  1. I love the idea behind this server and will definitely play on it over the next weeks. Especially However Kerbos post worries me a bit. After all ARTyom wrote I find that strange.
  2. inb4 facoptere: DayZ commander is not working Won't find servers correctly or shows them as offline. It seems to die at a different pace for different users. My commander stopped working a few days ago, others' weeks ago, my buddy's still works. Update DayZ to the latest beta with Steam and then use DayZLauncher. You need to download all sub-mods (Epoch, maps,...) again.

    Dayz Epoch

    By the way, "Scavenger" is just the rank you get with your post count. The username is in grey above the avatar and the rank. The explanation by anderswhk is good, but the problem with Epoch (problem both in the mod and the understanding of it) is, that you don't change the game's difficulty level just by going from vanilla to Epoch. BUT: most servers that run Epoch want to make it easy, to there's a lot of loot, easy nutrition, easy zombies. There are difficult Epoch servers, but not many. Most Epoch servers are getting very close to Overpoch, which is militarized Epoch without survival.

    DayZ Mod 1.8.3 FeedBack

    Had a few hours on 1.8.3 last night. - Overall performance really good, I like the new near-death effects. - Heavy graphic bugs, like flickering white/black/brown 3D-planes (not aircraft^^) for some view directions especially - Used a blood test kit on myself. Got all 4 spots red, table shows 0-. Besides my bloodicon I then had B-. Why is that, and what currently happens if I use a incompatible bloodbag? You'll understand I do not wanna try it :D Suggestions: TIC321's suggestion about the radio reminded me of servers which give you group management with the radio. So you can have your buddies on the map or see them tagged if you aim at them. And you can use chat and voicechat inside those groups, which would take the endless sidechatting away. Not sure but I think it's not a vanilla feature, but it could be. Servers could just add or remove the radio as spawn loadout to use the feature.

    Umm it's not primarily the processor speed, it's the lack of a graphics card altogether. I cannot see DayZ run on that machine at all, I am surprised it even started up and loaded the map without crapping its pants by shuffling all of Chernarus onto the HDD swap file. I am even more surprised you ran HalfLife2 with more than 10fps. If you insist you can only set all graphic options to either "off" or to the very minimum setting. You probably already had to to this to get 10fps. Not more knobs to turn, sorry m8.

    You can bind the key for "sitting down" then breed lootpiles. Eventually, a hatched will -er- hatch.

    Installing

    Just making sure here: DayZ is for free, but not the game it is a mod for. You need ArmA2 and ArmA2 Operation Arrowhead. Either directly from steam OR you insert your CD Key into steam. Then install DayZ mod for free in Steam.

    Assuming we are talking about DayZ Mod Vanilla: 1. Afaik it's in the game. Servers may be able to activate it. 2. Does exist on various servers (for example UK431) 3-5. and 7. It's limited to what is in ArmA. If you demand "more" try overwatch 6. The maps are neutral and unchanged. However, servers can freely insert buildings (Overwatch) 8. Like what? BUGS: 1&2. Deal with it 3. Every anticheat will be followed by a better cheat, we have to deal with it 4. Dunno about that. Probably desync
  10. Okay. So neither reinstalling any part of the game software involved nor reinstalling sub-mods from within different launchers will mess up with my characters on the servers? By the way, please stop commanding people, that's rude. I appreciate you want to help.
  11. So I got a question regarding this topic. My DayZCommander works perfectly, although 2 weeks ago it did not find any servers at all. BUT right now it works just fine. However I want to be prepared in case it dies on me and I have to switch to another launcher: Will I lose my characters on my usual servers if I use another launcher? How to prevent that?
  12. Umm hard to follow you there. Here's what I did: edit: I did some googleing and found out DayZcommander stopped working for some people with some ArmA patch it seems. I always keep everything up to date in Steam and in the Commander and it worked fine this tuesday. So to be sure you might go to HERE -> http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/205545-dayz-commander-not-working-read-this-dayz-launcher-the-new-alternative/ Still, you most likely have to install DayZ Mod in Steam what you did not describe in your post.
  13. Epoch gives you basebuilding and traders. Overwatch gives you tons of different weapons and they spawn everywhere. Overpoch is the combination. Plus, almost all servers are filled with additional AI missions and lots of additional buildings/fortresses/AI-bases and so on. Survival per se is not important in those mods. Hunger/Thirst/Infections/Zeds, don't care about it. Also, you usually get shot before getting hungry. Overwatch is harder than Epoch because everyone has got a gunback full of sniper rifles^^ But as you usually spawn with a full gear you don't care if you die. "Oh no my armored Huey crashed and I lost my CheyTac, damn not I gotta buy a new one"...

    Still needs less food

    Probably less cans, more animals. But it's useless if you starve while eating a cow. You can always play on a server with reduced food. Vanilla food spawn need to be dependant on the majority of players.

    Looking for sth like this for a while. Extreme realism both concerning threats but also possibilities. Winter storms are very real, self-BB and remove clothing also is. I just feel like there is not a ton of players looking for that kind of experience, probably they don't think vanilla needs more realism. Why would hardcore vanilla players hate base building, if it can only be archived if you are a masterful survivor? It's not for everyone, don't forget that you need to spend many hours archieving a little bit of something on this kind of server. Not everyone out there has got that free time for gaming. If I can only play for a few hours a week I do not want to spend them on running across the map just to starve. One of the reasons Overpoch is so popular. Instant fun in DayZ universe. A populated hardcore-realism Epoch server would sure be a nice thing!
  16. Yeah well Epoch sees itself as next evolution step in the DayZ universe. I see you like building but not trading. There is nothing wrong with trading. Your server could aswell go with a trader. To start trading is typical for a population of survivors, much like building would be, too. It's (1) just the vast amount of loot that almost all Overpoch servers have. Tons and tons of loot. Barracks everywhere. Plus, (2) traders always buy and sell everything limitless. And it's (3) the almost nonexistent thread of dying of natural causes or Zeds. I play on a Mod server with little modifications, one of them being a single trader. Still loot is rare, and prices are high. If you need to risk your fading life just to sell your only rifle to buy a bloodbag+test, it feels nothing like Epoch, where you just need one lootrun to fully gear up. Also I used to play on an Epoch server which had limits on trader stocks and dynamic prices. So much about the possibilities the mod provides. Your server does the same, it represents your choice of modular elements. DayZ with building is what you want, and I agree. Maybe most vanilla players decide they want to build too within DayZ because it does not disturb realism. So maybe DayZ slowly becomes exactly that, by just adding the realistic aspects of Epoch into the mod.
  17. Well, if you play DayZ mod, I mean pure vanilla DayZ mod, you are playing a zombie survival game. As it is right not it's too hard to play it CoD style. Yes, it has been that way, but that stopped with the development of Epoch (trading, vehicle ownership, base building) and Overwatch (guns everywhere), where the survival aspects are close to zero. Since then, the majority of players went there to have fun on PvP, construction, AI missions. Life's easy there. Your belongings are safe within your vaults, your vehicles are locked, the money's on the bank account. The zombies are still there but you can pretty much forget about them. As of today there are much more Epoch/Overwatch/Overpoch servers than DayZ servers. -> Spawn with an assault rifle, loot a few barracks, sell that stuff, buy a full gear, go on missions or PvP. There are no friendlies (except on PvE-only Epoch, which basically is a construction game) At the same time, DayZ itself was reduced to the players who want to focus on survival, yet not ruling out the existence of KoS-bandits. Or pure heroes. The patches made it harder but also more versatile, with crafting close to what you would think of in a real survival situation. Without thinking about where to get food and water or medical supplies you will pretty soon die of dehydration or infection. Long before you gear up to a ghillie sniper. -> Play cautiously, outsmart the zombies, use the surroundings, constantly loot to keep your guy healthy, don't die! Then decide to go hero or bandit if you want and can. Just please do not mix up DayZ and "those fun mods". If you want a zombie survival game play vanilla DayZ, If you want to have easy fun in the same universe play Overpoch. I would recommend you try both.

    We're better than world class athletes. World class athletes can run dozens of miles, or cycle hundreds of miles. But can they down a pallet of pepsi and digest several cows while doing that? See, we're better than world class athletes. ( At least we do not try squatting with tons of construction material on out backs. That's just wrong :D )

    Dayz Tents and Items?

    Tents for me persist after server restart. Some servers may have a feature that deletes tents which were not used for some days/weeks. Also, as most people squeeze their tents underneath pinetrees, they might disappear due to that placement. As for the other question in the first post: All items on the map NOT stored away in a tent or vehicle disappear on server restart. This is necessary, because if everything is persistent, and loot keeps spawning, the map soon will be full of stuff and that will kill the performance. But if you really want to experience DayZ while being able to settle, try Epoch. Big part of the DayZ experience is losing your belongings to others or by dying. If you want to own more than you can carry or want to save stuff for your next life, you have to be clever hiding it. Stashes... never placed one. As far as I understood it, you only need etool and sandbag, and you can upgrade it with wood. It turns into a medium stash after five upgrades. Not until then you can acutally store a single weapon in them! Medium stash can then be upgraded five more times, doubling weapon slots each time. For that you officially needs wood and crates. Has that been replaced by nails??? I think I never found a crate OR nails^^ So basically it's a hell of a task until it really becomes useful. Then again it's well hidden. I'll maybe try putting a simple one down for storing medicals and consumables.
  20. The ingame server browser is totally useless and plainly a pain to use. DayZCommander is sometimes buggy but really good at handling all the different mods and their servers. Got it's own integrated update routines for everything and filters all servers by mod and version. I only use the ingame server browser when the Commander has decided to stop working for a day or two ;-)

    DayZ Aim type of servers

    Nah its a good idea in general. I think so because atm vehicle passengers are trapped sitting ducks, and that's not very realistic. But I would probably separate between two kinds of "seats"... ones that work with primary weapons (oven vehicles, heli skids, back of atv/motorcycle) and ones that only work with sidearms (closed vehicles). Otherwise it'll just be stationary vodnik-sniperfortresses and triple-M240-drivebys. I am wondering, with all that mods in your list, would it still be DayZ+shoot-as-passenger or more like a whole new mod like Overwatch that exclusively got shoot-as-passenger? I personally would rather see only the basic idea of this thread implemented, no additional stuff besides that. Plus it sounds like a ton of work, that. Will you be able to shoot 360°? Can you accidentally shoot other passengers? Is the vehicle window influencing this? But DayZ as-is but with the possibilty to shoot out of vehicles in a realistic manner - why not.

    I agree. I would also give them even more, like a knife, a clock or a compass. Probably backpacks? Its very likely for "real" zombies to carry random stuff. It's that random stuff which makes DayZ unique. I would like to see more need for (and use in) looting zeds for everyday stuff. At the moment they do sometimes carry useful loot, but not enough to make me actually think about killing them for survival reasons. edit, avoiding doubleposting: Another thing: Since I recently rediscovered how much better Dayz I like compared to Epoch/Overpoch, I have read a lot in various forums, here and elsewhere. I also had chat talks with friendly players ingame. So - I probably tread on some feet here, but I just feel like speaking for a lot of player out there: Please review the nutrition system. My humble suggestions, don't read if you are not interested:

    Keep Firemode

    Weapon firemode automatically resets to default when the weapon is drawn, for instance if I quickly use the sidearm against some zeds. I personally find it quite annoying to have my M16 resetting itself to semi everytime, and I have to switch to burst everytime. Would be nice if that is being kept at least while I have the weapon equipped! Dunno if possible at all or buried in ArmA engine...

    am i going crazy or am I hearing things?

    Every 10 minutes or so, I hear an engine idling for a few secs and then stopping, like if some1 would "engine off" or "get out" of a vehicle. This happens everytime I play, everywhere on the map, even in remote wilderness. My squadmates cannot hear it. Wtf?
