Night time on dayZ is amazing, the atmosphere that it creates is fun. The problem is servers all run on their own (non-hive) times, so people will just leave and go to day time servers. Or crank the gamma up. Who'd play with torches and road flares when someone else is using what's effectively a light 'hack' to gain an advantage? If Gamma can't be fixed, night play is a curiosity, not an integral part of the game that everyone has to experience.

Hit detection is still absolutely abysmal.
TheMachine replied to FrostDMG's topic in General Discussion
Exxxxactly. A sway of the weapon, obvious recoil differences etc would be the best way to simulate 'worn' weapons with bad parts. There's something VERY wrong when you can't hit the broad side of a barn door with a modern assault rifle at 100 metres. And don't even get me started on the fucking shotguns, 12 gauge at 10 yards would be devastating in reality, but apparently in arma/DayZ enemies can just eat 4 shells then shoot back. -
We can choose our skin colour, our outfits and our gear, yet we can't choose to make characters that are different body types? As a big guy (see avatar) I really feel like I've been left out in the cold here, especially in a game that trumpets hyper realism in so many other ways. Perhaps fat characters could move slower but have a higher resistance to starvation and cold? PS. Being fat is beautiful, don't let anyone bring you down my brothers.
-
Why aren't there 'fat' characters in DayZ?
TheMachine replied to TheMachine's topic in General Discussion
Actually you'd lose muscle mass before you lost fat, fat takes months to lose (believe me I've tried). -
What do you think of weapon rarity
TheMachine replied to liquidpeaches's topic in General Discussion
I assume when there's more weapons it'll be easier to find 'a' gun, any random gun. If it isn't we'll lose players. Without the idiotic debates about what is and is not realistic, the fact is no one wants to spend 2 hours looking for a gun, especially if they're getting shot at whilst doing so. People just think 'fuck it', and quit. There's a fine line between a challenging, avant-garde emergent gameplay and just plain boring because I die all the time and can't find weapons. -
This is really a non-discussion. Just have servers that allow whichever people prefer. Only first person or first and third person - problem solved, everyone happy.

When someone has a MLP avatar, I can't take them or anything they say seriously.
-
40 player servers? Pfft. Part of the reason I was looking forward to the SA is because there'd be enough people that it'd feel more like an MMO and less like a running simulator.
-
So, where are the 100 player servers?
TheMachine replied to TheMachine's topic in General Discussion
Just because I'm a little over weight my opinion isn't valid? The high player counts were one of rockets' many 'selling points' (read - lies) that haven't materialised, even after two years of development. While I have to commend rocket for finally going ahead and pushing the button to release the game after months of false starts, half truths and 10,000 interviews with youtube 'celebrities', you've still got to wonder, why so few players on servers? -
I think this perfectly sums up what I'd say to the carebears who cry about PvP and KOS.
-
Didn't you see my pic in my avatar? That's literally how I'm 'dressed' while I play DayZ.
-
Us bandits can't help that we enjoy the chase, the kill, the loot. The intense sexual arousal from the thrill of it...
-
Ah, insults, attacks, crying, screaming, moaning. Why is there this myth among the carebears that bandits are hunting people on the beach? Sure, if I see someone with a winnie I'll take them down, but the most amusing thing is killing someone who's taken the time to acquire good gear. You know what the best part is? When they're unconscious and you can kneel beside them, gently tell them that everything's ok and explain that it's nothing personal. Then call them a fag and shoot them.
-
Give me one logical reason why gear destruction will delay KOS
TheMachine replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
For one it's completely unrealistic if loot destruction is something that happens all the time. ie. NVG on someones head - you head shot them and they're broken. That'd happen maybe 1/10 times in real life. I'd just shoot anyway, that's how I play. If I don't destroy the loot fine, if I do, whatever, I got the kill I was after. -
I don't exclusively snipe elektro. Generally I play Overwatch, so it's easy to find a vehicle and drive around looking for some juicy targets. The carebear utopia that some expect the SA to be will not be a reality. We will not hold hands to battle the hordes of zombies, enemies that are a mere afterthought of the game. The more of a challenge it is to slay someone or get loot, the more satisfying it'll be when you do it. And "Go play arma"? What? Arma is boring, you spawn with a weapon then deathmatch, death means nothing, kills mean nothing. On DayZ you can be alive for a week, take down 30 victims and bathe in their blood and tears.
-
This is the only reason I'm looking forward to SA banditry. Many more opportunities for trolling.
-
Ah yes, the typical socialist utopian ideal of a society banding together, perhaps living by trade and barter with no war, jealousy, greed or hate! Reminds me of soviet era architectural drawings of valhalla like cities that never materialised because that shit is NOT human nature. Haven't you ever read a history book? Shit, even today we're still invading nations for their shit, it's what people do. Neanderthals were stupid as fuck, so we ganked them. Just like we have no problem ganking these carebears.
-
OH and is the surprise that you'll actually find a way to whine your little carebear heart out even harder once you've spent longer collecting gear before I slip my hatchet into the back of your tantalising skull and savage your still spasming body?
-
I snipe in elektro because that's where people go, NWAF is empty. And it's very amusing to kill someone who can't fight back. My only wish is that SA lets us do interesting things, like capture people and drain their blood, perhaps even keep them tied up as human blood bags. That'd stop me killing on site for sure, but it must be interesting. I have a dream, a URAL, 10 players in the back, bound and gagged, hog tied. I ride around the coast syphoning off their blood to help needy survivors. I then capture those survivors and add them to the mobile blood bank.
-
Guess we're playing a different game then, buddy, because I don't remember the last time a zombie done anything but annoy me while I'm sniping in elektro.
-
Another person who wants to PvE and clearly hasn't understood the thrust of the game or human nature. Fighting zombies and roleplaying is boring, if that's what you want to do there's shitty games like WoW, go play that. DayZ is interesting because of KoS, because it's a ruthless fight to the death for supplies and weapons. If SA carebears it up too much the streaming community will die over night and so will the game.
-
Dear Rocket and his team, no private hives, please.
TheMachine replied to Dekkymane's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What's wrong with self blood bags? -
Don't argue with it. These are the same cretins that script because they don't believe anyone has the right to kill them.
-
My main problem is that you'd think they'd at least give a release window, even if it was a 3 month window. "We'll be releasing the game sometime between august and october, we're ironing out critical bugs just now". The fact they haven't even done that suggests to me, we're at minimum 6 months out from an alpha release - if not more. Now, Rocket and team have no obligation to tell us when the game will be released at all. (since people always like to chime in that it's their game, they don't owe is anything etc) But these are facts, as our current situation with the lack of forthcoming information all but proves. Sure, rocket may give updates on what they're doing, but 'release date' is almost like a dirty word that you're chastised for even mentioning.

Playing non-pvp DayZ would be like playing mortal combat without fly kicking someone.
