens, they'll be long bored of it as the hackers ruin the experience (like Kungen)

    Was finally able to get into the game. However, was invisible while in 3rd person. Made it out to a field, killed a cow. As soon I gutted it I lost connection with the server.

    I think a lot of this has to do with the textures that are already implemented in the game. It's been a while, but I did do some level design back in the day. Most "tiles" have a default sound - pavement=hard footsteps, grass=crunching, riverbeds=splashing, etc. You'll notice the cover mechanic changes as one steps on the varying surfaces, such as roads your audibility/visibility increases. I don't think it would be too difficult to add a cvar that adds a percentage to trigger an additional chance of one the already mentioned sounds (Fence sound in urban environment, twig breaking in forest, etc.) Like I said, it's been a while - so this could be really easy (add a few lines of code to already existing sounds/textures) or really time consuming (going over the entire map of Chenarus and adding the modifiers to every single tile - that's how it was on the old days, but hopefully it has been improved upon since.)

    This needs to be implemented. Instead of footsteps that you can hear from a player, just randomly add in one of these sounds, with a chance of it being louder than normal. Great idea.

  14. Anyone who has lived out in the field knows that as the sweat and grime builds, you work up quite a stink. Add in the apocalyptic nature of Chernarus, without the comforts of hygiene products, and that stink must be epic indeed. So, in order to curb camping (such as from the Cliffs of Elektro) if your character stays stationary for too long, the buzzing of flies/insects around your person increases. Hopefully this can have several effects: 1. Campers will be forced to move around, exposing themselves more often. 2. The buzzing will get louder as the person remains still, to the point of obstructing vision, or causing problems with aiming. I love to PvP, so don't get me wrong on this. However, I also like to meet up and try and “survive” with others. If hardcore bandits think this is too much, then maybe bug spray or some type of hygiene mechanic can be introduced in order to let one camp for a certain amount of time – but these need to be rare, or the whole suggestion is moot.
