Love the idea, even if people only end up using it to musically t-bag you which I doubt. I had a guy come up to me once holding a book and quoting the from the movie "The Book of Eli" So I'm sure people will do all sorts of creative stuff with musical instruments.

Can someone link to where it was mentioned that this is a bug? I would like to read about it.
-
I have! But to no avail, small falls and sometimes just walking seem to shatter my ridiculously fragile leg bones.
-
Haha, we actually do this sometimes.
-
I was thinking of suggesting this as well. The only thing I would add is have two buttons. Log out and exit. Log out does what you described, exit does the current functionality.

Not being able to choose a color somehow kinda defeats the purpose though because then everyone still ends up wearing roughly the same color. Adding a dye kit or something is acceptable if you think it breaks the immersion to much.

I understand the desire to have a more friendly world but I'm not sure that this idea would result in one. Sounds like your just giving players more things to kill each other over. Me and my friends certainly wouldn't let anyone else get near these new sites because we would want all the loot to ourselves. If a friendly world is what you want It may be a better to allow servers to turn friendly fire off. I would never play on those servers though because I feel that the player encounters are what make this game so great and not being able to shoot each other destroys that magic.

True, I've never actually made an improvised backpack for just this reason. I always have a much better pack by the time I find the materials. I hear some people prefer the improvised backpack though because it has the lowest profile so its hard to see when prone.

It's true that this idea originated from consoles having less input, but I don't think it is a dumb idea. It simplifies the key mappings from 3 keys to 1 at the cost of one fifth of a second when going prone. With a single key for the three stances, the z and x keys are available for other uses like range up/down That's your opinion. I understand that pressing one key is faster than holding one for 200ms. I think the difference is negligible though and the issue I more often run into is hitting the wrong key. With three keys I often end up crouching when I want to go prone or hitting stand when I'm already standing but want to go to crouch. 1 Key is super simple and by far my preference. Especially since it opens up z and x to be bound to something else useful like range up and range down. Additionally there is no reason to remove the current keys when adding a new multi-funciton binding. That way people who prefer 3 separate keys can have 3 separate keys and people like me who prefer 1 key can have one key.

Medical system for DayZ Part 2: Emergency care for other players
KarmaCoin replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Right, because I prefer my video games to play themselves. Why not automate all of DayZ that way you can just watch instead of playing? Its a game not a movie and I want to play it. Adding this type of control over medical application would add serious immersion and value to the game. I love this idea and hope something like it finds it's way into production. -

Unless you were say genetically immune... -
It already is implemented well, tons of FPS games already use the exact key that I'm describing. lag and desync effect the current key setup as well and thus do not change the difference in time between the two configurations. And again, this isn't some new idea, pretty much every FPS I've played in the last 10 years that allowed you to go prone used this type of button. Perhaps I'm doing a poor job of explaining it? I'm sure you have played a game with this type of button.

Currently the medkit and the small protector case both have 6 slots but the medkit is limited to only holding medical supplies while the protector case can hold anything and protects items inside form damage. I think a nice way to distinguish the medkit from the protector case would be to increase it's capacity to 8 or 10 slots. This would make the medkit much more useful especially once some of the planned features like heart attacks and disease are out because we will want to carry more medical supplies including defibs and anitbotics. Alternatively you could also decrease the number of slots in the protector case to 4 and make its only advantage that it protects items from damage.

CPR would be cool. I think the greater idea of being able to manage a player's vitals after death would be awesome. When a buddy gets dropped, you first remove the threat or drag him to safety. Then one person can begin CPR while another removes bullets with pliers, uses a sowing kit to stitch wounds then bandage it all up. Another player can be using saline bags or blood bags to get fluids back into the downed player. It would be an intense and immersive addition to the game that is also very useful.

Why not just have the hands up emote make your character lootable? Seems like the easiest way to do this to me.
-
A bit complicated but at least you can see everything at once rather than having to scroll. Might be able to just shrink the icons in the current setup and get the same see everything at once effect. Also, I think I saw the devs mention somewhere that they have plans to improve the inventory system. Haven't seen any specifics though. So hopefully they've thought of something cool.
-
I did not. Can you explain what this is? Looks cool, I'm just not sure what it is showing me. Is it the time spent in each location? Still don't think it is really worth the effort. I do like the idea of displaying the easy to track things like time alive, food eaten, zeds killed, etc. I don't think those things would be that hard to add and I would love to see them at the end of a characters life.

Poll: How many people would survive the apocalypse?

I'd agree that a zombie apocalypse would get crushed if the only way to spread the disease was through biting. What do you think about other scenarios like an air born infection similar to the flu? An air born disease scenario seems far more dangerous to me. -
Tracking a players path throughout their existence would be a tough technical challenge because some players live for hundreds of hours. I don't think that part of you're suggestion would be worth the effort required. Just displaying how long your character survived would be much easier and is something I'd love to see as well.
-
In the current state of the game I'd agree. But upcoming changes will give us reason to hold onto things like water purification tablets, antibiotics, and defibs which are 2x2 slots. Furthermore the first aid kit can completely be replaced by a protector case which has the same number of slots but also allows you to carry more than just med supplies and protects the items inside. I suppose medkits could also be made more valuable by decreasing the number of slots in the protector case to 4

But also cause a lot of collateral damage without accomplishing much in terms of resolving the disaster. I think it is much more likely the military would take a disaster relief role rather than a combat role. Providing medical aid, food, water, shelter and protection to survivors while protecting the resources and supply lines required to work towards a solution to the infection would probably be the primary strategy of the military. The assumed offensive role of search and destroy exposes the military to increased risk of infection and spends vital resources on something that does little to advance towards a permanent solution. In short. Missiles can kill zombies but they can't cure disease. -

Very helpful. Might have to try the experimental branch out now that they have zombies respawning -
Why am I shooting the ground while prone?
KarmaCoin replied to sweaper's topic in New Player Discussion
I think it is a bug. I've had it happen while crouched. Usually after having just had the problem while prone. -
When you paint it black you can then add green paint to it to make it camo. same if you paint it green first then add black.
