You know those times when you watch another player without their knowledge?
brazorf replied to Oyface's topic in General Discussion
Sadly, i'm so aware of this. I walk crouched in the bushes even when i'm on a 5ppl server and i'm in the deepest of the forest. Paranoia level went up when i met a guy at the NEAF in a server where only the pair of us was logged in :/. Bugged sound doesn't help us with this -
Just happened 2 times in a very short time. I got aggro, while inside a building, and a zombie was outside the door, with that annoying "meaow" sound. From time to time (somehow related to my movements i suppose), it seemed to issue these sounds: - the "tin-tin" you hear while you merge rounds in your inventory - recoil - open soda My concern was someone planning my death party, but i've checked out around and i'm pretty sure i was alone. Did you ever heard zeds make those sounds?
-
Uhm I was on a 25+ both times ive heard that

I now realize, after 100+ hours of game, that i always wear a motorbike helmet because i assumed it provides the better head protection. But damn, its ugly Does wearing hats or caps or whatever affects head vulnerability much? What's the best head protection in your experience?
-
Yeah i'm not arguing the reasons I'm just saying that ive spent about 4h finding a splint or a morphine stick that actually fixed my leg, to die minutes later. Should ive known that was no solution, i'd find my death in electro in a more funny way
-
Got painful legs again, applied splint, "You've fixed your fracture.". Good! Ten minutes later, "Your leg hurts. You are dead." Would be nice to have a sorta "official" hint about how to deal with this thing

First of all, sorry if duplicate or already discussed, please point me the right topic in case. I like the idea of persistent objects. Though, i was looking at it from a different perspective now, and i fear it could mine the game immersion. At the moment, the only thing that really makes you care for your character life is your gear: we have no skill system, no character evolution anyway, just the gear. Having your inventory backed-up somewhere in the woods may lead to take decisions you would never have made, having the risk of losing all. I'm starting to believe that this feature would drastically change the whole game concept. It is obvious that anyone would somehow enjoy this (me too), because it makes life more simple, but isn't this game about an hard survival experience? What if we're allowed to store clothes, ammo, guns and whatsoever? What you guys think about this?

I think there's a relevant difference between "base" storage, and backpack storage, therefore they should eventually be handled differently. Base storage should allow to stash items in static containers - fridges and the such, anyway containers you can not carry around. This kind of persistent objects should not disappear. Since it would probably be into a well-known place that you must defend. You and your clan die, then people can walk in and rob you. Backpack storage has the big difference that you can hide backpacks at the edges of the world, in places where people would not go frequently. So, since it's less prone to robbery, it should disappear because it may be exploited to an easy-regear trick. I'm not still sure about, anyway the 10min despawn is the better option ive read so far.

One shotted by zombie sucks, i hope you lagged and died from multiple hits

It is obvious that an item has its own binding with the character, when you do own that item. When you drop it im sure there's no information anymore about the previous owner. I'm not saying that this is not possible, though i think that it would be something to deal with carefully since it may spawn bugs or issues on any inventory behaviour. To explain better, i fear that the effort to bind dropped items to a character could be far too expensive when compared to higher priority features (people walking through walls for example).
-
i'v had it on a mosin. furthermore, try have a look inside the scope (if you have one), yo'll see a big mess there
-
I fear that first implementation will be very simple: some container (dunno which, assume backpacks, fridges, etc.) simply will not disappear, period. I'm pretty sure there's actually no binding between an item and its owner, therefore the "move to random spot" or "delete items after death" (both solution i like) can't be realized. So, retro19 wrote my very same concern, that a potentially survival feature would turn to be an extreme pvp one. Gear up quicker, care less about your life
-
Yeah that is actually a fact. I also know there are much topics on the argument already. I would only focus here on the immersion issue
-
My game style would involve a lot of binoculars use, as i like to plan my next move with caution. It is obvious that there are things more, much important than this, but i feel like binoculars implementation should not be that HARD. I mean, if implementing that would take 1unit, and fixing zeds would take 10units, i'd rather play with broken zeds but working binoculars asap. This is just an example. Like to have your opinions :) p.s. I know there are other topics on this. I'm interested in poll results.

Source?

I logged in, applied a splint => You've fixed your fracture. Seems like i got a fracture but i had not the red status indicator.
-
Nothing of the listed options. Someone (maybe Dean himself, can't remember) suggested cycles of about 19 hours. This way would make it more random, if you play the same time RL on different days you would get different in-game times.

Ive had painful legs yesterday (wasn't dead yet.. but i still have to login and check) and i fear it may have been a lag issue. I was inside a building, crouched. As other times happened, while performing actions in crouched position sometime casuses my char to fall through floors / walls. So, i was on 1st floor, and i tried drink a soda => i dropped outside, fearing for death - nothing happened. I ran away and i got lag warnings (yellow or red icons). Then, several minutes later (i was sitting inside a barn just doing nothing but organizing my inventory): "Your leg is painful.". I think that fall actually hurt my legs but i was notified with pretty much delay

Though these are all looong discussed things, i think you actually got a point here, about development priorities. I'm sure devs are well aware of this, anyway we're all here to talk and share opinions. I would really, really prefer to see 2 things fixed before new contents are added, as they could indirectly solve other issues. Anyway, those things MUST be fixed before beta release: environment collision and z detection. I am aware that they hire a full team to zs AI etc etc etc. What i'm saying is that AI alone won't be enough, till they can pass through walls and float inside floors. Having those fixed would make even the actual zs implementation playable, as you would be able to be stealth and use the environment as your offense and defense. I know roadmaps should take into account teasing features also (crossbows, fireplaces, cooking, etc.), for many reasons, but i really can't see how cooking - with no hunting enabled yet - should be a better addon than environment fixes. I'm using cooking just as an example here.

May actually happen that zs hits ruin your containers (backpacks, clothes, etc). I've just been hit by 2 of them, having my jacket and my backpack both ruined, with them any item inside. Inside my backpack, that yellow suitcase (the one with 6 inner slots), and everything contained in it were completely ruined. Does it really makes any sense? How are those bare-hands sloppy things be supposed to ruin a backpack, a solid container inside of it, and all of the items inside? Just to be most straightforward, i'm not talking about pvp hits (melee or shots), but just about zs. What i suggest, let the hits be as hard as you please on characters body but please find a better balancing about this thing. Furthermore, items should have different status-change ratio. Bare hands, for example, could break an apple, a water bottle, a soft item in genral, but should not be that hard on bullets, cans, and anything like that.

Can't see how the "alpha" argument fits here anyway, i'm not complaining, i'm suggesting Mostly, we give suggestions as we are in alpha and devs may appreciate opinions about directions to take

Today in the afternoon I was in a town, hotel 1st floor. I heard that zombie "meow" so pulled my axe - then I heard another sound, much more of a GROWL, much more scary and I stood and nearly shit my pants. It went on for several minutes. First time ever heard in 100+ hours. Afaik there was no updates, and my steam client didnt dl anything new. Wtf did I hear?
-
Search mode? I've only seen 3 behaviour modes when out of combat - standing still - wandering slowly, draggin a leg - just once, one of them was standing on place and acting something like a gorilla, like diggin the floor (didn't hear anything strange though). This seems the one you describe, isn't it?

1. Yeah 2. Ok but quite rare imo 3. Yeah 4. Ok new loot, but still im not sure with the idea of finding stuff between the trees 5. Yeah, but without turning dayz into some kind of Rust, i would keep it very simple My overall opinion, beyond details, is YES. Dayz is missing this feature, it would be awesome.
