Granted there are a lot of players who don't come to the boards at all, and people are going to keep doing how they do regardless...I'm curious to see where the board community averages on this topic. Personally I try to play with a more friendly approach (so shoot me....again) and I only ever engage if A) I'm engaged first, B) the assailant has already killed others, or C) the other person does not comply or is acting aggressively. Playing for an hour yesterday I ran from...where ever I had spawned to Berezino, unarmed, only to be shot dead by a guy who was going the opposite direction 400 meters away. Meaning he spotted me, took a shot, and hunted me down...even though we were a ways a part and traveling opposite directions. It's annoying, but that's gonna happen and I'm used to it. I guess the point of this thread is to see how many people go out of their way to kill others, and to try and understand the logic behind it. Again, try to be honest and if you do go out of your way to hunt people down please give some insight as to the reasoning behind your chosen gameplay style. The poll is not public, so if you don't want to chime in you can still vote. I don't want this to devolve into a flame war, so let's keep it civil. (That may be asking too much, but I have faith that our community is stronger than that)

First things first. This isn't a thread complaining or talking about current damage models. All those threads are...elsewhere, being how they be. Certainly no one would just read the title and nothing else. Now that that is out of the way, I'm curious to see where my fellow community members stand on this topic. As fans of Day Z and zombie lore in general...do you think that, in the future of course, there is a place for this well known flaw of the undead? Or should it be relegated to the movies. After all, this is still a game. Personally I'm of the mindset that any type of ammunition should be able to kill a zombie with one headshot. Some of you may remember the makarov and how weak and useless it seemed to feel. I think 9mm and up should be a one headshot kill. A .22 on the other hand...I don't know. I'll leave that up to you bullet junkies. I also think that most bladed melee weapons should be a one or two hit kill, to the head. Maybe a few more swings with blunt weapons. And finally, I think that we should leave the headshots to the movies. Meaning that torso shots are still able to take down a shambling horde. Obviously it would take a bit more to kill a zed below the head. I am for this option as it makes the learning curve less steep. I think it would be cool to be able to join a "headshot only" server though, so long as it's optional. I'd be all over that shit...but I'm a lore junkie :P What do you guys think?
-
Seems like an even split for options 1 and 3 and an overwhelming majority in favor of firearms headshots. Got some good numbers for this poll. Any other suggestions or ideas? Should bladed weapons be one-two hit kills? How many hits would you imagine for blunt objects?

I always enjoyed the comic book red they used for the 'blood'. Actually one of the reasons I prefer 'Day' is because of the more 'realistic' make up effects. I actually have a book by Tom Savini where he details his tricks of the trade. It's called Bizarro, it's pretty good. Sidenote: I wrote a fan fiction story based on the chopper wreck west of the wrecked cargo ship. It's basically a giant homage to 'Dawn' I could go on for ages about this stuff. Quit luring me back here! :P

It seems a lot of people are still having this issue. Including myself. I decided to login to experimental and the good news is that the stuttering is not as bad as I get in the current stable branch. The bad news is, there is still some stuttering going on. There are a few quick fixes around the forum, but I think the best bet would be to wait for the bugs to get ironed out. I know it sucks, but it's the safest option that doesn't involve messing with game files are cpu priorities. That's just me though. If you want to you can search for 'fps fix' or 'memory leak' or something along those lines and you should find a few posts related to the quick fixes. Good luck.

I stop playing and tell myself I beat the game. Then I come back confused with gear and totally lost. So I run around looking for trouble so I can start fresh again.

Way back in mod there was a guy we played with for quite awhile. He was a regular on our TS and we tended to group up in game to head north. One day he meets up with us and we spot a chopper wreck. This was when they were first introduced and still kinda buggy. So we're looking all over for gear and suddenly he pipes up and says "hey, you can access the gear if you lay down and look up at it". Naturally my mate and I go prone and start messing about when out of nowhere my screen goes black. I say "wtf" in TS followed by my mate who was consequently killed saying "wtf". Then our "pal" talks over TS saying "I wanted your DMR...don't trust anyone" and he logged. Needless to say he was banned from the TS and our friends list. We had a decent group too and he threw it away for 30 minutes with a DMR. What a twit. But anyway...yeah...people are dicks sometimes.

I couldn't find a pic of one with a sidecar, however! Invasion 1944 has the BMW motorcycle with or without a sidecar. AND a mounted MG34. [sorry, we're going off topic.] Hell yeah. A mall large enough to drive a motorcycle through. If possible a tweaked sound system so we could hear the roaring echo. In the 'Dawn' commentary they mention how epicly loud it was whilst filming that scene. EDIT: Bad ass...(MG42 mount) ok this time I'm done for real
-
Now I want sidecars! [sidenote: I took a break when everyone and their brother started releasing modded versions of the mod :P] [other sidenote: did ofp:resistance have sidecars? I remember motorcycles being introduced and I want to say there were sidecars...but I can't remember for the life of me.]
-
A massive sprawling urban city. It would murder our computers, but be cool as all fucks ever.
-
I can't wait for motorcycles so I can start my biker gang ala Dawn. :) [EDIT: I just remember there was a mall-esque building on...a different map. Epoch I want to say...but I may or may not be mistaken] [EDIT 2: It was Taviana. I can't find decent pics, but it was a two story mall. Surely someone knows what I'm on about.]

Oh, my bad. I misunderstood. Yeah it's newish...well it's been around for a little while I believe. Not sure exactly how long though.

The loss of color is related to your blood loss. If you get a saline transfusion your color should go back to normal. That is odd, but I've read about others that have had the same problem. I'm not sure if it has been resolved and I don't know which thread exactly to point you to...but if you search the forum I think you'll be able to find a solution. I think...otherwise let us know. I'm sure someone knows a fix.

True but, and I'm playing devil's advocate, in the mod we had dozens of zeds swarming us if we made the slightest of sounds. The zeds were fast and vicious. When they behave as they did in mod, I'd imagine headshots only being quite difficult and more often than not people would die to zeds rather than players. (not being devil's advocate...I'm totally down with fast, violent, headshot only zeds :))

[Poll] Should zombies only die if shot/axed in the head?
savini replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
Funny that...It's still an active thread with some decent discussion going on as well. On topic...Like I said in the other thread...I still like the headshot only thing. I'd say why, but I already have. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/173802-weapon-damage-and-the-undead/ -
I usually have to log onto a different server. That does the trick for me. If you log into a different server and spawn properly...when you go back to your clan server is it still "dead" screen?
-
what do you guys do when you meet zombies without weapons?
savini replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
I invite them over for dinner...they tend to oblige me every...single...time -
No no, we're talking one shot to the head and if that should be the only way to kill them or if multiple chest wounds would do it.
-
Well the point is to gain some insight into those that go out of their way to kill others...so yes, I am trying to find the logic. I suppose I failed to consider some other options, which I can add here in a bit, but I don't think it's narrow minded...just not as well thought out. I don't have all the answers, that's why I come to you guys. I'll fix the poll shortly, thanks for the feedback.
-
I like where your brain is headed. I think that would add a cool new dimension to the game. I'm for it.
-
I just thought of something from a 'mechanic' standpoint. If zombies became a headshot kill with all firearms, would it work by adding more power to the firearms? or would one have to lower the threshold of the zed? I hope that makes sense...in my head it does. So what I'm getting at is how it affects other interactions. So if you up the damage a pistol can do...does that then transfer to pvp? And would it therefore muck with the ballistics? Or if you drop the health of the zed, does that therefore make them much easier to kill with say...a baseball bat? It seems that there would have to be some kind of balance...tough choices. Obviously I have a lot to learn when it comes to development decisions. What do you guys think, or which would you choose if it were up to you?

You have to equip it on the slot bar, then hit the number. To turn the pages you press page up and a little 'next page' option appears at the bottom. I just found a copy of 'Dracula'...I'm gonna get some food and drinks and hide in the forest with it :)

Backstory: My pal Hal and I had just logged in to a hardcore server to mess around and try it out. We discover we're not to far from one another and start heading to a meeting point. Suddenly Hal tells me he has a fresh spawn chasing him. I tell Hal to come to me since I had an axe and could vanquish his tag along. A few moments later I notice I have a fresh spawn hot on my trail trying to knock me out as well. Things get comical as we reach eachother and the bambis turn on one another. It should be noted that a few minutes after this encounter the 'girl' survivor caught up to us to have another go. Needless to say it was an unfortunate end to 'her' life as I buried the hatchet...so to speak. It should also be noted that a bit later we arrived in Berezino only to be killed by a couple of players wielding m4's. Such is life in Chernarus.

That sounds awesome! Link meh!

Very nice. I'm still hoping for a writers forum. For fan-fic, AAR's, and the like. Now I feel compelled to write again, your story is a worthy adversary ;)
