Sounds unnecessary. You can just scroll on the mouse and press F (default use action).

Add an option to equip a pistol/revolver and flashlight like this: It doesn't require two hand slots or anything like that. Just make it a static pose where you have the pistol in your hand you can "add the flashlight" to "hands" and it will show this pose. You should of course be able to raise or lower it.

What kind of food recipes do you want in DayZ
finnpalm replied to Pokerguy12's topic in General Discussion
I would like to add to this. When you're in harsh conditions where survival is an important aspect, you want to cook simple food, but you still want to cook it. The latter is because warm food requires less energy from the body because our bodies use energy to warm up things we consume and that goes both for food and water, and even air is warmed up. Fancy dishes with many ingredients are a product of comfort, and is not what you do in such a situation. You wake up in the morning, boil some water and either drink that or make tea or coffee or some similar warm drink, then use some of the water for making porridge or if you're short on water something else. For example just warming a can of beans before eating it makes a huge difference. Especially if you're in cold environments. Warming the body from the inside out is wonderful and a really good "pick me up". -

Indeed. There should be an option of how you cut/hack. Like for example pressing forward while attacking creates a vertical stroke, strafing left/right while attacking creates a sideways swing towards the left and right respectively and backing up while attacking creates an uppercut stroke. That way if you're in an enclosed space you can choose to do vertical or uppercut strokes, while outdoors or in larger rooms you have more freedom. You don't even have to turn the axe grip for sidestrokes, since the pike on the fire axe and the "hammer" on the splitting axe can do plenty of damage as well as the edge. Indeed. The pitchfork should have stabbing animations instead of whacking the zombies over the head. -

Did my reply sound impolite? If so, I'm sorry. I answered your question. Didn't mean to sound snarky. You don't have to "have twitter" to read tweets online. You don't have to check reddit daily, since the relevant post was linked above as I said. Yes, it would be nice if they posted here too. I think you're overreacting calling my reply a shitstorm. Although I do apologize if it came of as snarky. EDIT: Maybe the last part (that wasn't directed at you personally) was the problem. I can see how that was poorly formulated by me. -

This. Even though it's not a very effective zombie bashing weapon it carries with it an air of attitude. Please get this into the game. -
Do you think it is way too easy to upset someone in this game?

No, he managed to get out before me and my pal advanced around the rock. We weren't even planning to shoot him to be honest. Just see what he was up to, and make sure he didn't shoot us in the back. -

Oooo, Jagged Alliance 2 is one of my favourites. I have a rerelease by Medallion for later Win OS's, which include the only official expansion as well. Always keep coming back to that game. So good. Good point. Maybe if they had an update thread that was locked, where they post the updates, and a separate thread where we could discuss the updates? I think that might be better. Exactly. And they outlined why they had trouble getting it to stable on reddit, which has been linked above. They encountered severe problems that they've been working hard to solve, so that they can get the patch to stable. Would you say it's a good way of showing appreciation of their hard work by claiming they're not working hard enough? Just because we get used to something doesn't mean we're entitled to it, or can demand it. Sometimes stuff just don't work out. Be a little flexible and understanding, people. -

In my opinion the amount of emotion your toon dying stirs up is in direct relation to how much you try to keep it alive. For example if I am extremely careful, peeking around every corner, and so on, I will get more upset if I die. If I simply run around screaming, trying to punch everyone and everything I would probably not even be able to notice any emotion. Compare it to if you have a kitten. You feed it, cuddle it, potty train it, take funny pictures of it, cuddle it, feed it, and so on. You create bonds. You will be sad if/when it dies. If you instead have that same kitten, and the only way you interact with it includes measuring the time it takes before it hits the ground when you drop it from a ten story building, and measure the radius of the impact area with a measuring tape, before getting a new kitten.. I feel ya. Out of the last four encounters I've had, only the second spoke to me. The first was two people whom I initiated conversation with to figure out if they were friendly. They flanked around the house I was by and shot me dead without uttering a single word. The third was a dude that coincidentally logged in only a few meters from where I logged in. I said "Hey man" and he pointed his rifle at me, so I said "Chill out" and ran away. The fourth was a guy coming out of the woods and stumbling right into me and my pal, and when he started fumbling for his gun and hiding in a pine tree I said "don't move", at which time he logged. It's a tough crowd. -

I have friends in the video game industry (triple A titles), and from them I've gotten a basic understanding of it. And still it suffers from bad memory leaks. ;) -
So that's how it's done. I couldn't find it scrolling through the controls in the menu. Beans.

Me neither. If I'm told that there are unexpected bugs delaying the patch I think that is pretty self explanatory. And I agree that delays are best communicated to the community. However, I don't think shouting obscenities at them is a constructive way to get them to speak (not saying you did, but some do). Personally I expect them to make an announcement. But I expect them to do it when they're ready. Not when I am ready. Not when I demand it. I'm not surprised that they don't hang out here and sing Koum-bah-yah. If I was them I'd avoid this forum like the plague. And that's why you can get a Master in Communication. ;) -
Bob Munden is fantastic. Genetically different however? No. He just happens to be a dude who found something that he has a talent for and likes doing. So he's been doing it a lot, and is very good at it. He's got amazing eye-hand coordination, and it's not even sure that he's the best there can possibly be at what he does. There are plenty of people who never do anything with their talents. Make no mistake, I truly enjoy watching skilled people performing, and I've watched videos with Bob before. The problem is that such tv shows try to make something seem more supernatural than it is. It's like stage magic, and Bob is a true performer. What he does looks unreal, but it's pretty simple to explain. So apart from an amazing eye-hand coordination, an extremely high spatial intelligence, well trained reflexes and good eyesight, there is nothing special about Bob Munden. Although I would agree that those attributes I named are special in themselves. We as humans have a tendency to marvel at things we do not understand (and that video doesn't make any effort to make things seem less magical) and dismiss it as cheating or fake. Simply because we can't wrap our heads around something. Raise of hands, how many here have been accused of hacking while playing multiplayer games that you're good at, even though you didn't hack? Why is that? Because people view the world from their own perspective, and if they can't perform a feat it seems unreal at first. We need to take apart and understand it on a fundamental level to accept it as real. Enough of my ranting. Bob Munden is awesome, but not by being genetically different. Why are you quoting me if you're arguing against some point that I haven't brought up?

Well, maybe you two, who have experience in developing software, might be content with such a simple statement as "hang on, we're not quite done yet". But I guess the majority here wouldn't be. I'm guessing they wouldn't even be satisfied if the game was completed tomorrow and dropped off in their lap. They would probably find some reason to complain. And that's the kind of people community managers are aiming to take care of mostly. Those like yourself that nod your head and accept every tidbit of info you recieve are not the problem crowd. The people who goes "Hey, shitface! Speak ENGLISH ffs" are. And my guess is they're in the majority. Hopefully I'm wrong on that. -

A community manager could possibly be a good idea, seeing as how they created themselves a community of over a million players simply by releasing the game to the public. I have never argued otherwise. To be honest I'm not sure what our argument is about, because you seem to change standpoint from post to post. Or I'm just reading them wrong. I've never said I think they should not get a community manager nor have I said they should get one. I did say that a community manager is usually hired after a game goes live. EDIT: I think the conflict lies in game developers usually not needing a community manager until the game goes live, because that's when a community forms. In this case there is a community formed before the game has gone live, which might be a consequence they forgot to consider when they released the alpha to the public. EDIT2: I guess I read your comments wrong, Gugolas, and instinctively lumped you together with the "we're entitled to this and that" crowd. Yes, more info would be nice, but I can totally see why that isn't working out for them. And in that case they might need to hire a community manager. -

Hicks on twitter: "No update with todays maintenance, however - Our programming team has narrowed down the fix on the blocking bug." -
I don't think old people are necessarily slow. I said that people who train a certain sort of action or actions are better at performing those same actions that someone who doesn't train them. As is someone who is younger naturally better reflexively than someone 20 years older or more. Bob Munden is genetically different? I highly doubt that. He's just very skilled and a highly trained trick shooter. Nothing supernatural about that.

Nobody made you pay anything. You did it on your own accord, and against advice not to. Do you even know what sort of work a community manager does? They work with communications both ways. Currently this is done by the developers, and you're complaining that it's not satisfactory. Do you see the pattern? There's a huge difference between being good at writing code and and being good at explaining the problems you're encountering to a community of hundreds of thousand players. I highly doubt you'd be satisfied with a reply such as "this thing we're doing is difficult, it will take some time, we might not solve it for wednesday, we'll update you during maintenance". Such a message just spawns follow-up questions, and those few minutes it took them to write that grows into hours as they try to straighten everything out and answer a million players' questions. But I guess you and the others are too busy patting yourself on the back as if it was your nagging that squeezed the new update out of the developers. -
Maybe my point didn't get across. Someone used to playing FPS's can obviously counter the aging effects on their reflexes. Bob Munden is a trick shooter, who makes a livelihood on his skill. He trains regularly and therefor counters some of the effects of aging. My point with this was that if you're a good FPS-player you'll be favoured because you'll have been training. If you're a younger person with naturally better reflexes you'll be favoured. If you're neither of the two you're not favoured by such a system.

It might take a couple of minutes, but they're game developers. Not community managers. Community managers, people usually with a degree in communications or similar, are usually hired after a game goes live. Not during the development phase. -

Probably because it happens when you run against an object that blocks pathing, which results in the render of your character staying where it was "blocked" while on your screen you keep moving and interacting with the world, in turn creating the illusion that your rendered character is staying in the spot where it got blocked and keep perform all the animations following your actions, while you actually are somewhere else on the map. There was several videos showing this bug posted here on the forum. It's sort of like an astral journey. Your "body" stays in one place, while your spirit travels to another place. But you can still interact. They're not embarassing themselves. It's common practice to state a time and date as a goal that you try to achieve. It's not a promise in any way. It's like you say, their intention. I can't fathom how you do not comprehend this. It's pretty simple. Or, it could be that you actually understand it, but you're just here to troll. But to be honest I don't give two shits and a martini which it is, because you're time and again proving that you have nothing constructive to add to the discussion and although several people have tried to explain the situation to you, you just don't seem to listen, or try to understand and just keep spewing your rancid hate on them. If only you'd be mature enough about it to be constructive, maybe people would take you seriously. Again, it's not a promise. They haven't promised you anything. They have been so kind as to share their intended time of the update. They didn't manage to make that deadline. That you guys keep talking about the devs "lying" and "not holding true to their promise" reeks of a spoilt sense of entitlement. You're entitled to participate in an early access alpha product testing. Nothing more, nothing less. -

One of the fine things about DayZ is that it stirs up so many emotions in people. One strange thing about the community is that so many keep saying "I'm not emotional. I'm hard and tough and shit, and don't get upset or even remotely affected by dying in-game" even though being an emotionally shut off individual is bordering on psychopathic and not really something one would want to be. Take pride in your human emotions, but also admit to yourself that you sometimes act "in affect". Pressing down that VOIP-button or typing into direct chat while your emotions are still racing is a very human reaction. Some people doesn't let it stop there but rush to the forums to vent their anger and frustration. Later you will have calmed down and might even regret some of the things you said. All in all these are very human reactions, and signs that you're a healthy individual with a normal emotional life. Rather than people not reacting this way it would be sound if those who were exposed to such reactions were mature enough about it to simply dismiss it for what it is. You just killed someone's game character. They're upset, which is normal. Just ignore them, or if you really want to engage in conversation, maybe start of by saying something like "Sorry dude, you startled me" or "Sorry, but I need your stuff". In closing, whenever someone finishes their post with "lol" I never take them seriously. It's a power method and trying to laugh at people who doesn't share your opinion, or making fun of them and belittling them in that way is just really bad form.
