The most underrated City on the Map
KarmaCoin replied to Gandalf the White (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Agreed. Zelenogorsk rocks. Its got everything in abundance and very few people mill around there for long. Most only loot the barracks on their way north so even when someone has already come through there is a lot left. -
Damn, the building placement is really close

Use your imagination to fill in the missing details and then decide how many people would be alive after 5 years in the scenario you imagined. -

No, its a hypothetical question. -
I believe it does protect the contents somewhat. What I really mean by make the medkit more distinct is give us a reason to use the medkit over the protector case. currently they are the same size and have an equal number of slots. The med kit can only hold medical supplies and provides no protection to the items inside making the protector case completely better. If it replaces the backpack then no one would use it because you can already put med supplies in a backpack but you can't put other supplies in a medkit.

I suppose that depends on how it spreads. Its possible some people would be genetically immune. -

He is actually correct. Despite a majority of people believing that gun violence is getting worse in america it is actually on the decline. "Firearm-related homicides in the US dropped from 18,253 homicides in 1993 to 11,101 in 2011," according to a report by the federal Bureau of Justice Statistics, "and nonfatal firearm crimes dropped from 1.5 million victimizations in 1993 to 467,300 in 2011. meanwhile in 2011 32,367 people died in car accidents in the US, making it about 3 times more likely you would die from a car than a gun in the US. Check out the article below for a more in depth analysis on gun crime in america. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/05/07/gun-crime-drops-but-americans-think-its-worse/2139421/ -
I agree that you can already carry much more than is required however I think a better approach would be to continue allowing the ability to hoard but give it drawbacks. One way to do this is to assign weight to items and reduced player movement speed based on how much weight you are carrying. I'm sure there are many other suggestions on this that have already been posted as well. I think it is important to keep that hoarding ability in the game because hoarding is a zombie survival strategy that many people would utilize regardless of its debatable real life effectiveness.

Maybe, I think it is more likely they would just server hop more.

Not sure how I feel when it comes to game play but as far as realism goes, guns and ammo would likely be pretty easy to obtain. According to the 2007 Small Arms Survey there are 875 million known firearms and probably many more that we do not know about because many countries and militaries do not report them. It is also estimated that there are around 500 billion to 1 trillion rounds of ammunition currently in existence. That's enough to kill everyone in the world 100 times over. And that was in 2007, 14 billion rounds were produced every year since then with only about half having been fired. With only a handful of people (say 10 million) surviving that leaves 87.5 guns per per person and 100 thousand rounds per person. So even in the event that much of it is used or destroyed, there is still going to be an absurd amount of it laying around somewhere. If you know where to look, chances are you wont have much trouble finding guns and ammo.

I'd be down for this.

Sorry to do this but I need some more votes for my statistics to be accurate. so... bump -
I mentioned in the OP that they should not remove the current buttons when adding a multi-function key. So people who prefer the advantage of slightly faster prone over less key bindings will still be able to have a single button prone. Also the multi-function key I described in the OP is pretty common now in FPS games and doesn't have the release issue you are talking about. Releasing does not cause standing, you must release and press the key again to crouch, and then again to stand. Also, It is typically implemented with a 100-200 ms hold so it really doesn't add a substantial amount of time to going prone anyways. I probably lose at least 100 ms by having it bound to a harder to reach key than c in the current setup. Z is a tough reach for me sometimes.

I could care less about beans. I post suggestions because I want to see them in the game. The reason I'm saying you should make a new thread for the arma 3 stances is because I believe that idea will get more attention from doing so and possibly get added. Less people are likely to come to this thread looking for that topic since the OP was about something different. Also if you scroll up you can see that I have already added my two sense about the arma 3 stances.

I've suspected bugs with falling dmg calculations in the past but just now my legs broke while barely moving on totally flat indoor surface. I reported this as a bug already but I was wondering if this has been happening to anyone else?

I would like to suggest more focus on features players actually notice
KarmaCoin replied to alleycat's topic in Suggestions
I would like to suggest you post this in the suggestion forums where it belongs. Furthermore I disagree because the game is in alpha the focus should be on under the hood stuff. Adding new content is significantly easier and less buggy once the under the hood development is completed. Its also totally acceptable to continue adding content after release, where as under the hood changes are less acceptable after release. -

There are a lot of guns out there, but not quite that many. U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies. Thats around 90 guns for every 100 people in the US. And only 9 for every 100 in the rest of the world. So perhaps the US would fair better than the rest of the world? -
I'm thinking something like that may have happened. Just curious if it has happened to anyone else.

A third thing that would probably increase the death toll is the fact that unlike the black death and Spanish flu the zombie pandemic turns its victims into a flesh craving psychopath rather than a feeble sick person. Disposal of corpses was an extremely difficult undertaking during the black death, just imagine how much more chaotic it would be if those corpses were running around eating people. -

Before DayZ I didn't think this. I thought people would be much more open to helping each other and surviving as a group. Playing DayZ has made me reconsider this idea because of my own actions. When I play DayZ I try to avoid running into people out of fear they will kill me and steal my can opener. And when I do run into people I get trigger happy out of fear they will kill me and steal my can opener. I see now how hard it would be to trust a stranger once all the "barriers" like the law and police are gone. -

To clarify on the geographic location, I mean out of the entire world population of 7 billion. As for the type of apocalypse, I mean a zombie one. As for how the zombie apocalypse is spread/started use your own best judgement of how you think it would happen. -

I have a feeling that answer might be popular. -
Think about this. There is probably an average of at least 10 kitchen knives per house in every house in America. That makes for a total of 3 billion kitchen knives nation wide. With only a handful of people still alive (lets say 1 million) each person would have to loot 3000 knives in order for all the knives to have been looted. In the insanely unlikely event that this did somehow happen, the knives do not simply remove themselves from existence when they are looted. People have to put them somewhere. So it would follow that somewhere there is a house with a stack of kitchen knives 10 feet tall. And yes, I am aware the game is in Russia, but my point is finding a knife in the apocalypse would be stupid easy because there are considerably more knives on the planet then there would be survivors.
