'sup? Yesterday I got banned on every BE server running Overpoch. Tried a ton of stuff, no success. Then a guy in Epoch forums told me there is a new OA beta out that messes with BE. I have yet to confirm if that was the root cause... after some of the old servers unbanned me. I know this is DayZ mod forums, but I'm asking if this is a known issue in general. Should Arma and OA run on the betas or not?

HARDCORE | FINALdayZ | Epoch Survival | The TOUGHEST Server in DayZ
melaw replied to Cartoonrboy's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The low temperatures alone will make every experienced DayZ player struggle. It's really more a role play game than a shooter if set up this way. Concerning the building - it's probably still less limited than most Epoch servers. You don't need a plotpole and you can fortify every existing builing if you're not blocking areas off. -

Still buggy for DayZlauncher. Messup with the command line parameters, and DZL devs give zero fs. I strongly suggest that everyone who is interested in this unique experience to use the batchfile and give it a try. -
Ok so after 1.8.3 came out, nothing updated itself. I had to manually bring the mod (not OA) to the new latest beta in steam. Just making sure, because I installed DayZ on a buddy's PC and the mod came without the latest beta.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you have to bring DayZMod to the latest beta within steam or within a launcher?!

I get the impression that the DayZ community isn't into zombies
melaw replied to zombieland78's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"Infected humans" who have no goal other than brainlessly melee-attacking non-infected humans to kill&eat them while ignoring wounds and making disturbing noises... ...well you might as well call them zombies because they are exactly that: zombies. It's not DayIH after all, it's DayZ. The question is, and it is a very important question, how should they behave to MATTER is this universe. Zeds should be the main threat in this postapocalyptic world, while (of course) the remaining humans can (and must) decide between hero and bandit, sometimes only for a certain situation. But your daily survival has to be all about avoiding and fighting zombies. Not just looting around them, running past them, shaking them off by running straight through a house (because they derp indoors), seeing them as a nuisance. It should NOT be PvP with zeds, but survival in a zombie apocalypse with multiplayer aspects. Especially that you have to work together to survive. I think vanilla at the moment does quite a good job already. Especially if you come back from other sub-mods. This is important to me because I myself went off for fun&games in Overpoch and came back, because it wasn't DayZ anymore, but "Open world Arma with food". BUT: can't we make it even better? more frightening? more realistic? more "omfg zombies!! sh*t I don't wanna die!!" ? As I was new to DayZ over a year ago, I was being told: See, these are the zombies, they hurt you a bit sometimes, just run around them or hide in a pinetree. If they annoy you just go inside. I was like, ok, sounds simple... and it was. That changed, for me vanilla servers became much harder (thank god, it's not soviet GTA or Battlefield:Cherno) Basically, the zeds have to be so hard, that you HAVE TO work together with other players to gear up and settle down. Just my 2 cents of course, but I think the pure milsim without real zed threat belongs to submods. -

I feel many people want that military wasteland experience. Like some kind of post-apocalyptic scenario where you live and fight. "Open world mil-sim with survival aspects". Zombies are not necessary. For people who really want DayZ with capital Z: It's very difficult to create good zombies. That starts with their general behaviour. If they are fast and follow you forever, you have to lose them in buildings (because they have to walk indoors which is just extremely stupid in general, it cannot get more unrealistic). Also, you cannot sneak around them if they notice you immediatly. At the moment there is little space for a good zombie feeling. Either it's a running simulator, or they are irrelevant. IMO there have to be LOTS of zeds, with high damage, and I prefer them NOT running at all. So that you really have to use tricks and your surrounding landscape/loot to survive. I've yet to see a plausible zombie behaviour besides the one on FinalDayZ. -
DZGM (group management via radio) does everything necessary. The question is, should it be integrated into vanilla?

Please bring the L85A2 AWS back in the game
melaw replied to DarkBoy141's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Bloody cheaters who cheat unlimited ammo may aswell cheat themselves any bloody weapon they like. Removing automatic weapons is just stupid AND useless for what you had in mind. For all adjustments TOWARDS milsim or AWAY from milsim: There are endless possibilities for server owners to adjust the game. Here we talk about vanilla. I agree that AWS does not fit in vanilla. -
I disconnect every few mins at the same time as my brother

Depends on how you connect to servers. If you use a launcher program, look in the settings for "command line parameters" -
DayZ Commander not working? Read this. [DayZ-Launcher - the new alternative]
melaw replied to MadWookie's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
CrniVarg, use Steam to verify Arma, OA, then DayZmod. Launch every part once after verification. Bring the mod to latest beta (within Steam). Then reinstall the launcher. That should fix stuff. I never use the launcher on any of those software packages, just for additional mods/maps. Also, DZL programmer seems to follow the DZC programmer about giving a shht about bugs or errors. I have a strong feeling lots of inexperienced players are heavily confused with what's going on. In a perfect world commander gets an update that either fixes stuff or brings a message about it NOT working anymore AND the DZL gets some kind of official forum. *sigh* -

As far as I know you spawn with a working one. Some freshspawn *told* me so that alone is proof. Winter greetings from Aggro -
FPS Issues (Probably connected with the intergrated graphics card)
melaw replied to mz0flick's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
You can check if it helps you by going to the task manager (tab out of the game), go to processes, choose ArmA2OA, the right click menu has an option that allows you to uncheck all processor cores but one. (dunno how that's called in english Windows... the one below "priority") Now the game runs from one kernel only. This resets if you restart the game. It's a known issue (for example on UnrealTournament99) for old games on multicore CPUs. Also try running in a window, while watching the GPU temperature. There should also be a systray icon showing if the discrete GPU is active. -
Old router? Wifi?

I've also seen servers which tell the killer's name in the "study body" display. Not very realistic, but all death messages aren't in the first place
-
Make sure you do not use DayZCommander but DayZLauncher.
-
If you play hero you can knockout enemies who threaten you. Take their weapon away and let them live.
-
It's common that way on non-vanilla servers. And it's a good thing, because it makes people hunt for bandits. Problem: Bandits kill everyone, including other bandits. If there are only a few other bandits, they will lose humanity by killing mainly survivors or heroes. But if there are many other bandits around, all bandits will not have high negative humanity by constantly killing each other. Hard to think of an elegant solution... I thought about losing your victims humanity (some percentage of it) but that calculation has to be balanced, so that you turn bandit/hero in a fair amount of kills.

A $1k+ uber leet machine running its OS from a regular HDD would just be wrong. A SSD is simply better. Without giving arguments, even it there are so many :D

I don't know how Arma 2 free works, but you have to go "the steam way" in order to play DayZ, there's no way around. So you need at least Arma2 and OA in your steam game library, more Arma2 addons for better textures.

I was thinking: Why can't I use a road flare to light a fireplace? It is possible in real life and would save your hungry/cold ass ingame if you have no matches. I don't know if it would just work like the matches via rightclick menu, or by throwing onto a fireplace or into a barrel lights it up. (side remark: can barrels currently be lit without matches? I never actually tried to do that) I know the delicate game balance of matches would be disturbed, as flares are common and the rareness of matches is being used to control the hunting possibilites. But still, having a perfect ignition source (way better than a match) and not being able to light a fire with it is a bit annoying.
-
Next steps would be using steam to bring DayZ to the latest beta 1.8.3 and then install DayZLauncher to find servers, download submods, etc.

DZL is not bugfree, it tends to mess up command line parameters too. Plus, the interface is so much worse than DayZCommander's. I also thought "what do they want, DZC works fine" but it doesn't. Nearly all of my favourite servers show up as offline in the commander although they work fine. As matter of fact it only works with very old serverlist files, and what comes up as search result is pretty much random. Inconsistent as well, mine shows other servers than on my buddy's PC: It's befitting for a zombie game launcher to have the launcher becoming undead as well. It's good at making you think it's alive and kicking. Try to get used to the DayZLauncher. It's not so bad at all, and I really hope it will be developed further. A forum would be a good start. It's a shame that many many players who don't know a thing about Gamespy and Steam and how they handle the server lists still try to find their favourite servers in DayZCommander and fail to get proper results. Not even error messages, just outdated and/or wrong results. The makers of DZC have not showed any reaction to this at all.

Epoch is a seperate mod and not an addon to the mod. Updates made in DayZ Mod do NOT automatically apply to Epoch unless the Epoch devs integrate them manually. You have to ask there or at least confirm that you have the problems in vanilla DayZ Mod too.
