  1. No matter what happens...there will always be someone willing to KoS. Personally, I think it's fine. It adds a lot of tension and gets my heart going when someone takes a shot at me...and misses of course. When it becomes a real firefight is when it's fun. I play friendly so, I don't get into firefights unless I'm engaged...it's more entertaining to me than finding food and hiding in a forest. Then again, I'm the guy who goes out looking for 'bad' guys. It always sucks when you get shot and don't have a chance to engage the enemy, but with a little practice and awareness...you'll be able to avoid most encounters, if you so choose. In summation, KoS is here to stay. It's something we've all had to learn to deal with or avoid.

In-Game Books: What are you reading?

Unfortunately I found that on experimental. Which I think just got wiped, if I understand the devtracker correctly. I'm bummed, only got a few pages in. If I still have it when I log back in and if I survive long enough to finish it...it's totally yours afterward.

In-Game Books: What are you reading?

I like that there are books in game that can be read. Way cool detail, imo. I just picked this up the other day.

Wow...that is the most apathetic promotion ever.
  7. I had a guy corner me in the firestation at Elektro. All I had was an axe, and this guy was toting an SKS. I told him I just wanted to leave, and as I head downstairs to make a break for it he comes around the corner, SKS at the ready. I bull rushed the guy and he started taking shots at me. I'm still surprised by how he missed. Long story short, I take him out and strip his gear.
  8. I certainly hope not. One of the reasons I stopped playing for awhile was because everyone and their brother had their own mod...of the mod. It just got oversaturated with so many mods. I prefer one version of the game. As opposed to a ton of slightly modified versions of the same thing. That's me though.

    Help!

You mean inside the building? Like...in the walls?
  10. Number 2. Stay here long enough and you'll start to understand what I mean.
  11. Criticize all you like, but telling the dev team they are slow at optimizing the game...wtf is the point? It doesn't make them work faster. Noones telling you not to criticize. You just need to figure out what constructive criticism is.

    A real problem

[This is copy pasted from the other thread...on the same issue] Two threads made almost thirty minutes apart, talking about exactly the same thing...and some wonder why people get annoyed in their responses? http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/180290-for-the-love-of-god-please-fix-some-basic-mechanics-first/ There are separate teams working on different parts of the game. While the optimization team works on...optimization. The content team keeps working on content. If content gets done, it gets added. The optimization team is still working on optimization. That is just how it is. Telling people this has nothing to do with trying to kiss ass. It's to help people understand the process that this dev team uses. Thing will be fixed. If you can't be patient, then play something else. I hate saying 'it's alpha', but...this is part of what comes when a game is still in alpha.

wow, we said that at the same time!

I'm OCD and this was AMAZING

Looks like the Death Star through the scope like that. That's the water tower in Gorka, yes?
  16. I probably won't. I didn't even know the mod was still being worked on...is there a separate team that works on the mod still? Anyone know per chance?
  17. This game was/is completely open ended. It was designed this way to give players the freedom to do as they please. It's always been this way. If one hasn't figured out that, with the freedom we get, there will be 'bad' guys out there...then perhaps this isn't the game for you. Day Z is not black and white. There are a lot of shades of grey. There should never be a deterrent for any playstyle. I'm all for everyone playing however they so choose. Be it 'friendly' or 'bandit'. I choose to play friendly myself, and without KoS players...I wouldn't have nearly as much fun, nor nearly as many pulse pounding moments. Accept that, or move on. Besides, the future of Day Z has a lot less guns and a lot more 'old school' weaponry. Even still...that won't stop people from killing eachother with baseball bats if that's what they want to do. [EDIT: Also, PvE servers are a joke. Is that really the game you want to play? There are plenty of alternatives. Try Left 4 Dead or Project Zomboid if you want to kill zeds.] [PS: Zomboid is actually a really good zombie survival game. It's like Day Z...but PvE. They'll be adding multiplayer soon, but that will be optional.]

Nicely done. It reminded me of the ending to the 'Dawn of the Dead' remake.

    Most epic moment in DayZ?

I think my most epic moment was...it was a long time ago. Back when the mod was starting to get popular. I had been sitting in a bush overlooking the north west airfield. After a few minutes I noticed a few players running about. I called out in side chat to make contact. After a little back and forth we met up. They invited me onto their TS and we started looting the airfield together. Eventually we found a huey. We spent about an hour getting her fixed up and fueled. We left to pick up a friend of theirs on the coast. We flew around a bit and decided to head back to NW to gear him up. After about thirty minutes of gearing and rummaging a shot rang out. All of a sudden one of our guys said he had been killed. BANG BANG, A couple more friends are brought down. Now it's just me and the first guy I met. We're hiding out in the large garage. He contemplates logging out and I say "hell no...we worked to hard to get that huey running. I'm not leaving it to some assholes that snuck up on us." So he sits in that garage and I decide to make my way to the treeline. I tell him to keep watch for the "bad" guys. He sees a few head into the barracks and I decide this is my one shot. I get up and make a break for the chopper. I hop in and start her up, but it takes a few seconds to get the blades rotating. The whole time I'm thinking "come on...come on" like I'm in some kind of horror film. Finally I start to lift of the ground. I jam my left foot down to turn the chopper away from the "bad" guys, and as I start to nose down "plink plink plink" rounds start ricocheting off the hull of my huey. I gain a bit more altitude and start flying away, but not before yelling "Later bitches" in side chat. I escaped with the chopper and was able to pick up my new pals. It was quite exhilarating. I was lucky enough to have captured the whole story on fraps. I made it into a playlist if anyone is curious, otherwise I'll embed the last part "The Great Escape" below.
  21. [EDIT: I forgot to mention. The story is a bit long, but it provides a better context to the video below.] I spawned near Elektro. Near the docks on the south west side of town. I went about my way, stopping at all the usual spots I check when I'm in the area. I had found a taloon bag and a splitter axe fairly quickly. I figured I'd stock up on food and drink and get out of town. Along the way I ran into another player. We had about the same amount of gear, so we stopped and chatted for a moment. He said he had just gone through Elektro and there wasn't a whole lot left. I thanked him and said I'd rummage around a bit anyhow. We waved and parted ways. The town was pretty barren, as my fellow survivor had said. I grabbed a few cans of soda and was able to switch out my splitter axe for a fireaxe. I was just about done in Elektro, with just the northern fire station left on my list. I ran inside and had a look around. Nothing much left, except a better compass than the one I was carrying. I finished up rummaging through the tower and started making my way back downstairs. As I stepped down the last set of stairs I looked towards the door and that's when my heart skipped a beat. I looked up just in time to see a man, armed with an SKS and carrying plenty more than myself. We stopped at the same time, seemingly noticing each other simultaneously. His rifle already at the ready, I quickly hopped back upstairs. I call down saying "Hey, take it easy. I don't have any weapons...well my axe, but that's it". My heart races as I try to think of a way out of this situation. "Put your hands up" the man says from below. I start to think about tales I've heard...terrible deeds done to those foolish enough to be taken hostage. I slowly pull my axe around, over my shoulder. I say back "Ok...my hands are up" as I clutch my axe tighter. I consider jumping out the window and making a break for the ladder. (This is where the video starts) A few seconds go by, which in my mind felt more like minutes. I call down again, "I'm just trying to get out of here." Constantly pacing in case I need to make a sudden dash. A few more seconds tick away. I feel like a mouse, trapped in a corner. I decide I've had enough and make my way downstairs. For a moment I think he must've gone about his way and I can leave peacefully. As I take the last few steps he comes running back in, gun up and all. How sneaky...he waited until he heard me coming down the stairs. At this point instinct kicks in. I charge the man, trying desperately to dodge each projectile the man sends my way. It feels like every second is taking forever. Each round zips past my body in slow motion. I shut my eyes and swing wildly. The momentum of the axe is suddenly halted, and I can hear the mans skull crack as the blade of the axe digs its way deeper into his cranium. The cavity left behind by the axe looks like a narrowing chasm. He lets loose a couple more rounds as his body shuts down, his hands and fingers twitching as his muscles spasm before going completely limp. In a fit of rage I strike the man a few more times. I take the mans bag and weapon. My trip through Elektro turned out to be more fruitful than I had anticipated. He dared to think he could take me hostage...he thought he had the advantage. His mistake was not taking control of the situation, and letting me get too close. Later as I looked through the bag I notice a 'clown' mask. "Hmph" I toss it aside. Morale of the story: Never let your guard down, and never underestimate the danger of an 'ungeared' fresh spawn. Also, don't corner a man with an axe and a determination to survive.
  22. I have no idea how he missed. I thought for sure I was a dead man. I think it was a combination of my dumb luck, and his arrogance. I think that he thought he had control of the situation, and that since he had the gun he could overpower me. Also, if I didn't kill him then I'm glad. Hopefully he woke up stripped of his gear and crawling around in a bloody mess looking for help. Maybe that'll teach him not to try and mess with fresh spawns. I refuse to be taken prisoner.

Reason why Bandits rise and heroes die.

You can still play the mod. Why not make a private server there. Otherwise I don't know what to tell you, and neither will anyone here. It's just not part of standalone. And if it's coming...the devs will implement it when they feel it works properly, or when they feel it's appropriate. No amount of begging is going to change that. So you can be patient, or switch to something else.
