Stuck in the settings as described for my i5 and gtx560 combo and it does appear a lot smoother :). I think it'll do until I double up the ram, swap in an i7 and a gtx970 ;) K.

Plus heard (didn't see though) my first vehicle as I sat in the fire station in electro at night, couldn't see any lights so couldn't track down the location. I'd spent an hour or so lugging fuel cans (before being killed) whilst trying to find a truck to fuel up..... :). K.

One guy took a swing at me, bringing fists to a sledgehammer fight. He lost. One guy brought a bat to my shotgun fight, won and left me bleeding after knocking me out and nicking my backpack full of medical gear. Then, a totally clean bambi slapped me in the face as I shot at her, knocked me out and left me for the Zeds.... Have fun with that shotgun, I'm coming to get it back :). Mind you, electro is really friendly if you are a new spawn (immediately ran into some guys who wished me all the best and it's a great place to loot at night. Loads of guns and gear :). Just another day in days.. :). K.

I changed the screen resolution to see if I could boost the frame rate and it left me with naught but a hideously blurry screen, even though my dude was showing healthy, stuffed, energised, hydrated etc..... So glad I remembered about the post-processing option. It gives me a headache playing with all the fuzziness..... K.

Disconnects / Character Reset Consistently

Just got this myself after raiding nwaf and getting decent fear. That's two days of play up the shitter.... :( -
Whats your favorite location on the map?
krebsy replied to TheMaxedout's topic in General Discussion
Novy and storey sabor are my two favourite places to visit when gearing up as they are pretty central plus give easy access to good areas nearby and loot. K. -
I was running about for two hours as a fresh spawn post reset with nowt but the basic starter gear, my t-shirt in rags in my small backpack and a wooly bobble hat on my head. It kept complaining about the cold but I survived quite happily whilst hunting for warm clothing. Was just out in the middle of nowhere in a torrential rainstorm last night and camped down by some trees in the rain and got a fire going. Even with the rain pouring down I quickly went from cold and soaking to just damp... K.

Prior to the reset I had a.22 pistol and about 200 rounds in my pockets. It was a great gun for sneaking about towns and dropping zeds, plus also to keep some defences up incase I ran into an unfriendly. I'd gotten fed up constantly swapping between the moisin and the axe when in an urban area. Any time I spotted a zed I'd get around behind it and double tap it in the head. With having at least one spare clip on me at all times I could blast away at any zeds that charged me and quickly slap in the spare in case of any threats. It's all about how you use the gun and you can 2.5x more.22 ammo than 7.62.... K.

Axe, coat and a bag of some sorts is my top three. Something to drop the zeds with and all those extra pockets and inventory slots. Mind you, I'm running around carrying 5 different guns at the moment so I need all that extra space :). K.

Logged in for the first time in a few weeks, walked into a two storey house in novy sabor and heard "bang, bang, bang.....".

How about soiling the bolts or arrows so that you need antibiotics to avoid long term sickness if hit by one? Good old English archer tactic in the middle ages. Stick them in the ground so you can quickly re-notch and also so you introduce dirt into the wound, causing additional bleeding and festering.... K.

Swapping from win 7 to 8 then 8.1 seemed to bring about performance increases. Mind you, my machine now starts up from cold to login in under 20 seconds. For me, windows 8 seems to have a much smaller performance footprint than 7 did. Also, I swapped the motherboard, processor and memory all in one go and I expected win 8 to throw a strop. It simply went "meh..." And carried on as normal... DayZ runs fine, so does any other game I run..

The sobors and zelenogorsk are my go to places for loot and generally the best places to get stocked up with decent loot without too much risk. Yes, if people want to hang around on the coast then so be it, but anyone with a view to survive should run west to the hills as fast as they can :)

Currently locked doors (rooms not hollowed out), question.
krebsy replied to franzuu's topic in General Discussion
I did run across a house which must be a new template as it had no internal doors and pristinely clean empty rooms inside. Thin it was a single storey pale yellow coloured one..... -
Zombies should be attracted by all the gunfire and have a shorter visual range, then use herding/flocking ai algorithms to dictate their movement. If you run past a zed it will turn to follow you, then others may follow it or it may veer off if it hears another noise or sees other movement (player or zed). We should be able to herd them around but sooner or later the pack will be too big to manage or you'll find the town you are visiting swarming with them.....
-
(Arse, stupid phone)... The original horror movie usage for zombies is to portray the slow but inevitable progression of death. You can run, fight, hide and try to fend it off but eventually they will get you. Zombies need to be slow, stupid, shambling and in much higher numbers, drawn in by activity and noise and eventually will overrun any setup you have in place. Keep building those walls and cutting down the dead, but sooner or later you'll draw in too many to handle and get swamped. Be ready to run at a moments notice....

The threat from zombies should be tied back to the some of the original horror m

There's a point they reach in the walking dead comics which I think is apt. The dead are a threat. They are something you have to deal with. But, ultimately they are a MANAGABLE threat. You learn how to handle them, how to avoid them, how to trick them and work around the issue. The other survivors are the real problem....

Hunting for elusive pistol clips and lrs's, then ammo and yellow boxes to improve storage capacity... Actually I'm pretty geared up (3 pistols plus ammo and a Moisin FFS with a painted fireaxe "for close encounters") so I'm doing the tourist trail, visiting all the sights and snapping the best pictures I can take :). Plus scoping out future base sites for when those systems are implemented....
-
I posted something about this earlier. If you wanted to move large objects about then it would be a team effort to load them into a car or carry them. Building a fence? So much easier if one person holds it in place whilst you dig it in...

Some of the buildings on the outskirts/periphery of zelenogorsk would be my choice. 1 prison, two barracks and a police station within easy reach, supermarket, multiple garages and the military base to the south is a quick sprint away or green mountain. With all the east coast spawning, much lower population than before.... :)
-
In my experience, bar meeting fresh spawns, I've either been robbed, killed or shot at by any player with a modicum of gear. :)

Anyone worried there will be too many ammo types ?
krebsy replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
I think we are missing a trick here with the whole availability of ammo and likelihood of finding it etc.... I'm not to concerned over the range of guns and ammo types as most likely there'd be .22, 9mm, 5.56, .45, .357, shotgun shells and a stack of 7.62 (soviet and NATO) knocking about and not much else. What we need to consider is how much of that is as actually made up rounds and how much is in components? As an ex-shooter, most of the ammo I had access to was stored as separate bags of bullets, cases, primers and tubs of powder. I'd love to see it in game that you were much more likely to find components and you needed to make up your own rounds by finding the right tools (press, powder measures, ball bearings and cloth wadding for shotgun shells etc) and the ability to vary the load or makeup of the rounds etc. Do you risk adding extra powder in to increase range but risking a gun jam or worse? Do you scrape all the heads off of a box of matches and add it all into your shotgun shells for phosphorous/dragon breath rounds? Do you prefer using copper jacketed 9mm or unjacketed with a ball bearing stuck on the end to pierce armour or cross-cut with a knife for added anti-personal damage? Spread the components out across the map so you have to go and hunt the parts plus make premade boxed ammo much rarer. Spawn ammo presses in factories or random houses, give players a need to join together (one guy working the press and others defending him) or when we can build bases, setup a factory and ammo trading post etc... how long does dropped gear stay in place?
krebsy replied to CardinalSins's topic in New Player Discussion
Suffered a ladder glitch and respawned, then ran back to where I knew my corpse was meant to be. No sign of it :(. I guess it suffered the "dead corpse, now slide off along the ground at walking pace" glitch... K.
