    How fast does night change?

Time is 1:1 real time. So...it could be hours, depending on the server you're on. Rather depending on the time it is in the server. To run by default is pressing W x2. You can vault by pressing V. If you're running it lets you leap, but if standing it will be more of a...well it's slower.

    Communication Breakdown

A few days ago I posted a video of some player interactions in which I encountered three types of players. The first interaction was quite indifferent, the second was quite violent, and the third was quite helpful. Because of that third encounter I linked up with the guys that rescued me in my time of need and we went off to have an adventure. This video shows our interactions with players that doesn't involve digging through the pockets of a decaying corpse!! So for those of you who have lost all hope and are reverting to killing one another know that there are a few of us that still exist. That's not to say we won't defend ourselves should the occasion provide =P thanks for checking this out. Cheers. [EDIT: I forgot to specify...the ship isn't haunted. We glitched through the deck and fell to our deaths...so. Wait...no that means it actually is haunted.]

    Communication Breakdown

That's exactly right monkfish. I didn't think about the feedback happening until it was happening though =/. We'll switch it and have it fixed for next time. The funn...the unfortunate thing about that ship is that I hadn't ever seen it before. So as we're approaching it we're talking about how we heard people saying it's a bandit trap and there are snipers abound and whatnot. So we take our time, inching ever closer, keeping a watchful eye on every bit of grass that moves. Finally we arrive and start exploring the belly of the beast. We move from room to room cool as you like, theorizing about what could possibly break such a massive cargo ship in half and not leave neither bones nor cloth of the cursed crew. Perhaps a wicked storm...perhaps it ran aground...perhaps the fabled kraken tossed the ship aside like a child in a bath tub. It is my belief that our speculation served only to anger the spirits and fuel their rage and contempt for those who dare search her hallowed grounds. Footsteps echoed through the creaking steel hull forcing us to wonder if we were still alone. Our voices reverberating through the quarters and hallways. An eerie silence filled the air as we stopped and listened. Suddenly Hal let out a hair raising scream! A soft thud shortly after. I made my way through the port side crews quarters to the inner cargo hold and saw it. A platform that appeared to be shattered...and underneath lie the corpse of my friend Hal. I decided I had to depart this hellish ship and ran back through the halls searching for a way out. It seemed as though the corridors were mocking me. A maze of ladders and staircases with doors to empty rooms. Finally I saw light...fearing for my sanity I ran as fast as I could toward it...and just as I took a breath of fresh air...the platform I stood upon collapsed. Sending me down into the depths of the beasts cargo hold. I lay, staring at the ceiling, my vision blurred and fading away. I wished I had never seen this accursed ship. Should you ever find yourself near this ship know this. I am there...Hal is there...and if you should be so daring as to set foot on our resting place you will know hell. From hells heart I stab at thee...and send ye back from whence ye came. [i got a bit carried away there...but yeah, that about sums it up]

    UnScripted Movie

Good morning, good afternoon, or good evening. I have finally started putting the pieces together for my experimental movie. The premise is this. I join a public server and play in character then take the footage and add voiceover to help push the story itself forward. All other players are random pubs...so it makes things quite interesting as not even I know how the story will end. Part 1 The first series is experimental as I'm trying to get a feel for a layout. Feedback is appreciated. Cheers! and thanks for checking it out!

    UnScripted Movie

Thanks for the feedback fellas. Here be part dos Part 3 will be up on the new channel shortly, but I'll be sure to post a link here as well. Anyone got any tips for future parts? I think it would be interesting to get members of the community to hop in and try to link up. As long as we stay in character. Let me know what you think!
  11. I've had an idea kickin' around in my brain for awhile. An idea where I would play DayZ completely in character. Then I would edit it down to the good bits, throw some narration in, and have a cinematic type adventure. Think of it as a reality based movie. Where everything that happens in unscripted, and the narrator can only react to what is happening. Other players I meet become characters all their own in the "movie" as I stick to my characters thoughts. Here is an interlude clip that serves as a basic idea of what to expect. (Watch in HD) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CgtzFvwt-s Let me know what you guys think! Cheers.

DayZ - The Unscripted Movie (HD)

Haven't seen those. Honestly I took the idea from a guy that does something similar to this in KSP. (Macey Dean) Though it's probably better to just assume this is some rubbish and discount all credibility immediately.
  13. Good Morning, Good Afternoon, or Good Evening. As an avid player of the ArmA series there was always one thing that bothered me. No matter what "class" you choose, everyone and their grandmother can hop into a chopper and take off. DayZ is no exception. DayZ would be (in my opinion) a game in which a class system would be most relevant. First and Foremost: I am not talking an 'RPG' style class system. No matter what class you choose, your skills or level would never change. Everything would be constant. I'm talking "Job Title" sort of thing. Where you would choose a "profession" that you had before the outbreak selectable at spawn. Exhibit A: The Pilot You decide to choose "pilot". Before the outbreak you were a pilot for the local news station. Covering all the high speed chases from Chernagorsk to Elektrozavodsk. Now that the outbreak is a full on epidemic your skills have made you an asset to any group. So. You're background as a pilot makes it so that only you (and fellow pilots) are able to fly. Say you come across a group of other survivors you could yell to them that you are a pilot. Provided they don't already have a pilot they may be more hesitant to kill you outright. Exhibit B: The Doctor Perhaps you like to help people. A former surgeon before the outbreak, your skills in the new world are highly advantageous to any group. When treating patients you are able to restore full health faster than the average person. This means less medical supplies are used. (The medic class in ArmA is already like this.) Exhibit C: The List Let's try to compile a list of useful professions shall we? The Mechanic (For Repairs) The Cook (For Food) The Architecht (For Crafting?...is that going to be part of standalone?) The Police Officer (Spawn with M9) The Army Private (Spawn with Rifle) Some more... Exhibit D: The Lore When I was a kid my dad would usually be watching some shitty horror movie. So I grew up with a lot of zombie films playing while I sat with my GI Joes. One of the aspects of those films I personally enjoy is watching how the characters interact. Usually you have a couple of survivors that meet up or happen across others. There is always a bit of tension while the characters try to figure out eachothers intentions. Sometimes you have to be able to offer something in exchange for your own life. Example: Day of the Dead One of my favorites (and the premise for my name). In it there was a character named John. He was the only one able to pilot the helicopter outside. In one scene Cpt. Rhodes kills a scientist to get the pilot to fly them out of there. In DayZ that conversation would never happen on account of everyone being able to fly. End We can make all sorts of classes that make it more advantageous to anyone or any group. This would help with the "kill on sight" attitude most people have. Though it's fine if you want to play like that. This would be good for players looking to band together with others more easily. I now leave it up to you, the jury, to help or critique the case I have laid before you. Cheers.

    Best DayZ YouTubers

I have the greatest adventures of all time. Not even kidding around
  15. I was playing about a half hour ago when out of nowhere I get booted (along with several others) for this. Luckily I was recording when this happened. I slowed it down at the end to show that multiple players were kicked for this same thing. Not sure why, how, or what causes this...anyone know anything about this?

    pvp

That's what happens. Surely you don't expect someone to unload a couple mags in a city and not get swarmed.
  17. Why punish people in a game that is based on sandbox survival. We are all free to do as we please, therefore we are all capable of the same thing. Punishing someone for their choice in gameplay style seems like a bad thing. To me anyway. That's just me though. Cheers.
  18. I met a friendly 'group' one time. At the NW AF no less. We ended up working together to get a huey working and had a fun adventure filled evening. A video of our first encounter. [EDIT: First contact occurs at around 3:20]
  19. One spent bullet, with a spent cartridge as a token of appereciation ;) :P

This is getting out of hand...

    the padlocks
  21. savini

    I can start playing.

The only way you're gonna be able to play at all is to at the very least buy 'operation arrowhead'. You can download ArmA 2 for free from the bohemia website. Search the forum for help getting it setup.

Im scared... but not of the Zombies

I always thought that was the best part of DayZ. Zeds are consistent. It's your fellow man that you have to be weary of. Which is how I believe it should be. Player encounters are the most exhilarating moments. I dunno about adding more zeds, or making them more dangerous, but if a challenge is what you're after...see how long you survive with just a pistol ;) That's just me though. Cheers

Idea to sort out some trust issues

I *do* think a class system would accomplish what OP was getting at. That would be an interesting mechanic, if it could be implemented. Say you choose "Pilot" and you run into a "Bandit" and you also happen to be near a function huey. The bandit would be less inclined to kill the pilot, as it would also kill his chance at quick travel. The pilot *could* kill the bandit for his gear and fly off, but he would no longer have an extra set of eyes, or a gunner. Don't get me wrong they could both kill eachother just as easy. Having a class sorta system might give incentive to cooperate more fully. I'm not talking +1 modifiers or any bullshit like that, but "pilots" fly, "mechanics" repair, "medics", and so on and so forth. All players would function as they normally would, with a specific set of skills that would hopefully help players work together for a common goal. BAF added such functionality with "engineer" units, and medics have functioned this way for...ever, so it is feasible. That's my opinion anyway. Cheers
