It would be an interesting experiment if the DEVS could give us a few servers 1pp and 3pp where NO GUNS were available. The only weapons being crafted bow/arrow and melee weapons. Yes we could try this on private hives and you could try to do this on public servers but in the end you would have some people sneaking in a gun and just laughing. I believe the interactions of the players could give better insight into how to make the survival aspect of the game more than survive long enough to get a gun. I know a lot of people would be upset if there were no guns but on the other hand a few servers with just the option for no guns would make a change. Seeing groups of people fighting each other medieval style would be interesting :) Albert Einstein: “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” I am a hermit and have only killed 2 people in over 2000+ hours of game time. Most of the time I avoid people because of past experience. I carry a mosin scope and am a walking bush purely so I can avoid people - I have killed hundreds of zombies/infected and animals in this time. My longest shot so far on a zombie is 945m and the 2nd person I killed was another sniper at 855m after he shot one of my friends. 1st kill was after a friend was shot in the back by a fresh spawn with a gun. Give people guns and they turn ugly. When I dont have a gun I am nervous, after I get a gun I consider others as being a greater threat as they may kill me and use my gun to KOS others. I dont want my efforts to get gear used as a means to make other people miserable.

A fracture may not show up on the User Interface - make a splint and use it and see if the invisible fracture is fixed - it happens a lot

I practice shooting at 1200m so sub 800 is not that hard.

persistent servers not being persistent
JohnDMarshall replied to irl-calibre's topic in General Discussion
Some servers cannot support the persistence and will eventually crash or become locked so you have to start again however there are some servers that do restart but it can take up to 2hrs to get running again - GOOD LUCK -
It's something server side - i dont think the Battleye is communicating properly - i have also had similar problems with servers that are overloaded

Check your screen resolution as the menu shown in your screenshot looks offset to the left. You should be running a screen resolution of 100% and check your text settings they may be the problem.

TCP UDP etc. ports for bypass to get serverlist to load faster.

I think you will find that Steam is responsible for the server list and therefore that should be your next enquiry. -
How do i find the server i was just on?
JohnDMarshall replied to aurora420's topic in New Player Discussion
You have a choice of how to find out. 1 open the file labelled C:\Users\{YourName}\Documents\DayZ\{yourname}.DayZProfile and find the line > lastMPServerName=" the name will be here " 2 create a simple DOS batch file ( this has been mentioned before ) I dont recall where I got this from so I cannot give credit. Copy this to a new text file and rename it DayZHistory.bat - dont forget to save the file before renaming it. @echo offsetlocalset FileName=%HOMEDRIVE%\%HOMEPATH%\Documents\DayZ\%USERNAME%.DayZProfileset FileTime="-":loopfor %%X in (%FileName%) do ( if %FileTime% NEQ "%%~tX" ( type %FileName% | find "lastMPServer" ) set FileTime="%%~tX")rem wait 5 seconds before checking againTIMEOUT /T 5 >nul 2>nulgoto :loopRun this after you get off the server will show where you were ( it looks in the file mentioned in option 1 ) Just double click the file DayZHistory.bat - i have it on my desktop so i can find it quickly You can leave it running but for peace of mind close the DOS box after you find what you need. One last thing - clicking PLAY in the start menu for DAYZ should put you back on the same server you were on if the server is running. -
I had an RAT 7 mouse - not the exact same thing but it really bugged out and started crashing my computer - I thought it was the video drivers or a virus - only after I got fed up and tried every possible thing did I finally find out the mouse and the software were killing the PC and the games etc. I now run with a G700 and I have no problems at all.

Options to identify a body (Hide playername when checking pulse on Hardcore)
JohnDMarshall replied to kll4's topic in Suggestions
In real life some people would have some form of identification on them - dog tags - drivers licence etc. If your checking their pulse then surely you will check their identification tags etc so knowing who the person is wouldnt be detrimental to the game. Would it really matter - this is a simulation of a situation that is based on fiction with some realism thrown in. -
Screenshot helps

Find a server thats early morning about 7-8 am - look at sun and run towards it - sunrise and sunset are roughly SE - SW so navigation is very similar to real life. This is why the game is interesting for me - you have to really navigate your way around using maps, a compass, and/or stars. Oh and when it rains it generally falls from the west and slants eastward. Clouds flow from the SW towards the NE ( i have noticed they sometimes look like they are going in different directions). Sorry to hear you are not enjoying the game - I believe you need to get some determination to fight back against the overwhelming odds the game throws at you and say "I wont be beaten by this" because without these challenges it becomes way too easy and would not be as much fun.

It would seem you have run off of the created map into an area that has not been populated with foliage etc. It's like a buffer zone - i often go out into that area but before doing so I take a compass reading on the sun and check to see which edge I ran off from. Find a server that is set at 11am or so and the sun should be roughly South of you. If you know where the North Star is then you can use that to determine which direction you are running in. The clouds move towards the NE of the map. Rain falls from the West. The catch is if there is no reference point then you could be anywhere West or North of the main populated map. You can take as many bearing as you like but without an object near you then you wont be able to fix your location correctly. Suggestion would be to run South East.

My DayZ is all cartoony, grainy, and pixelated looking

This may help performance GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1; SWLayersCount=64; explanation> I think you may find that GPU_MaxFramesAhead is way too high and is causing some degradation of your video. Changing the values to 1 for both GPU settings will help and your FPS will probably be better if you lowered the detail level of the clouds as well. SWLayersCount= Cloud detail level 0, 32, 48, 64, 96, 128 Remember to always make a copy of your files before editing them and it may be preferable to use Notepad++ from http://notepad-plus-plus.org/ (it is free and works wonderfully for other files as well). After editing your files you may find it advantageous to make them Read Only so the game client doesnt alter them. You can change settings while playing but these changes you make ingame will not be saved so that when you restart the game the settings are RESET to the Read Only file you have edited. Effectively with Read Only config files you can mess about with the settings ingame and everything will be back the way it was as per the file you have edited when you restart the game. -
After 3 days on experimental I stopped going to Police Stations as the new guns aren't there and nor did I find any magazine/clips for them. I abandoned the crossbow as I haven't seen any quivers for over 2 weeks. I made an improvised bow after spending 8hrs looking for some rope and then threw it away as I have never found any arrows. I made an improvised fishing rod/pole and threw it away as I have never seen or found a fishing hook. The only new things I have found or done are as follows - met the new kind of zombie multiple times - seen new scenery and buildings - finally made an improvised leather backpack with rope boar hide and sticks - found a PSO akm scope and left it where it was as i didnt have a gun to fit it to - never found any apples but have seen and picked edible berries - seen deer cows pigs and 1 rabbit but never found any goats or chickens. What do we test if we never find any of the things they want us to test and if we do find them after being murdered or hunted by other players we have to spend another few days trying to find the accessories that are needed to make some of these things work. Maybe the devs could at least on experimental provide more spawns for all the items so we can all have a go and test/try out the items they spent hours creating and coding into the game.....
