If it is anything like melee weapons such as the machete, I have a feeling you are 99.9% right.
-
The Machete that looks like a kitchen knife in DayZ - acts exactly like a kitchen knife. Good luck killing zombies with them. As a weapon, it needs a complete overhaul. If the machete gets a head shot; it should be one shot one kill just like the fire axe. It shouldn't take 12-15 hits to kill a zombie with.

I know what you mean; we have all been there - but how many truly awesome stories do you have that dwarf that one?

Glad to hear it. :D

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
kroms001 replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
Perhaps facial expressions. Once someone starts to lose their humanity by killing other people and loot them (looting them should be a trigger also) or just killing people for fun - most people get bad vibes from stone cold killers IRL - why not in game? Why not change the facial expressions to something a little more wicked? If you help people out, your facial expression becomes warm, calm and relaxed, but if you kill repeatedly - a sly smile, or grimace. Friendly players attacking people with "evil" looking faces would suffer no penalties because they are helping rid the land of bandits. The facial expression issue was brought up before, and I support it. This way, there are no arm bands or identifiers to be seen, and it would rely on a person looking at someones face in close quarters. One way to hide it would be to wear a mask etc. (both good/bad would want to hide their faces for various reasons). -
Actually I don't see OP being butthurt at all - I just see some fool trying to regulate posts and make snide comments. If you don't want to read it - keep moving, no need to be the DayZ forum police - that is what the mods are here for. Stop crying like a baby bro. ^just sounds like "WHAAAAaaaa! WHAAaaaaa!!" to most of the people reading it.

well, it is in alpha ;) - and that is what they are here for; programming an epic game. I would rather have quality content than a rushed product.

We came across a guy who we thought needed help, he had other plans. What happens when you try to ambush two players trying to help? Justice. I didn't have anything to lose running back into town and confronting him by myself since he killed my buddy. With the number of spawning zombies, and the amount of damage they are doing on the experimental servers - the KoS players are creating a world of hurt for themselves. To the guy who attacked us, thanks for the M4 ;)
-
I know - dude, my adrenaline was though the roof LOL. I have to work on that, I agree. I realize that he could have easily rushed in, but he did see the gun on my back (which had no ammo). So, he most likely didn't charge in right away because he thought I was ready for him. I knew that he would take his time because of that fact. 99.9% of the time, people don't go rushing into buildings if an "armed" person was inside. Would you? There are so many "what ifs" - but the only history is the outcome. He also could have shot me when I walked through the door. I made it, that KoS fool didn't.
-
If someone texts me they are mute that is fine, but you have to understand - every person that I have come in contact with that either uses text or will not talk to you attacks. If I am in range and I say "Friendly" and no one types back saying anything at all I keep a very close eye on them until they are gone. Unfortunately that is the way of this game. There is actually software that she can text to speech people with a mic if she wanted, and it is very affordable. Perhaps there is a plugin she could use for online gaming? Maybe secondary computer where she could type out a sentence and have her mic by the speaker? There are options. If someone isn't talking/texting me - and does the side to side friendly movement, I won't KoS but I will be very wary of them. 99.9% of encounters where people are not talking/communicating or even texting you lead to them trying to kill you.

In every aspect of history, humanity has always risen to fight together when it is in danger. DayZ Stand Alone is a great game, but there are a lot of aspects missing that need to be incorporated in my opinion. This is the zombie apocalypse, and it is also a game - but it doesn't reflect upon human nature enough. DZSA is in contrast to what would actually happen in such a horrific scenario. Sure, people would shoot each other, some out of spite, out of rage or whatever - but not to the extent that they do in DayZ. This needs to be fixed. Unfortunately DayZ reflects that most of humanity has become insane uncaring killers, like the Zeds we all face in the game. The Z apocalypse is about the trials and tribulations of humanity becoming primal and resorting to trying to survive a harsh environment without any of civilizations comforts... not becoming a mass murderer. I am sure this has been brought up before, but I just wanted to put my two cents in. There are a lot of us out there (even some KOS people) that are getting a little bored of just outright killing. Make the game interesting, make it where people want to keep their character and care for their character - but also make it where if people want to kill someone, they can do it - but just like in the real world there would be consequences. Right now, encountering real players is about the same as encountering a Zed. Sure, some people are playing nice - but you can't differentiate between a nice "civilized" player and a KOS bandit.

(Sociology) Rocket: DayZ is Fundamentally Flawed, and I Agree - Here is Why.
kroms001 posted a topic in General Discussion
I think I believe I know what Rocket (Dean Hall) meant when he sported the comment about the game being fundamentally flawed. Humans are creatures that survive in groups, we strive for companionship. Without it, we would be extinct. DayZ is reflecting the exact opposite of what would happen in such a dire circumstance. If a child is born and is only given food, but no affection and no attention - that child will die; it is a proven fact. Children need nurturing, and as we grow older - we need companionship and friends. As we pushed ourselves out of the forests and caves our ancestors survived in groups, and tribes. We as a species figured out how to cultivate crops and cities formed. All throughout human history we can see the example of humans surviving together, not apart. Sure, countries war but that isn't in large part of the people living within those warring countries but a select few "leaders" who choose that course for their people. Humanity, if faced with such an extinction level event would band together, horde resources and fight back against impending doom like we have never seen before. Sure, you would have your panicking masses and psychopathic deranged killers on the loose, but over all - the majority of the surviving people would reflect on what we have all done in the past: join together to fight against all odds. What Rocket has seen in the Mod, and in the Stand Alone versions of this game isn't humanity; but inhumanity. It reflects nothing about humanity, but the greed we suffer from today. In a post apocalyptic setting, the prize would be keeping humanity alive and finding a cure. Not shooting and killing anything you see that isn't "you" on site. Why? Because being alive would be a prize, and it would be respected amongst other survivors. Yes, it would happen - people would loot the hell out of everything; but it would be a hunter gatherer mentality and tribalism would be the norm. Yes, there would be "lone" survivors and even camps of bandits, warlords, stone cold killers; but 90% of the time there wouldn't be KoS unless absolutely needed. Remember; these are the last of the humans on the planet, zombies are eating people's faces - the only thing left is each other. I have noticed that most of the people who are my age (35-40) play as humanitarians. My question; why is the younger gaming generation so fixated on killing everything in sight? Sure, us experienced gamers that are older could do the same thing and wipe the map with people, camp out and kill new spawns - but I have found many of us don't. We actually are there to help people. So yes, this game is fundamentally flawed, as it goes against everything most humans would do: Help each other to survive.- 83 replies

Have you tried the experimental servers yet? The Z's are not a joke over there. You'll need a lot of bandages, and some good weapons if you can get to them without zombies running up on you. Even when you are a new spawn, the Z's are raging at you. I was happy to see that. Experimental is going in the right direction... just wish they would fix the Zombies clipping into buildings/fences etc. Literally there is no place to hide, and they chase you for what seems to be forever. -
US military does not blouse their boots. ;)
-
Golden rule, if they don't talk to you - shoot them. Always use your mic, never text chat - if they are text chatting you, be wary. The KoS players have everyone on edge... and I understand why you did what you did. We have all been in terrible situations.

*but make sure the game is closed when you do it

I LOL'd because ... it is the truth on so many different levels. All that crap they eat, all the high fructose corn syrupy goodness they ingest - just look at the autism levels, or even the ADD/ADHD levels and how high they have risen in just the past few years. Autism is just one circumstance with the chemical imbalances that exist. Growing up, I don't remember one school shooting, ever. I don't blame video games for these kids blowing half a school away, it is something deeper. I played my share of video games growing up, and never once did I ever think about harming another classmate with a gun. So yes, these kids are growing up on food that is causing a bad chemical reaction that their brains do not understand and their bodies are rejecting. Also more and more health related issues like childhood diabetes etc is happening at a much more rapid rate. -

You can add that you don't know the definition of "Sociology" for starters ;) -
whatever bro... tactics. I can hide a whole team in this thing; and if I get killed, right when the bandit is going to loot "BAM!" My whole team pops out of my backpack guns blazing.
-
Lets see... I can fit about 10 M4s in this and 5 axes with a shit ton of ammo, clothes and food.

Well, who is to say that the Americans didn't rush to help stop the Zombies from escaping that country? Sure there would be plenty of US weapons because the USA would obviously send troops to destroy a threat to it's existence. It would be very likely that people from all over the world would have rushed there to try and stop it. There should actually be more weapons from various countries in my opinion.

I am beginning to believe that some people are programmed to believe that if something bad happens: by default, humanity would erupt into some mindless orgy of death. These people keep trying to site history - yet in every instance in the history books we have never seen that happen. LoL "Know your history" yet, they don't. There was an apocalypse 70,000 years ago - in which only about 2,000 humans survived on this planet. Instead of killing each other in that "oh shit" moment, they had lots of babies and guess what? There are over 7 billion of us now. So those of you that are all "high and mighty" stating that something like the Z apocalypse never happened, sure it did - but much worse. 2,000 people fought for survival against the harsh elements of a super volcanic eruption. The eruption blotted out the sun for 6 years or more. So, not only were our ancestors fighting the elements, they were fighting predators and other animals for resources. "Tiny bands of early humans, forced apart by harsh environmental conditions, coming back from the brink to reunite and populate the world. Truly an epic drama, written in our DNA." via http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/3340777/Humans-almost-became-extinct-in-70000-BC.html -
