    PLEASE RESET ME!

I found a fix. I haven't had this issue, so I haven't had to use it, but it should work. "If you're still dealing with the death loop issue even after the patch, here's the fix. You go to Documents < DayZ and delete your profile information. Con: You will have to set your controls up all over again. Pro: You can once again play the game. Cheers" I just copy pasted from a steam discussion, let us know if that wo*BANG* oh shit...I just shot marvin in the face!! damnit
  2. It seems every couple days...sometimes hours there is a new thread about "Why KoS" or "I'm turning to the dark side" or "why play friendly?" and so on, and on, and on again. This thread will explain why both sides and the grey area between are all valid and necessary. Firstly I will state that I choose the friendly route. I play friendly because I like the challenge. Especially the mental chess one plays as two survivors first encounter each other. Sometimes it's just a quick shootout, others it's a feeling out process where two survivors are communicating and paying attention to each others movements and words in order to determine whether or not the other is a threat. As I said, this is my playstyle and it's how I enjoy the game. Now then, let's talk about the KoS playstyle. It's not my style, but I think it's a pretty basic concept we can all grasp. You are out surviving, doing your thing when all of a sudden you catch sight of another player. Whether or not he is armed is irrelevant as he is a threat to your own survival be it that he finds a weapon, or he starts taking food that you yourself could use. So you hunt him down and take out the threat. It's a completely valid way of playing. I may not agree with it, but I will never say you can't do that. I'll just call you an asshole and be done with it :P. There is also a grey area in between, where some players do a little of both, or switch it up. Whatever playstyle you choose is perfectly valid. If you want to run through town naked with an axe then do it. The thing that makes Day Z a great game is not the zombies, or the gear. It's the concept. The idea of being dropped in an apocalypse scenario with all the tools you need for survival and the freedom to live out your apocalyptic fantasy in however a way you see fit. The excitement comes from the interaction with other players, be it KoS or friendly. Take 'Project Zomboid' for example. A great game with the same concept. The only thing is that in the current stable build (as of the day of this post) there are no other survivors...not even the AI survivors from before.* So you are dropped in a world with zombies and the tools to survive. You build your fortress and then what. You just live. Arguably that is the point of the game, but let me tell ya...it gets boring after awhile. Logging in to feed your character. This happens in Day Z to an extent when people have all the gear they want and decide not to log in for fear of losing it. Now you either completely stop playing, or you decide you want a fresh start. You want a fresh start because you enjoy the thrill of looking for gear and surviving what or whomever you should encounter. The thrill of the game is that hunt, and it's what keeps us coming back for more. It's essential. What makes the game thrilling and exciting? When does your heart start racing and adrenaline start pumping? That's right. It all starts when we see or run into another player. Not knowing what is going to happen in the next few moments. The only way to achieve that is to have both ends of the spectrum and everything in between. We make the game fun for eachother. KoS players have someone to shoot at, and friendlies have someone to shoot back at...or run away from...or toward...whatever suits you. The simple truth is this. Neither side is going away. Let me reiterate. KoS will never go away, and neither will the 'heroes'. Which is why when threads pop up solely to bash one side or the other is stupid and redundant. As well as arguing for or against one side or the other. It's all futile and childish. I'm not saying 'come together...right now'. I'm saying that both sides are here and neither is going to stop. You must accept that all playstyles are valid. You may not like a certain style of play, but that is irrelevant. We make the game more entertaining for eachother. I believe our community, whatever disagreements we may have, is smart enough to realize that both sides are valid. This is an appeal to the more rational minded of you to stop with the nonsense. The whining from both sides is sickening and makes the community look like a bunch of six year olds throwing tantrums. I know there are many like minded people who accept all playstyles. The rest of you would be wise to understand that any way you or someone else chooses to play is perfectly legitimate. Unless it's cheating of course...I think we can all agree that cheating is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by either side. Thank you for reading, sorry it's a bit long. -Rhodes tl;dr Try again. This is a forum where the primary means of communication is text. Learn to read or gtfo. *Project Zomboid has plans to reimplement AI survivors and is currently beta testing multiplayer.
  3. Well...semantics aside, my point is that no matter how anyone plays it's all legitimate and arguing or whining about someone elses playstyle is absurd and redundant. [EDIT: Forgot that last bit.]
  4. Yum! I hear you, but using the labels helps get the point across. If I say KoS and Hero then it allows the reader to identify a couple of playstyles easily. Just as you would fall into the grey area in between. Well...we all have a few shades of grey really, but like I said...we all know what I mean when I say hero or bandit or friendly or whatever. Same here! I used to go to houses I looted, pulling a zed train with me, then turning on the oven and letting the house burn. I kinda miss the simplicity of that map and the overall graphics of those days. oh you

The sign reads "Memorial Tree" Those signs are all over the place though...have been since ArmA 2. Nice find with the geoglyph though.

    Laughing at KOS failures.

I had my own near death from a KoS player just the other day. I was wandering around Krasnostav, gathering the usual supplies, when I decided I would head down the coast and hand out food and see what kind of trouble I could get into. I got through Berezino well enough, ran into a fresh spawn as I continued south and gave him some beans and a bottle of water. We parted and I continued my journey and for awhile it was peaceful. The sounds of waves crashing and that crisp ocean air calming the nerves. As I approach Solnichniy I can see someone moving from house to house. I give him a once over and notice he only has a fire extinguisher on his back. I approach empty handed, mosin on my back, and call out "Hey pal. Take it easy, I'm not here to hurt anyone." He stops in the street and starts typing. At this point we're both in the street making our opening remarks. As he's typing I take a moment to look around the area, and boy did I get lucky here. Just as I look left I spot another player right as he peeks his head out, rifle ready to fire. My fingers instinctively know what to do as I turn my body and start side stepping to the nearest cover while pulling out my rifle and yelling over direct "whoa! Easy now", but before I could finish my sentence he took his shot. He completely misses both myself and the fresh spawn. Now my heart starts racing and the shooter and I are on the same side of the street. The fresh spawn flees and I take a moment to collect myself. (I should note that this took place on the experimental build, so it was a bit more tense dealing with the constantly respawning zed threat) At this point the zeds are getting riled up and are moving around. There are only a few buildings between me and the shooter. He is closer to the hill and trees than me. I have a PU scope on my rifle and decide that it would be best to put some distance between us as I would have a slight advantage in that regard. I head across the street, attracting the unwanted attention of a few zeds. I pull out my axe and dispatch two of them before switching back to my rifle. The zeds are kinda like tracers in the sense that they will give away your position. I peek around the house I'm hiding behind and still have no eyes on my assailant. I break for the treeline, putting space and more importantly some nice, large trees between us. I maneuver around a bit and find a nice comfortable spot between a couple trees. From here I can see a good portion of the town and all of the open field that is further north, and so I wait. A few minutes pass when what do I spy with my little eye? The little bastard sneaking around town moving north. He is going building to building and almost constantly moving. I keep watch and wait for that most opportune moment to strike. As he moves from house to house I start to estimate the range. He's about 200 to 250 meters away. I make the proper scope adjustments and keep track of him when suddenly he stops just outside a house. He is peeking around the corner looking north. I take a breath and squeeze the trigger *BANG*. I bolt another round into the chamber and peer through the sight to see if I had scored a hit. It appeared I had. It looked like the round impacted just underneath the armpit, tearing through flesh and lungs. He was down for the count. I looked towards the north where the shooter was looking and spot a fresh spawn ducked in a bush. He was headed south and most certainly to his imminent death had I not taken out the menace. Whether or not that fresh spawn was friendly or a bandit I do not know. Either way he had free reign over the freshly deceased fellows gear. I packed up and headed inland, happy in knowing that I had rid that small section of Chernarus of one bad dude. For the moment at least. It was a good time. Also a side note. I approve of all playstyles. Though I may not like the KoS method, it is still a perfectly valid way of playing. I choose the friendly route as I find it more enjoyable, but we need both ends of the spectrum and everything in between. It's what makes each encounter different and exciting.

    Prison Castle

It reminds me of the castle mission in Hidden & Dangerous 2... That was a good game. *wanders off all nostalgic*

    DayZ [QUESTION]

It runs on a modified ArmA 2 engine. It's actually kinda a cross between 2 and 3. Also, it's important to be aware that the current alpha state of the game has bugs and glitches. Even users with high end rigs have had frame rate issues in cities. It's still playable however, just not as optimized as it will be in the future. As development continues it'll get stamped out, but just know that you may experience similar issues in this phase of the game.

    Leather Jacket

True. Experimental and stable have separate hives, so when you go back to stable your character will be just as you left him....provided some random bug wipes your character.

    DayZ [QUESTION]

Sec... Yes, you're right. Just DayZ it says. We shall see you in the new and improved Chernarus soon.

    DayZ [QUESTION]

You can purchase it on the steam store. First you'll have to download steam, it's free. http://store.steampowered.com/ Create an account and all that jazz, then you can search for Day Z Standalone. Purchase, download, and play! Have fun! [EDIT: Forgot to specify, you do not need ArmA at all anymore. It is it's own separate game now hence the 'standalone' bit.]
  17. wait...I meant I agree with the PvE not being necessary.

    Player Stats

We used to have a stat page on the front page for DayZ. It always seemed to run really slow, but basically you could search for your name and it would pull up a few things like: How long your current character has been alive, your longest life, meters ran...so on and so forth. If those are the type of stats you mean. As far as skill point system...I've heard a few ideas, but not many I like. I much prefer the 'we are as skilled as we are' route. As in, nobody would get an aim bonus and such. Keep that in the RPG's I say. That's just me though.

    Accidental shootings

Sometimes I'll go through towns calling out. It's gotten me into a few firefights, but it's also saved a few lives. Accidentally running into another player stirs that fight or flight and so naturally, in tight quarters and having someone accidentally invade your space like that...the first instinct is to defend yourself. I met a few decent dudes the other day by calling out in a town. They'd respond and after a bit of back and forth, we're trading and making runs together. It's a dangerous tactic no doubt, but I've used it to good effect in many cases.
  20. I'm with Grimey. Though I choose to play 'friendly' and do not like KoS, doesn't mean I'd rather PvE. That'd be boring as all hells ever. Though I don't agree with your playstyle, I love that we are all able to do as we please. If there were no KoS players...I'd have nothing to do. At this stage anyhow. The differing playstyles is what makes every interaction 'fun'. Granted getting killed isn't fun, but...you know what I'm saying. I think most people that dislike KoS also understand that it is a valid way of playing, and makes for a more exciting game for all.

Would you play a game with real permadeath?

There was an ios game like that called...you onl...wait it was One Life to Live...I think. It's a basic platformer where you just had to make the jumps. If you died...that was it. You'd have to delete it because it was wasted space at that point. I played it...messed up the first jump because I hadn't a feel for the control. 20 min download for 15 seconds of "fun" meh. Not into it.

    FAO Orange Raincoat Lovers

I like the description. I'd like to see that army. (I know it's a blanket description for all boonies, but still. Humorous hat is...) Yo Gecko! I found an orange raincoat the other day and took a photo for ya.
  23. lol I hadn't even made that connection. You have a point, but personally...I'm indifferent to it. I made myself a small Russian guide book awhile ago...I think it's still around here. *wanders off*
