Eh? If i do legit logout i can be shot?
-
How long will items I have placed persist?
brazorf replied to SlickShoes's topic in New Player Discussion
That's interesting Where did you find this info? And, above all, how often server restarts? -
What is Vsync about?
-
Uhm just tried the suggestion in that pinned topic (general forum i believe) to get a better fps, it seems slightly improved things. Then, i saw i probably lowered too much mouse sensitivity and set it up little higher. Let's see what happen next.
-
Amen. Ok for "hundreds" of them, but absolutely not before they get their behaviours fixed

Well i don't think my skill is slow, i Know it is, ive shot a single bullet against a wall, just to get some understanding of aiming/shooting mechanics. But this is just a part of it, i feel very uncomfortable with character commands, everything's responding late/bad/weird. If it's not just me then it's ok, i'm just trying to understand if ive misconfigured something or if my GPU is not that good anymore.

I've got dayz standalone from steam. I can't connect right now and i am little confused about how to determine if steam is up or down. It seems UP here: http://store.steampowered.com/stats/ It's down here: http://www.issteamdown.com/ Where do you guys check for steam server status? EDIT: damn i picked the wrong board and i dont know how to fix this :(

Is it me, unlucky coincidence, or the sun is stuck in the south-west forever? Each time i login it stay there and i've never seen the night.
-
Well actually im not sure, i just pick the one with lowest ping. But mostly i just hit "play" and let the game choose one for me. I'll try to be more specific: let alone for day/night, have you guys ever seen the sun in a different spot than SW?
-
ehm ok about servers time, 1:1 ratio between in game sun cycles and real life cycles, ive had bad (or good) luck about night. But ive played 40 hours now, and ive never seen the sun in a different spot than SW.
-
Agreed. Day and night activities should not be the same thing There's a poll somewhere in suggestion forum about day cycles / RL cycles ratio

I suggest to add shopping bags that we can fold and store in our inventory in one slot. Then, we can unfold them and gain extra slots (i.e. 5-10), at cost of keeping our hands busy while carrying full bags. Imagine this: backpack full, but you find something you really don't want to let there. So you unfold your bag, fill it with some items, and walk around hand-busy till you gain free slots again. Should you be spotted and need to react, you simply drop the bag on the ground, or start running away.

lol well, give it the right size (4-5 items) to avoid that, or even better if items had their own weight value

Maybe i'm doing something wrong, anyway i just found my first compass and this is how i'm using it: - i stay in 1st person view - equip in hand - combat mode to force hands up - i watch at the compass Assuming i'm using it the right way, this would be the suggestion: couldn't that damn compass just be somehow facing the camera!? It's so much inclined that i can barely see the north arrow. This is how i see compass (stock image from google search) http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/TbIu_ISQ3Ew/maxresdefault.jpg Image is hi-res and seems perfect, however in my case - i am forced to lower most of video settings to get an acceptable fps - my damn compass thingy is kinda ruined => i am getting blind, and lost.
-
Just a little addon. I found a brand-new pristine compass and i must say things are going better. I still believe we can have a better view of it, anyway it is at least usable when pristine. To understand what i was saying... try a 'badly damaged' compass and let me know ;)

I agree with kroms001. I'm from Italy, i will use an earthquake we had in L'Aquila 5 years ago as an example, where something near 100k people lost anything they had before. After the event, there certainly were people pillaging and abusing all around. Let's say 100, 500, or even 1000 ok? Government lacked of support, but there were plenty of non-profit or volunteer people bringing there food, blankets, and various stuff. The vast majority of people tend to group and help each other when it comes to hard times. Coming back in the topic, yeah this is a game, but i also feel that free shooting each other may soon become boring. There is already a lot of fps games, with a better gameplay or action mechanics than dayz... what makes this game special is not gettin a rifle/campering/shooting for a bean can. I think 2 major things would be needed 1) random shooters will and must exists, they're part of the game, but random shooting should have consequences. A silly example coming up to my mind is to inhibit them, for a certain time, to interact with other players (i.e. trade items). There are better solutions for sure. 2) someone said wise words before me, people group mostly for a common cause, and i can't see many common causes in game. It could eventually be something related to bases/houses, requiring more players to get them safe.

You got a point here, flashlight should be one handed. (I just found an head-flashlight thingy btw eheh)
-
I suggest that map should be opened in charachter's hands, so i can look at it and take a look around to make sure nobody is coming to kill me. I've seen some screenshot around (far cry 2 style) but i guess that was not taken in dayz standalone

thank you mate, i am able to google on my own :) here im just suggesting a feature

I've seen topics about shoes and footsteps, but i would like to go deeper in this. I suggest every item you are equipped with should contribute to the clatter you are doing while moving. We're full geared guys in there, with backpacks, axes, guns, bottles, etc., so it would be impossible to walk totally quiet, even on bare feet. So, you want to sneak around me and cut my throat? Ok, but you should store your noisy gear somewhere, wear silent shoes, and come to get me. Then, you go get your gear back, if it's still there. Letting things simple from a dev point of view, items should have a clatter attribute, and your factor would be the plain sum of your gear clattering. The higher, the noiser footsteps.

This way each time i logout i should pray my Gods. Why should i risk to lose my character when i do a legit logout?
-
My two cents on this. I think logout mode and timers should depend on the situation. Example: - you are alone inside a building / out of combat mode / not engaged: instant logout - you are in combat mode or engaged: 5 min timer - you are in the open space / out of combat mode / not engaged: 1 min - many more cases Main problem here is: does dayz implements the "engaged" concept? Or any attack is just a random hit/shot ? Eventually, this matter should be coupled with bases/houses/etc., giving players "safe" areas in which logout.

mmm i'll try to put it another way, given this approach to realism. Think about real world. I am lost, i don't know where to go, but hey, i found a compass! Since it's not working while placed vertically, i will keep it horizontal and at my nose level, so that i would not be able to see it, or maybe i would keep it horizontal but BELOW my head so that i can have a flat view?
-
I'm not sure, but im a 1 week old noob so i may be wrong. We are talking about 225km of map, are we? If you mean that after first part of the game one will just wander on and back from known locations, then you'd have a point, But i really believe (and hope) that's not all this game can offer and that exploration would play an important role here.
-
Well, i have another approach. I did NOT spoiler myself any map part, all i know about the game environment is based on what i find in game, and i just have a piece of map. After 1 week of play i still dont know where i am, and i like this, it's part of my way of thinking about survival :) Anyway, in this case i think we should come to some balance between reality and gameplay. I'm just saying that if there's a compass in the game, and it's supposed to be an useful item, players should be able to see where the damn arrow is pointing at.
