Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion

I'm all for realism, in every part of the game. And I am definately for the developers prioritizing what they do when and what they leave for later. Personally, as I said in a previous post I like the idea of having to decide if you're going to keep the worse gun that has a more commonly found caliber, or the better gun that might be hard to find ammo for. That has nothing to do with having tons of guns in the game. In my opinion there is already a lot of guns in the game. I'm not opposed to there being more guns, but if they decide to have more guns I would also like them to have more calibers to offset the abundance of gunfire in the game that would follow. Yes, you will most likely find a firearm. No, you might not be able to find ammo easily. On the account of dispersion in the game, we've had that discussion in a different thread, and I like the idea of having a gun firing where it's pointed, but instead put the difficulty of hitting the target into making it hard to point the gun where you want it. Again, realism. This has nothing to do with being a gun nut (I'm not). I want the procedure to aim and fire a gun to mimic reality as much as possible. Simulating the weight of the gun, increasing sway, having wind affect trajectory, injury or infection might make it hard to aim because your arms are weak or trembling and so on. This is what I would like to see. I don't mind if they decide to elaborate other parts of the game first, but I become worried by things like what Torchia said. Now, if he really meant that "we're not doing calibers now. We're saving that for later" then I'd be fine with that. But the way he phrased it is "we're not doing calibers, period". Then again, I said somewhat jokingly in a different thread that I'd like it if you packed your backpack sequentially, and that when you needed an item from the bottom of it you had to sit down and take out everything else first before reaching the desired item, spreading all your stuff out on the ground and then having to put everything back again. I wasn't really joking there. I think it would be awesome if you had to think of how you packed your stuff. "Oh crap, I need my pistol. Why did I put it at the bottom of my backpack" *rummage rummage pulling out socks and apples* The more realistic this game becomes the more difficult it will be. Some will argue that it will become unplayable. I disagree. It would be hard, but not impossible. But that's just my idea of fun. :)

    Picked unlimited ammo mag

I agree we can end the story there, yes. Don't encourage people to use hacked items in the game though. It's really not a good idea.

According to the lecturer of a seminar on memory that I went to last week it's later. I better cross check though. He may have been wrong although I doubt it (he's the coach of the national memory team).

    Picked unlimited ammo mag

How is it a personal attack to consider the fact that a difference in age might be the reason why we view this differently? If you took that as an attack I apologise. It certainly wasn't meant as such. To use the most effective method to complete a task within the intended scope of the game is perfectly fine. However unlimited ammo mags aren't intended to be in the game or Bohemia would have added them in themselves. Therefor they're not "within the intended scope" since they were introduced into the game through means that haven't been made available to you by Bohemia. Using your argument would make hacking a perfectly valid tactic in the game as well.

There's no blood boiling on my part at least. I'm just trying to understand how you can consider things ok that would be considered imoral by the vast majority.

I recently learned that the part of the brain that harbors common sense isn't developed until around the age of 25. Maybe that's the problem here.

Ok, I understand your viewpoint now. However an exploit is an exploit. It's like finding loop holes in the law to get away with doing things that would normally be considered illegal.

Ok, you better look up the word "literal" because it doesn't mean what I think you think it means. It's clearly not legal to hack in DayZ, I'm sure you agree on that. So why would it be morally right to use hacked items simply because Bohemia hasn't managed to get a fix in place yet that prevents it? And how do you suggest it alerts them to the problem by using the hacked items?

    You're not making sense.

But they apparently think it's wrong or they wouldn't be trying to fix it.

That's not what a "Strawman argument" means. But I digress. You're saying that in your opinion it's ok to use something that's illegally created because it isn't prevented in any way, and to do that to show the game developers that it's wrong and they need to get some sort of prevention in place? Am I understanding you correctly?

And how do you signal Bohemia that there is something in the game that needs fixing? Hint: It's the feedback tracker.

    Picked unlimited ammo mag

You do know that it still would belong to someone else, right? And that person would most likely want their car back? In this case Bohemia didn't intend for unlimited ammo mags to be in the game and wouldn't want them to be used either. Or you can simply report the situation on the feedback tracker and get rid of the mag. Do you think the government and society would look favorably on you doing obvious imoral things just because they aren't specifically prohibited by law?
  14. finnpalm

    Picked unlimited ammo mag

True. But would you use a stolen car if the law didn't prevent it?
  15. finnpalm

    Picked unlimited ammo mag

Um, good form? I'd say don't use them. No matter if they were picked off the body of a hacker, it's still cheating to use it imo. Do what Odin Lowe suggested and remove it from the game.

Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion

My thoughts is to have a true calibers for all weapons they put in the game is a good thing that will bring an extra dimension to game play. Will I keep this rifle that has a more commonly found caliber, or will I keep the other one that is cooler or better or whatever? I'd like that a lot.
  17. Well, a great variety of calibers might actually, as someone pointed out earlier in the thread, lead to people having to choose between a gun with a more commonly found caliber, or a better gun that uses ammo that is harder to find. I kinda like that idea. Get the poll up. ;)

Lets post some screen shots (Standalone)

Oh, I got it alright. It just wasn't my kind of humour. :)
  19. My take is that since the first tweak, when they stated that the new infected were a placeholder, and with recent announcements that they're tweaking melee, and what they have said about the meshes they're using to fix pathfinding I think it's gonna turn out fine eventually. They're well aware that it's somewhat problematic currently and they're working on balancing it. I'm convinced they will get it right eventually.
  20. Yeah, I know it's 15 x 15, but I was pretty sure that they didn't count the "sea grids into that" (not that it's that much sea on the map anyway). But ok, if you say so. Back on topic. :)
  21. I'm not sure that the sea part of the map is counted in that assessment. I do however know that, having traveled pretty much all of the map, you can play the game on all of it.
  22. 225 square kilometers to be exact.

    Change hand gestures

I would like to suggest a change for the hand gestures to have similar controls as other actions in the following way: - One press of the key and you do the gesture and then it reverts back to normal. - Two quick presses of the key and you "lock in" the gesture. For example the one-hand wave. Tap the key once and you raise your hand and then put it down again. Tap twice and you raise your hand and hold it there. Tap twice a second time to take your hand down again. Tap and hold to raise your hand and hold it up until you release the key at which point you put your hand down again. Thanks for your time.

    Change hand gestures

Well, we have that option for commands in DayZ. But for gestures it's not an option. To raise your hand and wave you press F1. Then to take your hand down again you have to press F1 again. Instead I want it to be press and hold to raise your hand, and when you release the key your toon take the hand down again. And as an option double tap the key without having to hold it to raise your hand and keep it up. And then double tap again to take it down, for the rare circumstances where you'd want to stand with your arm in the air for an extended time period. :)
  25. I'm sorry, but the developers have been pretty clear that they're not animated corpses. They're living humans infected with a virus similar to the movie "28 days later".
