    Rain makes the game unplayable.

It may not be the rain. There have been a lot of people experiencing massive frame rate drops. Check this thread http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/172292-fix-for-fps-lag-bug-found/ Hopefully that works...unless it really is the rain in which case, I dunno .

    Leather jacket?

I'm curious to see what it looks like as well. The gamepedia site doesn't have it listed as of this moment.
  3. I agree with the dynamically spawned wrecks. There was a time when everyone was posting about random encounters they had...encountered. People would talk about seeing doctors and such jumping off of buildings because they couldn't take it anymore. Others would talk of military units rolling through town, taking out everything in sight....and also witnessing heli crashes. The random encounters rumors were always just that though. Rumors. I don't think any of those things actually happened, but I do believe they are planned for...the future!

    spray paint message by players

Like the old half-life system? Where you'd have a set image you could paint if you had a spray can? It could be interesting. Leaving a tag to let people know that you, or your squad, had laid claim to the area. [On a side note: this is the sort of topic that would be more beneficial in the "Suggestions" forum. Also I believe there have been a couple similar suggestions. Just for future reference.] Cheers!

    Advanced note system & diaries

That stat tracking idea is pretty interesting. I could get into that. Based on your idea, would you have the diary only track the stats of the player during that life, or would you have an "overall" stat page as well? Maybe two pages dedicated to "this life" and "overall"?

    Chopper Wreck

Have you heard about the remains of the civilian helicopter near the coast? It supposedly lies within the woods just west of the broken cargo ship, near the railroad tracks. No one is sure when it came to its final resting place, but from the looks of it...it has been a there long while. It sits there in a ditch collecting rust, mud, and plant life. Nature itself is tearing it down...reclaiming every last scrap that man had created using natures gifts. Gather round comrades, and hear the tale of four ill fated survivors and their mi17. The story begins with the first reports of the outbreak. Francine worked for the CNC (Chernarus News Corp.) along with her husband Stephen, the stations helicopter pilot. As the reports came in Francine did her best to relay the information between the newscasters and the program directors. However, as the situation became more dire, Francine and Stephen decided to abandon the station. They would take the helicopter and seek the safety of the skies. They wouldn't travel alone though for Stephen had a friend on the SWAT team. A friend called Roger. Roger had been a member of the Chernogorsk SWAT team for only a month when the outbreak occurred. He made a friend in Peter, a long time SWAT team member and veteran of the war of 2009 fighting alongside team Razor. When the citizens began going mad and eating eachother, the entire police force was called in to help bring order to the chaos. Including Roger and Peters unit. They were sent to the high rise apartments north of Chernogorsk to help rescue survivors, and put down anyone deemed a violent threat. As the two worked with their team up each floor Roger received a message from Stephen. Stephen desperately needed Rogers expertise and skill with a firearm, so he explained the futility of fighting the menace and offered him a spot on the news helicopter. Roger decided to go...and so he pulled Peter aside and together they slipped away during the madness that overcame the rest of the team. The group had done fairly well considering the world as they knew it had completely disappeared. They would fly from place to place and survive for as long as the food lasted. They seemed to prefer malls, and so they flew from mall to mall...shopping for new sanctuary. They were even able to fend of a roving group of bikers. They had become a fearsome force. Almost nothing phased them anymore. Nothing except the inevitability of what happened to so many before them. They began to grow tired of constantly running. Fuel was becoming scarce and food scarcer still. One day during one of Stephens patrols he noticed something. Something he hoped would save them all. He hurried back to the makeshift camp and told the others. "I think we may have a way out." Stephen told the group. "How do you mean?" Peter asked. "There is a radio tower near Krasnostav!" Stephen replied with great excitement. The group stared. "Is that it?...There are dozens of radio towers...like everywhere..." Francine remarked. "No, but this one was functional!" Stephen exclaimed. The group perked up. "Whats more...as I flew overhead I saw flares light up." Stephen added. "I don't know man...it could be a trap..." Roger was a bit reluctant. "It very well could be, but you know what...even if it is...I'd rather be shot than eaten alive." Stephen made a good point. With that the group loaded up the essentials and began to take flight. As the engine whirred to life, Roger felt a nervous uneasyness about the journey ahead. The instrument panel suddenly let out a long, monotonous tone. Stephen gave it a quick smack, silencing the alarm. "Nothing to worry about...just a loose wire" Stephen remarked. It wouldn't be long now. Whatever fate awaited them would soon be at hand. "There it is, you see it!" Roger pointed to the flashing warning light at the top of the tower. It was hard to miss. I blinking beacon of hope flashing against the backdrop of an evening sky. Everyone let out a cheer as they approached. As they drew near they could see flares light up at the base of the tower. Someone was down there waving for them. They began to descend. The anticipation was almost too much. Stephen could barely hold the controls steady. Stephen was unfaltering in his resolve. Slowly they descended. Sixty meters. Fifty meters. The group felt confident, not to mention, they hadn't been shot at yet. "Finally. A place to stay and radio for help." Francine was happy. The first time she had felt something other than depression in a long while. The group smiled with excitement. Forty meters. Thirty meters. They could see the man with the flare as he approached. He carried a medical kit and waved at the group. Twenty-five meters. Stephens smile slipped from his face. "What is it, Stephen?" Francine became concerned, but before she could get an answer the helicopter began to shake. "Hold on." Stephen said trying to focus on the task at hand. Francine could see the rudder pedals moving back and forth as Stephen pulled up and away from the radio tower. Francine started to hyperventilate beside Stephen. "Francine! Don't!!" Stephen yelled. Peter pulled Francine to the back in an effort to calm her down and allow Stephen to do his job. "Ok...ok...easy now." Stephen tried to calm the massive chopper as it undulated through the dark sky. "Stea..." just before Stephen could finish his word the instrument panel lit up with a symphony of alarms and beeping tones. "What the hell?!" Roger exclaimed. "Hold on to something!!" Stephen yelled. The helicopter began to spin out of control as Stephen yanked the collective lever up, forcing the helicopter higher. The helicopter climbed and climbed as Stephen fought to cancel the rotation by gaining speed. They were heading towards the water as the engine seized up. "Oh shit" Stephen quietly murmured as the 16,000 pound behemoth plummeted. The last thing Stephen saw was the wreckage of a split cargo ship. So the story goes...as told to me by the doctor from the radio tower. Interestingly, however, no bodies have ever been found. No one is sure what happened to those four survivors. Perhaps they survived and are roaming the wilderness as we speak...perhaps they were killed in the crash. Their corpses completely consumed by the undead menace. I managed to make my way to this wreck. This footage shows all that remains of the group.

    The coldest morning in Krasnostav

Thanks for checking out my vids :) I have most of the details jacked up and turn down shadows and grass and such. Mostly its my processor. I have an i7 960 with a gtx 550. I only have 6 GB of ram though, I need to get a bit more and update my card and I should be set for a week.

    Books!?

I personally like the books myself. It's a neat detail, especially considering just about everyone in Chernarus has a bookshelf. In fact, I've been looking for Moby Dick. [side note: You can equip the book and read through all of them. Though I understand the point about it being the apocalypse and no one would really carry books around...it's pretty cool that the option is there.] I dig it.

    Chopper Wreck

Both are true ;) Plus I think it's nice to add a bit of character to the world. The way I interpret it anyway. Not to mention it makes it more interesting to have some back story to a video I post. As opposed to starting a topic and just dropping the video in it hoping people will watch. Not that there is anything wrong with that, I just prefer adding a bit more to my posts...A lot of bits I guess.

    Abandoned Campsite

Whilst roaming the world a friend and I stumbled across a set of tents complete with a campfire. NOTE: Though these are the tents players could place in the mod, there was no action menu available for neither the tents nor the campfire. It was just a neat little static set we found that I thought was a cool touch. I'll put together a short story to tell the tale of what happened to these campers in a bit. For the fun of fan-fiction. Here is the very short video of our find.

    When Zeds Attack!

Damn yo. That's some crazy shit. Also, very cool intro! The other day a friend and I had an encounter in the woods. At first we saw one zed wandering in the forest. We thought it was odd and decided it must've followed a player out there. So we nonchalantly walked up to kill it when out of nowhere we got swarmed. Two more popped up from behind us then another two came running into the fray. Needless to say we were taken by surprise and completely confused. We survived the encounter and continued, but we were still perplexed at how it happened. It was very fun and exhilarating and hopefully these types of engagements will continue. The woods are no longer safe!

    Abandoned Campsite

Thanks for the kind words and for taking the time to read the story. I enjoy writing these, and it's encouraging when I know people have enjoyed them. Thanks again. Also, I didn't know there were multiple sightings across the land. That's very cool. I think crimson may be onto something. Maybe using the fireplace without having to build one. Or maybe...and I'm only speculating...they may become loot spawns. Perhaps spawning somewhat randomly...like the same way the chopper wrecks worked before. Interesting indeed.

    Abandoned Campsite

[This story is written for fun and by no means indicates any events actual or imagined within the Day Z universe.] A cold, biting wind was blowing from the east. Mikael turned to Alexei "We must make camp! It is getting dark!" Mikael said. "It's only a little further Mikael...maybe one more kilometer!" Alexei responded. The wind howled like a wolf hunting for prey. "What if we get there and it is overrun like Balota? Then what?! We'll be wandering through the dark bumping into whatever may be waiting for us" said Mikael. "Fine. We'll make camp by those bushes" Alexei conceded. Mikael had been the pragmatic one of the duo. The pair pitched the tents they had been given from the CDF (Chernarussian Defense Force) and chopped up two of the nearby trees to use for firewood. Alexei and Mikael had joined the CDF a month before the world went mad, a day they referred to as "day zero". They became good pals when they realized they had a mutual friend, and were hardly seen apart after that. A few days before "day zero" they had been transferred to Balota to help setup an aid station for "war games". At least that's what they were told. They had been relaxing, playing cards by the barracks when the first terrible shriek could be heard. They, along with the rest of the off duty troops, made their way towards the yelling. It was coming from the aid station. It was absolute chaos. Some of the troops went to help the others in the aid station, including Alexei. Mikael sensed something peculiar was afoot and stopped Alexei. That's when shots rang out from the aid station. It looked as though the fire was indiscriminate. Guards were shooting anyone that came within a few feet of them. The pair headed back to their barrack and gathered their supplies, including two tents. They decided to head north towards the main airstrip of Chernarus. Hopefully they would find safety in the sky. Wandering from town to town the two searched for friendly faces. However, each town they came to was full of either corpses, madmen, or both. By the time they reached Vybor it was already near evening. They wanted so badly to reach the main airfield, so they continued north until a cold, biting wind blew in from the east. The fire crackled and danced between the weary comrades. The air was thick with the tension and stress of the days events. "You know...I was about to be promoted to corporal." Mikael whispered trying to lighten the mood. "What?" Alexei sounded annoyed and slightly confused. "Me...a corpor..." the snapping of a twig interrupted Mikael's attempt at cheerfulness. "What was that?!" Alexei exclaimed in a loud whisper. "Fuck if I know!...How could I know?!" Mikael shot back. They stared into the darkness for a moment before turning to one another. "I'll check it out" Alexei whispered. "Fuck no...fire is safe. Like a bubble of safety. As long as we're by the fire we'll see whatever comes" Mikaels voice grew slightly louder. "Dude...it was probably a rabbit or some such. We could use the meat and cut off the feet for luck" Alexei was getting excited. Mikael looked dumbfounded "sooo...you want to wander into the dark to hunt a rabbit so you can cut off its feet for good luck?" Mikael said aloud. "I'll be right back" Alexei said as he got up and traipsed into darkness. "Alexei!...Ale...god damnit." Mikael stood up to try and get a better view. A minute passed...followed by another. Another twig snapped as Mikael stood vigilante by the fire. "Alexei?!"...no response. Mikael realized he had to make a choice. To go find his friend, or hide out in his tent until morning. He knew, however, that there was no choice at all. He would follow his friend into hell if he had to. By now the whole world resembled hell anyway and so he took a deep breath and slowly trekked into the unknown. Stories have been told by some about a pair of undead soldiers wandering the woods between Vybor and the north west airfield. Some even claim to have seen one of them gripping a rabbits foot, refusing to let go. Who knows if the stories are true...what is known is that their camp exists. Some say it's cursed and that no fire can be lit, no matter how hard you try. Heed my warning. If you dare to spend a night there...make sure you take a flashlight...and extra batteries. [That turned out a bit longer than I intended. There are clues to the location within the story however. Happy hunting.]

    A Wrecked Mind

The Final Moments of a Wrecked Mind It was not but five minutes ago I had the world at my fingertips, but now...I can hardly feel them. My hand feels cold. The wooden grip of my magnum is slippery. It takes all of my strength to keep the revolver in my hand. My legs outstretched in front of me, bloodied and torn, I sit in the corner...waiting. Waiting to be reborn a monster. This is the cruel hand that fate has dealt to me. Around me are the corpses of two of my friends. Plus another rotted corpse beside me. It appears to have been decaying for weeks and what skin it does have is tough and leathery. The smell is putrid. I think I see a notepad on the coffee table. Excite rushes over me. There is a pen in the pocket of my re-killed companion. Grabbing the pen I scoot over to the table. "I had been on the road for days trying to get back to my apartment near Chernogorsk. I've had to do...things...along the way. Things I am not proud of. I'm sure whoever finds this will understand what I mean. I'm sorry for what I've done...and all it did was prolong the inevitable fate of all of us who dare to continue live. How dare we not step aside for the newest evolution of mankind. We cannot reclaim the throne. It is gone forever. Lost to the beasts that roam the streets...and lost to those who still live. Our souls were ripped from us, taking our humanity with it. Indeed there are monsters outside, but they are nothing compared to the monster within." I set the pen down and lean back against the wall. Can you see the darkness creeping in? I feel around for my revolver. I can hardly see a thing now. The rugged texture of the revolver handle is soothing. I can hear footsteps now. Anxiety sets in...all I can think about is how badly I want the revolver in my hand. The footsteps draw near...something is in the hallway. I can barely lift the revolver. Wait...are those voices I hear? Real speaking voices? I force every ounce of strength into my arm and hand slowly pulling the revolver up. "Someone there?" A voice calls from right around the corner. I can only muster a short, guttural grunt. I can see a silhouette. A little silhouette...of a man. The revolver slips from my hand. It appears the man lowers whatever weapon he had. I take a deep breath. Contorting my mouth, I'm able to beg for what I want most. "Release me..." The vague shape hesitates...is he raising his weapon? I can barely whisper... "come sweet death...I am waiting for your br..._____________________________________________________

    A Wrecked Mind

Thanks! I did not know that. In my head I assumed ...a couple things actually. I was thinking that it was the standard "you're bit, you're infected" and eventually you'd turn. I also meant for the character to know that he would turn because of his experiences out in the world. Like he had witnessed his pals reanimating, but reading back I notice I didn't specify that very well. Great! Thanks for the input. :D ...I get that. I also like to find a sites where the primary platform of communication is text...and just click around. Words are hella boring. Especially if there are way too many of them. In fact, one might argue that long stories are like the ArmA series. There is a shit ton of controls, mechanics, details about ballistics, multiple crew positions, BUTTONS...all sorts of stuff on a gigantic map. So for the fans that want something a little more like CoD...here is the condensed version. Enjoy! Yo dudes, I'm totally fucked up and dying. My big ass gun is super heavy. Oh, and there are dead people around. I'll write a note. "dear everyone, life sucks." I am SO gonna die, lol. I think I hear someone coming. Pew pew, I'm dead. :P

Thanks for checking out my Day Z inspired fan fiction. Thoughts, comments, criticism, praise, wisdom, spontaneous combustion are all welcomed and encouraged. [also: Beans for spotting the references!! Cheers]
  25. The gun was loaded. This is for the two guys who walked up on me and didn't shoot me...in fact they gave me a saline injection. Also, it's to show a variety of play styles I encountered during a 30 minutes session on a full public server at Elektrozavodsk. I don't remember the server name, nor did I catch their player names, but this video goes to show that's it's not always kill or be killed. If you see this. Cheers!
