So I have been playing a bit of dayZ for some time and have come to the conclusion that we need a purpose. We also need to improve relations between people, and I propose a novel way of doing so, as well as some suggestions for giving the game some purpose. The suggestions I propose should be largely up to the server to turn on or off, as to not divert away from DayZ's core gameplay for the purists. Create the option to have random small groups, of up to 4 people. You spawn with these people somewhere on the map randomly, and they are your "squad" (using "group" channel for private chat.) The idea is that when you join a server, you have the option to randomly join a group, or go it alone. The group will be made up of people who have all made the choice to join a random group, and its up to you to all work together or go your separate ways. It is pot luck if you end up in a group with your friends, promoting a situation where strangers with no affiliations are in a position to work with someone else to survive. This could feed into the resource collection system by requiring some tasks to require two people from the same group to do, and the only way to acquire that particular resource, or the fastest way to get large amounts of it. Speaking of the resource system, I hope it evolves to include collection of complex recipes for resources to be harvested, processed, reprocessed, in order to achieve a particular ingredient or resource to manufacturer items. This was found in civil life / civil rpg mods as far back as OFP, and it provided a whole world of options for people to keep themselves busy with on the side, and promoted an environment conducive to co-operation amongst players. Also, would it be possible to implement a "safe zone" system? something simple which can be activated server side to allow a particular town or city to be a forced no-fire zone. (think survivor zone) This would allow players to meet and not be able to kill each other but maybe do some basic trading. What do you think?
