^Bwhahahah... Sorry had to be said. Karma is a biatch!

My main point is that guns (even in a country with strict gun control like we have here) are readily available in many countries. Regardless, finding military gear is considerably less probable that finding civilian gear, and as such NVG should not be "oh, there's some beans, and some pipsi.. oh look a $1000 pair of NVG... SCORE!!!" I am a target shooter and own several different firearms, and I don't have ACOG scopes and NVG. And no one I know in my "firearms communities" does either. As such, military gear should be very limited, if there at all :) If I had to choose, I would say pull all firearms out completely rather than add more in, but that's just me. I want to use my brains to survive, play smarter not run and gun. That's what I have BF4 and CoD for :) I have been fully kitted in DayZ for the last 14-16 hours of gameplay, have yet to fire a shot at anything other than a Zed.. The only reason I carry a weapon is to ensure that when I do encounter someone who wants to run and gun, that I didn't bring a knife to a gunfight, but so far I have been able to avoid all confllicts.

Perhaps that is true in the country you live in, but where I am from, almost every farmer has rifles, shotguns, etc.. I own several myself.. Firearms (civilian ones) you would probably find in this country in about every 4th or 5th home. I am all for getting rid of military weapons in the game as well.. and I am opposed to Heli's as well. That being said, an SKS and a Mosin are not "military" gear (as I own one of each) so I am OK with those, the M4 and ACOG sights etc, I don't think should be there..

Elektro is not the "death zone" it once was. Honestly, every time I have re spawned I have sprinted from my spawn point right into EleKtro, gone to the one building I know ALWAYS has either an SKS or Mosin, and then run to the one building I know ALWAYS has a pistol and some ammo and I am fully kitted within about 30 minutes. Oddly enough I have not been shot at once in Elektro or Cherno. I almost recommend to people to run for Elektro now to gear up, seems since everyone tells nobody to go there, there is never anyone there lol.

NVG should not be brought in, IMO. Why are we making a survival game EASIER?? Is this gonna become CoDZ?? There is no "winning" at DayZ, there is no scoreboard... you don't need to get the most kills.. it is a test of you against nature, and yourself. The only person you have to get better than is yourself. Track your "life time" and when you die, respawn and try to beat your last time by playing smarter. that is the only way you "win" in this game.

Last night, running East towards Balota I approach the Airfield and see a fellow survivor looting the barracks. I stay outside the fence, and run to the APC broken through the fence. I had just come from a bad encounter with 8 or so zombies and was low on blood (screen very black and white and starting to get fuzzy). Anyways.. knowing I am not long for the world if I can't get some supplies, I take the chance. I call out on chat "Hello fellow survivor on the AF, I am very low on supplies and require food. I will be crossing to the ATC Tower to locate some food and drink. I will come out unarmed, I mean you no harm." I waited about 30-45 seconds for a response, and got none. No options left, I stand up, walk to the edge of the runway, scan left, scan right. No one in sight. Run to the ATC center and go inside. Locate some food and drink and get myself taken care of. I then peek out the window and see the guy bolt across to the hangers. I again call out "I am just finishing some food, I will be leaving the ATC Tower and heading north out of the airfield. I will keep all weapons on my back." I walk out, leave the AF and not a shot was fired, no conflict. Nice to see that common sense can still rear its head and 2 strangers can be within 50 feet of each other and not feel the need to shank each other :)

Do you believe people who shoot on sight are terrible at DayZ?
cuwe replied to GriefSlicer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
This is spot on. Bandits, I have zero issues with. They add intrigue and excitement to the game. The KoS guys, while not "playing wrong" they remove that interaction and intrigue and excitement, all so they can "keep their gear" Can't figure out how people can get so attached like that.. especially from fresh spawn you can be back tac'd up in less than an hour if you know where to go -
Answered yes to the first 2, there was a specific reason for needing help, the last option you didn't mention what he needed. A guy with that much kit rarely ever relies on others (except to rob and get more kit) so he was a maybe, depending on nature of his request

I think the best thing to do (assuming you are in no peril) is go stand in the area where the combat logger skipped out, wait for the tool to come back in on the same server after his time out ;) *SPAWN* "Ahh good the guy is..... you are dead! hehehe

Only 3 times: 1. Once as a fresh spawn, ran into a guy in a house looking for food, decided to axe me. 2. Ran into a guy with a .357 who was shooting at me and another relatively fresh spawn, the guy i was with killed him, and the dead guys buddy came and unloaded a magazine from his M4 at us as we stood over his body 3. Once I was in a house grabbing some cereal off the shelf, and a guy and his buddy walked in and attacked me. I killed one before falling to the second guy. Last time was probably 30 game hours ago or so

What is your fresh spawn tactic for fighting Zombies?

In all the hours I have put into playing (both in regular and HC) I have not once encountered a "cheater". not saying they don't exist, just saying that they are few and far between from what I have seen. Even all the guys I run with have not once mentioned being nerfed by a cheater. I think the big thing here (and not trying to insult you) is that you want to see a name of who killed you so you can "exact revenge". Seeing a guys name is not going to make a difference in him killing you, you can't tell if he is a cheater by his name (unless he calls himself "Sir haxalot" or "ihazaimbotskillzzzzzz") so names mean absolutely nothing. If you get killed, you get killed..

All very good points.. Love to see a bit more carnage added once the core issues are resolved etc.. another one that I would love (while it would kill FPS) is having roaming hordes of zombies.. like groups of 10-20 who are not static, but on a slow tour around the map.. random encounters with a horde would be NASTY!!

Make it an evening, less people working, more people playing ;) I'd love to come in and have some fun sometime, but being a 9-5 guy and 2 timezones away (MST) means no joy for me unless you start doing challenges in the 9-10pm EST range

*Shiver up spine* Excited to see if this rolls out to experimental soon (today). Looking forward to a few more new goodies!

If you don't witness a KoS how do you know it happened?? Unless you are in a convention, and a person is wearing a "Hello my name is" sticker, you don't have a damn clue who someone is, until you open a dialogue and talk to them... and that's how it should be. It certainly does not "SUCK". Anything that can add some realism and some mystery and some unknown factors only brings more intrigue to the game IMO :)

If you had to pick a side, would you consider yourself Good or Evil?
cuwe replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
I am right along with you, but have about 150hrs in game. I have not fired on a single survivor, I have not killed a single survivor. The problem with the question is there is no "black and white", the world of DayZ is all grey. Even in your statement, you say "I'd probably open fire on someone that was doing wrong to a player.." but if you are at a distance, how do you know the whole story. So your actions are (in your mind) good because you are helping someone who appears to be having wrong done to them, but they may have indeed just slaughtered the other persons entire band of buddies.. Every action, and counter action in DayZ is too situational to say you are good or evil. I will not willingly, without cause, ever take a life in DayZ.... that being said, what is "just cause"? If someone fires at me, hell yes I will return fire and kill or be killed, but if someone punches you, do you need to murder them? Everyone has their own definition of what warrants reaction. I have been fired at by people whilst running around, I chose to keep running. Some people would try to pinpoint said person, go track them, flank them and kill them. Each reaction is perfectly acceptable. So for me, I would have to say I am a good person, who can be driven to do evil things by the actions of other individuals (thought they would have to be extreme actions) -
This is by far and away an amazing post. If you want to soar in the skies with rail guns and nuke every person you see, go play CoD or BF4 (and not putting those games down as i own both and play both) but what DayZ is all about, is living off the minuscule amount of creature comforts left after the ravages of apocalypse. When I want to run and gun and have 600 rounds of ammo and shoot guys with a high powered sniper rifle, I go play the other games. When I want the intense heart pounding thrill a minute game where you never know "what will step out from behind that house" I play DayZ. I think honstly, there needs to be fewer military based items and more civilian types.. shotties, hunting rifles, and survivalist gear (ropes, flares, climbing gear, etc..) I would agree completely with a heli or two (civilian only) or perhaps a crop duster plane etc.. but nothing with any armaments. There is already more than enough killing power in the game, what we need now is more creative ways to stay alive and counter all the "gear whores"

That is friggin hilarious! Those are the kinds of interactions I like. Would have been hilarious to watch from afar :)
-
If you want to have a social aspect, then don't KoS the people you see... be SOCIABLE!! Last I checked I can't stick my head out the window of my house and talk to someone 5 km away in another town.. People who KoS do so because they want to, not because they need to. Nothing you will do will remove the KoS factor.. some people are assholes, always have been, always will be.

I think that is the most important sentence you typed. When I first started DayZ I couldn't find much loot (didn't know about server restarts etc) and as such I was all about "getting gear" but now that I have played a few hundred hours and I know some optimal spots to gear up, I don't give a rats ass about the gear, I am all about meeting other players and having the interactions. Do I get killed a few times while trying to open dialogue, hell yes, but the few times it has worked out I have grouped up with a few players and had some really good times. Hell I have let my 16 yr old daughter run with my character just so I could watch her reaction the first time she saw a zombie, or hear one groan at her. She almost shit her pants... god that was awesome! I think all in all, people need to stop looking at this as a FPS, yes you can shoot people, do you NEED to??
-
Beans to you sir! I feel the same way. No disrespect to the OP, but I often do log out in the AF, its fun to spawn back in and have people not realize you are in the room right next to them lol... I am currently sitting on the roof awaiting spawn for tonight.. lets see what I can get up to ;)

Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.42.116002

Thanks for the response, I was having a hell of a time connecting etc, so may have been an issue on my end only, hence why I didn't want to start a bug report if it is not a systemic issue -

So I decided I was going to run around in the experimental this weekend and enjoy some of the new perks they are implementing, but I noticed that the server times were static, I played several hours over the course of the weekend and the one server in Dallas I noticed was locked at 10:40 for server time the entire weekend, and several others appeared to follow suit, no movement in time on the server browser. On top of that, the in game times did not reflect the server times, spawning on a server with a time of 9:45 and it is pitch black. Just wondering if anyone else encountered this over the weekend. I did not notice a bug report, and I want to see if anyone else noticed this or not before I go and start one
