Do not buy HP computers. The only pre builts I'd ever recommend are lenovo laptops that come out of their "blemished" section. You can commonly get a perfectly good/new one with a small scratch or dent for hundreds less than retail. If you're looking to get a new desktop, do some research for a week or two and find specifically what components fit your budget and requirements best.

Time to reduce run speed with vehicles inbound?
taco86 replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
Omg... are you seriously weighing the probability of another world war and the probability of a zombie apoc against eachother? May easily be the worst logic I've come across today. -
I don't really want to get into an argument with you guys about the mp5k vs ak74u, but at least half the things you posted are incorrect... "Accuracy is the same" being the most laughable. Recoil per shot is also the same as the 74, which is lower than the mp5k... I'll forward you to wobo's guides https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBLsu6QW9Dw&list=UUEaZAoRquVbDm7-8u1qastw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ni3rBMiuFnk

Not really sure what you're getting at here... Are you trying to tell me that sprinting at 18 mph should not be possible? -
New render coming q1 2015. There better be some significant 64 bit support with that else people going to get pissy.
-
Dude... Some guns certainly are "better" in this game... You can try and argue the "favorite" crap all you want, but certain weapons are obviously better than others... Compare the ak74u to the mp5k as one example... The 74u is more accurate, does a tiny bit more damage, fires at roughly the same rate, takes the same inventory space, is more easy to find and has mags that are more easy to find... The only advantage the mp5k has is that the 9mm may possibly be slightly easier to find, however 5.45 is common as hell anyway... The 74u is very clearly the superior weapon... Can people kill other people with the mp5k? Of course they can! However that has nothing to do with something being better than something else... I can kill someone with a crow bar, that does not make it equal to a fire axe....

Time to reduce run speed with vehicles inbound?

The difference here is running 5 miles strait at a speed of 18 mph, or running 5 miles strait at a speed of 6-8 mph. Most high level athletes (let alone normal folk) cannot maintain a full sprint for more than 400m. Even Olympians that run the 600 do not do it at a full sprint, although it's not far off. Imo, the 18mph sprint speed should be maintained, however it should actually be "sprint speed" as in you have a limited amount of stamina that is based on your current health, condition of the terrain you're running on, and the amount of junk you're carrying. Sustained jogging speed of 8-10 mph would probably be a sweet spot even if it's a bit faster than most people could achieve. Game play needs to be maintained and I feel that if we slow to jogging speeds of around 6 mph (as would probably be realistic) it's going seriously impact the game in a negative way. -

halved? 15 kph? That's less than 10 mph, or roughly a 6 minute 20 second mile run... I could do better than that back in grade school... I can guarantee that just about anyone on these messages boards with two legs and not 100 lbs over weight could sprint well in excess of 10 mph. Current sprint speed is like 18.5 mph, which is completely reasonable if carrying a light load and done over a short distance. The problem is running 18.5 mph for 15 miles... -

Just need dynamic stamina pool based on carry weight and current health condition. If sprint speed varied by like 3 kph based on carry weight that would be cool too. -
Incapacitation/ Kinectic knockdown discussion
taco86 replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
It really all comes down to "impulse". If the impulse is short enough (theoretically), even the amount of energy in one step is enough to liquify a person. In a simplified case of the bullet vs the rifle where both retain 50% of the energy from the exploding gasses, the rifle obviously has a much much greater impulse which essentially spreads the force over a greater period of time massively reducing the snap Gs tissues experience around the butt stock. In the case of the bullet, the impulse will be relatively extremely short, especially while tumbling/expanding. This means that the G's experienced around the wound far exceed what is survivable. Cells and everything else starts to be blasted apart and a nasty wound cavity is produced. -

A square shot to the heart is pretty much instant death dude... There really is no chance of coming back from that. The lung and kidney shots though? Going to take a while in most cases depending on the round used. In the case of a lung shot, most rifle rounds will not pass through enough tissue to start tumbling/dumping effectively unless it hits a rib or equipment. If surgeons are rapidly available, a lung shot is highly survivable. -
So you (being in "Great shape") run 3 miles in about half an hour (impressive with full kit, no sot much with a t and shorts). In dayz a dude runs 10 miles in 30 minutes, I'm really having a hard time understanding how your post somehow justifies this. You, a "super in shape dude", run 3 miles in roughly 3x the time it takes someone to do the same in dayz, so yeah...
-
KOS for sure, it's just so much more fun.
-
OMG KOS noobert
-
Do you believe people who shoot on sight are terrible at DayZ?
taco86 replied to GriefSlicer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I'd say I KOS at least 90% of the time. Dropping someone at 400m with an m4 is far more exiting than listening to some squeaker tell me about something I was happier not knowing. Overall, this game is far more fun when people are shooting at each other rather than holding hands and collecting oranges together. -
mk12mod0 for full length ar-15 please

AKS-74U confirmed... could this mean...? no...

If the 74u is chambered in 5.56x45mm I'm going to have an aneurysm. -
An arrow or bolt will stop dead on any hard armor, even hard kevlar. Many cut "proof" armor is also capable of completely defeating the majority of arrows or bolts. It however can slice right through the vast majority of non stab resistant soft ballistic armor. If the press vest that is currently in the game is soft lvl3a with no plates then I'd like to see it provide no damage reduction or additional protection against arrows/bolts.
-
This is entirely untrue... "more complicated to treat", please... A typical arrow head causes trauma by severing tissues... A bullet on the other hand causes trauma by rapid kinetic energy dump thus stressing surrounding tissues to g levels that they can in no way survive... An arrow leaves a predicatable wound pattern far more in line with a stab wound which is FAR FAR more easy to treat than a cavity filled with liquified flesh coated with thousands of lead bullet fragments. Furthermore, the raw surface area and volume of the internal wound is far larger for that of the bullet than an arrow. Here is what a 55gr m16 bullet can do at 3,850+ fps (m16a2 fires them at 3250 fps)... All 1800+ ft/lbs of energy dumped within 10 inches... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPLfRrn2WHI

What I actually did was compare the service ammunition of each caliber used within service side arms. 9mm nato, which is just barley shy of +P, vs your standard 230gr .45 acp fmj. These are both standard ammo used by nato forces in these calibers.
-
What "additional power" :P 9mm 124gr nato is around 440-460 ft/lbs of energy out of a 4-4.5 inch barrel. I've seen 5 inch barrel nato rated 9's spitting 124grs at over 1320 fps, which is around 480+ ft/lbs. .45acp 230 gr is around 350 ft/lbs.

If grass cannot be rendered and simulated all the way out to the edge of player rendering range then it needs to be removed... As others have pointed out, the way grass effects game play is actually the complete opposite as one would expect.
-
Sadly the implementation of the ballistic helmets makes no sense... Realistically a 3a kpot helm can defeat tens of .45acp and .357 before failure... A single 5.56 though? Yeah right... Hicks shooting stuff, enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9OSc5FKe98

It's essentially the "natural" deviation of the firearm. Smaller number = better.
-
Not bad for a first run... I'd like to see a few changes though. Mosin and cz527 should have their moas swapped. Blaser should be reduced to sub 2.5 moa, and 10/22 should be at least 5. Thanks for the info btw gews.
