  1. Not a fan of that constant flashing, personally. Also, that's a lot of video for just one murder. imho

I'm gonna find me a motorcycle and ride that highway to hell. This bike...unless they make a few new motorcycle models. I prefer the looks of the old school Triumph motorcycles, personally. I like to keep my characters low key. I try to choose weapons that I can easily conceal within my clothes or pack. It usually keeps others from shooting me outright, and comes in handy in a pinch.

Rate the Morality of these Kills

Five is a tough one. It may have been that they were friends...or you may have been right in taking him out before he killed the other guy. It's tough to say, but these kinds of situations are quite fun to deal with. Fun in the sense that you are forced to make a decision that may or may not save someone. I think in this situation I would've let it play out. If the m4 guy attacked the fresh spawn I would kill the m4 guy. I usually carry a number of medical supplies on me, so I would try to save the fresh spawn if possible. Not before taking out the mag, or hiding the m4, just to make absolutely sure he doesn't shoot me after I revive the fresh spawn. As far as this goes...different strokes, mate. I agree that just 'living' is easy enough, once you have the supplies. For me, the thing that gives me the most excitement (and requires a bit of skill as well) is approaching other players. I have been known to call out to others while in town, or if I know someone is near, in an attempt to befriend them and avoid a firefight. Sometimes it works, and I've made a number of good friends whom I still play with, when I attempt to make contact. Other times it devolves into a firefight. Other times still, I've had people betray me. Those first few moments during the 'make contact' approach are the most tense. It's like chess as we size each other up by either listening to how they are talking, or watching for odd behavior. Such as odd speech patterns where it seems like they are using third party chat, or just a general indifference in the tone of voice. I enjoy this style. I also get just as much excitement from KoS players who engage me outright. Provided they miss of course ;). Once it turns into a genuine firefight out of nowhere...it doesn't get much more pulse pounding or adrenaline pumping than those moments. To each their own, because no matter the playstyle, we all have a place in Chernarus.

I'm not sure which I'm supposed to rate...I'm just going with Danny's I'd say 7-8. I dig that all black. Plus that hat...reminds me of a post-apocalyptic Johnny Cash. Plus one for the extra protection press vest. Here's me I was going for the look Tom Savini had in 'Dawn'. I had a machete with this character, but until it starts cutting better...I'ma stick with the axe.

    Realism & Terminology in DayZ

The thing is...I'm willing to bet that a majority of the community are aware of the difference. Maybe not an overwhelming majority, but a good portion of us are aware of this. The reason you got flamed on the last one is because you're coming off as high and mighty, when in reality we're all on the same page. For the most part. Also, the terms are a good indicator of the type of person you are dealing with. For example, if someone comes up to me in game and starts asking me for 'clips' of whatever...I'll instantly know that this person is ignorant of said fact. I won't correct them...I'll just say 'no' and know that, that is not the type of person I would want on my 'team' or whatever. The community is not as ignorant as one dumb kid in a server.

I engage in a firefights if I am being attacked or threatened...or if someone is too close and refuses to back off after repeated warnings. If I notice an armed player or a group of armed players I will slip away. I refuse to shoot unarmed players unless they are chasing me down or just being annoying in general. In general, I play friendly and use my weapons for self defense. Occasionally I'll patrol the coast looking for 'bandits' who are holding up fresh spawns...should I find them I will instigate a firefight with them. On those occasions I switch to 'hit n run' tactics. The only downside to those occasions is that I don't know the full story. It could be that the person they are holding up was a 'bandit' that had killed their friend or something...and I would have killed the 'good' guys. Usually I'll wait and observe...watching for tell tale signs of 'banditry' such as force feeding bleach to someone, or knocking a restrained person unconscious. That's my own personal preference though. [EDIT: Fixed and added a couple things.]

    DayZ birthday idea

I'll try to make it as well. I'll clean up some space to record the antics. If I don't make it...happy early birthday, duder!
  8. Interesting indeed. I've been thinking that perhaps the drops come from the server having to generate a randomized set of loot in however many buildings per town. So basically the frames drop when the server is randomizing and generating the loot then placing it within the spawn points of each building and then sending all that data to the client. I noticed I got major spikes when entering an untouched town. However if I spawn within the town after a server reset, the drop isn't as severe as it was when approaching. I'm just speculating though. I really have no idea about how those sorts of things work. For all I know it may have been a random occurrence. I haven't had time to try and replicate it. Either way, I think I remember reading that rocket and team had possibly found what causes it so hopefully we'll get a fix 'soon'.
  9. It's like when people call an m4 a rifle. It's actually a machine gun. And shotguns...that one bugs me the most...it's not a shotgun idiots...it's called a boomstick

    WTF are with the Books?

Bite thy tongue ye wretched bilge rat!! Though I agree, some science books would be cool. It'd be especially cool if there were more practical books such as the 'Translation' book I've heard about. I'd like to see an anarchist cookbook of sorts that has some different crafting recipes that you could then use in game. Perhaps in the future.

Remember that mission in team fortress classic where you had to protect the VIP? Good times I imagine this event being sorta like that.

    WTF are with the Books?

The nice thing about the books is that you don't have to pick them up or deal with them if you don't want to. They are just there as a neat little addition. I think it's great that they are all readable. It's a nice touch. Adds detail, and is a cool easter egg sorta thing.
  13. Wow...just..wow. Did that cause any frame drops?

Glitchers at Prison 2 balota airstrip.

Also, yes it was most likely desync. I forgot to mention that bit. A visual glitch caused by desync. I've had pals tell me that I was halfway through the floor as well in the grocery when on my screen everything looked perfectly normal. He said if I crouched he couldn't see me at all. It's weird, but I believe it's a visual thing that occurs because of desync between players.

Glitchers at Prison 2 balota airstrip.

? Did you read any thing other than the title? Only one person is talking about getting killed by glitching assholes and he stated quite clearly that he had been running from Elektro.

Glitchers at Prison 2 balota airstrip.

I've seen this also. A friend of mine ran into the prison behind me and it looked like he was halfway in the floor. On his screen he said it was normal. It happens in the grocery also. It's a visual glitch. To the other person, they are walking normal within the building.

Glitchers at Prison 2 balota airstrip.

That sucks. However, I'm fairly certain the team knows about this and are working on a fix. It's shitty, but at least we know a fix is coming. Until then I, personally, avoid going to those buildings. Especially if it's a high pop server.

    Karma biatch!

Nice. The most satisfying moments, for me, are when you get to take out your aggressor. Especially if he is geared, gets the jump on you, and still manages to miss. Well played!

    Please ignore/delete this topic

The thing is...KoS doesn't need fixed. It happens because Day Z is a sandbox in which you and anyone else may play how they please. Even if, for some reason, they want to deter a playstyle by adding or taking away some elements there will still be people who KoS regardless. The point is it's not going to change or get fixed or tweaked because, as stated, the world is your oyster so to speak.

That looks great. Did you use any after effects?

    The Haunted Shipwreck

[NOTE: This is a bit long, but is best read in its entirety.] The Haunted Wreckage of the Pequod II Commissioned in 1985 by the Bohemia Shipping Company, the Pequod II was the most technologically advanced container ship of its time. The crew came from all walks of life from the Czech Republic to New Zealand. The ship was a floating testament to excellence. The Captain, Captain Hall, was a sailors sailor. A man who felt more at home in the midst of raging storm, cutting through rogue waves while giving the finger to Poseidon. The crew was more than capable, and just as willing to shout at the heavens when it seemed the sea and wind was conspiring against them. Yes, the Pequod II was the most successful cargo ship, carrying the roughest and toughest sailors that ever dare sail the dreaded seven seas. A week before the world went mad, the Pequod II arrived to Chernarus. She docked at the port of Chernogorsk right on time. Everything was going smooth as ice while the crew investigated the interiors of the local taverns. During the second day of unloading, one of the containers had collapsed and broken open. There has been speculation that whatever caused this madness in the people, was started by something in that busted container. Some of the survivors I have run into have said there was a peculiar substance contained within. Others still swear that there were small rodents that scurried from cages within the container. At this point it matters not for once the madness began, the crew undocked and set sail to the north. At this point, noone knows for sure what happened. Scavengers told of the remains of the ship that lie along the northern coast of Chernarus. Some say the crew was lost at sea...victims of the same madness that has come over the land. Others say the crew scuttled her and made their way inland. A few have even claimed to have seen the captain roaming through the forests, longing for the comfort of a ship at sea. Hal and I decided we would investigate. Hoping to find supplies or maybe even a way out. There would be hazards along the way. We had heard the the remains of the doomed ship was a breeding ground for banditry and murder. Sociopaths with an aversion to communication and an inability to scavenge for themselves. We had to be very careful during our travels. When we arrived we noticed the ship split in two. It is surrounded by a marsh and a massive outcropping of rocks. We scouted and determined every path and sniper position before we felt safe enough to head in. As we approached we could feel the air get heavy. Our hair began to stand on end. Even the air seemed to whisper warnings. We felt we were treading the line between this world and...something else. We persevered, locked our weapons, shared a nod, and dove headlong into the unknown. We moved from room to room cool as you like, theorizing about what could possibly break such a massive cargo ship in half and not leave neither bones nor cloth of the cursed crew. Perhaps a wicked storm...perhaps it ran aground...perhaps the fabled kraken tossed the ship aside like a child in a bath tub. It is my belief that our speculation served only to anger the spirits and fuel their rage and contempt for those who dare search her hallowed grounds. Footsteps echoed through the creaking steel hull forcing us to wonder if we were still alone. Our voices reverberating through the quarters and hallways. An eerie silence filled the air as we stopped and listened. Suddenly Hal let out a horribly, frightening scream! A soft thud followed shortly after. I made my way through the port side crews quarters to the inner cargo hold and saw it. A platform that appeared to be shattered...and underneath lie the corpse of my friend Hal. The shadows seemingly dancing along the interior walls. I decided I had to depart this hellish ship and ran back through the halls searching for a way out. It seemed as though the corridors were mocking me. A maze of ladders and staircases with doors to empty rooms. I felt as though the walls were closing in around me, a darkness consuming the outer edges of my vision. Finally I saw light...fearing for my sanity I ran toward it as fast as I could...and just as I took a breath of fresh air...the platform I stood upon collapsed. Sending me down into the depths of the belly of the beast. I lay in the middle of the split cargo hold, staring up at the sky. As my vision blurred and faded away I wished I had never heard of this accursed ship. A word of warning. Should you ever find yourself near this ship know this. I am there...Hal is there...and if you should be so daring as to set foot on our resting place you will know hell...and from hells heart I will stab at thee...and send ye back from whence ye came. Else I will pull thee down into oblivion with us...all of us. -Rhodes

Seems staged. Still though, fairly entertaining. Reminded me of the Walking Dead episode a couple weeks ago.

Derpa derp dddddderp & Welcome to DayZ

hm...I suppose that makes sense. I've just never seen that before.
  25. If I get spotted by one I run until I either lose them, or find an axe. Otherwise I try to sneak by them.
