The problem is: people give a shit about what this game is about, they wanna play deathmatch. Can't blame them, CoD is probably too much of a challenge as your opponents are equally geared, lets rather hunt down fresh spawns and feel badass on the internets. I love(d) this game, the concept of gameplay is unique, it's just too bad most people seem to server-hop to gear up and then keep trying to play deathmatch only. I've recommended to game to some friends, 2 of 'em (both avid FPS players) have bought it but are bored already because they kept getting killed by fully geared players over and over as fresh spawns near the coast. I hardly log in anymore myself for this exact reason, cba to deal with all this deathmatch mentality and people using coms only to shout slurs and instults at you and generally acting tough on the internet, I rather go play CoD then, am equally armed and can mute players if they start to annoy the shit out of me or hop on a good Battlefield-community server where people use proper teamplay and everyone has a good time. Gonna wait for next patches but I rather play a fast paced round of CoD or BF than a "survival-horror-mmo" where I -while playing the game the way it is meant to be played- only seem to have disadvantages.

military gears and weapons / possible solution to server hopping
daisho replied to daisho's topic in General Discussion
sounds like a good approach too, I just wonder: 1) is this confirmed yet or just suggested by the community? 2) if comnfirmed already, will it get implemented before the serversizes will get increased? I got 1 server in my faves I actually never can play on because it's always 40/40 ...if characters will get bound to servers it should be ensured that people most times will be able to join this server without having a massive waiting time (I personally wouldnt mind to wait up to 10 minutes to join a server but everything longer than that would not be acceptable for me). -

Private hives sound like a neat solution too, is this cofirmed to get implemented yet or just another suggestion that got made by the community? -
Around 50-60 hours of gameplay, killed 1. I was searching a military base for equipment for my M4. I checked all buildings but everything was fully looted already, I decide to check last barracks though to maybe find anything and the long way to that area wouldn't have been totally for nothing. I suddenly hear someone drinking in the barracks next to me (most likely a server-hopper as I did not hear ANY footsteps before and just was in there 1 minute earlier), I take a quick look to the barracks next to me and see/ hear him running around there and decide to sneak to the showers and sit in there to wait for what will happen, thinking he might leave for the next server as there really was nothing left and all doors were open, no Zeds around. I hear footsteps running towards my position, he didn't even bother to walk slowly and didn't even have a weapon drawn. He charges into the shower fully geared with payday mask, mosin and axe on his backpack and stands right in front of me when I open the fire. I didn't even have time to communicate as it was less than a second between him entering the room and him standing right in front of me. I gotta admit I was panicing a bit. I pump a full mag into him. He seemed pretty surprised that there was someone else on the military base and was dead before he could hold the mosin. I somehow felt bad at first that I didn't try to communicate earlier, but I was not sure how many ppl would be around and did not want to give away my presence, I was hoping for him to leave or maybe not find me. Checking his loot (which of course all was ruined) I could confirm he was a server-hopper: 1 canteen, 2 cans of food, 1 saline: rest was ammo for Mosin and M4 as well as some equip for the M4. Didn't feel bad anymore.

Do You Belive Players Who Shot Unarmed And Friendly Fresh Spawns Are Bad?
daisho replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
I don't think they are "bad". Maybe they just are not interessted in playing the game. Maybe they love to crash other peoples gaming experience to feel good, then go to the forums and even call people names, makes them feel even better. Maybe they just don't know how use all of the options this game has to offer and simply lack creativity. I just find it incredibly sad (and pointless), that this game could have so much to offer you don't find in every other game on the market and people seem to demand just stuff, that already is available in so many other games. Give us more guns, give us choppers, give us vehicles, remove zombies, give us NPCs, give us quests...why would I buy a new game that offers a pretty complext, different and unique playingstyle and setting just to then ask for a bunch of things that would take away the uniqueness and turns it into a copy of [insert random FPS shooter here] ... -
military gears and weapons / possible solution to server hopping
daisho replied to daisho's topic in General Discussion
I don'tm mind people going on low pop servers it's a legit playing style (maybe they had a hard and shitty day on work and just want to play in peace w/o looking for some trouble, or they a re new and wanna learn basic mechanics before hopping on a more crowded server). Server hoppers can roam around low pop servers t gear up, totally fine if you ask me as they still would have to move around, would put themselves at risk of getting attacked doing so and could not just teleport from base to base and would be FULLY geared up with EVERYTHING they want in less than 30 minutes. And with later versions/ patches etc more players will play the game either new players or returning players that are on a break at the moment due to low concent., so empty and/ or "low pop" then most likely will be hard to find anyways. I'm not saying that my suggesstion would deal 100% with any kind of "misbehaviour" but it would be a good start at least. /edit: just asking for clarification: private hive then means you only can play one character in total that is bound to one server or would you have different charcters on every server you played on? -
retrieve - assist - gather missions (please add your ideas)
daisho replied to Energetics (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
I see your point but I don't fully agree. "this type of player"? Do you think the common console CoD kid is so much different from the commcon PC CoD kid? What would ya think would happen on console without quests? Basically the thing that happens on PC...people will run around and play deathmatch. So...not much of a difference if you ask me. The type of players this game will attract depends on what will be the focus of the surivial aspect (play deathmatch against other players or have difficulties staying alive), promote/ reward a more CoDish kind of playing style and you will attract that kind of players, no matter what plattform they are playing on. Just fix Zed-AI, fix serverhopping and we can look how things will develop from that point. There is no need for dull quests and questmarkers all over the map, Be creative and find your own mission. Quests in MMORPGs are only around to keep people busy (as these games hardly got any other content to offer) so they sub for another month over and over again and most of these quests are totally braindead. I played AION for some time, what was announced as so much different, MMORPG with heavy world-PVP and so on. In the end: there was hardly any PVP content and you got bombarded with quests of any kind, daily quests, weekly quests, normal quests, event quest, special quests, campaign quests just to distract people from the fact, that this game has nothing else to offer than killing 50 of [insert random mob here] or collect 30 of [insert random item here] day after day after day. But DayZ will have a lot to offer, playing the game has one huge mission/ quests which stands above all: stay alive. Seeing people asking for some tasks here only shows that "staying alive", gearing up and finding food and such is way too easy at the moment, so no need to fix anything, just make the game harder so people don't get bored after they hopped servers for 30 minutes and then are clueless what to do with the game/ their time. -
military gears and weapons / possible solution to server hopping
daisho replied to daisho's topic in General Discussion
It still would be a difference to deal with the cooldown without knowing if you can get ANY of the loot you want or if you server hopp and know you will get ALL of the loot you want. The loot in the coast area is bugged at the moment afaik and they working to fix this. As said: I in no way would appreciate to have faster respawns and hence more loot in the game, there is no point in everyone running around fully geared and playing deathmatch. I wouldn't mind if people engage each other with just a crowbar and axe If they feel like doing so, but farmhopping servers, get a mosin with a LRS and then sit somewhere and just camp it out "because its fun" really shouldn't be the road us players should head to/ aim for. Anyone can explain what "private hubs" exactly are? I always thought it would be some kind of "private servers" and don't see how this would fix the problem.. Tks in advance. -

This point exactly. From that point of view, he ain't even wrong (even Super Mario and Minesweeper are survival games), he just doesn't get the bigger picture.. -
military gears and weapons / possible solution to server hopping
daisho replied to daisho's topic in General Discussion
People will still keep hopping server, it'll just take them a bit longer to get all gear they want. Badmins still can restart-farm. And most server I've come across so far have a restart timer of 2-3 hours anyways. I see your point, it would make everyone to get a piece of the cake and not first comes first served, but it still wouldn't recude the comforts/ advantages of server-hopping imho. -
military gears and weapons / possible solution to server hopping
daisho replied to daisho's topic in General Discussion
I can't say I get any of your arguments to be honest: 1) the way it is at the moment it favors lonewolfing way more than anything else as there is no urge at all to team up or even communicate with people. 2) randomizing loot wouldn't give me more chances to run into desirable loot either, actually: the exact opposite would happen unlike the way we have it now what makes it pretty easy to run into desirable loot. 3) there would be no server-hopping bandits anymore as there wouldn't be any point of server-hopping anymore. 4) as said: I'm not talking about "having it safe", I rather have more paranoia, more thrill and less predicatable situations and areas all over the map and not only in the key areas. -
military gears and weapons / possible solution to server hopping
daisho replied to daisho's topic in General Discussion
That would be too drastic imho and badmins still could bypass the system: 1) Server admins still could restart servers to get farmed up 2) Server admins could kick peple who farm military bases, what would make them get no loot even on the next server they log in (same goes for regular server restarts and disconnects) 3) it also would punish people to walk the whole way to the key location and then can't farm anything because someone else spawned in there -
The problem is the people not playing the game. I'm still fairly new, but am alive on my character for quite some time now. It took me like 10-15hrs on my current character to get an M4 and I only did get it because the server was restarting while I was on a military base and everything I needed was like served on a silver plate. Normally, even when the server just got restarted 30-60 min ago I find just already looted barracks and such whenever I go to a military base or airfield. That's why I'm saying since quite some time: totally randomize the spawn-points of loot, make military gear to be found everywhere as well as any other stuff (not increasing the ammount of available weapons, just scatter them all over the place. Server-hopping is not only super annoying because people just go the easy way when hopping servers to gear up it makes it for the ones who actually are playing the game even more frustrating. Back to topic: just no. This game is a bout surviving in a post-apocalyptic environment not about running around the coast playing DM.

This would serve no purpose whatsoever other than kids feeling gangsta because they smoked cigs, drunk alcohol and snorted coke in a computer game. Oh boy...this suggestion... /edit: yeah, because that works..In germany CoD has a rating of 18+ and you hardly see anyone around that age when hopping in a lobby, most people seem to be younger than 16. I'd say, give that game an EC rating of 3 and up and you most likely would have less kids playing it, because playing games without a M or AO rating really wouldn't be considered cool.

Food consumption affecting the body; determined by nutrition and diet.
daisho replied to TIC's topic in Suggestions
I'm not quite sure if I like this. No survivor would face the risk of getting overweight even if he only drinks Pipsis and eats tuna days/ weeks considerung the fact how much we run with all that garbage we carry around. The said effects are long-term-effects and most likely would happen years after that unhealthy lifestyle and by that time we would have been shot multiple times already anyways... And problems with your teeth? There ain't any toothbrushes in the game (yet) so there wouldn't even be a way to counter too much pipsis. I appreciate your idea and how you've thought it through and as much as I love realism: the focus should be on survival horror in a post-apocalyptic environment and I guess no survivor would give a rats ass about only getting vegetables from organic farms, meat from happy tunas or mineral water from some fancy well in the french alps. You find it, you consume it and you actually would be pretty lucky if you will survive that long that you can show symptoms of malnourishment in the first place. Neither would someone bother with exercising, you simply would be too busy with trying to stay alive. /edit: Again: as much as I love a certain amount of realism...I wanna play a survival horror game with a fair amount of pvp and action and really don't wanna play a daily-routine-simulator. If I want to exercise I rather turn off the computer and go to the gym than I do virtual exercises with my character. :( -
No player list and no # of players when joining server.
daisho replied to smashingkivi's topic in Suggestions
If someone is squadded up with friends/ clanmembers and you never know if half of your group will get rejected because "server full" and then people have to deal with the relog-penality...that's imho not more realism, just more complicated with the risk of turning into more annoying. I actually like the idea of hopping into the unknown but I guess some solution like stated by that other guy, a simple option of "show only servers that are at least 50% filled" would it way better. There is absolutely nothing wrong imho with people chosing to play on one (!) low pop server to gear up, rather fix the the private-farming-servers as well as the server-hopping... I think there's quite a few people that, when coming home from a hard day of work, might just want to run a round a bit in peace and with an acutal chance to find some items, rather than having to care about running into fully geared killers (like: farm-hopping done, now it's time to pop some heads) all the time. (I'm not saying that every geared player just did get his/ her gear by server hopping, but I'm pretty sure, a lot of people farm up like that, because it's the most easy way to "play" the game and the most easy way to survive.) /edit: I usually play on low pop servers and stay on the server I've connected to, it took me like 10-15hrs of gaming time to finally get my M4, because everytime I ran into some military base or airfield, EVERYTHING and EVERYWHERE was fully (!) looted, even if the server just restarted like 30-60min earlier. At some point I was in a military base, when the server restarted and -oh, look at that - M4, assault vest, helmet, ammo....just like getting that stuff served on a silver plate by some dude in some fancy dress. I yet have to find my attachments for the M4 and some more ammo, because every day after that lucky restart-event, every military base I headed to was fully looted again, and I'm pretty sure not by the people playing on the server, but by some random visitors, who just keep hopping servers. -
admin powers to fight cheating/ glitching? cheating in general
daisho posted a topic in General Discussion
First off: I've got no idea if admins can see playerlists and "kill-lists/ announcements" and could get a quick impression if there might be a cheater/ glitcher on the server. Yes, VAC does a decent job and we also have battle-eye, but they ban in waves as far as I know, admins could ban on spot if they notice hackers/ glitchers are on the server, thats basically their job and/ or is something what separates the good and active community servers from the random ones. I wonder if all this realism wouldn't be at the expense of server-security and overall fun for all players with good intentions, because if everything is totally anonymous, it would be only easier for people to cheat/ exploit. I doubt that this game will be much different from other online games so I expect cheaters and exploiters to flood the servers once this hits beta or with the final version at the latest. So far I didn't really encounter anyone I'd claim to be a hacker, I one time got shot through a wall but this could be due to alpha too. If I get killed by a cheater in CoD or BF or only notice there's one around I don't care - at all - I just switch servers and everything will be alrite again, in this game, it would have a HUGE impact on everyones personal gaming experience and I wonder if Devs are prepared for that (maybe vets can tell how this got solved in the mod). The problem is: you just can't tell, there is no kill-announcments and you can't even tell who killed you so someone could climb up some building, start his hack and could auto-kill everyone in sight (or out of sight), and no one would even notice as you only really recognize your own deaths, which you can't even tell if someone just snuck up behind you and catched you in a legit way or was standing far away auto-shooting at you. I'm playing FPS since the early days of counter-strike when stuff still was much more about just having fun and less serious stats-wise, cheaters were easy to spot and admins could take action and ban them. Maybe my view is too pessimistic but I'm afraid this will become a HUGE issue in DayZ, given the fact you just can't respawn with all your gear and join a new server to avoid the problem and admins can't take direct actions. While I don't mind losing gear I really would get annoyed if I keep getting killed by cheaters and no one really could do anything against it other than waiting weeks/ months for VAC to take actions. /edit: typos -
admin powers to fight cheating/ glitching? cheating in general

well I personally don't need server messages necessarily, but I would happy to know that the admins of the server I play on would have some tools to be in charge. -
was thinking of a more handy one, just...you know...something every fellow survivor can put in his/ her purse.

admin powers to fight cheating/ glitching? cheating in general
daisho replied to daisho's topic in General Discussion
Never played Rust and yes, it's alpha still and not much of a problem, but having a history of FPS I've played I'm 100% sure it will become an issue after beta at the latest and I wholeheartedly hope that Devs have a solution to counter it already, as banning in waves won't help the people on the servers, who have to wait weeks/ months bevore next banhammer hits the game. -
Really depends on how you play the game imho and how lucky you get. When hopping servers I gear up in less than an hour, when playing properly it can take some time depending on whether the spots you've visited already got looted or not. My current char is like 10 hrs old, didnt farm-hopp servers and I finally found a M4 last night...so yeah, it can take some time.

Some people don't have a job or just work in a minimum wage one due to economics or still care about their money and don't want to "waste" it. Some people might be still go to school or college and really need to have an eye on how to get through the month money wise. So pleasy don't judge people without knowing what their story/ background is. Other than that: I stumbled more or less by accident over this game, had heard about it often on rddt back then but always thought it would be some kind of L4D or CoD with zombies and hence never really bothered about it. A mate told me about it few weeks ago, I looked into it and was completely stoked right from the scratch. I've died a lot to bambi-hunting-KoSers, sometimes glitches and of course there's lack of content but I was aware that it is alpha and I would not get a finished and polished product. With that knowledge in mind, I don't regret at all and really am enjoying patrolling around with my fancy sunglasses whenever I find the time.

1) Unless you have a fire-axe, don't even bother with Zeds imho. I don't know if this is due to alpha, but punching them with anything else than a fire-axe just ain't working and seems more to be some kind of hugging rather than actuall actual fighting. 2) server times are just fine if you ask me, no need to change anything...this ain't the weather channel. 3) readying your weapon: I wouldn't want to see this taken away, you are asking for more immersion OP but at the same time want something to get taken out that offers a lot of immersion. When patroling a city I have my gun out to signalize people I'm ready to defend myself, but I'm not completely hostile and run around aiming like I would kill on sight everytime I see someone. 4) how would it make a difference if the zed trying to get you is smelling, hearing or seeing you? Maybe the already smell and hear you only when it's daytime even. 5) hunger/ thirst/ status warnings: on one hand I would love to have players forced to keep track of their health status other than just reacting to a warning popping up bottom left of the screen, on the other hand: when your body feels hungry or thirsty it uses ways to indicate to you (grumbling stomach, dry mouth, headaches, etc) what it needs, and not just waits till you check your brain to see if you are hungry. So, it sort of makes sense to have an indication shown. 6) server messages: there should be no overall rule it should be a choice being taken by server-owners/ admins really,
