For real. While I wait 260 seconds to respawn into the server that just disconnected me, I'm here to rant. This is ridiculous. The game is crashing significantly more (not to mentioned you can now be pushed THRU stairwell walls to your death), why the hell do I have to wait 260 seconds to attempt to reconnect to the server that disconnected me? That stupid timer is for hoppers anyway, but this is ridiculous. /rant where the hell are the all the 1911 mags at? For real. I have 3 1911s I carry around (it's a 3-shooter) and haven't found a mag yet.

I'd like the see the following added in: - many more civilian handguns (maybe some Glocks, 1911s, a Peacemaker would be sweet with the cowboy hat) - Model 70 hunting rifle - Some pump action shotguns - Compound bow

See, there you go! Now you know not to look for pistol clips because you will never, EVER find them. And you've learned something new. Doesn't it feel good?

Well, actually, since you brought it up, a bullet is just the thing that is forced out of the casing by the gunpowder explosion. But I let this one go, becasue it is commonly accepted to refer to the 4 separate components that make up a cartridge as a bullet.

Um, isn't they 27% of the members ALREADY using this forum? I get it, you guys don't care. So here's an exercise - pick a topic you are personally passionate about. And create a similar example using specific terminology from that topic. Now, tell me if it pisses you off when someone is speaking of said topic incorrectly. Do we call a SCUBA tank an oxygen tank? Yes, all the time. Is oxygen what a SCUBA tank holds? No. But you sound ignorant to a scuba diver calling that thing on his back an oxygen tank. If a mechanic asks you for a wrench and you hand him a pliers, he's going to look at you funny. Similar tools, used in similar ways, but not the same. What's that thing under your hood in your car? Is it an engine? Or is it a motor?

I think the first kill is the only morally-justified one. I would not have killed them. I am role playing when I play DayZ. It's us (human) vs. them (undead). I'm not just going to shoot someone I see because they have a gun. By that logic, everyone should just shoot me (because I have a gun), even though I consider myself a hero, and go out of the way to try and help those who I come across. I think it's pretty shitty (in real life, and this game), to judge a book by its cover, and consider someone with a rifle slung over their shoulder a direct threat to my safety. PS - yea, I die a shit ton. But it just isn't a fun experience to me to shoot others who aren't doing anything to directly threaten me. Even when they are, I typically try and deescalate situations. I have 157 hours in the game, and have killed 2 people. One was some glitch where my gun started firing when I hadn't even clicked on anything (plus he was in my group). The other was a guy that chased me around punching me. he had no clothes on and no gear, but wouldn't stop following me. I exercised great restraint, telling him to leave me alone all the way through two who towns. Finally, I turned around and knocked him out, and just left him there. Maybe he didn't die??

Hi All, Let's try again. This game is not actually designed to be a game, but rather, a simulation. One of the guiding principles behind DayZ is supposed to be the realism. Having to eat and drink, breaking limbs, going unconscious, etc. etc. If this game is about realism, than a magazine =/= a clip. It's basic fact. All you guys flamed me, and that's fine, but you need to realize saying "who cares", or "it doesn't matter", just shows you to be ignorant. They are two different words, that have two different meanings. It's not even like they are synonyms and I'm just being a dick. They aren't. This is a matter of simple fact and using the correct terminology. Maybe I should not have said it was my biggest pet peeve, because it isn't. But it's a matter of using correct terminology to define what you are talking about. If everyone just stops caring and calls something whatever the hell they want, what's the point of that?? Words have meanings and definitions, and those who use the terms magazine and clip interchangeably are showing they are ignorant to the difference. I'm trying to help you people!! firearm & gun - accepted as interchangeable terms for a weapon that fires a projectile out of a barrel. car & automobile - accepted as interchangeable terms for a thing with 4 wheels and an engine that drives the wheels pistol & handgun - accepted as interchangeable terms to describe a one-handed firearm Synonyms - a word or phrase that means exactly or nearly the same as another word or phrase in the same language Clip & Magazine are NOT synonyms. Magazine - a container that feeds the cartridges to the weapon. Clip - a device used to feed the cartridges into the magazine. Get it? You cannot fire cartridges directly out of a clip, but you can fire cartridges directly out of a magazine. So, no flaming. Please accept that these two words have different meanings and that in the firearm world, they are not accepted as interchangeable terms, as they are completely different items. By the way, here is how to test if words are synonyms (or close enough to use interchangeably. You take the word in question, and replace it with another word. And if the overall sentence still makes factual and common sense, then you are good to go. Example: #1) I need a magazine for my FNX45. #2) I need a clip for my FNX45. In the above example, you can clearly see (based on the definitions you should now be familiar with), that clip is not a suitable replacement for magazine. Why? Because from a factual standpoint, a FNX45 is incompatible with a clip. Therefore, the factual accuracy of the second sentence is not maintained by replacing "magazine" with "clip". So, to reiterate my point, you sound like a tool when you say something that doesn't make factual sense. Sure, I know what you mean. But if I don't correct you, you will not know that you sound like a tool, or know that you are factually incorrect, and will continue to practice reinforcing the misinformation of others. Just call it what it is, instead of flaming me to defend your misuse of these two words.

Might be cool to find "books", or other notes, diaries, etc. that explain or develop a back story to the apocalypse. That would be neat.

I just need to express this rant. I was just playing just now, and some guy was running around following me, asking me for clips for his pistol. He wouldn't stop following me, spamming over his mic "hey got any clips"..."hey, you got any clips I can have"..."hey..." STFU and I shot him in the face and took his rice. Magazines =/= Clips They are NOT interchangeable terms. Currently, there is only ONE gun in this game that uses a clip, and that is the SKS. The M4 and the FNX45 are incompatible with "clips", they use magazines. As a gun owner, this is my biggest pet peeve. I understand many of you are knowledgeable of firearms based solely on the info you get from the media. The media doesn't know shit, ok? Let's recap: Magazines =/= Clips /rant PS - the only reason I'm even starting a thread is because this misconception that bullets are held in clips is entirely too prevalent with members of this specific community. PPS - I don't want any of you to sound like tools when talking to those who have actually handled firearms and are experienced shooters. You will sound like an assclown asking for a "clip".

Thanks for all the replies. To those of you who feel the need to flame, I'm not against books at all. I just didn't see the point of having the books in a video game. It seems silly to me to log into a video game, and use my virtual character to read a book, when I could jsut read the book myself and leave the PC turned off. Seems like many of you just ignore them, a few actually read them, and others are looking for other uses. Just wanted to see what the general consensus was. PS - I agree that it would be useful if the books actually pertained to character development, such as in Fallout, etc.

I've searched, and cannot find a meaningful answer. Can someone tell me, wtf are the books for in the game? Is it really so you're game character has something to do when nothing else is going on? Is it a way to pass the time when it's dark outside? I don't get it. I'm not an avid reader to begin with. And I'm sure as hell not going to page thru Red Badge of Courage while I am trying to play a VIDEO GAME. So was just curious: 1) what exactly is the design or creative intent behind having these books everywhere? 2) in a post apocalyptic survival situation, should I really be tying my inventory slots up with BOOKS that I can't eat, bandage myself with, or use to kill an enemy? 3) do any of you actually sit in the game and read these books?

I'm sure he didn't know that this game was in Alpha...given you cannot start playing the game without clicking "OK" on the disclaimer.

Yea your best bet is to avoid them. I will NOT fight a zombie if I am unarmed. Takes too long and leaves you vulnerable. As others have said, just out run them, and try not to pull them in the first place. If you do have to fight them, especially with your fists, you MUST keep moving.
