I jumped on it earlier. It's seemed like "chernarus life" with zeds. I personally wasn't diggin' it.
-
Not any time soon. There are a few posts about it, use the search to find rocket's explanation.
-
It takes away from the fun for me. If I get fired upon I stay through to the end. That's where all the excitement comes from. Gear happens. The combat experiences (good or bad) are where the best stories come from.

Backstory: After being killed at the airfield, Braden and I head to Elektro to gear up. We run into a couple other guys and start heading towards the Northern factory and firestation. Suddenly I get shot and go down, quickly followed by the other two. Braden manages to survive and hides out. By the time I make it back to my corpse, a couple more bodies were added to the pile. Then Braden gets shot. I found a CZ and decide to take revenge for the deaths of my comrades. After thirty minutes of flanking I'm in position to put a hurtin' on our enemies. The following is what happened afterward:

Some of us have found DMRs, some have found silenced M4s, or M107s, or NVGs, GPS, M16 ACOGs, even a radio, but the greatest find of all... The Mountain Dew.

lol, that's awesome. It was a good time.

Of all the zombie movie endings I've seen, the Dawn of the Dead remake did it best in my opinion. Even though they escaped and made it to an island...they still got fucked. It would be most non-heinous if we had some goals to work towards. No end game objectives or anything, but something that would seem like you might "win". The factions thread brings up a few interesting things that could be done. Say there is a scientist class. They have a lab, or better yet, have to put a lab together in an abandoned building. There, they do work to true to find a cure. Maybe add some exotic chemicals, small vials with random viruses/medications. So in the lab the scientist would work on combining these items until they found something that could be used as medicine for other survivors. Also, if being bitten was implemented in a way, where your character is slowly dying, if the scientist in a nearby town has a lab with a reversing agent, you could be saved. This also adds a dynamic in which the scientists in the lab would rely on the survivors that are out gathering supplies. It would give them a goal as well. If the scientist needed more penicillin then it would be up to the bamfs to get the supplies. Say someone elses goal is to escape the island. They would either need to be a pilot, or find a pilot. Then escort him around until you came to a plane or chopper that was still fixable. Well then you'd also need a mechanic. Skipping some of the details, once you get the aircraft in working order you could start rescuing other survivors. Or try to make a daring escape to...another island, or one of the small ones already in cherna. At which point I guess you could role play yourself as "winning". Another I suggested in the "Radio Transmitter" thread, was using the Green Mountain radio tower. Maybe to call for help. Put some variables in so that when you broadcast you could potentially send the signal to the govt that "this island is overrun and we are screwed forever, send help" at which point a nuke is dropped on Chernarus. Anways, sorry that is a long read. That's my couch full of change.

Yeh, I turn up my gamma otherwise it's pitch black for me. I bring the brightness up a bit in editing also. Ah, if you watch in 1080p the shot through the grass makes more sense. I could see his upper torso when the grass swayed. Also the music was a reference to how the zeds sound like the predator a bit now, and the other was a homage to dawn of the dead. I agree though, I should have cut music a bit better. Also, the "easy mode" is server side =/. Thanks for the comments/watching though!

I put together a six part series of my adventure at the NW airfield. All of it occurred over the course of one evening in DayZ. Features include suspense, undead ghouls, a chopper, death, mystery, and daring escapes! Part I Part II Part III Part IV Part V Part VI

Video of chopper repair =)

There we go, all parts are uploaded now. It was a most excellent adventure...maybe more-so than Bill and Ted's.

Trusting your fellow survivor, in Day Z

This is a video I recorded the other day. It shows initial interaction between myself and two others before we choose to team up or not. Every once in awhile you come across people that are reasonable, most of the time not. -
Should there be a reward for time survived?
savini replied to DaPessimist's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The only problem I see arising out of this would be people grabbing food and water, and sitting in a forest forever. Only leaving to get more food and water. *shrug* -
Newbies, please put things in perspective...

At least play through some of the boot camp missions. I try to help the nubz in-game, but half the time the questions I answer are things like "how do I get over this fence?" or "how do I put stuff in my bag?" or even "how do I pick stuff up?" I'm putting an FAQ together to explain the basic arma mechanics, should be done by tomorrow. -
There are a few decent guides stickied in this forum. Some videos and such, it's a good starting point. Quick tip: Grab some gear, then bail from the coast. Stay cautious forever. ;)

This is a short video I made to test fraps, but it features a song I'm working on for future dayz things. [EDIT: @andrew, if you hit "new reply" you can embed a youtube video by clicking the tv screen on the right and selecting "youtube" and pasting the link.] -
Seeing myself on my own map (with GPS)

It *is* server side then? I opened my map and saw myself. Got worried I came across a nasty bug. -
You know what sucks? (post your best dayz FML stories here)

Picking up a "friend" in the chopper. Then after a lengthy server crash, which resulted in the loss of the helicopter, have him run up and blast me and our other buddy for a DMR. All of this after, healing us with blood packs and being normal for the previous hour or so. Also while on TS with us. After killing us he promptly disconnected TS and the game. I had the DMR the whole time beforehand also. Talk about bi-polar. -
A perfect example of anti fun banditry
savini replied to Survivalist (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What if...there was a reward for gaining humanity. If your humanity is at 8000 (hypothetically) Then you would perhaps acquire a military skin. Also, either when you pass the 8000 mark or on your next spawn, your default gear would be low end military weapons. Then say you start killing everyone and your humanity drops to 4000 (hypothetically) you lose the skin, and the default spawn weapons. Just a thought that popped in my head. Honestly, I don't mind it the way it is. Either way, cheers. -
Suggestions to solve the biggest issues

4. There is a "surrender" button. It's a quick animation of your character putting his hands on his head. I don't think it is bound to anything by default, but it is in the controls menu.
