  1. Columbo should know this. You disappoint Mr. Falk >:( j/k I love Columbo, and the guys above are correct.

    What to do now?

Explore! The more you wander the more you'll start to recognize certain cities and such. It'll definitely help you in your future travels, having a better idea of the lay of the land. I learned Chernarus better in Day Z than I ever did playing ArmA 2, and I've had ArmA 2 for quite a long while before Day Z.

People who KoS on strict PvE-No KoS Servers.

It's like when I tell my one year old not to throw her bottle. It just makes her want to throw the shit out of it.

    Boot Camp

For most of us this isn't an issue as we've played for awhile, or are veterans of the ArmA series. This isn't an idea for us though. It's for people who are new to the game. I was in game the other day and ran across a new player. I stop and give him a few pointers, but I started thinking about the mod days. Back in mod I could give people a few tips, but I always suggested playing through the 'boot camp' missions to help them get acclimated to the controls. ArmA has always had a bit of a learning curve, because there are many controls and controls with dual functions. The average gamer isn't used to the setup. So I'm suggesting adding a new main menu option that functions like the 'boot camp' missions of ArmA 2. When you open the 'boot camp' menu a list of scenarios pop up such as: Movement - The basics of movement, sprinting, crouching, and so on. Gear - A scenario in which you are taught how to access inventory and move items to or from you pack/clothes to the hotbar, or loading ammo, or interacting with food etc. Weapons - Shooting range with a few weapons to allow for messing about with weapons, including how to set the range and such. Vehicles - Have a few cars and aircraft to choose from that allow and teach the player how the vehicles function, and allow them to get used to the feel. All of these scenarios would be single player of course, just how it was before. An image of the ArmA 2: CO Boot Camp menu in case someone is wondering what I'm on about. Be warned it's a bit large. Naturally this would all be in the future. I don't imagine this would be too difficult as it's still pretty much the same engine, but I'm not a developer so I don't really know. I think it would be good for new or novice players to get a decent grasp of the game when they decide to set foot on the unforgiving soil of Chernarus. Obligatory disclaimer: I am not currently aware of any plans or interviews that state a 'training' mode is coming. So if this has already been decided then...apologies and all that jazz.

    Bleeding attracts Zombies

They're not sharks. I'm not a fan of super sensitive zombies. I prefer the plain old, regular shambling zombie. The fact that they run in Day Z always kinda irked me, but not so much that I won't play. Actually it doesn't really bother me too much that they run at all. I still like my shamblers, but runners have a place as well. That's me though.

    Boot Camp

The story bit wouldn't be necessary, but I don't see a problem with it. However I was thinking more along the lines of single missions in which each one has a specific thing to teach the player. I suppose weaving a narrative within would make it more interesting.

    Boot Camp

I hear what you guys are saying and I totally get where you're coming from. However, I'd have to say that we all know how to throw a punch. By that I mean, swinging your fists is something that doesn't need to be taught. It's the most basic and rudimentary means of self defense that we all understand fairly quickly. To be dropped in and not know how to swing your fists around makes it a bit frustrating after the fourth or fifth death. That goes for any game. The 'boot camp' scenarios would encompass only the very basics of controls, and again, it would be totally optional and separate from online play. Even if a new player bought the game and played through each training scenario, they would only know how to interact with the world. So when they finally take the plunge they will still be totally lost and confused. Dropped on the beach with no weapons and no idea of where to go or what to do. The only difference being they know how to pick up and use an item and throw a punch if need be. Who knows if people would use it, but what I'm suggesting is giving new players an optional method to learn the fundamentals of the control scheme. As I said before, to us...we understand the controls and have a good grip on what we're doing. However the control scheme for this engine isn't as basic as ...any other military based game. Hence why OFP, ArmA, ArmA 2, and ArmA 3 all have an optional set of "boot camp" missions (called 'showcase' in ArmA 3). There are no separate training missions for other military games, because the basic controls are all the same, and re-explained in that first campaign mission. Day Z is a bit more complicated, and we're used to that...but your average gamer isn't. I want to reiterate the point that these would be basic controls, and not explaining anything about what to do or where to go or what to expect. Don't get me wrong, I understand where you guys are coming from. I'm just trying to approach this from a different stand point.

    Boot Camp

Fair enough. I don't mean it would be a required tutorial or anything. It would be an extra menu option and one could choose to play through them if they wish. Totally optional.

    A mountain man

Dude...you just gave me an idea. What if your character grew a beard, and the beard thickness and length was proportional to time survived. Same for the ladies... (also, I usually put a [ youtube ] [ / youtube ] around vids I upload and that seems to do the trick every time. It usually works without it too...that's odd. Minus the spaces of course.)

    So I'm gonna cry

That's quite a mess you made there. That's the worst, when you finally find something you've been looking for, or in your case, when you have the opportunity to snag a bunch of gear quickly, and the server resets. Forever lost in oblivion.
  11. Are you thinking more of "team v team" sorta, or semi free for all. It might be good to have people who want to participate declare a 'side'...so for example: I'm in Military Just something basic to give us an idea of how many people there are and what not. Also, should TS be allowed? Personally I think TS should be used to coordinate everyone, but as soon as the event starts make it against the rules. Granted that won't stop some, but it would be fun to make it more 'realistic'.
  12. This sounds fun. If I can get my little one to nap I'll show up and record some footage.
  13. I want to change mine to an offshore oil platform. I doubt that'd be possible, but it certainly would be bad ass. Find a huey, load it up with supplies, land on the platform, unload everything into storage units, and only leave when you have to make supply runs. Imagine the fun groups would have. A mass of fishing boats and those quick rubber boats moving under the cover of darkness to lay claim to the rig. The moonlight sparkles against the water as 'bandits' lock and load their weapons...waiting their turn to climb the mammoth structure. Meanwhile a lone sentry spots the boats far below and raises the alarm. Generators pop on and searchlights flood the surrounding sea. That's when the 'bandits' go all out, calling in air support. An old civilian mi-17 streaks across the sky. Armed with a light machine gun, the flying menace rains hellfire as tracers rake the towers. Everyone is scrambling and it's hard to make out who's who in all the confusion. Will the 'bandits' succeed in capturing the platform? Will the current inhabitants be able to fend off the well coordinated attack? Tune in next time when we conclude the epic tale of Day Z. This...is your story. Pretty good...pretty...pretty...pretty good.

    Parkour in DayZ

People have a hard enough time climbing ladders as is. :P As far as the future...I'll pass. It would look silly, and also be rather difficult especially if you're carrying a backpack full of canned food, and a rifle, and an axe, and so on. Not to mention the engine probably wouldn't allow for much. It's a fair thought, but I'm not into it.

    Russian bandits

I was not aware you could uncuff yourself. A friend and I wanted to test this out and we found we were unable to access our inventory. I stopped carrying cuff keys because of this. Has it been changed? I'm genuinely curious.

Did anyone know this was legit?

I just saw this thread in the gallery. I used to bartend so yes. The one in game is non-alcoholic. Well, I don't know that for sure, but I looked up 'kvass' and it says the alcohol content is quite miniscule. Miniscule enough to be categorized non-alcoholic.
  17. Absolutely. I'm not a fan of Rust personally, but hacking is bullshit no matter what game it is, in my opinion.

    Rain On Experimental Branch

Does anyone else think the "you are wet/not wet" messages should be done away with? I appreciate the notification, but running through a forest and having it pop up every couple of seconds seems a bit redundant. Not that it's a big deal, just a thought.
  19. Check out this bonfire! *opens marshmallows* These smores might taste like burnt, scumbag, idiot, loser, twit, numbnut, jerkwad, asshole, bitch face, stupid, hacker skin. *hands out smores*
  20. I see. Bummer it doesn't work. Good catch on the bug though! Hopefully it'll be fixed next build.
  21. Hm. Try pressing 'L' after you switch it to on. In ArmA 2 that was how you'd get the flashlight on. Maybe the weapon light thinks it needs turned on again. OR, see if there is a key to 'turn on light/laser' I don't know why it would want the extra button press, but if it still thinks it's in ArmA 2 then maybe that'll work?
  22. So... this is just coincidence, I guess? LOL Well, that settles that. I've not heard or seen any cases. Every once in awhile when one of these "I'm banned" threads pop up there has been evidence that the player was cheating. From what I've seen anyway. I may be wrong though *shrug*.
  23. Was it a server ban or battle-eye ban? What message popped up? Can you join other servers? You'll have to post some more info if you want help. Though if it is a battle-eye ban, you'll have to contact them.

[Discussion] What is the funniest/best way you died?

I was checking out the police station in Krasnostav and decided to check out the roof. Apparently getting within 3 feet of the edge is enough to slip and fall off . The stupid bit was that I was sad that I lost my leather jacket and shotgun, so I spent around 45 minutes running back. When I arrived I couldn't find my body...so I went to the roof for a better look and slipped and fell again. <_< Never again.
