Mod is still better than the SA

You should heed your own advice. Yes. That is exactly what you "implied" (if you know the definition of that word) by saying what you did. Also, to say I'm "completely blinded from my sheer-fanboyish love of the game" is neither productive, nor constructive as you've instructed others to do so, & is rather ignorant to say the least. & as far as man fanboyism goes, I have little-to-no knowledge of video game development. That being said, I tend to be very understanding, & not the least bit entitled (like yourself) when the roadmap of this game doesn't go according to plan. So please, enlighten us of your vast knowledge of how video games should be developed, or better yet, make a better game yourself. What is really embarrassing, is community members like yourself, that give supportive, constructive, logical members like myself a bad name. You are a part of the problem, not the solution. Stop being so entitled. You read the disclaimer.

Mod is still better than the SA

Because money is the answer to everything right? Maybe they should hire the stack of cash with googly eyes from Geico. Then we should see some real progress. Don't be so entitled.

  12. Hi all, Since persistent storage & loot is well on it's way, I recently started thinking to myself that it would be cool to see players have their own combination safes. Now as far as obtaining one goes, I would consider it a lootable item just like anything else. If you want to transport it, you can pick it up, but you'll be walking very slowly trying to lug it around, unless you have a car with a trunk to transport it. They may even contain items when found, such as a compass, pistol, combat/hunting knife, etc. When you find a safe, you should have options at your disposal. One option, would be searching the surrounding area for a note with the combination on it. & I wouldn't want this to always be the case (i.e. not every safe should spawn with a note containing the combination near by, as every not every person in real life keeps their combination written down). That being said, players should be able to guess the combination (yes I know that's a long shot but it is absolutely possible by all means). The other option that players should have, is to open the safe by force. I was thinking along the lines of a blowtorch (or any other form of concentrated heat as a blowtorch currently isn't in game. Although shouldn't be too hard to implement given that we already have propane canisters), which could be used to melt the hinges off of the safe, leaving all loot inside intact. Players should also be able to open it with the use of explosives, but this method would be more likely to damage any loot that may be inside. Once the safe is opened by force, the safe will become "ruined" & will essentially be useless from there on out. Depending on your method of opening it, will determine that state of the loot inside. Now given that a player obtains a safe, & the combination, they can open it the way it was intended, take any loot that may be inside, & then transport the safe to their camp, where they can reset the combination to whatever they please, & continue to use it. I would suggest that the safe be fairly limited to space (maybe 12-15 slots?) because players would just stash everything they possess in one if they had enough space. Once a player is in possession of their very own safe (which really should be both a luxury & a rarity might I add), then this should add a lot of variety to robbery/hostage situations. You wouldn't want to kill the only person that knows the combination to their safe, & opening the safe by force, will make it unusable at the point, & poses the risk of damaging loot inside. So it would be wise to interrogate the owner for the combination. Safes should DEFINITELY be a rarity if so, & there should only be about 40-50 in circulation across all servers? Maybe even less than that. TL;DR -Suggesting combination safes. -Lootable, transportable. -Reusable, unless opened by force. -Combination can be reset, given that players have the original combination. -Would be a rarity, & would be a minimal amount across all servers. All positive & negative feedback welcome!
  13. Well in all fairness, the name was derived from the mathmatical term "googol", which according to dictionary.com, is "A number that is equal to 1 followed by 100 zeroes & expressed as 10 to the hundredth power." But regardless of that, I disagree with OP. Cause a name like "H1Z1" is so kickass right? Really gets my panties moist.

    Combination Safes for Storage

Good contribution Roy thank you! :D As far as transporting the safe goes, I was thinking that you should only be able to transport it by hand, unless you had a vehicle to put it into. basically a "Take Safe Into Hands" option, just like you would with a second primary gun. & I also think you should only be able to walk with it, no jogging or sprinting. This would be the "con" to having such a secure storage unit: Limited space, & it's a pain to transport. Other than that I agree with everything else you said. & also, you're the first to give me props on my avatar. Such a good movie haha! & I can honestly say I've never noticed that part @1:25. Makes me want to go home & watch it :)

    Combination Safes for Storage

The devs look at every single thread on this forum, & pay plenty attention to each & every one of them. Especially the one's that recieve a lot of input. Preventing players from regaining their loot from their previous character whether it be their old body or the persistent storage that is to be implemented in the future, has been a popular topic since the game's release. I am by no means the first person to "suggest" this. Also, if the mods truly feel that it should be in the "suggestions" forum, then they'll put it there. If you're really concerned about that thread being in the wrong place & not gaining the attention it deserves, then contact the mods & voice your opinion. Not me, the thread doesn't even belong to me, & that's not even what this thread revolves around. I was simply pointing someone in the right direction. The devs are not going to be biased & split hairs like yourself simply because of "where" a thread was posted. That's just childish. Your argument is pointless & off-topic. Please, either contribute to the topic, or be gone.

    Where the animals at ?

I played on the exp. build last night for maybe a 4 hour session. Spawned in Berezino, headed to the shipwreck, went from the shipwreck to NEAF, died. Spawned in Svetlo, ran over to the new town Novo & spent the rest of the night there playing with fire & talking to people. My point really is that I spent a decent amount of time traveling through both forests & cities & didn't find a single animal. Not even that damn rabbit. I do however like the scarcity of animals. You literally need to "hunt" them. It's really coming together nicely :)

That's irrelevant. The point is that it's already of concern by the community.

Suggestion: Microphone cant be turned off

I support this  Yes, people could use a 3rd party comms program on an entirely different PC, but how many DayZ players even own 2 PCs, let alone in the same room? Especially larger groups. Every person in that group would need a second PC to work around it. AFAIK you can't use Skype or TS effectivley on a smartphone or tablet. I would consider them being at a disadvantage for even trying.

    Combination Safes for Storage

I saw another thread concerning this & persistent storage. A workaround would simply be to make your previous storage unaccessible. Ultimately, persistent storage is already confrimed regardless of what form it's in. So whatever the devs decide to do to prevent players from B-lining back to their previous characters storage, the same method can be applied to safes. EDIT: Here's the link http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/196978-after-death-run-back-to-storage/

    Combination Safes for Storage

Whoops. For the record I did use the search function. Didn't turn up any results. I agree, but in the form of tents or a campsite. The fact that a safe would provide "extra protection" for unicorn items such as night vision goggles, is how I would justify it being so rare. & given the fact that unless you have a combination, you would need to open it by force, essentially ruining the safe. I agree with this as well, with the exception of pistols. I think you should be able to store small firearms just as you would in a backpack.
