Dayz downloaded a 18mb update yesterday, but i couldn't find any info. What it was about?

No, you're right, there's no need to do this - though it's the most optimized use of the food you find along the way. If you eat until you're stuffed, you're not wasting food while keeping your char at maximum levels. Just talking theoretically eh, not that wasting food *in game* is any kind of a problem. -- I'm sorry for using that word - fool - i didn't mean to be offensive by any means. I've never said i'm not carrying extra items and this is OT, i'm saying that i don't *need* to carry extra food and the recommended way of handling with it, is eat as much as you can. That i think could be improved, that's all. About the OT, well, i was used to carry extra items of any sort - this never saved my life, apart from extra splint for broken legs, and i still carry as many as i can. Extra items never saved me because i've only died because of kos, or zombie hit, thats the only way you can die as of today. Oh, well, you can also fall from roofs, but i doubt that an extra can of beans would help there. About your challenge, what sense does it make lol? You're right if you use to stay out of town for hours and hours, but then i challenge you not to get bored after 1h. This actually is the way i'd like to play dayz, but it's boring in the current developement stage.

I used to carry extra rations too, till i figured out it was meaningless. I always find soda and cans before my energy status become light green, so i began save space for other stuff. I don't like the "puninshing" too, i was just thinking about a better balance that would work fine without making the game a pain in the arse

One weird trick to avoid upcoming character wipe
brazorf replied to kakysas666's topic in General Discussion
I'd be glad if after the wipe you will crawl around and die hundreds time of starvation and hypothermia before you find 1/10 of the crap you're carrying around nowdays. -
I logged in some hour ago since some week. I found my 3rd person character without any equipment, nor clothes. On the first place i thought that could be some new kind of respawn, then i realized it wasn't. Possible account violation, or what else in your opinion / experience?
-
Thanks, upvoted that one

jesus christ. Did you read any word in this whole thread?

I think this could be what happened to me, my char was in undies with nothing else, near a pond. After respawn anything look fine again... i'm gonna open a bug.

I've been playing other games for couple of months. I took a pause because i was getting bored and i decided to play again when ive read about campfires, fishing, hunting, etc. I still love the game but unfortunately, if you are not here for pvp only, once you get satisfied with your gear you'll just end wandering without a goal. While waiting all these sexy features that BI is going to develop and release, i was thinking few changes that could improve a little the game experience, and they're, in my understanding, just a matter of configuration and balance. I came to this conclusion when i started to realize that i feel the most exciting stage of my game the very first, when my character really needs stuff to survive. After this stage (usually max 2h) i have enough gear to stay alive forever, in terms of food, water and weapons. I was thinking about - make food really rare, so that chance you starve are actually a threat, and so that food become the most valuable resource - remove any soda and drink can spawns as they restore water+food, and theres way too much of them - drastically reduce ammo spawns Effects i can think of - actually care for food and water you find along (nowdays, i often discard soda or food because i'm perpetually full hydrated and energized) - your main goal is always work to survive, searching for and storing supplies - for these who play as bandits, it provides a solid reason to rob people - for these who play as hero, it provides an actual help for new spawns (nowdays new spawns don't need your help) Im not even considering water (as i should) to minimize the amount of changes. About ammo, i think that's another kind of resource you have to struggle for. I always end carrying tons of bullets i'll never use. Thanks for reading ;)

Agreed, and i consider this as one of my most-wanted features right now
-
Well i can give you my point of view. Generally speaking, it should apply to certain in game items to make survival actually a game and a challenge. Would you enjoy a survival game with endless food and water supplies, or infinite ammo? I dont think so. However you would not enjoy having zero food and zero water neither. What's between these? Balance. Then, as stated in this topic title, i am talking about a temporary change that in my understanding does not require additional develop time and that should not necessarily stay in the long term. It can be changed and rebalanced again when new features are in. Again, you're suggesting long-term features here that will require time to get them released
-
Eh? Zs are there already, even if they're only stupid placeholders atm. What i am suggesting is something that does not require more development
-
On last login my character (energized, hydrated, healthy) started say "My head hurts" and "I think my nose is bleeding" During my last session i had no traumatic experiences. The only thing i can think about is that ive been drinking water from a pound. Bug or what else?
-
Well you got a point here. Anyway, with less canned food, we would be forced go hunting, fishing or getting fruits, therefore testing new stuff that most of people will probably ignore or try as a secondary aspect of the game. I think that a priority may also be balance between fun and testing: agreed that alpha means dev-testing, we should also worry that bored people could possibly quit the game (the testing), as i did in the past 2 months.
-
Ok then... 90% trolled :)
-
There will be. I am only talking about about this particular stage of alpha development, until we'll be given new stuff to do in game. It's just a patch to give the game a new temporary goal.

Charcoal tabs solved this. Water poisoning? Ive read something about salmonellosis in last changelog
-
eh come on devs, this guy needs ammo! Holy fuck.

Source?

I've read about this here and there, i'd like to get a better understanding of the matter. 1. Is it really that easy? I'm going killed => i logout => i'm safe (or a bloody walking dead anyway lol)!? 2. Is there any solution implemented to prevent people doing this? 3. Is there anything in next releases roadmap? 4. Finally, how many of you guys do combat log? :)

I mean, does it make any sense crouched walking? Is there an actual difference between a. walk/run b. run while crouched c. walk while crouched ?

A fresh spawn running up to you deserves to be shot.

You know those times when you watch another player without their knowledge?
brazorf replied to Oyface's topic in General Discussion
Dunno, are you french? If so you pretended not to speak english that night - which saved your or his life though ;) -
I started to play dayz very close to the moment they disabled night, so i was very excited with this patch and accelerated time, and having night back. So i logged in yesterday and my first impression was amazing, because it adds so much to realism, immersion, thrill and whatever. Above all, it adds in a new PvE challenge - make it through the night - where pve is quite poor at the moment. So, my overall feeling, is really good. Everybody knows anyway that improvements are needed to the lighting but that's not all imo. Here's a short list of things i would like to see. 1. Watches. Add in watches we could rely to when planning the next move 2. Outlines. I'd keep night time very dark, with no gamma or brightness hacks allowed. Anyway, some rendering improvement is needed as we should be able to see the outline of objects in a reasonable radius (2m to 5m) - making possible to walk around without light sources. It should be hard, but in this moment its not possible at all and thats no good, as i may want to be outside in night time without being a ridiculous easy target. 3. Fix light sources as we already know 4. Street lamps. I would add few (very few) random street lamp that switches between stable light to flashing light. To give my idea of "very few" i think in an area the size of Berezino there should be max 2 of them. I wouldn't really care the "world is over there's no electric energy" point, in-game explanations are possible, and it would add something to the game. First, when down street in the darkness i could be able to have a clue of what's in a bigger range than my sight would allow. Then, one could be able to random spot movements. 5. Think of tasks one could do during the night. I think in a survival game the "make it through the night" element should be so important, but actually there's really nothing we can do and i've seen servers go empty while night was coming. We should have reasons to find a safe spot - setup camp - setup light/fire. I'm just brainstorming now, but the only thing i can think of is using that time to perform required and slow tasks. Here's a little list of them - Cooking. Cans and ready to use food should be RARE, and most of food should be cooked (you can eat raw, causing diseases or digestion disorders). So, night time would be the moment when to setup your camp and eat. - Cold weather. We should feel the urge to stay inside with heating sources, because temperature should fall down a lot. Again, you have choice: go outside with a random risk of getting sick, or stay inside and wait for the sun. I would like to see sleeping bags too, we should use to warm up. - Repair items and/or cleanup weapons. This should not be a one-click operation and should require player interacion. Keeping items clean may improve their longevity, or just raise up their status from damaged to worn or something like that. - Dry wet clothes. Still related to cold management, we should be able to dry clothes in order to avoid sickness. 6. I think the inventory view should be affected by darkness too. My point here is to brainstorm these aspects if you guys share my vision, as i'm aware that some suggestion could be flawed or dangerous to the gameplay.
