You are not the only one that plays on that server buddy. If you cannot find food in multiple places, it might be a clear sign that someone has already been there. An even easier way of ensuring you do not waste time, is by looking what doors are open / are not. The chance you will find food in a building is much higher if the door is not open (99% of the time. Some buildings have fence / door open by default).

When using pristine scopes, I have no issues. The condition of the LRS has an effect on the location of the shot. IMO, the damage to the LRS should be both visible, (cracked lens), and invisible (not centered).

That's what I am thinking too. I suppose they are making their way up the coast, and will eventually, get into the heart of the map. We shall see. -
