DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION
zombiewarpig replied to nexventor's topic in General Discussion
So if you are just tuning in and you got to the end of this post and are still confused then read below. Dayz will be on a new engine and it is not just an updated Arma 2.5. They are doing this in sections and thus the end result will truly be a new engine. To some it just means an updated engine. If you take a car and start replacing everything on it starting with the frame, is it the same car when its done? They are also looking at any other features from any other engine at there disposal to add to the new engine. Infusion is not a modded or updated engine, they are starting from scratch in sections, like physics, rendering, ect. Good News or Bad News? This is great news and will not set them back as they are replacing these sections as they go. It eliminates all the overhead and allows them to add features that the old engine did not support without wasting time trying to rework it just to find out they need to rewrite it and then have legacy code left over. How will it look? It will still look and feel like the Dayz you know but with better performance and graphic enhancements. With 64 bit servers and DX11 this is a new level of shadows, light, physics, rendering, ect. Things to be excited about. 1. 64 bit and the new navmesh are done. They still need to create the custom paths and what not but that is the end stage of zombies walking through walls. 2. Dean is most excited for barricading and wants to push that out in the next few weeks. This along with the 2 updates above will be amazing. 3. 5 - 10 zombies per 1 that we have now will be a real threat. 4. We are really getting to a new level of possibilities and the fact that they are going to this level to create the game we want is fantastic and they deserve a big thumbs up. I know that the good things are worth waiting for and there is no free to play game that will capture the Dayz experience. -
Top quality hacking - prepubescent boy
zombiewarpig replied to conan the librarian's topic in General Discussion
I was in game with a friend outside Berezino on a 35+ server as well when all of a sudden, some kid also with a high pitch going through puberty laugh started glitching around us. He was disappearing and reappearing while shooting and killed my friend before wounding me. I was crawling when he stood over me and I shot him twice. He laughed like a 12 year old ladyboy and said your bullets will do no good before ending my life. This happened a few weeks ago and haven't felt the desire to play since. Sounds like the same kid and if so then that makes it all the more depressing that he is still going at it. -
So how much of a thrill do you cheaters get when playing DayZ?
zombiewarpig replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I myself have only 90 hours in the SA and already have died half a dozen times to dupers, teleporters in GM, unlimited clippers, and wall glitchers. This seems to be the norm for early alpha's and after falling victim to these pathetic tactics it just makes me sad. You have high hopes for a game and then you have people who just mock it and do there best to ruin others enjoyment. To me it tells a lot about the mentality and nature of these people and how there is no self control or regard for other people. The worst part of it is after they are banned they have the audacity to flood our forums with cries of the anti cheats wrong doings and plead for sympathy from the community. I have begun to grow a real hate for cheaters and if there was any way I could make them very uncomfortable in the game or real life I would. To me they are just plain stealing from us, our time and enjoyment. I really hope that in the future they get underneath this and weed them out almost completely. For now its to the west and will try to keep my head up on the matter. -
What you may call an expert I simple refer to as common sense with a little bit of knowledge. I just so happen to do the research and and make sure that I understand something enough before making complaints.

The thing is that more times than not when I am kos by a group they all have dup press gear and shooting me through walls. So the choice of being an asshole for still shooting when we all know that this is gear that is desired by the type of players that take advantage of glitches and use that to kill players in the most cheap way, will never work. Cool concept and would love to see a more creative roles in the game, but most are out to just troll.

That was just bad luck and/or a bad place to spawn. I myself stand in a bush far from anything important and haven't been in danger when joining.

All righty then, are you done? I will try to sift through your broken english the best I can. "what the point is with many and you mention zombies and creating a new way and they could of left it is." Yes they are working on new pathing for zeds and there will be new models down the line. You seem to be suggesting that instead of improving what they have, to throw in a bunch of assests to please the impatient, got it. Second quote, not much better than the first. "the funny thing is by the time its supposed to have caught up been fixed this game will probably be irrelevant ". When it has been fixed as you put it, I believe that it will not be irrelevent but more so the opposite. All the people that have stuck to the mods will get on board to the best dayz to ever be offered. Sit tight folks, this is a rough one. "deans gone. probably before the project is even finished. he knows on this engine and how it is it cant be done right. you got people modding arma 3 which is doing better than 40 man team with millions behind them, funny thing is breaking point is better than SA now for eg zombies work deently in that yet not in SA. they use dayz mod code  so how can a team of 40 not do what a few modders do in same time or less". Dean is not gone and will not leave until its time for him to leave. His team also knows the engine and are making huge breakthroughs on there own, zombie navmesh for example. Mods have nothing to do with what the development team is doing with the SA. You think this 40 man team couldn't mod the SA using all the assets they have access to? This game is being written and not pasted. When they release there new zombies it will be a site to behold. I am confident that what they are doing will in the end make the best zombie survival game that the arma engine can produce. That's the point in all this work btw. I will make this the last. "your never going to get zombies perfect in this game. alot of it isnt even to do with zombies they arnt going to redesign everything and if they do how long will that take? exactly by the time if they did the game is irrelevant ". They will make zombies that will be better then ever before. If to you and others feel that the game are not even about zombie anymore, then how good are the zed mods really? The time line is very clear and Dean is also very clear about the end of the year being the deadline. If you enjoy the mod great, but it has nothing to do with dayz in terms of development. I am not the only one standing behind this project and I am also not alone in seeing the progress under the hood as something that matters. You are trying to take a strongman approach to this as the game is to early in development to make these assumptions.

I have to say that I wasn't even going to comment on Mr. Markets statistics as they are just wrong. To say MC would be losing money right now if they kept working on it is just plain false. This was in Feb 2014. People buy up to 16,000 new copies of MC for PC every day, according to Minecraft’s statistics page. It currently sells for €20, which is equivalent to around $26.50. I would like to say as far as working on it, they are updating it in very big way and according to notch, they have the funds to do so for the next 10 years. MC realms is simple them hosting using there servers and is not another game like you clearly are making out to be. This will create new revenue not pay for existing development but will allow them to expand as a company into other projects. I read all recent interviews and statistics. So in order to understand the market you used as an example of your extensive knowledge, maybe learn the product first. As far as this whole debate at which the speed of dayz's development is taking is wrong. At this stage being early alpha not late, they have spent a lot of that time building teams to handle different aspects of the game and you will see the speed ramp up in the next few months. So like I said before, if it is finished in the end and is what we all wanted then what does it matter if the beginning takes longer as the end result will be the same.

So you are saying that with all there money they should of had fireplaces by now as most of what they said is in game? Everything else on the road map is still ahead of us as we are not even in the middle of Q2. Come back in July and tell me whats missing that they had planned and I will tell you the same thing, you are right, you do not know anything about game development. These are not deadlines but they are goals for the team. Does not mean that if they didn't get bows working by April that everything won't be done in the end. You paid for testing and if its all done in the end then it doesn't matter in which the order you wanted them in or any delays along the way. We will get a finished product at the end of the year any way you slice it. As far as you claiming to know markets then you should understand that road maps are not set in stone and any one from Microsoft, apple, to Nvidia have delays and change there road maps all the time. More robust process for testing / deliveryBow and arrow / crossbowFireplacesNetwork optimizationsNo spawn penalties for joining same serverWhen ?Best case: two weeks Worst case: end of April

Thank you and everyone that support this discussion and if we could make just one person understand then it was worth it. To us it maybe just common sense that if they could, they would. But some how people would rather believe that there is a between the lines and that if they had the most detailed blog once a week that it would change anything. If you are ready to give up or spam the forums with how there is no excuse that an alpha that has had 6 months shouldn't be finished than no amount of information will enlighten you.

Wow, you managed to give all the examples of ignorance on the subject in one tiny post. Lets go through them one by one shall we. 1. it's not their engine - Its not who's game engine? Even if its not then tell me how many games are not created using someone else's game engine. 2. they already had a foundation for the game - Yeah its called a prototype and has nothing to do with the arma 2 mod. If this was just a copy and paste then why does it not look exactly the same as arma 2? Have they not made new structures and cities? 3. they have enough resources to be much farther than this by now - This I believe is the most ignorant of them all. We have enough money to get a man to mars but we haven't and why? Because there is a process to these things like sending probes first. 4. I don't really care if this is an Alpha or not - This says it all and the real reason you can't reason with someone like you. You think they should design the game around your needs and not the future development. Thanks for this example and though you find me funny, I think your sad.

lol, i agree there. Ignorance is infinite. I am not on a high horse but just have an understanding of where the game is at this point. I can wish all I want and turn that into anger but just remember, the truth is not subject to your beliefs and that you can't know anything, until you realize you know nothing.

After reading 100's of posts on all of these early released alpha's I realized something. Explaining game development stages and the process to a gamer is like teaching evolution to creationists. The fact of the matter is, you can not win the argument. Games take years to complete and this whole notion of it not being developed to provide seamless game play at the same time is just ludicrous. For example they spend months working on a new system for zombie's and had to scratch it for a better system. This was a set back indeed but should they of just kept an inferior system so that you may have a campfire? There are terms like under the hood that seemed to be over looked or even scrutinized by the community as an excuse or being lazy. When I read a post that starts off with, " I know it's in alpha but" only leads to a post from someone that thinks he knows more then the team or that he has an idea to solve what he thinks is a problem. The problem is not the development team or even the the short time dayz has been worked on, its the community that is in lack of patience and understanding. I could talk about this for hours but like I said, "you can not win the argument.
