Do you want working helicopters and planes in DayZ?
krebsy replied to RedDogMT's topic in General Discussion
We need hang gliders or para gliders and a few places to launch from :). At most a small gyro copter :). K. -
Ply I've no inclination now to go anywhere east of gorka.....

I get why we spawn on the coast (shipwrecks etc) but much preferred it when we spawned on both coasts. I guess that's why Zelenogorsk is so empty every time I've been there. I love the idea of a totally random spawn, wandering through the woods all lost and alone and the sheer joy of stumbling across a small village :)...

From playing eve online I've played with a wide range of people from all sorts of countries and tbh it's never been an issue where any of us have come from. In dayz I had a blast the other night when I met another new spawn (from the USA, I'm from uk) and we zergling rushed electro armed with naught but a screwdriver, radar hat and head torch between us both. :)

For pve to work there has to be an ethos within the game that working together can grant you benefits that CANNOT be found individually or will take a huge amount of time to do individually. As an example, base building would be quick and easy if one person was holding the fence panel up whilst another hammered it into place. To do it by yourself you'd need to make a wooden support frame first then rest the panel up against it instead so taking at least twice as long. Or when there are vehicles, you'd need a buddy to manhandle a large heavy item into the back ie an ammo press or a water tank. the need or ability to drag items together to secure a site would help build a community group in the game. Lone wolves could still survive alone, but groups would get benefits by working together. Ie the water tank and a tarpaulin plus some tubing gives you a rain trap which gives you free clean water but you need to defend it collectively. Need some bullets? Go get a petrol can and pour it into the groups generator so the electricity runs the press (and the lights) and spits out rounds for everyone to use. I'd love to log onto a server at night to see the distant glow of lights at the top of tower blocks with groups of traders moving inbetween, or the flash of tracer fire as one block went to war with another :). Generally I head inland ASAP and go for novy and stary sobor as a good looting area. I've only seen three people there on high pop servers (though last one kos'ed me as I spawned in) and if I want to find people I head for berenzino. The best place to loot seems to be zelenogorsk as it's always seemingly empty, there's a prison/twin barracks and a police station and you can quickly run up to NWAF or to the two military bases.... K.

Tbh, the only friendlies I've met is as a new spawn, chatting with a few others and zergling rushing elektro in the hunt for starter loot. As soon as you have equipment, it's been either rob or Kos in my experience. K.

I thought about this the other day when I picked up the first coat I could find which was the red wool jacket. The first thing I thought was that "this would look right if I was a girl", though I donned it anyway as I needed the pocket space. If the benefits of clothing were in the system I.e. You needed to keep warm and dry but the amount of pristine clothing was limited, you'd actually have those decisions such as, "well, I can wear this girlie hello kitty hoodie, or I could freeze to death in a stubbornly manly way". I had no qualms about donning the coat (and the bright red kids backpack I found later) out of necessity, but swapped it later when something more practical came along. It's not all about "post apocalyptic barbie" issues. Clothing for both genders should be wearable by either. In a survival situation would you really pass over something practical because of its colour or negative gender connotations? Hell, a few pairs of tights will keep your legs warm under your trousers if the temperature plummets..... K.

I just left a note a whie back right in the middle of Svetlo with a knife and a payday clown mask. The note read:- "Now take the knife, wear the mask and kill the next person you see. Become Texas Jack or Texas Jack will get you! " :) K.

Waiting for host / Session Lost / Lag and Desync since last patch
krebsy replied to icetneo's topic in Troubleshooting
im getting an issue where I can play for a few minoutes then all of a sudden I can't swap or use any items or interract with the world bar running about (though my ping is listed as 17 to 20 on most servers). Then it pops up the session lost and kicks me off. No yellow or red chain up until that point, just a big boot up the arse and off the server..... K. -
Since the update I've logged on to find my toon bleeding each time I start and also the client crashing after about 2 or 3 minutes of play. Not happy as it's cost me a few days worth of play etc... Anyone having a similar crash issue though using Nvidia? using the 335.23 driver, going to roll back one and test... K.
-
So, since the new update I got slightly beaten by a zombie, and even though I have bandaged myself up and played for a bit before logging off, when I log back in I find I'm bleeding. Oh, and now dead... :(. Oh well, Ces't la vie.... K.
-
So that's why I logged in and died immediately through blood loss (after using up two medikits and a tshirt worth of bandages..) :( K.
-
It was a bit of a shock, logging on and getting swamped by about 5 or 6 Zeds, only to not be able to swing my axe.... Luckily I had two sets of bandages and a shirt to rip up to stem the blood loss, plus a pistol and a hastily grabbed m4 with a 40 round clip. It'll make the airfields a lot more interesting as they are so open so the Zeds can see you plus the seemingly rapid Respawning rate.... You'd think the great outdoors would be the best place to head to in a zombie apocalypse, it looks like the towns would actually be better... ;). Also, I've either only just noticed this or are the airfield lights now lit up? K.

had one in my bag, game decided to punish me by kicking me off a ledge after I clicked on a ladder... not bitter, much... :). Mind you, finally found a mosin to later put a scope onto.. :). K.
-
With you on this one.. :)
-
a. Variety b. I don't think it matters that much. c. in some games, if you are going to be looking at a 3rd person perspective of someones arse all day, t might as well be an appealing one.. ;)
-
What I DON'T do is climb a ladder when there is a perfectly good staircase. (not that I'm bitter or anything.... >:( )... :) K.

With Building fires, do you mean making a fire or setting a building on fire? I was thinking about this actually when I had to clear out some inventory space and ditched the gas can and stove I had spare in a house, then switched it on.... Building a fire indoors or up against a building (dependant on type) would carry the risk of fire catching hold and making the place unusable/dangerous, plus also give us another reason to have a fire extinguisher to hand. Sniper causing grief in an area? How about sneaking up, dumping a load of firewood or maybe an impromptu Molotov cocktail (made out of rags, matches and the alcohol tincture) into the stairwell and smoking/burning the bastard out? Would give the gas mask a use as well, stick one on to avoid smoke inhalation damage... That'd send up a huge smoke signal high into the sky. Maybe use smaller fires for signalling. Oh, and can we have a flare gun as well? Set zombies/ players on fire or simply send up a signal.... :) K.
-
No I'm not.... You just think I am, I know it..... :) K.
-
The mechanics for binoculars are already in the game (scopes) so it should be easy to stick something in for this. Hell, can I just duct tape the two LRS I have in my backpack together? :)

Do you leave your morality at the door?
krebsy replied to tamingatche91's topic in General Discussion
Not so much on the morality front but from a survival tactics perspective I think the number of kos events will drop once item durability/state has an effect on the benefits you get, and not just on having a scuffed scope or unreadable compass etc. Why risk destroying the loot with a shotgun blast to an unsuspecting targets back when you can talk and trade instead? Yes you can hold them up still or just gun them down but if a situation "heads to Cherno" (or "all goes south" in other words :) ) then the likelihood of the loot surviving is lower. Hopefully along the development path will be plenty of reasons for collaboration, trading and other communal work which will bring other dimensions to the game. I guess the key thing here is investment of time into a game vs. rewards. I'm happy spending my time getting better and better gear "just in case" and exploring everywhere I can and enjoy helping others along that path if possible. Why risk losing it all by taking needless chances though? Players also invest their time getting themselves kitted out and it does stay my hand when looking down the scope based on what I perceive they are doing. If they are searching for gear and trying to make do, good on them. If they are tucked away in a sniper hole taking potshots at anything they see, kos before they kos me or anyone else... :) -
Do you leave your morality at the door?
krebsy replied to tamingatche91's topic in General Discussion
I tend to dig in and covertly approach any situation with as much stealth as I can muster, then bounce as soon as it all feels wrong. I was over at Cherno earlier on a high pop server and realised that bar tourism, I had no need to be in the south if I wanted to survive. I have a few towns I sweep through and routes that keep me in cover, though I totally expect to meet up with a group or get a 7.62 from long range in my back at any moment. I've helped a few people out and only killed one newbie who came punching at me, so I whipped out a screwdriver and shanked him good and proper... Happy to share what I have, though not stupid. I think in the last 8 hours play on high pop servers I've seen maybe one other person due to the routes I run (which do take me fully from one end of the map to the other...). I did try helping a guy out and teamed up with him briefly, but he wanted to run down into berenzino and got held-up and probably killed in the process as I legged it from the situation whilst he decided to stop and talk to those giving chase. I felt bad for it, but didn't feel a 5.56 through the back... :). K.
