Oh fun - all geared up 12 hours ago, now naked. Fun.

Seriously, don't compare getting fucked in the ass to losing gear in a computer game. That's as dumb as when people compare getting killed in a computer game with rape. If you ask a rape victim what it was like getting raped, they sure as hell won't say "oh, a bit like playing halo". -
The truth about heroes, bandits, survivors, KOS, and friendlies.

I disagree. The game already keeps track of most of the data needed. It's not as complex as you would think. -
Just because something is lethal doesn't mean a person hit by it will drop dead in their tracks. It means that it can kill a person, even if that is from internal damage days after being hit.

I think he means irl. Imo morphine should allow you to walk on a broken leg, but not run. And once the morphine buzz is over you should fall to the ground again, possibly with more pain than before. A splint should allow you to walk but not run, or the splint will break and you fall to the ground. And healing a broken leg should involve splinting it and then rest. So basically, morphine will allow you a chance to find the items for the splint. The splint will give you a chance to get to a safe spot to rest, like finding a house and hiding in a room with a gun pointed at the door. After a while spent completely still the leg is healed. If you move during this time the healing is paused until you stay still again, in which case the healing continues.

"You might not die today, but you will die sometime during the next week." Just because something penetrates your body doesn't mean it instantly kills you. And there are other factors like what the bullet does once inside your body. Does it tumble or just go straight through? (the Mauser rifle does this, unless the bullet hits a rib or other bone) The damage by the .22 guns seem about right to me. But to be honest it needs more testing in game to have a solid foundation to base statistics off of. Say, a thousand fired rounds or so with each gun should suffice. Shooting a couple of rounds doesn't give enough data to base anything on.

Such a system can keep track of you being shot at from long distances as well. -

KoS is a playstyle. Combat logging is an exploit. They're not the same or even close to similar. To combat log is literally to decide to not play the game. You're logging out, ergo you are not in the game anymore. It's a forfeit. It's not impossible to create a system that keeps track of what the circumstances are when you log out. Similar systems exist in other games. A good example is the fully automated system that keeps track of team killers in World of Tanks. That system is never wrong, no matter what some blue-flagged TKers will try to tell you to defend their actions. A similar system that checks the circumstances when you log out and simply kill your character if you combat logged could potentially be implemented in DayZ. Food for thought. -
There is a term called "cabin fever" which refers to a state than can, occur after prolonged time in solitude and not only by staying in a cabin, unlike what Wikipedia states. The symptoms (although this is not considered a medical affliction) includes a paniclike need for social interaction and a claustrophobic feeling. This state is easily cured by meeting other people. A pop-culture example is the movie "The Shining", although they're taking it further, allowing the main character to go completely nuts even though he is with his wife and child, which would in reality postpone the effect to some extent.

A lot more women play games than people think. A recent study showed that about 50% of all gamers are women. So where are they? Many stick with single player games where they don't have to take all that sexist crap about going to the kitchen and making sandwiches, and those who have the guts to game online often don't give away their gender. My gf games to some extent and often people just won't believe her when she says she's a girl. I too wish things will change in the future. It's hard to find games for my bonus daughter (who's also a gamer) with characters she can identify with, that aren't stereotyped or rape victims.

The thing about .22 as I understand it (I'm no expert so I go by the word of others) is that the bullet generally don't pass through a person so are safer to use in crowded areas where you want to minimize collateral damage. Often used by bodyguards and other such professions if I'm not mistaken. -

I'd like to add that PvP doesn't have to include any gunfighting at all. Simply interacting with another player is PvP. Maybe you're trying to convince the other player to trade you a bandage for a can of beans. That's PvP. Maybe you're being threatened by the other player who wants to rob you, but you try to get out of it by telling them you don't have anything of worth, but that you can lead them to a spot where you saw something valuable that you didn't have room for in your inventory or whatever. That's PvP too. PvP is the complete and utter freedom of being able to interact with other players in any way you choose in a given situation. This is my opinion. I know the more popular opinion only includes actual fighting in it's description of PvP. I, however, prefer to broaden that definition a bit. -

So your character is about 720 hours old? Or do you count the time you're not playing as well? Personally I check in Steam how many hours I have played when I start a new life and then calculate hours from there. -

About 50 hours before I logged into the middle of a firefight and got killed. -
Great idea. Even better if the name of the item changes so that doing a mouse over shows for example "A+ bloodbag" so you don't have to inspect it.

I thought it would be fun to see how we would all fare if a zombie apocalypse was real. I'll start by making a template that you can copy-paste if you want and fill out, or just make your own. Physical condition: I'm 35 years old and fairly well kept. I like working out although I'm not in as good a shape today that I would like to be. I'm 6'4" (196 cm) tall and weigh about 200+ lbs (100+ kg) which makes me somewhat slower when running, but able to carry a lot more without slowing down. My hearing is perfect measured down to sounds at 0 to 5 decibel, although my sight is slightly low on my left eye, and I have had some problems with an eye-infection. My skeleton is thicker than average and I have never broken a bone in my body, even from high falls, although my mobility is a bit higher than average too which might instead result in dislocated joints. Mental stability: I have a fairly high stress tolerance, although I tend to get tunnel vision when my threshold is passed. I tend to not flinch in hardships such as having to push myself physically under lack of food (because I've had it rough during periods of my life), although lack of water quickly lowers my mental capacity and ability to think effectively. I do hesitate a second or two too long before using violence against another living being, even when it comes to self defense, which is probably a disadvantage. No idea how I would react to a zombie though. Hopefully I'd gleefully kill it, fingers crossed. :) Teamwork or lonewolf: I like being alone, but I'm also a social type. My ability to work in a team is by default fairly average, although I can push that limit to some extent if there's a need for it. I do enjoy being on my own though, which might prove disadvantageous. Useful skills and training: I'm comfortable outdoors and know my ways around having been in the scouts when I was a kid and a soldier currently. Apart from the weapon- and survival training that comes from that I have some emergency medical training being a trained firefighter and I also have some basic knowledge about combat lifesaving and the tools they use (I'm not a trained CLS though). Talents: I'm a pretty cerebral person and like to think up strategies. I also like to get into other peoples' heads and figure out how they think, which might come in handy. Despite my size I'm fairly agile and have a tendency to move around unnoticed to my gf's annoyance as she's scared shitless every time I am not where she expected me to be, or I come up and tap her on the shoulder without having made any noise. However my size and looks often makes people start on the defensive, which isn't always helping relations when meeting strangers. Gear: I own my fair share of camping utensils and dried food, water bottles and camping stove. I have a hand axe and knives, sewing tools and such and several backpacks. Plenty of clothes to keep me warm and dry as well. Rating: On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate my chances of surviving in a zombie apocalypse a 7.

Honestly though, don't you when watching a zombie movie always go "god dammit, don't go there!" and "oh ffs, look forward when driving" and keep thinking how you would have done it better? Isn't it funny how one of the biggest pop cultural themes in our world, that zombies are, is completely abscent in movies? Like walking up to a person that's eating another person in the street, saying "Are you ok?" Basically I think people would get their shit together a lot faster than in movies. But the movies are obviously not aiming to be realistic in terms of catastroph handling so that's moot.

Being able to grab the top of a ledge, like the high walls around sound houses, and pull yourself up and over would be nice.
