Do you change your playstyle though? Or are you still cautious when playing on experimental?
-
Yes? I don't see how that conflicts with anything I said. :)I have that actual list open while playing on experimental, and use it like a checklist.
-
Agreed. Pvp needs to be tested too of course. But it's kind of hard to test everything else when you need to worry about getting shot all the time. :) And if testing is difficult less people will focus on actual testing, and I'm assuming the devs would want more people to help with the testing. Not less.

I don't know how loot works exactly now, but would it work to increase loot a lot on experimental, so that you don't have to run all over the map to find that farming hoe for example? Or the items needed for cooking? I mean, having to start over from zero and run around getting all the basics just to a couple of hours later maybe finding one item just doesn't feel fair. For example I get a message sometimes saying the game can't something something the farming hoe. So I run for ages trying to find one to see what that is about, but die from starvation and zombies before finding one. Or maybe if they slowed down hunger and thirst?
-
Good point. The more I think about it I can't figure out a way that would work. I was thinking maybe a blank map where are the relevant stuff was but then it's not tested in the full environment and so on. Still think people could give the "bullets talk" approach a rest on experimental. Maybe I was relaxing a bit too much because I thought people would be more focused on testing the new stuff rather than pvp. :) EDIT: I would love to see some statistics of how many of the players on experimental are actually looking actively for bugs, and how many that report a bug when they find one.

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

The concept of "full price title" is not what you think it is. Either way it doesn't matter. You're not having fun with the game. I am. Maybe we had different expectations when buying the game. I expected it to be a buggy, glitchy alpha. Not sure what you expected though. -

Well, I have already gotten back my €20 value, and I'm currently testing out the new stuff on experimental servers to help find bugs. I'm not one of those who expected a finished and polished game for less than a full price title after reading a hefty disclaimer and warning not to buy the game. Basically I think those who stay away from buying the game have a good excuse. I have friends who do that. Personally I chose to spend the (for me small) amount to test out the game and see what it was about. And I'm happy I did. -
Yeah, I'll stay away from the sexism debate here. I was just curious how you deal with it irl, in case there'd be a similar way that could work in-game. Hence the disclaimer that I didn't want you to get the wrong impression. It's an honest question, since I don't know any mute people. It's usually simpler to just ask, right? :)

I haven't slept in 2 days after this event. HELP!
finnpalm replied to mooky32's topic in General Discussion
I'm assuming you're trolling but here's the deal. Since people run around with live weapons in this game, it's a bad idea to startle them. So basically you reacted as would be expected if this would have been a real situation. Accidents happen, and the fresh spawn should've stayed out of sight when first talking to you. Go to sleep knowing that you have healthy human reactions. And I have to agree with the -

Yeah um.. no. He's not legging it with the money, because of all the money they recieve from the game sales most of it goes to BI and development. Also he's not leaving until at the earliest in 10 months. Finally, he never said it will never be the game we all wanted. He said it will never be the multiplayer experience he wanted to make. So, since you apparently lack fundamental reading comprehension I'm not expecting you to read this post and understand it. Just like you failed to read my previous post and understand that. Good luck in life. You're gonna need it. -
I don't want you to get the wrong impression here because I agree with you about inclusiveness. It's really behind in the video game world and most games made are still catering to straight, white males even though it's clear that they're not the only ones playing video games. But I have to ask, how would you go about approaching someone irl? I mean, not trying to hold them up, but just initiate conversation with someone? I follow the ongoing debate about sexism in video games closely, and I often see the question being asked "What are people so afraid of?" when it comes to change. The fact is that it's just that which scares them: Change. It's a natural psychological reaction in humans to avoid change because it symbolizes the unknown, whilst what exist now is known and comfortable. Hence there will always be people screaming and raging whenever someone is asking for change, no matter how irrational and dumb their pleas for conservativism is. That leads me to the next thing: Hate. Ignorance spawns hate. Simple as that. And I'm sure you can see the chain now: Change is asked for. Change is unknown. Lack of knowledge spawns hate. And there you have it. How to go about changing stuff without having large groups of scared people trying to fight the change then? Education. Fight the lack of knowledge and ignorance by informing and thus comforting the people who are scared. A good key here is focusing on what will not be changed, what will remain the same. "Yes, there will be a couple of changes, but this and that will not change." Anywho.. Missy, there are soundboards to be had. You shouldn't have to make one from scratch. And on the subject of soundboards in DayZ Standalone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WofiN2c_XQ

Not really, no. I'm sick and tired of obsolete "feeling sorry for the disabled" views and have a pretty strong opinion on the matter, so in case you disagree with my opinion it's probably just better to agree to disagree. I'd recommend you to read a little about "Crip-theory", although I doubt you'd take any recommendations from me.

[HOWTO] Test Experimenal Builds / Help the Dev´s to improve Quality
finnpalm replied to Sloddor's topic in General Discussion
I'm definitely looking into this next time I play. Thanks for the info. -
I think you missed my point. There is really no point in making special servers for deaf people since there are plenty of computer programs that aid deaf people. Voice-to-text overlays and such. The ideal is not to create a special millieu for people with a disability, because that results in segregation. And that's something I'd have a problem with.
-
Well, I don't think the game needs leveling. It's not like Missy can't play it just as good as anyone else. She just needs to play it slightly differently.
-
You should also use the pen and paper in game to write a note and leave in their inventory instead of the stolen item, saying "You have been robbed by the "Silent Survivor", or something like that.
-
Or you can become the mysterious silent survivor! Knock people out with a shot, bandage them, loot them and sneak away before they wake up. Let's hope they fix the suppressor bug soon. That would be so cool. The dampened "thud" from a suppressed .45, screen goes black. Then I wake up and my can opener is missing. Hell, you're welcome to rob me any time. :)
-
Here is an idea, Missy: Use a soundboard. Good luck, and don't give up on the game because you bumped into one asshole. :)

Are bushes currently bugged in the SA? Or am I just using them wrong? I'm assuming they block line of sight, but I'm having trouble losing even the common zombie by going behind a bush. For example, I run from a zombie, circle a copse of pine trees to break my line of movement and get in behind a bush, but the zombie zeroes in on me behind the bush as if it can still see me and stumbles right through the bush and attacks, and even if I try circling the bush to keep it between me and the z it will attack me from within the bush. Any explanation to this?
-
Ah, ok. Thanks for the replies. That makes sense.

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
finnpalm replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
That's because he didn't say that. He said it will never be the ultimate multiplayer experience he wanted to make. That doesn't mean that DayZ isn't the zombie game we were promised and that he wanted it to be. All those of you whining about how it's taking time to produce the game need to know about a basic game development principle: You have cost, time and quality. The formula looks as follows: If you make a game of high quality fast, it will be expensive. If you make a game for a low production cost fast it will be of low quality. If you make a high quality game for a low production cost it will take time. --------------------------- Let that sink in for a moment. -

You're probably right, but since people don't bother to read or educate themselves, but only come in here and spout cancerous hate it doesn't really serve a purpose other than letting those same people vent. And they can vent somewhere else for all I care. -

Is circlestrafing/zigzagging ever going to be fixed?
finnpalm replied to MagneticToast's topic in General Discussion
Actually go further. Video yourself living off of canned sardines and soda. Also keep track of how much you eat and how you feel after eating too little or too much. Try to compare how often you need to eat such a diet if you are to not get hungry. -
Is it too much to ask for smooth controls?
finnpalm replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
How about we all stop splitting hairs and agree that what we're talking about is firearms? Firearms are created with one sole purpose - to harm or kill other living beings. Some are made for hunting and designed keeping in mind that an animal should be brought down with as little suffering as possible. Others are made for hurting people, and are often designed to maim rather than kill, to keep the enemy paramedics busy trying to keep the victim alive, and as a result slowing down the enemy as a whole. Sure it can be discussed if a 7.62 round that easily punch through brick walls before blooming and starting to tumble are more likely to damage than kill, but that's a different discussion in my opinion. I feel somewhat responsible for this derail into the thread being about firearms, so can we perhaps drop that discussion, or take it elsewhere, and instead go back to talking about the controls?
