Do you leave your morality at the door?

-----> I'm real new to DayZ SA... about 12 days... (I keep repeating myself. lol) I haven't killed anyone yet. I will if I'm threatened but would rather be friendly if possible. The zombie apocalypse is a harsh environment, so surviving is Number One. That's understood. I dislike that some folks have nothing to do but stalk and kill bambis, but I understand there's not much to do at this point in the game once you're geared up. The first day I played I was stalked near the coast and summarily shot without a word. It didn't help that I had bad lag and couldn't react. I didn't mind because in a way it taught me a valuable lesson. I know who did it but have no plans to find him at some point and exact revenge--a slippery slope, that sort of thinking. The hunting and killing of fresh spawns will probably change once things like more zombies and the ability to create palisades, etc, becomes an option. I am disturbed by the torture games that happen and hope that behavior doesn't leak into RL for some of the more mentally unstable players. I've seen Frankie handcuff folks and force feed them but he did it in a very funny way and didn't execute people afterwards. I prefer to keep my sense of morality and feel there's a definite emotional and/or karmic consequence with that sort of in-game sociopathic behavior. I'm sure some folks reading this post will laugh at what I just said but there you go... Sorta proves my point. :P Being a bandit is not a bad thing per se. For example, I watched a YouTube clip where these guys had a room in Electro stashed full of food and extra backpacks. I imagine they must have a sizable clan and guard that room in shifts. I know there's a big difference bewteen running a bandit toon and running a serial killer. This is a great game and I've seen some clever and creative responses as to how to approach it. That's the real potential that DayZ offers. PS What Odysseus said up there is absolutely spot on. Bandit presence adds a real sense of anxiety to the game. A Hero can't be a Hero without them.

Placing a rifle to your backpack?

I have an M4 on my back, an FNX45 and a Magnum in my pack. With thirty .45 rounds & about a dozen .357 rounds. Plus a worn fire ax. I feel invincible. I'm less than 2 weeks old... So my dilemma is I can't decide if I should swap out the M4 (I have something like 120 rounds for it) for a Mosin. Zero .762 rounds atm. A long range weapon would be nice and I can use the 45 for zombies (Oh! for a suppressor) and the mag for hostile humans. Thoughts on M4 vs Mosin?

    An odd story

I keyword searched "glitch" and looked through a mess of threads but I couldn't find anywhere else to post the following. The Report Bugs thread didn't seem the place as I'm sure this isn't the only case of the "Ship of Glitchy Death" (in fact, I know it's not) nor did the death by sea thread seem to be the right spot... as my experiences were not soley watery. So bear with me adims & mods if you have to move this post. Ten days ago--by my second day of play--I felt relatively successful as a noob by the time I found the broken-up ship near the east coast. I was set to wend my way north on to new adventures when I decided to head back inside to the stairs only to see my avvy get teleported through the sea-side wall, through the railing and sent plummeting into the sea to my death. The second time I made it to this ship of horrors I decided to log out whilst (stupidly) standing on an upper deck only to find myself spawned later into a locked room below that deck. The strange thing about this void-space was that the room had textures; it was as if the coders created the room but forgot to place a working door there. Earlier, I'd found myself zapped below the floor of a house and that space was a proper wireframe and, somehow, was able to wriggle free of that trap. Luckily, before I died of starvation (I had no weapon or poison and couldn't just respawn), I checked online and found several comments about this. I was able to escape this hellish room by spamming the V key and leaping through a wall with pipes near the floor. I think that was an east wall. This world is out to get us. :P
  4. Dear Sir: I'm assuming by your mention of books and life (emphasis on living it) that you are offering the companionship of decent folk. I choose to believe that this is not a trap devised by a ruthless bandit clan warlord. ;) In short, if you are a cultured and gentle folk, I would be happy to consider you all as friends. Or, at least, trade partners. On the other hand, if you are indeed evil, would you please leave a note on the top deck of the "Ship of glitchy death" specifying your exact location so that--at some point in the future--I can show up and exact vengance. Thank you, tarascon

    DayZ is peaceful

Greetings all! I have been playing the standalone for about 10 days now. Never played the mod. My ingame name is not the name by which you all can call me to dinner on these threads. A clue: my (current) name is a variant of Temporary Autonomous Zone. :D After perishing in a variety of ignoble ways, I determined to go the way of the loner and have been on a quest to aide Morgan Freeman A) staying alive and/or B) helping him return to Hollywood. I have had no luck in this endevour... which is a real pity because I heard that Frankie goes to Hollywood. I must ask myself Why not Mr. Freeman? At any rate, after this abject failure on my part, I determined to head northwards and have been surviving quite nicely in some woods (at an undetermined location). I'm sure you will all understand if I choose not to disclose my current whereabouts. But rest easy if you stumble across me; I am resolved to "high five" first and shoot only if I feel endangered. I am well geared after numerous solo stealth raids on an airfield and, thus far, have not fired as much as a single bullet. At the moment, I am naturally inclined to protect all "bambis" and will react punitively towards bandits. I hope that the undead apocalypse will not turn me to banditry in the future for if I do then I have given up all claims on my humanity.
