In over 420 hrs. of DayZ, this is my nemesis. Not once, not a SINGLE time have I ever encountered one of these darn things! First things I look for instead are bayonets and my trusty fire axe. Bayonets seem to get ruined fairly easy when opening cans, but no worries, even in that state they are doing a fabulous job :-)

So... in the past four weeks, I somehow kept getting killed surpisingly often at wells or fountains or whatever they're called. Tulga, Balota, Kamenka. (Elektro and Cherno wasn't that surprising.) And a couple of other small towns as well. Most of the times I was able to hear at least a gunshot, other times it just goes all black and 'you are dead'. But seriously - is there someone sniping at popular "gathering spots" like fountains instead of stalking rooftops now? Seems like a nice strategy to KOS, you don't even have to be that far away in most cases. But it just has picked up so much in recent weeks that I am starting to wonder... Anybody else had this happen? Or did anyone actually try to snipe folks who are looking for a drink of water?

Not bad for Starters. Try to use Paragraphs in order to make it easier to read. When you have a real long text, most people won't read it, unless it looks somewhat organized. I like how we are getting a bit of Background Story. This could be interesting. Will you end the journal if your character dies and start a new one once you spawn again?
-
Dang it, Irish, I didn't even think of that. Then again, the general idea already exists, so I hope this wasn't oil into the fire. I also think it's a total butthead move, cause in the Kamyshovo area I was nothing but a fresh spawn, with a checked shirt and a hard hat. I have weened myself off gear-hoarding so I didn't lose much and wasn't butthurt about losing what I had. I just got a little aggroed that I had been alive for maybe about 20 minutes and having to start over already again.

Yes, that's what I think too. If you are filling up bottles / drinking from a pump, it should be at least somewhat safer than drinking from a mucky pond (still water - more bacteria, flowing river, if ever implemented, less bacteria etc.)
-
Well, as of now, whenever I drink from a pump, the game says I drank from a pond... I have no idea how they're gonna eventually solve this but it doesn't seem quite safe...
-
Yeah, Tulga was what most surprised me. And hey, yeah, ponds and lakes and swamps are fine now, but what is safer once the update hits, when you need Water Purification Tablets? Fountains may not be safe either but might be safer than Ponds. I try to train myself to stay out of the rain already in anticipation of that one update where rain will lower your health, and also try to only drink from collected rain filled canteens... ^^ I will defintitely strive to pick up the habit of moving / strafing when at those pumps, but as I said before it's happened often. So I got shot in Tulga. Seriously, like what? And I'm like TULGA??? Really? Just when I thought I had a nice place to lay my head down at night. Grrrr... That just aggravated me. Meh, you die, you spawn, you loot, you fight, you run, you die - and a constant repeat. I'm so looking forward to the more survivor-ish updates!

Every single experimental server ive gone too has been looted already.

My favorite route is hitting up Kamenka, then heading to the military base / hospital, then over to Pavlovo. Kamenka has barely ever let me down. The Piano House there normally has decent stuff. But I agree, coastal Towns, besides being obvious High Kill Zones, get looted very fast. So unless you happen to be there on a server restart, I'd stay away from then or speed raid (hit 2-3 high payoff houses, then GTFO.) Kamyshovo seems to have it out for me these days. No loot, and 90% of the time there's people there who either KOS you or, if you try to communicate don't even answer but just keep running on / away. I'm gonna hit up Zeleno tomorrow and see what she's got for me :-) -
Yeah, I mean High Kill Zones are a given, I just used them because I was really dehydrated (after getting killed by the fountain in... Kamenka and respawing in Kamyshovo, I think.) But in Tulga? There barely ever is anyone there and maybe I had just bad luck that day, but it's just really happened a bit too often for comfort. Someone hiding in a nearby house? Probably. I mean, who is such a fountain hogger? I'm not really annoyed by it, I die all the time anyway, but it just seemed to increase a LOT lately. Fountain Police? Water Security?

To the man with the cowboy hat and the respirator in Berenzino, Experimental, yesterday...
Demonica replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
To the sweet lady that tried her best to mend my broken legs yesterday: Thank you, and I appreciate the Mercy Kill as well. You stood over me with your Pitchfork like the Devil himself, yelling: "Die! Die! Die!" And I kept saying "I'm trying, I'm trying!" Then you asked if I was dead yet, and I was only unconscious and apologized for being such a hard kill. Thank you, only other female player I've met so far! -
Hey Guys, so I guess no one really knows for sure, but I'd like to pick your guys' brains a little. Sometimes when taking my morning jog through some smaller towns, I pass by building materials like stacks of 2x4's or stumble over bricks at constrution sites (makes sense, duh.). But: when I see those materials, does that mean those will be actual spawn sites for them later, once base building and vehicles are implemented, or will they stay decorative, or will the material behave like any other loot and spawn somewhat randomly in size and numbers? What was that like in the mod? Can we use the mod to conclude what's it gonna be like in the SA version? Cause heck, if we can foresee which material spawns where, I'm sure there'll be campers up north hogging the places for their own bases ^^ Happy trails!

Hey Guys, so I translated it from Russian and it should be " visnaya dolrovka" or at least something similar, but I just can't find that position on the map. Did I translate it wrong? Would someone please eb so nice as to tell me where I am and what the closest bigger cities are? Thank you in advance :-) Happy trails!

Spawn whereever Loot and grab as much food as possible Find Fire Axe Open cans with Axe just in time before starving Hog drinking fountains / lakes Look for sweet places with base-building potential once it's implemented Find a nice house to just hang out and read in-game books Find another house Eventually get killed and start over

Help! Can't find my location on the day z map
Demonica replied to Demonica's topic in New Player Discussion
Ah, perfect! Thank you so much. I really was confused because of that second word. So, Dubrovka it must be then. If anybody else knows that first word on the sign, please let me know, just out of curiosity. "Entering" might actually be close, but I'm sure I haven't seen this on any of the other town signs. Normally, when you're leaving there's just this red line crossing the name through. Thanks again, I appreciate your help!! -

Help! Can't find my location on the day z map
Demonica replied to Demonica's topic in New Player Discussion
I don't have a compass, I try to orientate myself via the map and the town names. So much for that LOL. I'll post a screenshot by tonight. Thanks! -
Once I figured they are readable I looked up the list of available books in the DayZ Wiki, and believe it or not, they have Robinson Crusoe! I haven't read that book in ages, and hunting for this title ingame is so much more fun than just Googling it up. How much fun is it to actually chase something in game that you can use in real life? Can't wait to find it, but I think there are about 100 titles out there, so it'll take a while. Awesome idea and I 100% approve! Thanks Devs! Great inspiration!

Don't give him any ideas now... Let's keep the Mods in mind who have to clean up his rage tears all over the place... 360Nation: Patience, Dear, it'll happen when it happens.

Well, let's see here... 33 years young, moderate smoker, somewhat athletic, no weapons except for a katana (I'd go all "The Walking Dead" over their dead asses ^^) , barely any stockpiles of food. I live in a quiet suburb with two medium size strip malls. I own a pick up, a smart fortwo and a mountain bike. There are three large food stores in my close proximity and several convenience stores for cigarettes and beer as well as a Liquor Store. I mean, c'mon - it's the apocalypse and you're drinking water?^^. If I could find a house built with only little glass (windows / doors), I might make it the first week. Then again, I have my puppy dog to worry about. But I'm sure he'll be good once I figure out if I prefer him baked or pan fried oO Mentality: Not a leader. If people are willing to protect and shelter me, I will take care of emotional traumatized folks who might need a friend. Definitely not a fighter, although that might change in the blink of an eye. I've never been in a truly life threatening situation, it's gonna be either fight or flight for me, I'm giving flight a 70% chance. Talents: Yeah, of course! I can wiggle my ears, eat a bag of chips a night, and according to my dog I give awesome belly rubs. Seriously, nothing even close to survival skills. I'd be so lost... ^^ Damn, now I'm even scared of starting DayZ again :-/

Yeah, I actually had to take a break for a few days because i could never get over the paranoia / fear of dying / sudden zombies you didn't notice. When I statrted playing, I jumped and almost yelped every damn time a Zambie came after me. Once I got used to it, it got better, but not by much. My heart races like crazy, my hands are dripping with sweat (Glad I have a waterproof laptop ^^), and sometimes even after I leave the game I can't shake this really weird scaredness. On the other hand, I drive by watery, flooded pastures and think that I could fill a waterbottle up, I see folks with backpacks and think of other players, I look at some houses and it's crazy how they look almost like some houses in game. Maybe that's why the game doesn't let you go that easy. There's familiar stuff all around sometimes. Also, I probably should mention that I live right by a small airport in Oregon, and drive past it almost daily, and all I think is "This is not Balota, I will NOT enter at night climbing the ACT!" So yeah, it does have certain effects. Love it. Hate it. Play it. Cheers

What's demo-friendly mean? That nobody's nice to me? True ^^ Seriously, I don't quite get that. What do you mean by demo friendly? -
Need some extra help? Backup from bandits? Security services for Hire! Post Here!
Demonica replied to Ulysses404's topic in General Discussion
I doubt OP meant money as far as donations go but rather ingame donations such as beans, bullets or med supplies. People seem to get so worked up so fast, it's almost sad to watch. Let's give each other a break here. Personally I like the idea of a little RP, can't ever go wrong with that. If it's fun for you ingame, knock yourself out! That goes for everyone out there. Even the KOS'ers. While they may not stop doing what they're doing, the allow other players to have fun as countersnipers. That's gotta count for something. Peace, Love and Zambies -
So I just ran along the coast a bit for a quick supply run and was headed to Kamenka. It's day break, and as I lazily jogged on the road, I saw the sun poking through and around the trees. The colors turned everything into a slight peachy color. I could hear the waves crashing against the beach down on the coast, and the birds had just begun to wake up. I watched the shadows playing with the rays of the sun and admired the amazing paintings in the sky, swapping the mornings reddish beginnings into a clear blue sky. I can not remember when the last time was, that I just stopped in the middle of a game, just to take in the amazing, beautiful creation that is dawn in Dayz. Now I really want to head out to Devil's Castle and see what dawn looks like from the top of it.
-
Yeah, Ted, he's the puppy of my dreams. (He actually is really cute, just a lucky camera shot ^^) Is there anywhere in the interwebs where they would have pictures of the Devil's Castle at dawn? I checked out the gallery earlier (like 2 weeks ago) so I'll try again later.

I know this field. It's called the "NOPE" area! ^_^
