As a freshie i don't generally go on the attack on geared up guys. I tend to do more roleplay and as a civilian in a zombie warzone I imagine my character would be a little timid towards guys decked out in military gear with "machine guns" pointed at him and just try to talk his way through the encounter... of course if sh!t hit the fan then fight or flight kicks in and I make my death worthwhile ;) Sorry to get off topic, but I agree that the way the flashlight works definitely needs tweaking (more spread on the beam) but as mentioned, until the gamma level slider is locked server side it matters not as you will have guys on full gamma running around like it is daytime :)

Use your PTT and ASK a freshie for a battery. I had two geared up guys spot me coming out of a house and they ran up I thought "Damn.. dead meat" and they said, "hey.. got a batery we can have??" I dropped it and they said thanks and went on their way. There is a reason we have the ability to talk in game lol...

Honestly, for me it isn't about always being kitted up and having gear so honestly, when I feel I have played enough for the night I just walk into the first building I see, go to the highest point and log out. If i die, I die... no worries, I can be kitted again in less than 30 minutes in 99% of the time. I find the most fun I have is when I am a freshie and running around without a care in the world :)

Agreed... you can see the rain falling, you can hear the rain falling.. do you need to be told you are wet?? I know common sense is so rare it is a super power, but I think its fair to assume if you don't have a roof over your head and there is rain falling you = wet :)

Wish more of the players had that vision while playing. I always come up with an idea for my character when I spawn and try to get a little roleplay in.. adds a little fun! My last character was a farmer, running around with a pitchfork. He didn't last long but it was sure fun :) You have my beans!

Lets hope it gets all the COD kiddies leaving the community. I have nothing against COD or BF (as I own and play both) but this is a completely different realm of gaming, and one that typical FPS/DM/Spray and Pray gamers seem to not grasp (or care about) The potential this game has is exponential, if we can get it to a place where you don't have to fear a motorcycle wearing guy in his undies and you can open a dialogue without fear of being gang raped for saying "Hello" there is so much potential for good interactive gaming.

Broken record time... Zombies (glitching through walls, Carl Lewising and catching me as I run, agro from 500m away while I am behind them but not agro when I walk up and punch in the head from the front, etc....)

Too many people just seem to be against long periods of night. having variable adjustments for people who choose to play 24/7 day or 6 hour day 6 hours night etc is ok, but do not remove the option of a 24 hour day in there. I love having a long 2-3 hour session in the night, people who do not go for a tour in the night are completely missing out on the best part of the game (well depending on if you are a pVp or if you are a survivalist I guess) as it truly adds a whole new dynamic to the game to be out in the night, rain falling with a shovel and a flashlight as your only means of survival!

Just want to get a collection of the "WTF did I just do" moments from you all. I have been deeply engrossed in work for a month, and have had 0 hours of playtime. I was sitting on my first Sunday off in a month and fired up DayZ.... heart was pounding, excitement building.... got onto my first server and remembered I was quite near the shipwreck when I last logged off. So I headed off to the ship to see if I could find some gear as I was just carrying a can of spaghetti and a hammer. So I get to the ship and make my way up to the upper decks, and browse around the wheelhouse and the rooms near by. I manage to locate a pitchfork (which is a big upgrade over my hammer) and I pick it up. As I go to walk out of the room a guy comes around the corner decked out in full military gear and brandishing an M4.I had my mic muted and I was like "Damn!!! I need to let him know I am friendly... I then recall.. "Hey I can put up a hand and show I am a nice guy and all is well" I reach over and promptly hit the "1" key..... BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM!!!! Followed by "Try to stab me motherf@#$@!!!" I slip my headphones off, set them down on the desk and just shake my head. ARGH!!!!! Felt like such a dumbass lol.. one of my coworkers plays as well and I told him the story the next morning and I have never seen him laugh quite so hard before. So lets here your biggest or best "WTF was I doing!!!" moments :)

I managed to have to respawn this weekend for the first time in almost a month, and I have to say it actually feels more like a survival game with the changes. I spawned near Kamy and oddly enough about 100ft from a Zed and I turned to run and noticed the bastard was GAINING on me... so I turned, faced, one punched and ran like hell lol. As I ran up the road to book it to a clear area I turned when I heard the groaning and there were 4 of them on my tail, one gaining and 3 stumbling. the one gaining actually leapt at me and got a hit in. So needless to say, I was very happy to get an weapon in the first house I went into. Freshies now actually have to be smart when they are walking around with only a flashlight in their hands. Better make the next patch let you bonk Zeds with your flashlight!

In which case you should pull the magazine and look :) I think that is the way it needs to be. When you find a gun the first thing you are going to do is open the breach and see if it is loaded. If it is then you would pull the magazine and see if there are any rounds in it.

Most important lesson you can learn right there. You can give a shaved ape a copy of the game and he can loot up.. that is not the point of the game, to be the "loot whore of Omaha" as many of the kiddies in game think.

Last night as I strolled into Elektro as a freshie, I heard a guy do the typical western movie whistle thing when there is gonna be a throwdown. I never saw him, but I did see two bodies lying in the street beside the building I was in.

Was on last night and had the same list as Caboose. No issues finding space to play :)

Yup... Always a weapon in the school/office building. Always my first stop on a fresh spawn, and considering everyone avoids Elektro cause its a death trap, the place is always a ghost town. Finally saw my first player in Elektro last night after 150+ hrs...

Agreed... No matter where you go, there are always douchebags. I have only been "offed" once in experimental thus far, and 3 or 4 times in regular but its all based on who you run into. I would say jump into the experimental if you want to enjoy the new features, but don't expect it to be all rosey and see groups of people holding hands skipping through the streets of Elektro ;) I agree 100% with Caboose (who posted the same time as me) that the harder it is to get gear, the less asshats there are (which is why playing experimental on hardcore seems the way to go)

And here comes one that will be both laughed at and gasped at.... 150 hours of game play.... 0 kills. I have died 3 times, 2 times from being shot and one from being axed, have only used around 20 rounds of ammo (all on Zeds)

*hands you a flame proof suit and ducks.. While you may not intend for your post to say it, you are basically saying you are a server hopping gear whore... not looked upon here as a good thing.

Hmmm.. how to put little zombies on the screen while you play solitaire and make it so when you clear a card you get a gun.... *runs of to learn coding SolitaireZ.... yeehaw!! ;)

As I have mentioned in many other threads: People are assholes, always have been, always will be. Add anonymity and they get "big brass ball syndrome" and act like they are a god. That being said, if you want to be a "gear whore" this is the wrong game for you..

Well, at least you know you have a good marksman to cover you if the situation arises :) Just make sure he knows what you are wearing, and if you change gear inside a house you let him know you did. Classic DayZ mistake my buddy made. Ran into a house, dropped his blue backpack for a green one, dropped his blue jeans for some tacticals and walked out, his group he was with opened up on him. Funniest sh*t ever!

Printed this off and got it laminated. Now I will never get lost again ;)
