Hi guys I've crafted a fireplace kit with a rag and a wooden stick, then placed 5 wooden sticks as fuel and tried to light it with matches. The usual procedure... Only, I don't get the option to ignite the fireplace with my matches in hand in .53... Did something change with this mechanic, or am I doing something wrong? EDIT: Never mind, works as usual, just took a few minutes, after placing the fire, until the option became available. Seems to be a performance issue with the server.

I don't think sniping its the initial problem, it's only a combat technique after all. Usually, the questionable thing is the motivation of any player, not only snipers, to engage in combat. Many combat situations can be avoided by either communicating or by not revealing yourself in the first place. That being said, what reason does an undiscovered sniper have to open fire on an unsuspecting target, that is obviously no treat to him? Maybe, we all should question and revise our rules of engagement, decide if we want to be a dick or a decent human being.

Yesterday, I tried out .48 on experimental with a new char. I spawned in Novo and made my way to Svetlo over Karmanovka. I found no edible food, cloth or any other useful item. My proudest and only useful finds were a machete and a pair of grey cargo pants and a ruined tracksuit jacket. There was rotten food around, but I decided to wait in the hope, that I will find something edible soon. There were no apple trees around and I did not have the means to hunt yet. In Svetlo, I started to die of starvation and I was forced to eat rotten food. Better to be sick, but to survive, I would cure my sickness later. But I was not able to find enough rotten food in time, my screen faded to grey tones and became blurred. An infected finally relieved me from my suffering whit a one hit kill. This was a very interesting experience and I mostly liked it. It adds a tension to survival, that is currently missing on stable. But a bit more balancing is certainly required. Food being rare is a very good thing, but there should be barley enough to sustain you to make a trip to another town as a newspawn. Survival might become highly dependent on your spawn location. Also, there should be a motivation for players to visit the larger towns on the east coast and in the north. If these are completely void of any useful item, this motivation is missing.

This only applies to the way, currencies are backed nowadays (trust in a nation's government and economy). But a currency can have an inherent value, remember the gold standards of currencies in the past. Any currency in DayZ would require such an inherent value and ammo as currency could provide that. Obviously not all ammo will be considered equally valuable (i.E. .22 vs 7.62x45). It might be preferable to concentrate on a few types of ammo, I propose Mosin, SKS/AKM and M4/AK101 ammo.

Yesterday, I never ever found any .45 ammo, a few days ago, there were other items, that never did spawn. It looks like the loot tables constantly change over time. Whether this is due to bugs or testing something is the big mystery.

I heard, you can craft one with 10 ashwood sticks, 400 rags, and a sewing kit...

No one takes RP or Talk before shot serioust enough!
GuzMaan replied to Atilimus's topic in General Discussion
Many server operators kindly ask their players not to KOS or inform them about their server being a RP server. It looks like they are aware, that they are not allowed to set such rules (which are not really enforcable anyway) and they hope for the players' kindness and human decency to follow their humble request. It would not hurt anybody, to respect such a request, it is not like different minded players have no option to play the game in a different way on 99% of the other servers... But I guess, to show that little bit of minimal respect for other play styles is too much asked for some. EDIT: Yes, I'm completely aware, that my request is naive, but still... -
sawn off .22 sporter poll ...should we be able to
GuzMaan replied to slippery gypsy's topic in General Discussion
I rather would like to see this option for the Blaze Rifle. If you fire both barrel at the same time in a close quarter combat situation, this will pack quite a punch. I do not really see a purpose to implement this for the Sporter, it lacks the damage potential to be of any use as a sawn of version (and we already have the Amphibia...) -
PETITION: Do you want to see the Gas Mask/Ballistic Helmet combination reintroduced?
GuzMaan replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Military gas masks are designed to be used together with military helmets, therefore this should be wearable in combination in game. I accept that this ismtemporarily disabled, as long as there are clipping issues, no problem with that. What i rather would like to see, is a REASON TO USE A GAS MASK in game. I'm thinking about areas, polluted with airborne viral or bacterial carriers, or gases. Maybe a hidden underground laboratory to explore, or something to wear, to reduce the chance of infection, while fighting the infected. -
You were in a position, where the masked guys eventually would have spotted you, your position was badly defensible against 3 players who would try to flank you and you could not escape without being spotted. You had no other option, than to confront these guys. To try to communicate in such a situation would have meant to give up the element of surprise and you needed that to even the odds. I also would choose to attack in such a situation (cornered, no escape route, no good cover). There are so many situations, where KOS is not necessary, unless you seek it actively, but this was not one of them.

You get malware on Windows most by executing/clicking dumb stuff in your browser or mail attachments (and granting admin permissions without thinking). If you use a Bootcamp partition only for gaming and getting your games from legal sources, you won't have a virus problem. The availability of current games on OS X has become better since the introduction of the Mac App Store and offers on Steam, but still is lacking in numbers and parallel availability with Windows releases. If PC gaming is a serious hobby for you, then OS X still is not an option.

If H1Z1 will have squads and clans at early access why ...

Amen! I still don't forgive them SWG NGE. -
Until the release of the newest patch to the regular branch, I have been a devout believer in the way of the Fire Axe for killing the infected. Now this former one hit killer needs several swings to kill a zed and for me no longer is the preferred melee option. As with all melee weapons, it is preferable to hit the head, as it is the most vulnerable body part and it also bears the chance to knock your victim down. The kill speed is also a factor, the shorter our target lives, the less hits it is able to place on you Before the latest patch, accurate aiming and speed did not really matter with a fire axe... no need to, if one hit kills. And sadly accuracy and speed are a big problem with DayZ' axes. They are really slow and aiming for the head is more difficult, than with other melee weapons. Today, I tried the Machete and was quite successful against Zeds with it. I'm able to place many hits in quick succession and it is really easy to aim, the way the machete's animation works. The combat style is comparable to punching and this does not require much maneuvering to hit for the head. Sure, the range of the machete is shorter, than that of other melee weapons, but with the many knockdowns, I cause with hits to the head, I'm not hit very often. I think, I'm going to stick with this blade for the moment, but I'm going to try the SKS bayonet too, as soon as I find one. It uses a different stab animation and might potentially be even more accurate with aiming for the head.

I found several in agricultural buildings last night and yes, they work. There are quivers with room for 5 arrows, the quivers are "loaded" into the crossbow, just like a mag into a pistol. I found the quiver in a pub and another one in a different location, I can't remember. Shots on zombies are one-shot kills, no need to aim for the head. One nuisance currently is, that the retrieval of a shot arrow only works, if it sticks on an object in the world. Retrieving one from a zombie was not possible.
