I keep seeing people refer to 3pp as an exploit or just looking down on 3pp in general and I can't help but wonder why. It seems completely ridiculous. So ridiculous in fact that I wonder if it's a joke. Do some people consider 3pp an exploit? Along the same lines as jumping into walls? It's as silly as saying people who crouch behind walls are exploiting the game. Absurd isn't it? 3pp is part of the game, I mean...it's there...built in, part of the controls. Everyone is just as able to use it as anyone else. If you choose not to make use of it, then I guarantee the person you're in a fight with will be. If you choose to limit yourself then that's on you. The thing I don't understand is why people look down on 3pp when it is completely optional. There are two separate hives for servers that allow 3pp and servers that are 1pp only. If you don't like 3pp, you can stick to the hardcore servers. Not to mention, if the game is 'meant' to be 1pp only...don't you think they would force hardcore servers only? Why deal with separate hives when they could just have the one that you're 'supposed' to play. I just don't get why there is so much hate for 'regular' servers, when it's totally optional. It's like me getting mad at someone because they don't like the same color as me. I am genuinely curious about the 3pp hate. I've stated where I stand on this 'issue', and now I'm curious to hear from those who do not like 3pp. Particularly those who consider it an exploit or just look down on those who use it. I'm absolutely open minded to hear your thoughts. Orlok's thread has an interesting idea about 'fixing' 3pp. I think that is a pretty good idea. However, I've noticed people calling 3pp an 'exploit' for quite awhile before today. As I stated, I'm curious to hear from those who consider 3pp an exploit. [For clarification, I personally play both. My more 'serious' character is on the hardcore hive, whilst my more 'adventurous' character is on the regular hive]

Fair enough. I can dig

oh wait... Let me make it clear that I don't think 3pp is an exploit. Using it to see through the wall is, but just using 3pp isn't an exploit. I'm wondering why others consider 3pp in general as an exploit. I know it's long, but surely you don't think I'm against 3pp.
-
I don't know. I assumed they meant just going into 3pp was an exploit. If it's the 'looking through the wall' exploit, then I totally understand that.
-
How do you mean? I want to understand why people consider 3pp an exploit? I just don't get it.
-
You're not alone. Not sure exactly what causes it, but I'm sure it'll get fixed in the future. (I suppose it could be lag, or a desync issue *shrug*) Until then we just have to make do.

I propose adding another fire source in addition to the matches. A zippo with a finite amount of fluid. Zippos and lighter fluid could spawn in addition to the matchboxes. It would work the same, but instead of carrying a box of matches with you, you'd just have to carry the zippo and spare lighter fluid. I'm not sure if it is in the works, but if wind becomes a factor then the last thing I would want to use to make a fire would be matches. Not only that, but with the addition of being able to get wet, if that matchbox gets wet then they are practically done for. A zippo on the other hand can stay lit in most windy conditions. Not to mention the case itself protects against it getting wet in most cases. Obviously it'll get wet and not light if you submerge the zippo for a period of time, but in most instances of standard use it would still function properly. Should the zippo become extremely wet then there would have to be a set amount of time it wouldn't work while it is drying out. Also, I think it would be good to have some standard BIC lighters as well. Not as durable as a zippo, and not refillable (for balance purposes). They would also be more prone to wind gusts. Naturally the BICs and matchboxes would be more common than the zippos. I'm sure using sticks to make fire will also be introduced, but I'd only use that method as a last ditch effort. Granted the game is about survival and such, but it's silly to think that the apocalypse would simultaneously eradicate all lighters. What do you guys think? [EDIT: Added poll]

Added a poll for posterity.

A fine weapon, indeed.

"I'm a good shot, what do you want from me?" [EDIT: Fixed quote]

Totally, I'm all for a few motorcycles in game. I want to build up a biker gang like in the original "Dawn of the Dead"

As I said before. I've been playing friendly since before frankie knew what Day Z was. To suggest that everyone who plays friendly is copying the style of a youtuber is ignorant. I've seen a few of his videos, and they can be entertaining sometimes. I'm not a huge fan by any means...in fact I could take it or leave it. What's annoying is when fanboys go insane and start saying "you stole that idea from frankie" if I post a video. That shit is downright stupid.

Ah, I see. On that note, I'd like to see some sort of custom patch kind of thing. Where you could have a 'team' insignia that you design and be able to wear it on your sleeve. After you've found a 'patch kit' or something in the game world. However, I'd imagine the younger ones of the community might just make a poop design and have silly stuff on their patches. Maybe, instead of a customizable patch, a set of patches you can find within the world. Ones that have the 'medic cross' or some others that are...more 'bandity' I suppose. Perhaps some that appear 'friendly' in design. Then again, there would be nothing to stop 'bandits' from wearing the 'hero' patch... What if they took a page from mod and made the patch ...like attach the patch to the 'humanity' meter. I dunno, I could go either way on the patch idea. That is to say I'm not really for or against the patches. Those are just some thoughts I had while typing. Anyway, back on topic. I generally play friendly. I don't open fire unless I'm either fired upon, or someone doesn't comply with my orders to stay back. If I see a fresh spawn and I have an abundance of food I'll approach and offer food and drink. Actually there have been a couple times where I shoot first. If I see a group of geared players harassing a fresh spawn. In that instance I'll take a few shots and try to take out the bullies before ducking back into the treeline. I leave the fresh spawn to do what he will at that point. Unless he's cuffed and I have a key. Then I'll uncuff him and go about my way, otherwise I'll slip away, hopefully unnoticed.

I don't think that gear affects my playstyle. I think the gear we have now and gear we may get in the future still won't affect my playstyle. That is to say, I see gear as tools to supplement a certain playstyle. The players are fairly creative in their playstyles. The gear just helps to further customize the experience. That's me though.

I've been playing 'friendly' before frankie even knew DayZ existed.

Also, if you're typing in direct chat then your name will precede the text.

Isn't there a way to search for every instance of the word "dayz" and replace it?

Take a break for a little while. Then come back fresh. That's what I do if I feel I'm getting burnt out. Naturally it sucks getting killed, especially like that, but at the same time the game isn't fully optimized and things like this are bound to happen.

You know what's great about experimental? It's completely optional.

As far as realism goes I think it needs tweaked. If you get into a fight with someone and you have your fists up as well it's only natural to try and block or dodge punches that are coming toward you. However, currently the game doesn't account for that. I think that if you're going toe to toe with someone, you ought to be able to take a couple of hits before going down, or add a sort of blocking mechanic for hand to hand. As far as say...a fast sucker punch...I could see that being a one hit KO. However going toe to toe should allow you to take a couple hits in order to account for the blocking or dodging one would normally do.

My donation is this, the most excellent of songs.

No idea. If you can, try to draw up your own little map so that you can find it again. The maps don't include small ponds. Also, I think that a lot of the little streams and small ponds have been added in. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure a lot of these weren't in ArmA 2

Kudos to whoever went through the trouble of making the book covers in game. In most games all the books are the generic red covered rectangles. It's great to see the book and be able to identify it immediately. Actually kudos to whoever is adding the detail to the items in game. I was 'inspecting' a morphine injector awhile back and noticed a bar code. Curious, I looked it up on google and sure enough it referred me to a few medical websites that describe the actual product. I love when games have that much attention to detail.

I'd like to see dragging brought back in, in case a pal gets knocked down in the open or has his legs broken. For those who are not familiar with the dragging mechanic in ArmA 2, allow me to explain. If you are aware, then skip down below. ArmA 2 had an option to drag (and also carry) wounded soldiers. It worked by using your scroll wheel near the wounded soldier and choosing the 'drag' option. This would make you grab the gear strap on the back of the troop and allow you to move backwards only. If you scrolled again you would have the option to pick up the soldier and put him over your shoulder. You could then move forwards and backwards. Once you were in a safe spot behind cover you'd scroll down to 'drop' and you would let go/gently place the wounded troop on the ground. From there you could use your first aid and be done. I think this mechanic could be used and prove to be more functional and necessary in Day Z, as it takes a bit more work to get someone back into the game, leaving the medic vulnerable for extended periods. It would only make sense to pull someone to safety before bandaging, applying morphine or an epi-pen, or whatever the circumstance requires. Note: This is solely about the ability to drag a wounded player. I'm not talking about the tactics or the first aid procedures. I don't foresee any problems with allowing dragging, but if you do then feel free to express your thoughts.
