I noticed this last night, the experimental servers were doing this weird thing where people were getting booted every few minutes. Every time I tried to go back in I have a 3 minute wait. I would get to play for 3 minutes, wait for 3, play for 3, wait for 3.. GRR!!!! I like the thought behind it, but there needs to (and hopefully can be) a way to distinguish between someone who timed out, and someone who manually quit to server hop.

There are a few threads that talk about the rendering distances etc.. no settings you can adjust to make it any better last I recalled reading.

Seconded, When I spawn, first place I run is Elektro. Never anyone around and I can kit up pretty good. Always some decent mil gear in a few select spots I happen to know of and can be back up to a respectable kit in less than an hour

Server hopping will only stop when random loot is implemented
cuwe replied to rodolfoxiii's topic in General Discussion
Been said a million times before, but there are many people involved in the project. Are the people who work on creating items and mapping etc supposed to just sit and do nothing while the staff who work on netcode and collision issues etc work on the major bugs? Everyone in the crew is working on the parts they are there to work on, some things just get done sooner due to ease of solution than others. Just be patient, I am sure they are busting their asses to get the major items solved... some things take more time than others :) -
@Stout, I agree with your "fear logging" term.. sounds good to me. Also agree with the difference between logging and hopping. Well, enough of this chit chatting.. logging in so I can go and have a run. Only 2 hours to Walking Dead ;) Need to go play a bit Good gaming!

No sir, I am not trying to bait, just as you mentioned, stating my opinion :) And to answer the poster above you, when I log in to play, I stay in for hours on end and only leave if I am going AFK for food, or sleep. So in essence, if you are logging out only to log in on another server right after you logged out, then yes you are doing something wrong (in my opinion), but my opinion (and yours) really only mattter to each of us. The OP has to decide if what he did was right or wrong and he is the one who has to live with it :) Good gaming to you!

I think the point is that the first combat had a huge chance of leading to subsequent combat, which he chose to log out to avoid. There are consequences to your actions. Granted he had no choice but to shoot at the first group attacking him, but in doing so he has to deal with the consequences and do what it takes to secure his escape. Logging out to avoid the consequences is not the most honorable thing to do. Gear can be replaced.. honor not so much ;)

I know of at least 1 building in Elektro that spawns a Mosin on the roof more times than not. Another one just up the road from the Mosin almost always has a pistol. Don't give up on the roofs so easily :)

IMO, if you have to ask the question "am I a (fill in the blank)" then the answer is usually yes. You know in your heart if what you are doing is the honorable thing or not, but that being said, in your circumstances atleast the main battle had terminated, you didn't up and log out because they gained the upper hand. Those are the worst of the worst!

Lack of missions have no effect on if the game becomes PvP or not, there are always people who will be the "Interweb tough guy" and feel the need to run around being a douchebag and killing people. You put missions in, and the people trying to do the same mission will kill each other trying to get the "goal" complete... there will ALWAYS be PvP regardless

In my experience, the second you have a backpack, you are bait for anyone who is a "loot whore". I have been a new spawn with a backpack and been shanked for an empty backpack.

The Anti-Game - Why DayZ will stay a crappy game
cuwe replied to tommes's topic in General Discussion
I wasn't intending to do such (and honestly don't know where you got that from my post), my whole train of thought was just that each person needs to decide why they are playing, what the outcome they want to see is. For me, as mentioned, it is all about the interactions and the fear of encountering a stranger and not knowing what the hell is gonna happen. I too am looking forward to many improvements (but only those geared towards realism. I am a big fan of realistic mods and sims... I only hope this game stays true to the survival realism. -
The Anti-Game - Why DayZ will stay a crappy game
cuwe replied to tommes's topic in General Discussion
While your post has some merit, every person describes "fun" in a different way. For me, the "fun" in DayZ is not about "looting up" and trying to be king shit, for me the fun is scrounging off the leftovers and trying to survive while maintaining some shred of humanity. This game calls into question your morals and each time you spawn, or each time you sit down, dependant upon your mood or what happened in your previous run through the game, sometimes you may be a moral helper, sometimes you may be a bandit, sometimes you may go Charles Manson, and sometime you may just run around in your underwear screaming at people being the crazy cat lady... for me, all those scenarios are fun. When I first started playing I was all about "MY gear", but now, I know gear is easily replaced, it is the interactions I am enjoying.. So I guess what you need to do, is question why YOU want to play this game. If you want to be top of the leaderboards (which don't exist) then go find somethign else to play, if you want to have some intense, unpredictable human interaction then come on down asnd boot up DayZ- 198 replies

krags, You need to expand your horizons... do what my buddy does now. He spawns, strips down to his undies, puts on a clown mask and runs around scaring people. He goes on voice comms and gives a death scream and runs at them with his hands up and leaning side to side... you would not believe how many people he has scared so bad they turn and run for the hills. I have told him to get some video so we can post it up online for all to enjoy, I hope on his next outing he does as much. It's funny as hell to watch! I am contemplating on my next respawn doing the same thing for a good laugh

How funny is it watching bad players? Let's hear your stories...
cuwe replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
Not sure if it is a bad player or just an oblivious one... I was on the outside of the fence of the power plant in Elektro and saw a guy coming down off the roof on the ladder. I called out to him and said "friendly, just looking for supplies. I will lower my gun and you lower yours". I got no reply, but he raised his weapon and started to look for me. I was in 3rd person at the time and watched as he darted in and out of the generators looking for me. Meanwhile a zombie was following him around, close on his tail. He stopped and was trying to determine where I was and I warned him "Zombie about to hit you from behind" and he just stood there looking around trying to zero in on me, took a zombie hit and started gushing... he ran to the ladder and climbed back up onto the roof. I kept my eye on him until i saw him squat and then just made my way back into town. -
Please add a death playback /killcam optional function into the GAME
cuwe replied to msy's topic in Suggestions
Sorry... this is a horrible idea (IMO). If you don't want to get killed, play more tactically. As many others have mentioned, this isn't CoD or BF.. With the respawn method in DayZ, seeing a kill cam is useless, no one is going to kill you, and sit and wait the 1 hour you need to run to get back to where you were and be waiting in the same spot, rendering a kill cam useless. If you are in a group and someone gets killed, take cover, use your eyes, locate the shooter and use tactics to counter him. The things DayZ doesn't have (stats, kill cams, nade spamming, etc..) is what makes it so much more exciting to play. You have to value your life in DayZ, you don't spawn with an RPG, 15 nades, 230 rounds of ammo and a LMG.. you have to work for what you have and then work to keep it. -
Hey all, Been living in (and loving) the DayZ world for about a week now and just stumbled across these forums the other day. Been catching up on all the latest dev notes etc, and I have seen very little mentioned on player stats and just wanted to open a discussion about it. I did a search for other threads and I didn't see any in depth discussions so if it has been discussed before (and I am sure it has) then forgive me. That being said, I wanted to get some input from others on the necessity of stats. I personally love the lack of identifiers and stats in the game and hope it stays as such. Currently, you have no clue who you run into and as such have to actually have human interaction and talk with people (OMG actually talk with people!!!), discover who they are, and build a relationship. How much more realistic can it get? I honestly think the addition of absolutely any stat tracking is only going to boost the number of KOS players we have online. As soon as the glory hounds have a number they can put beside their name saying how good their K/D ratio is, they will do everything in their power to "be the best". All you have to do is look at the Call of Duty and Battlefield forums and see everyone posting their "1337" stats in their signatures... So I just wanted some other players input on if they agree and like it how it is (not knowing who you are looking at without actually talking to them) or if you want to see identifiers above peoples heads and see stats being included. And again, this thread was not started to get people arguing, just wanted to get a general feel for what the community as a whole thinks of stats in general. Thanks everyone and hope to run into you online... unless you are a KOS player, then I hope I don't run into you online ;) Happy looting everyone!

Agreed 100%, thanks for all the input gang... just wanted to know what the general feel was... and while this was a small sampling of replies, it a tleast gives me hope I can play on a server with some people and not be vaporized on sight because some guy wants to bump his ratio's
-
Those stats I would like, getting skill points etc.. but the main stat I do not want to see is # of kills. But I agree 100% with the stats you are speaking of and would gladly accept those :)
