  1. I'd say close to 100% of people I shoot at (or that shoot at me and miss) alt+F4 out of the game. Less than half a dozen times has anyone actually not logged out while I was shooting at them. And this is in squad Vs. squad situations too, not just some poor random guy I was blasting at. I don't know why rocket is pushing out bear traps while this exploit is still ruining the immersion of DayZ. I know any criticism of the way Rocket does things is frowned upon here, but come on folks. Zipping up my flame retardant jacket to protect me from the alt+f4 pirates and preparing to weather the storm...

A serious question for the PvP-phobes

These are really great ideas, capturing various area's and clearing them out of zombies that don't respawn while there's people are there sounds awesome. Be great when zombies are more of a challenge and there's more of them too, that'll make defensible areas that people have 'secured' high value and players will actually WANT to team up to get into them. Maybe cherno will be taken over by 'good' people who keep roving bandits out, or maybe it'll be taken over by bandits that lure survivors in? All sounds like things we've seen in zombie movies and it sounds awesome. :D

    Is it hacker day?

I'd say half the people I've killed this week have had NVG, silenced M4's, silenced pistols + other rares, all with the starter backpack, zero food or drinks, just ammo and grenades. Clearly people 'hacking' to get the EQ.

A serious question for the PvP-phobes

I'm for a large majority of the space age weapons to be taken out of game. AS50, m107, NVG, thermal scopes, basically all the 'high tech' stuff seems out of place and a bit silly. Banning people for PvPing is a stupid idea and would damage the game base, the 'open' factor is what's interesting. At least it's a suggestion though.

A serious question for the PvP-phobes

So what you're saying is that a PvP firefight with automatic weapons is permissible, but someone using a sniper rifle is not? Are you proposing sniper rifles be removed from the game?
  6. TheMachine

A serious question for the PvP-phobes

Please, address the questions directly. What do you propose is done to limit player PvP interaction, or do you believe that player PvP interaction needs to be limited?
  7. TheMachine

A serious question for the PvP-phobes

So you're proposing there be rules stopping players from engaging other players in combat?

A serious question for the PvP-phobes

Finally we're getting somewhere, these are great idea's. It'd be fantastic if you could build a settlement of some kind and use it as a 'safe zone' with people protecting it from would be bandits and rouges.

A serious question for the PvP-phobes

No one's answering my question, they're just reiterating the same old 'I got killed by someone I never even seen, he's probably a kid with a bone to pick and that's not PvP at all since I never had a chance' line. All these stories come down to the same 3 parts I outlined in the OP. 1. Meet another player. 2. Get killed by another player. 3. Don't like getting killed by another player. You have the same chance to get a sniper rifle and survive in the woods and kill people if you so choose as that guy did. You also have the power to evade players like that. DayZ is popular precisely because it's NOT left4dead or some other boring zombie killing simulator, of which there are thousands. Without the constant risk of death at any time what is it? A game with clunky controls on an old engine that has very poor cheat detection, sub par netcode and poorly optimised graphics. However this is NOT a 'what is acceptable PvP' or 'what's dayz about' thread. This is a simple question, what do YOU expect the interaction with other players in DayZ to be? Do you believe it's unacceptable for another player to kill you in a given situation, and if so, how do you propose that the other player is stopped from doing so? I'd really like if these questions could be addressed directly.
  10. I'm not going to give the usual 'this is alpha' canned retort here, because this isn't an issue with the alpha state of DayZ. Though I see people erroneously say 'this is alpha, stop complaining about hackers'. It's simply a symptom of a game that's become very popular, very quickly. Added to that, the 'hardcore' nature of DayZ makes it ripe pickings for impatient script kiddies who want to 'troll' and get stuff fast. You've got to understand the mentality of these cretins, they're the same people who post on this forum disagreeing that the ALT+F4 problem, is a problem. They want to rampage on DayZ, destroy people's efforts, while putting in none of their own. They don't enjoy a tense game, without exploits, where their mistake means their death - they enjoy killing someone with gear they conjured into existence to get a reaction. They're really symptomatic of a society in deep decline, no one wants to work for anything anymore, but that's another issue. Anyway, there's no point complaining about this every 5 seconds, because it's never going to be fixed. Ever. This isn't a problem with DayZ, nor is it something rocket has control over, it's the arma engine and the sheer ineptness of the battleye client, which is worse than punkbuster (if that's possible). Added to which, the Dayz dev team is small, so they don't even have time to look into 'hacking' reports and ban people by checking server logs. DayZ won't be standalone until about 2013 sometime (when arma 3 is released), so until then nothing can be done about this. In fact I'd hazard to guess arma 3 will be infested with the same scripting exploits too, so don't even expect something to be done then. Yes, hacking is a pain, because this isn't COD, where you can just respawn in 5 seconds, but it's not going away folks.
  11. With people disconnecting in most fights, we really need a message that says 'xx has disconnected'. It detracts nothing from the immersion and lets us know when cowards/exploiters have A. pussied out B. are trying to server hop to flank us.
  12. Yes I agree, but how are you proposing this system would negatively effect being a bandit? No one even takes notice of names, it'd just be nice to see when people pussy out.
  13. Yeah, because if someone knows your name it's wayyyy harder to kill them with your winchestor, right? We got an alt+f4 pirate here, who doesn't want the game to name and shame him.

DayZ - The game that tops em all

Glad someone actually 'gets it'. Most people just come on here and demand the game be made easier to satisfy their impatience.

    Stop complaining about 'hackers'

It always amuses me when people post in threads before reading them. Who's defending hackers?
  16. TheMachine

    Stop complaining about 'hackers'

You underestimate the extent of the hacking. People can go invisible, make crossbows fire full auto and teleport around. A hacker doesn't stop at getting an As50, he goes 'all the way', so to speak. And what does it matter if someone nukes the whole server, or goes around for player to player, playing 'Hip to be a square' and axing them in the head? They're still dead. And neither situation is ever going to be solved.

    Stop complaining about 'hackers'

Where did I disagree that it's annoying as hell? Happened to me 3 times this week, each time just as annoying as the last. I don't rage though, because I know it cannot be fixed. I think people need to be informed that it can't be fixed and won't be fixed, to put their minds at ease so energy can be directed to other area's of the game that CAN be fixed.
  18. No, this is a terrible idea and would destroy what makes DayZ fun. End of story.
  19. TheMachine

    Stop complaining about 'hackers'

I've been killed by hackers 3 times this week, that's out of 5 deaths. Yes it's a problem but sadly, it can't be fixed.

    Has Anyone Seen this Man?!??!

Annoying, but hilarious. The music (american psycho) and the axe, great stuff. Hackers can't ever be stopped on this engine either, so suck it up and just hope they're funny hackers when they get you.
  21. Yeah, we're asshats and deserve whatever we get for the crime of engaging another player. In this case what we're getting is severe cowardice from limp wristed nancy boys not man enough to fight.
  22. Well it's going to be a year before we see DayZ as a standalone, it'll likely be on the arma 3 engine and that isn't out until like 2016 or something. So unless he finds something, anything, to tide the mod over until he pushes out a standalone, then it's just going to get so frustrating trying to play that people will get bored. DayZ is the immersion, when that breaks and people just vanish, it's blows. Hard.

I wonder if this'll be as big a success as the war on drugs.
