As a fresh spawn, how do you deal with Zombies since the latest Patch?
Demonica replied to Demonica's topic in New Player Discussion
Have you fired a gun lately? Have you noticed that doing that may get you swarmed? How much ammo do you have for all of those guns? -.- -
I am not saying that the current Zeds aren't even worse than before. And I wasn't talking about specific people here. I have mostly played the game the same way, survival comes first etc. It was just a theory that some people are complaining because they played geared more towards PvP than actual Survival. Which in return gave them trouble because all of a sudden a Zed hit will cause you to bleed. I absolutely agree that Zeds are buggy, laggy, spawning above and beyond when and however they please.

So, as a fresh spawn, I find... say... a can of tuna and a soda. I eat / drink all of it. How long will that last me before I am "Extremely hungry / starving"? I looked at Merino's vid's but there doesn't really seem to be a timeline there in general. I know you only lose a fraction of the energy you consume from any food / soda when you are idle / prone / whatever as long as you're not moving. What about a crouching run? How much do you lose sprinting for .. say... 1 kilometer? Are there any in depth analysis of this? I'm going into total survivor mode but that would be essential to know, if I wanna do it right. Thanks guys :-)

Nope, sorry to disappoint. My latest style was sporting a cowboy hat, but it got munched on by Zeds, so I had to resort to a banana. Uhm, I mean Bandana... ^^ *runs around with a banana on head* Wheeee :-)
-
i think I understand why so many people are complaining (there it is again, that word!). Most of them (Due to having nothing else to do before this latest patch) never actually thought of getting enough survval items like bandages, rags and food and water together to be prepared for a case like this patch now has put before us. They were so into PvP, that all their backpacks were stuffed with ammo and guns instead of first aid items. All of a sudden they don't get enough PvP because the Zeds are "in the way" of playing the game they have become so used to. They just don't know how to handle the sudden and for some even dramatic change that has taken place. Bash me all you want, but doesn't that sound like a nice theory?

If you die of food poisoning depends mainly on two things: Your Hunger / Thirst / level and your health / energy / blood level. If you are starving or dying of dehydration, eating a rotten fruit my get your hunger into the yellow again but it may kill you if you are starving, since you are losing blood (or was it health) as long as you don't eat. Uhm, hope I made sense here... ^^

@Pillock: There was a rumor once that if you were poisoned in DayZ you just should eat and drink til you dance the puke-a-roochie. NOPE! All it'll do is drain water and food from your system. If you are poisoned, once it is actually working, charcoal tabs are probably the only thing to do / take when poisoned.

*tries out portable gas stove* Aaahhh, it's getting much warmer and more dry already... and that beautiful smell of my jacket bursting into flames after my shoes caught on fire... Wait... wha..aaaaahhhhhhhh Kill me! Kill me with Fire!!!!!!
-
Welp, I have no idea why, but I lost my backpack after logging in about 8 minutes ago. My backpack with all my bandages and food. Not to worry, I also lost my shoes but kept my pants :-P Due to the new and more aggressive yet just as glitchy Zambies, currently I am bleeding and have lost all I accumulated through out this mornings raid. I am not whining because of "all the stuff" I lost. I am whining because I lost some essential stuff that's necessary since yesterday's patch. Like bandages / rags. At least I still have my trusty fire axe. Whaaa... Whaaaa... Somebunny call a Whaaambulance... Is this a server bug or just dayZ being glitchy in general?
-
Yarp! If you're dying, you might as well do it from hunger as well as bad food.
-
this waiting time to join a server sucks!

Are you talking about the timer? Or are you stuck on the Wait for Host screen? The first is not fixable, the second one is being worked on. -
Mrozu and Guppy: Thanks! That was pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Can't wait till Painkillers, Water Tabs and Vitas actually do something now that I have this info. BTW: My hat is off to the TMWD! It takes some serious commitment to be this in depth about a game, and I love every video / answer / experiment you do about it :-)
-
Once you stay dry for about 15 minutes, you should be good to go again... When I am soaked, all I want is to start a nice widdle fire in a log cabin and sit there and listen to the thunder and rain with a nice glass of wine. Or Pipsi, for that matter :-)

...on the floor...And I'm limping like I've never limped befooooore! HA! Good lord, I feel like adapting the lyrics to the song and making it a viral youtube video right now LOL So RLS? (Restless Leg Syndrome)... still better than LRS (Legless Rest Syndrome) ^^ But seriously: Anyone had this before? What do I do?

Thank you for this post. I agree, everyone sees different flaws and things needtobelikefixedrightNOWZ, but hey, these folks are working hard. Tempers rise and fall, that's life. I have my problems with the game, but I can always decide to take a break (without making it public by saying how crappy it is), and come back to the next patch and see what happens. So yeah, thanks devs. Appreciate the constructive criticism and know that you and your work are appreciated. Someone will always have beans... I mean beef.. with Patches and updates. Change the way you look at things and the things you look at will change.
-
I already tried to do that, but the results are flawed due to zombie attacks. I'm still trying to figure it out. That is why I was asking if anyone actually had a clue, ya know? :D

While this thread is still somewhat new, I have NOT broken my leg. I can run and vault, but it still gives me a status saying that my leg is extremely painful. Since painkillers don't do anything (yet), should I even worry about it? Is it a bug? Is it saying that my leg may be broken if over used in the near future? I no unnastand :-( Helps pwease!

I'm always staying out of the rain just to practice what it may do later. At some point, you may become sick if you get soaked, or cold, which may even lead to hyperthermia (the latter I pulled out of my hiney, but I'm trying to think realistic survival here^^) Right now, it doesn't do anything except give you those status updates damp / wet / soaked. Just really, just for practice, see how long and strong rain lasts, hide under a tree as soon as the first drops fall, just play it on the safe side so it becomes second nature once that update hits when it actually does do something ;-)

So, I spawn, feed and clothe my character and all that happy crap, and eventually also kill a couple of zedskidoodles along the way. Then I get bored and I want to, say, check out the interwebz. So I park my happy widdle avatar where ever (mostly upstairs now that zombies respawn and they still can't climb stairs), and I go and watch a movie on netflix, or do whatever. (like, you know, actually accomplish something productive ^^) Every once in a while I check in on my DayZ-Gotchi. I feed it, water it, and maybe hunt / scavenge for some more food, then park it again. I can do this all day or until the server quits, but I find it a fun way to still be "in-game" but in kind of a waiting mode until the next patch comes out. Sure, when I want action, I just go on high-pops and engage and all, but for the quieter, more "RL" busy days, it seems cool to just check in with your char and feed it ^^ Is anybunny else as screwed up as me?
-
Rule #1, dude: Don't get attached to your gear ;-) (Actually I am really scared of succumbing to the Z's now. If I have no weapon as a fresh spawn, I would have to run all the time, barely ever able to pick up any loot. Survivalist, yes. Suicidal? NOPE!) I have to keep this char alive for a while yet, and that's what I'm planning on doing.
-
Mako, just hang out in one of those green no-loot-spawning buildings, low yield farmhouse or whateva ya call it. I have been going ever since 5.30 a.m., and it's now almost ten o' clock. I am fine by just checking in every 45 minutes or so. And no, I can't wait until somebody calls my gameplay boring, stupid, cheating or cowardly. When you have stuff to do but you're home all day, I don't see any problem with it. Choose a medium pop server, get your char up and running as far as food and water goes, and every half hour take a look see and replenish what you need. Once rain starts making you sick, you might have to hang in one building for about 20-30 minutes. So I just decided to get used it earlier ^^
-
Yeah, just call it Zomb-A-Gotchi. There ya go. You're welcome :P

Wow, never knew that... Then again, I'd love to have the mod global chat, where all the kiddies go "Hey, where are you, I'll pick you up" and "Friendly at Balota?" But having this to require a walkie talkie does not make me happy. I don't need it that bad, I guess ^^ -
LOL, unfortunately I do not urinate on wells, since there is no option / need for peeing / pooping (and thank GOD for that!) I know, I am a horrible person, but I will not leave my char unarmed, and I check in regularly. I am an light green in energized and hydrated, and I am healthy. I intend to keep it that way. And oh no!!! Not the Prevention Police!!! I intended to make warm skin-blankets out of my avatars if they do die a unforeseen death! How am I supposed to keep warm without my ava-skin??? Gawd, this thread is so de-railed... Oh mighty OrLoK, give this thread a chance, I call upon you to let this one live as it provides much amusement to some of us! And @WindowLicker: I see a bright future for our future conversations ^^

That sounds actually pretty good, but you still have to use your mouse / computer for direction (where he runs). Auto Run sounds nice, but shouldn't there be an auto-run option in the game itself? like double tap W or something? I'm German, so luckily I got the gist of it, but it doesn't wanna make me scream and yell for the developer to shut up and take my money... Even if it's free... But Global chat? WTF did I miss there? Is there a global chat function, really?
