I SUPPORT LOGGING ONLY FOR ENCOUNTERS WITH HACKERS. There's a reason I don't logout when I'm in a tough spot, it's because I want to play DayZ for the experience, not to 'win', because lets face it, no one wins in DayZ anyway. I'm a 'traditional' bandit, I approach people with my friends and we talk to them over direct chat. We demand they lay down, turn around and not move, then we make them drop whatever we want. Then we let them go... usually. Sometimes we take them as slaves too. Other times, if they seem cool and like minded we may even give them our TS IP and team up. That's not to say I don't love blasting people, I really really do. However, most people don't play DayZ for the experience, they aren't 'mature' in any sense and prefer to just combat log instead of have a little fun. If you're reading this now and contriving a rebuttal to excuse your combat logging then you fall into what I call 'Group 1 players'. Group 1 players are assholes. They're generally carebears who want to hold hands and skip through the fields together, they'll shoot someone and justify it to themselves but lordy lord...if someone shoots them - to the forums they go, angry thread abound. Group 1 players devolve even further into script kiddies, when they realise even combat logging won't save them. Group 2 players are the rest of us, we play DayZ to play DayZ, we enjoy the ups and the downs. Instead of raging if we get ambushed or a bandit demands our things, we learn from it, usually have a laugh too. That shit is funny, folks. I guy ambushed me earlier, broke my legs and took my morphine while i was knocked out, he left me with everything else though and specifically told me he'd taken only my morphine. That shit was amusing. Gear worth keeping and broken legs 2k from cherno. Whole server got nuked by a hacker 10 minutes later anyway, but yeah. Generally nowadays though, I just kill people because there's no way to stop combat loggers (except some private hives are apparently, weird right?) and rocket refuses to put in a logout timer. At this point I'm wondering if that's even viable though, with all the hacking. Standalone had better god damn have one though.

The way I see it, hacking is so endemic in dayZ that by now we've all been victims of it knowingly. And probably unknowingly many more times. This will scare off newer players who're gullible enough to try to test out the mod at this stage. Now this could hurt the sales of the standalone, since people will get the idea that it's always going to be like this, and since rocket refuses to shut down the hive, we ought to help out. I think the mods should issue a 'pretend it's not happening' decree among the forum team, each and every thread containing people complaining about hacking should be immediately deleted. Forum members can help out too, every time someone mentions hacking you just post in the thread and say 'I've been playing *insert x number of weeks/months* and I've only been killed by a hacker once'. This will minimise the impact of the very real problems someone's complaining about long enough for the DayZ forum team to kick into action. To make it easier for the forum team, I propose a basic database query that can be run, to save them having to use the search function. Once you're logged in as a 'forum team' member, another search box can appear next to the standard one. It doesn't even have to be an issue though, we can use logic against logic to repudiate morality and reason while laying claim to it. It'll be amazing how fast 'hacking' goes from being a big issue to a non issue. Also, it falls right in line with rocket's 'don't post on my own community forum' policy.

And I think you're entirely justified in doing so, but we need to take it further. For the sake of the standalone. We can't let these idea's of hackers and cheaters infect peoples minds like the infection has spread over chernarus!

No shit, sherlock? I was on a hospital roof, guy shot at me from the hills with a DMR. I ducked behind cover, 5 seconds later he appeared next to me and killed me.

2-3 weeks ago I could go on at any time of the day or night (GMT time) and find literally dozens of EU servers with players. Now, I go on, even at peak times and it's only a handful of populated servers. Even the north american servers are looking pretty sparse. I guess most of the population finally got bored of all the hacking. Even most of the youtubers and streamers have stopped playing DayZ. Oh well, 6-8 months and we'll have the standalone!

Yes, but that's a thread in of itself. Humans have almost 180* FOV, arma 2 however has around an 80* FOV (maybe less?). It's like having tunnel vision, not to mention it's so clunky you need to see your avatar. And anyway, if everyone can use 3rd person it's perfectly fair. If you want to discuss that though, please make a new thread.

Lets not get off topic here. But briefly, there's a standard 'hacker' loadout you see very often. It's an As50, NVG, rangefinder, 2 satchel chargers, glock 17, assorted medical supplies and an M4A1 silenced in their backpack. It's like a standard 'thing' they must script in. We once killed a squad of 3 guys that all had this exact loadout (they all spawned back at us with it within 5 minutes and killed us).

If that can actually work, there's no reason for it not to be in DayZ.

Not wanting to kill people doesn't make you a carebear. Crying about it and demanding changes/becoming a cheater would. Lately I've not been killing anyone who I see as a 'legit' player, instead focusing all my killing on As50 hackers.
