What's needed is a more robust hitbox system. As silly as it sounds, think of WOT or war thunder. Both of those games have hit boxes within hit boxes... What i mean by that is that the individual crew members and specific portions of the tank (engines, turret ring, ammo) are all geometrically placed within the larger hit box of the tank to attempt to simulate a wider variety of effects other than just taking damage. Imagine if the characters in dayz were modeled in a similar manner, allowing even the .22lr to drop someone in 1 hit if you managed to hit them in the heart as an example.

But they don't have the "Same" possibilities of killing you... If we're talking heart shot, or brain stem shot, fine... Beyond those specific areas, a 7.62 has a FAR FAR FAR greater "possibility" of wasting you... As for the "gunshot is a gunshot" bit... That's really not true at all as there are drastic difference in terminal effects between loads even in the same cal.

While you do have a point, that dead is dead, the amount of tissue damage and physical trauma between the two is no where even remotely comparable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEDo_PbAvJc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGYF8DTLcj4

Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion

Well obviously energy comparison is an over simplified way of looking at "lethality". Lethality is all about shot placement and the particular load your running... As for their capacity to dump energy (this is what really counts), most 20% ballistic gel tests show EXTREMELY similar results with the .45 acp dumping energy very slightly faster. The general conclusion being that the difference in the stopping power between the two is much much smaller than is commonly believed. I'll give you this though, .45 acp is the more enjoyable cartridge to shoot. Edit: Cap'n, I thought the cr75 in game is a cz75 shadow sp01 with a 4.925 inch threaded barrel. Also, the cz75b i linked was not as a "replacement" but an addition. Similar to the custom 1911. -

Well elle, it really depends on which loads we are talking about... If we're comparing the .45 acp to the slightly lower pressure 9mm luger (35,000 psi) the .45 acp tends to come out on top, by a little tiny bit... However, compared to 9mm nato or 9mm p+ (36,500 psi), the .45 acp has a bit less energy. Of course there are very hot hand loads for both that produce in excess of 500 ft/lbs. E=m*v^2 230 gr us army fmj at 830 fps = 352 ft/lbs 124 gr m882 9mm nato at 1270 fps = 441 ft/lbs. P.S. both of the 9mm in the game are rated for usage with the higher pressure 9mm, the p1 was specifically designed to use it as well. P.P.S. I'd love to see a more classic cz75, maybe even something rare as hell, similar to the ivory 1911. Here is a great example, CZ 75B Cold War Commemorative. -

To be completely honest, most of the .45 vs 9mm comparisons are completely over blown... The .45 acp actually has less KE than most 9mm loads, however it's rate of energy dump is very slightly faster (talking jhp here). Wound channels, both temp and permanent are also extremely similar, as is depth of penetration... I bet if you take a 20 inch block of 20% ballistic gel and shoot it with both, the bullets will end up at almost the exact same depth, probably around 16-18 inches (again, assuming jhp). 9mm is also FAR FAR more efficient in terms of the amount of KE produced compared to the weight of powder. This is why a .45acp pistol will recoil a bit more, but produces less overall muzzle energy. -
This is exactly what has happened, pretty much all of the old m4a1 spawn locations have been replaced with AKMs. Granted, the AKM actually makes a bit of sense showing up in the quantities that it is on exe compared to the m4a1... In the end, I'd say "balance" is "worse" than it was prior. The akm is more powerful than the m4a1, has a larger possible mag, has easier to aquire ammo, and only needs two attachments to turn it into a sniper rifle (pso, and a folding stock), where the m4a1 needs 3 (magpul stock, magpul grip, and an acog). For this reason, I believe that the placement of the m4a1 at crash sites has far more to do with pseudo realism and immersion, than it does with balancing out an "over powered" weapon which is actually worse than the one that replaced it.

Hopefully it's something a bit more "modern". Another ww1/2 era rifle would be a bit silly atm... I'd very much like to see a remington 700, or cz550.

EDITED - PETITION: Should a sound be made when we log on and off?
taco86 replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Logging out sound? Naaa.... Logging in sound? It most certainly should be there, this was the best "ghosting" protection we had... Should it be direction specific though? Not at all... -
M4 w/o magpul kit = worst accuracy of any of the rifles, m4 with magpul kit = 3rd best accuracy of any of the rifles... Prone and bipod with magpul stuff = perfect accuracy, just as the mosin has with the compensator or bipod.
-
Meh, I'd rather it be a Winchester or Uberti model 1873 chambered in .357. IMO the marlins are kind of crap quality, and the 1894s chambered in .357 or .44 tend to have stove piping issues compared to the 1873s.

I'm going to run some potential pristine/badly damaged rifle moa numbers by people, to see what they think... Please add, or correct if you disagree... sks 10/40 moa m4a1 6/24 moa akm 12/48 moa mosin 9130 8/32 moa b95/97 4/16 moa 10/22 8/32 moa

I just want a bit of consistency.... If the devs want weapons to have worse accuracy than their real world counterparts (within reason), i'm fine with it, so long as it's applied relatively equally.
-
The solution is to just not play at night time which is already overwhelmingly the norm... It seems that many have already been broken to the notion that the problem is "unfixable" which means that any resemblence of "fair play" is and will continue to be out the window... Orlock did mention that there are methods that can be taken to help mitigate this problem, however removing it all together will never be possible outside of heavily restricted lan parties.
-
Sks has a longer barrel, netting it close to 100 ft/lbs more energy at the muzzle... This is about a 6-7% increase compared to the akm.
-
More like how bad a shot the gun wants to be at the time you shoot it... SKS dispersion is horrendous, don't expect consistency beyond anything over 100m... The gun should be shooting in the 3-5 moa range, not the 25-30 moa range....

No "Specialized" Cartridges [Torchia Tweet]

Hmmm... This is actually a tough one... I'd go with 5.45x39, 7.62x54r, and .338. -
No "Specialized" Cartridges [Torchia Tweet]
taco86 replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
The key portion of the tweet is "its inefficient to add it in with the current loot sys". This quote gives two major clues imo... First and most importantly... The current loot system is not absolute, there are obvious problems with it that the developers have acknowledged. Secondly, specialized cartriges are not "off the table" assuming a new more robust and dynamic loot spawning system... Still plenty of room for optimism in regards to this weapon... We all just need to be realistic about time lines... Don't expect to see it within the next 2 years. -
The question is in the title. I'm seriously wondering why the cross bow is a one hit to the chest with it's 100ish ft/lbs of energy... In comparison, the m4 takes several body/chest shots yet it has over 1,200 ft/lbs of energy? Realistically an arrow/bolt wound is childs play compared to high velocity rifle wounds. P.S. This is not a "buff m4" request, the m4 was simply used as an example.

I'm not a fan of the "hide body" mechanic, at all... Hopefully it's just a place holder untill I can actually hide bodies via dragging them into difficult to find places...

no, you said "A bone stock mosin, firing military surpus ammo does not have any advantages over anyone." litterally two posts above the one i have quoted here....

Will the late May update fix the broken distance rendering?
taco86 replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
Do you know that those "huge fake bullet impacts" are not at all "huge or fake". Morso, watching where a bullet lands is EXTREMELY important for long range shooting... -
Why does the cross bow do more damage than the m4?
taco86 replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
The only bullet in common use that has a "comparable" energy level to that of a bolt/arrow is the .22lr... Even the .17 hmr has over 2x the energy of your typical 150 lb xbow... I've given you the equation, and explained the physics... it's completely on you to accept reality or to keep trolling.
