Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.42.116002
tarascon replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Yep, I'm getting more lag, desync and rubber-banding lately. Not complaining, just saying... -
I stick to exploring and surviving when not helping clan members. Sometimes, I Zombie-Bait and play tag with them just to mix it up.

Squeaking , noisy doors that click and thud.......
tarascon replied to zonn44's topic in Suggestions
I like your idea about door sounds but the piano...? I'm walking past the "piano house" when suddenly I hear music playing. I freak out and run. A musically inclined survivor jamming on the keys and attracting murderers and/or the undead? Or maybe it's Zombie Liberace having some fun? Gotta pass on that. :D But keep the ideas coming. Off-topic a little. I'd like to see pedometers that are clipped on our pants (no space taken in inventory) as a means to keep track of distance traveled. Footsteps can be converted into mileage. Very handy if you don't know the actual distance (as per the DayZ DB map) between Point A and Point B on the map. You can use the map for estimated distance by clicking from one town and another and getting a meter distance but that doesn't help much back in the "real" world of Chenarus. I'm still new enough in-game that sometimes I overshoot my target. -
At least panting is a sign that you're still among the living. Seriously, I think the Effects config might tone it down. I'm not sure, but perhaps Health determines the amount of windedness also; I have a hydrated, healthy, energized toon and am not burdened by a lot of panting. Also (as you indicated in your OP), running everywhere should be avoided...

I'll get some grief for saying this, but the game attracts a lot of youngsters who've never had RL interaction with women. I think you've had the bad luck to meet some of the more immature players. This is not a blanket accusation towards all young men...

These points may be redundant as I haven't read through the entire thread yet... > I wouldn't mind rain inside certain, decrepit buildings--suggesting buildings with damaged roofs. > Speaking of vaulting. Will we be able to climb, jump onto low structures... like sheds, for instance? (This for purposes of escaping from zombie attacks in case players have to tend to immediate health-related concerns.) -
Crap. Try logging out completely before going onto another server.

Primarily, this game is about survival. Sometimes, to survive, other survivors must die. The bambis are no threat down on the coast... give 'em a chance, I say. Later, when they're geared is a different story. Depends on what they choose to do with their bad selves. I personally have not yet killed anyone (I have about a month in-game) but I can see the logic of needing to do so. In DayZ morality becomes a gray area. Don't rant at KOSers (they make Chenarus interesting to say the least) and don't rant at people who'll choose to remain non-KOSers. The world of DayZ is situational.

You can change the numbers using Notepad in your DayZ file. I mention this just in case you don't know. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H8zxnUzPO0

^ I beg to differ on that. Seems like some folks take themselves out of the survivor equation. They should never have tried to take uninspiredon. :)

^^ @ Sauron (I mean, Jexter). Not at the moment. My current guy's been kicking it for about two weeks. After traveling around a lot (and paying the price with my life), I've mostly stayed near The NE Airfield because a RL pal joined the game about 9 days ago and I want to help him while he loots. Cover the door(s), etc. It's stressful because he's slow and pokey... takes him about 10 minutes to check the loot per building. I can't seem to light a fire under his ass. LOL. It took him about three days of play (maybe 10 hours) to live long enough to find the airfield. He has a lousy sense of direction. The first time he made it to Berezino and somehow ended up back at the ship on the coast. He's asked me to stay put but he's hardly played in the last four days. I've made solo forays into the airfield about 5 times now and am so ready to move on. I think he needs to go solo and get real about his casual play style; I'm not doing him any favors by continuing to protect him. On another thread, I made similar comments about theradbrad and the Noble Brothers and here I am doing the same thing.

NE Airfield. Late afternoon. The birds have settled down, I imagine crickets krik-krik-krikking. My belly is satisfied, my thirst quenched, I'm energized and healthy. It's a good day in Chenarus to go hiking. And, as always, it's a good day to die. In the month I've been in Chenarus, I died many times--in many ways. Some sad, some funny, and a couple times by glitches. I have not killed a human being yet. I wanna be the Savior of the Wasteland. At the moment, there is exactly one other player on my server. I wonder where and wish him/her well. This is my fourth solo loot of the airfield. I have something like 130 rounds for my M4, full canteen, food, a pistol, a Magnum, a morphine injector, etc... in fact I'm as well-geared as I have ever been. That can't last long. My survivor's greed kicks in like a monkey on my back. It claws at my ears and yells at me: Get a compass, Fool! You need a scope, you idiot! And I agree. So, there I am heading down the stairs from the ACT and I round the corner a bit sloppily on account I seem to be on my ownsome and, Lo and Behold!, there's a survivor about to head upstairs. This one seems to have nothing but a motorcycle helmet and a splitting axe. We pause and look at each other in shock. This was before I had a mic so I type "friendly" and the other person raises a hand in greeting. I try to do the same but instead of F1 I hit 1 (my quickslot for my axe). Oops. Stranger backs away and I can imagine the horror and confusion as they think they've met a disingenuous killer. I type "oops" and he/she types "lol" but I can tell they're on alert. I type: I'm outta here. The place is yours. I run past them and he/she backs off to the wall. I leave and run back to my outpost to the north of the airfield. Later, I think Man, you coulda offered then some food or your spare FNX pistol. I was so used to running solo that the idea of teaming up didn't even occur to me. Remorse kicks in and I commit suicide (not).

Natural selection in action.

First, hello to all the new folks since I arrived. I'm pretty new myself. About a month. Mics are almost essential survival gear; in my experience, a lot of players won't wait around long enough to read your text--they'd just as soon shoot you or run away. Something to consider... :)
-
I haven't killed anyone yet. I stay in my deer stand, read Crime and Punishment and eat beans. Real men read (and fart).

Ich war auf Servern ein paar Male mit nur einer anderer gewesen, und wir geraten in einander. So when I'm on an almost empty server, I act like I'm on a full one. Pays to be paranoid.
-
Monkfish pretty well covered what I was thinking. Definitely, keep the in-game play list available to see if friends are in the same server--not everyone has TS. [edit] I mean, a "P" function which shows Friends only. I'll just add that, somehow, it might be nice for brand new players (say, for their first one or two log-ins) to have access to the server pop. That way they can learn the game mechanics and explore the map a little bit before they have to deal with KOSers or densely populated servers.

The Berezino Bugler had this ad in it yesterday: Survivor looking for zombie chauffeur. Must have at least 10 years experience as a living person and be less than three weeks dead. Uniform optional.

Apparently, this short series by Dolce & Battlefield 4 suggests that Dean put an Easter egg in DayZ. They discuss the possibility in one of the episodes--I forget which one. At first, I thought they'd just done a fine job of crafting a story for us. Here's Episode 1 of 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBwkWclVU-8

what is the best approach for entering small towns?
tarascon replied to mrfus's topic in New Player Discussion
Caution is always good. Particularly regarding other human beings--the KOS crowd is the biggest threat. If you're sure the town is empty of bandits and other survivors, I'd move cautiously but perhaps not prone as the super-vigilant-long-distance-runner undead will get aggro regardless of how you approach. And you don't want to be caught on your belly. The way the game is atm, stealth is best employed when humans are presumed present. Another tip: if you get charged by an undead thing, try to fight it outside rather than inside a house. Less chance of glitches... -
I'm new here and I don't intend to spam you good folks with a bunch of new topics but I did want to add this. If any of you know who theradbrad is, you might find this interesting and hilarious. He's been uploading his DayZ SA experience and I think he hasn't got a clue about the game because he's got two bodyguards who're babysitting him. I like him but, from the get-go, he's been coddled and is not really getting the point of the game. That said, a bunch of folks are out to get him. I found out yesterday that someone's opened a Bitcoin account offering a bounty to whomever can find him and capture/torture/kill his avatar. He found out that he can change his name (which he did) but he's such a spazz that, in the last upload, he tapped "P" and showed the online name list of the three players on (they were in a server with 3/40). Then he comments on his buddy's in-game names. I paused the clip and could see what he calls himself now. Dumb. Like I said, I like the guy and watch his other walkthroughs, but he should be KOS. If only so he can find out how hard surviving can & should be. My question: Should theradbrad be assassinated?
