What part of the 'life cycle' do you enjoy most?
tarascon replied to -MadTommy's topic in General Discussion
You're such a Darwinist. -
Too true. Unless you're desperate--which fresh spawns are--I would avoid that damn ship until the bugs are fixed. It's a shame 'cuz, after the construction site, the ship's a good spot to find some decent stuff. Not to mention some of the houses... but until it happens to a player, it's hard to tell which houses are glitched.

Do you leave your morality at the door?
tarascon replied to tamingatche91's topic in General Discussion
I think you're right about that. I'd like to trust anyone who says they're friendly but I've seen a lot of betrayals on some of the game uploads on YouTube. Btw, check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKujZ55zvzk&list=UUy5OkG7_WR07nbgkDLDXZYQ&feature=c4-overview See? Ultimate betrayal. :D PS. I'm not that sensitive or paranoid but I just want to add that, in case the above posts are remotely referring to what I posted about RL vs virtual behavior, I have no problem at all with KOS against geared players. I do have issues with in-game torturing; too much of that happens in our world today. And I think it's valid to point out that some RL players may well be disturbed individuals.* Just wanted to add this proviso. :) *Of course, no one on this forum is disturbed. It's the Other folks who aren't social enough to join a forum. LOL. -
^ He-he. Thanks for the head's up.

My Days so far in the apocalypse (INTENSE STORY)
tarascon replied to Stattified's topic in New Player Discussion
Sweet! You gave them a much needed DayZ lesson. -
Stats would be handy. Like seeing that you've killed 3 people in combat and 6,000 bambis. Might make you reconsider your behavior. :D

@ the OP: You've posted over a thousand times here and am surprised that you have to ask. And you know you want .556 rounds, right? I'm not being critical, just curious because I'm very new to DayZ SA and have found three 40 stack M4 mags in total at the NE airfield. :) If you're up for the run, the NE airfield seems relatively safe compared to Bilota or the NW airfield. It's quite a haul getting there from down south but I think that makes it a less likely place for snipers, etc, to be--the bloodlust is higher and easier to fulfill down south.

Hello to all above. *waves* If any one's curious about my enigmatic quote here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporary_Autonomous_Zone I think the name works because my current toon is temporary (he will die), he's autonomous, and he's in the zone (or just plain zoned). Stay safe out there.

^ That would be nice.

I know better than to get attached to my stuff. But I've been waiting 5 days (near an airfield) for a RL friend to make their way to me so I can [try] to cover him while he loots. He's five days old in DayZ SA and can't figure out the map... It would be a shame if I broke an ankle until he finds me.

I like the early mid-point where I have potables in my pack, a fire ax, and some sort of ranged weapon with some ammo. I've been playing the SA for less than two weeks and haven't fired off a shot yet but it's good to know I can if I need to. I've never killed anything but zombies so far, and frankly, unreasonably, I'd like to keep it that way. I know, I know... I'm in denial. Atm, I managed to get fully geared and look like a bandit (I aim to play as a good guy) and am not sure what to do next--so I just live in a deer stand. ;) Please come visit me. And bring some books. I'll make dinner. -
HA! I like it.
-
I kind of like the random zombie squeaks, ammo loads, and can opening or cereal-munching sounds. It makes me hyper-anxious and alert. Still, OP, I feel your pain. :)

I have a katana in State of Decay. I'll sell it to you. ;) Btw, your English is fine. Stay safe out there!

How many times have you died? I think that with time you'll get desensitized to getting killed and just treat it as a learning experience. I'm a very new player (less than two weeks) and have died many times... sometimes by a stalker (Frak You, stalker!!), sometimes a pack of undead, broken legs, starvation... glitch deaths, you name it. Here's how I approach the death-thing. Every time I learned something new. Good loot locations, the layout of the map, moving my beleaguered toon through time & space, etc. Of course, currently, I'm so well geared that I've gotten attached to my shit and am terrified of dieing. Not by another player but by something dumb like falling three feet off a ladder. But I'm working on it. :D

That happened to me once only so far. Luckily I'd read online what to do in such a case. If a geared avvy spawns as a fresh toon, do nothing--do not tap Enter, do not move. Once you do that, the game is saved and you are screwed. Just Esc and get to another server. That should reset you to where you last logged out. It worked for me.

I look forward to the time when the game would spawn us back in the same position as we left, i.e., I head for pine cover and go prone before I log out and I'd like to reappear prone when I spawn. On one or two of the DayZ SA walkthrough clips, I've seen players get killed during their spawn-in time, which really sucks. Is there also a 30 second count during spawn-time? If so, that's gotta change. Life in Chenarus is dangerous enough.

Thanks for the feedback. You're right about the Mosin sucking for close quarter combat and, rather than equip my Magnum (if I had a Mosin), my M4 would work well for close and middle distance firing... but, at the risk of being so wordy that no one will read this post, let me describe why I asked. Also, from the online reading I've done it seems that .762 rounds are fairly rare spawns and I'm buffed out with M4 ammo.. Right now I'm a loner survivor in the game because I haven't made any long-term friends. I'm a good sniper but, alas, I'm not the designated sniper for anyone. So sad. :( I just like the idea of being geared for all possible situations. I was thinking, let's say, in terms of approaching a place like Electro or any town infested with snipers on my own. I could just leave--that would be the sensible thing to do. And, atm, whenever I do hear someone shooting in my direction (snap!!) I leave the area because I'm still rusty with the counter-intuitive, multiple keyboard commands and dread the fact that I won't be quick or dexterous enough to react in time.* And, yes, I've made the mistake of being attached to my gear so I don't want to die because I forgot to raise my arms. lol But let's say I'm starving and absolutely have to get into such a town. Unless I can stealth my way and get some cover, I'd have no way to deal with a long range shooter. I'm thinking (with my current avvy) that I have a Magnum for any close range foe (plus my fire-ax and .45 if circumstances arise) and, in theory, having a Mosin would allow me to cover all situations. Of course, this scenario is artificial and is based on one particular case; right now, I favor keeping the M4. Which raises the question ('cuz I'm such a DayZ noob that I pee green): how is the SKS compared to a M4 for longer ranges? I had one and tossed it when I found the M4 because I understand it's a superior weapon. * This is where being a long time gamer can have its disadvantages in DayZ--my impulse is to react with an ingrained FPS keyboard command routine.

Check this out. Though the clips are mostly from the DayZ Mod, he makes some great observations about the SA version and getting the most out of the game as opposed to just going for the throat. That's around 3 minutes into the clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCRPDD5R-UU -
I agree with the OP. Some more physical evidence of the apocalypse would be another nice anxiety tweak and probably result in my having a heart attack. Some of the game sound glitches help do that too. Nothing like being in the middle of nowhere and having a zombie shriek about an inch from my headphones. The first time the new spawn-in sound gave me the load-weapon sound, I almost crapped my trousers. Seems like right now, most of the dead are fresh spawning on the coast.

In the short time I've played I've been shot and killed twice by stalkers and have met two friendly players. My last friend broke "her" legs on a three foot fall. I had nothing to help her with and was too stupid to mercy kill them as they asked. After giving her some food and sodas I left. That was during my 2nd ever log on... Afterwards, I realized that I only doomed her to a lingering death. David's if you're reading this, I'm sorry. Sometimes when I'm a fresh spawn and have nothing to lose, I like to zombie-bait. Get their aggro and play tag. This game usually ends badly for me. I guess the undead are not interested in being friendly. -
