So many people saying that when they ask someone to put up there hands if the person doesn't they shoot them, you know what I've realized (and I don't have 1000 hours on the game but I have close to 200 hours on it)? I don't get robbed on Hardcore servers, Me and my friends have only had people say that on servers that you can 3pp. The reason is simply, the bandits are mostly cowards.. They use 3pp to look around walls at you or around corners. Most don't have a shot on you if you run because they are out of position and are looking over a wall to keep themselves safe. They only come out after you give up. This is why so many are willing to run, yes the occasional bandit that actually is looking down the sights at you happens, but it's a chance many will take. As to the OP, any game with PvP (especially open world PvP) is just asking for people to KoS. People that think this is going to change are crazy, PvP games draw a specific crowd part of which just loves to make your day suck for no other reason then to make your day suck. If you don't like dealing with a large percentage of people like that then give up because every game that I've played that has PvP is like that. Make it worse by having it a game where you lose everything when you die and it add to the people that aren't even going to attempt player interaction and just kill you when they see you. It's the nature of the beast.

I want random spawns, as in totally random across the map. I run north because I'm not hanging around the big three cities just to get sniped when I don't need to. I don't want to spawn north necessarily, it's the way the game is currently designed that has me going north to get away from people who enjoy messing with new spawns as well as new spawns that just want to mess with other new spawns. That's why I said I want random spawns as did many others. So no, I don't have a preference currently I'm just not sticking around areas that I know a bunch of people with different play styles then myself have. I'm not into fist fighting with new spawns, I'm not into fully geared people messing with me while I have nothing more then a message saying I'm thirsty so I don't stick around the areas they are in.

See by your definition any banditry could be griefing couldn't it? I could argue that stealing the gear it took me a long time to get (especially the little sight on my .45 and pristine LRS that took forever to find) is intentionally spoiling my experience just as much as killing me or breaking my legs. The word griefing IMO needs to be tossed out in this game because it doesn't work. The person that KoS's me because they are scared and I'm the first armed person the encountered is shooting me out of fear, although they killed me none the less. The person robbing me is doing so because they simply want to. To say either is better or worse doesn't make sense. The guy that breaks my legs and leaves me might think it's nicer then shooting me, so again is it griefing? It's all so subjective in a game like this I think it needs to be given up and that would shouldn't be used in this game. Honestly not wanting your game spoiled is why so many just KoS now. People don't want to take the chance that someone will leave them with no gear and broken legs, or handcuffed and fed cleaner or rotten food. People would rather take the chance in a shoot out then just submitting and hoping the bandit is "nice" to them. Once you know the game a bit you can regear faster then you can crawl to fix broken legs. I'd rather someone just shot me and took my gear kudos for them for getting the drop on me I guess. All that said, no matter if you call them bandits, highwaymen, griefers or whatever anytime you interject yourself into someone elses game and they don't want it you, by your definition, are griefing because odds are good that you are going to, to some extent, spoil there game play experience unless your completely friendly giving them beans. I don't hate anyone for how they play, they paid for the game, but I do dislike people that try to sugar coat what they do by being the nicest of the baddies. Oh, and I am not saying your the evil one, I was just using your definition of griefing.

Oh, I know, but like most others I am choosing option d (or 4) none of the above give me random spawn. Or e (or 5) doesn't matter if it's not random I don't care it's all the same. I'm simply turning north and getting away from any of them towns I spawn by anyway so it really doesn't matter what the name of it is. I was simply pointing out it's interesting most on here elected for random spawn is all.
-
I love that most people posting here say any random spot. That's what I want also. Developers should take note of this (and they might be for all I know). Gets people out exploring more then just the coast as well as eliminating new spawn camping. I don't see any downside to this.

Anyone else hide weapons to prevent others from looting them?
StoutAle replied to thequantum's topic in General Discussion
I don't do this with weapons, but I have picked up a LRS before and tossed it later in an area it probably wouldn't be found. Leaving a gun is one thing, setting up a sniper? That's a different issue to me. Plus the LRS fits easily in my bag till I find a place to drop it. -
Pistols too inaccurate as well as m4?!
StoutAle replied to Sgt.BigBeasty's topic in General Discussion
To the people saying it's perfectly logical to hit a target at 100m with a pistol I say show me. Stock pistol nothing changed or added to it and hit head shots at 100m. CAN it be done? Sure, but given the fact that in DayZ they haven't designated any survivors as anything but Joe Average types that simply isn't happening. Most people walking around without any real training would have issues hitting a human at 100m with a pistol let alone a head shot. I'm talking just shooting targets mind you, lets not even get into a firefight where you are getting shot at and carrying a backpack full of gear maybe after running. If you want to understand a real shootout with weapons close to what you use in this game (9mm and .357's were used prominently) some 100 rounds fired at distances MUCH closer then 100m and 18 rounds hit the suspects. 18% of the rounds fired by FBI agents actually hit the targets, not the targets heads, the targets entire body. As this shootout was initiated with an FBI agent spinning the suspects car around most rounds were shot from closer then 50m and honestly probably closer then 20m. The shootout was 1986 FBI Miami shootout. So we can talk about accuracy and what someone who's not being shot at can hit with his dads best friends pistol at 100m all we want, when most shoot outs have happened in real life it works more like this games mechanics do. Now you can say "when I shoot at a wall without a back pack on and kneeling the weapon is still not accurate!@!!@". To that I say .. ok? The game mechanics work pretty well with pistols during the actual firefights. So they don't have mechanics in game to make the difference between shooting at a wall or in a firefight, that's ok. Understand that even if you have the "drop" on someone your adrenaline is flowing before you pull that trigger and you'd be shocked at how many people miss a "dead to rights" shot at close distances. This isn't speculation it's simply facts at that NYPD and LAPD did studies over years and realize that the trained officers on duty have missed about 70% (depending on the year) of the shots they fired at a target. This is talking about trained (how well we can dispute, but trained none the less) police forces hitting targets at a rate of roughly 30%, oh and officers are usually shooting at targets under 10 yards, also a statistical fact. I honestly think of people would do a little research on how things ACTUALLY happen in firefights instead of what they can do to a target or a deer or a whatever at ABC distances they would realize that the devs have firefights with pistols in this game down pretty well, can they be tweeked some? Sure. Are they as unrealistic as people want you to think? Based on actual shoot outs that happen? No. Don't let the facts get in the way of things though. -
I forgot that, my respawn basic M4 only goes to 300, I forgot the acog does 700. Thanks for fixing that for me.
-
I don't know if you can hit someone from 700m with an M4, I honestly think you would have a hard time with it given it only zeros to 300m (if I remember right). The LRS won't connect to your M4 (not sure if you knew that, your post made it sound like you were wanting it for the M4).

My guess is you shout him and he logged out. Maybe as he was dying or maybe he wasn't dead. I've never seen a body disappear as quick as you say without someone logging out.

Lets discuss what is 'Cheating' and what isn't
StoutAle replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Your getting into opinion and stretching the concept of a bug and exploit. When I first started playing MMO's (EQ at release) I didn't realize how horrible my monitor was, I was running around in complete dark and it wasn't because of the game it was my horrible video card and monitor. I played like that for a while before I realized I could change it with the gamma and have a chance to survive. When you say "the gamma is to make night look like night" can you define what that is? Its completely opinion as to how dark night is because some people have seen pitch black and some never have. As I said, I think moving the gamma makes it easier and simply isn't needed. If you want to play at night use a flashlight, the thing is that's my opinion and if others don't believe that it doesn't mean they are exploiting or cheating it just means that opinions vary. If it's an in game function and you use it as the developers designed it to be used (gamma brightens/darkens the game, it's the purpose of it) your playing within the parameters of the game. It's not how I'd play, but it's not an exploit or a cheat. -
Lets discuss what is 'Cheating' and what isn't
StoutAle replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
I agree it's pretty weak to crank up the gamma, but couldn't someone say "if they didn't want me to change the gamma it wouldn't be available in the night version of games?" it's actually your very own argument (if they give you a flashlight they expect you to use it) isn't it? I think night should be dark, I think to see you should need a light source unless it's full moon. With that said it falls under the 3pp for me. Everyone looks around corners using it so if you don't your handicapping yourself. Gamma at night works the same. In game setting that makes it easier (by far) but isn't cheating and is commonly used. -
May not be the best weapon but it adds a very high cool factor when you are poking something violently with a pitch fork.
-
Accidentally hit you.. twice? I respawned and had a kitchen knife in my hands (mainly for opening cans I found) and I stabbed a zombie a bunch of times and he never died. Your better off running then fighting them with a screwdriver or kitchen knife. Not saying they can't be killed with them weapons, but they are horrible.

Lets discuss what is 'Cheating' and what isn't
StoutAle replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
I think people make up there own rules for "cheating" based on what THEY are willing to do. Gamma adjusting.. not cheating. Reason it's not, anyone can do it. It's not an UNFAIR advantage if everyone can do it. TS? Not cheating. DayZ runs on Steam. Me and my friends use Steam voice chat and it works just fine. Anyone can do it. Trading with others, having friends gear you, server hopping etc etc etc isn't cheating because anyone can do it that means the "unfair advantage" isn't really there. People are confusing what they think the game should be or the morals they put on themselves with cheating. I think playing the game without a voice chat with real life friends is silly because half of the time we are talking about non game related stuff anyway. It's just giving friends a chance to talk and not be bored. Does it help if we are engaged in a firefight? Sure, not saying it doesn't. Is that the reason we use it? Not at all. Can anyone use it? Yes, if you run Steam you can use the voice chat just like we do. On the rare occasion I played on a night server I used a weapon flashlight to see, I didn't adjust the gamma. It was dark, really dark, like can't see loot at all dark. People can argue how dark it actually gets outside all they want and depending on where you are it is different. Anyone who says it doesn't get pitch black out simply hasn't ever experienced it, it does exist. None of that matters though because while changing the gamma to see is weak and not how it is intended to be played it's not actually cheating because anyone can do it, hence once again the "unfair advantage" isn't there. If you hack to teleport around or get gear you didn't find that's cheating. Everything I named can be done with the software loaded on the computer to play the game either in game or through Steam, hacking the game with other software is cheating. Using what's given to you in the game might be weak, it might not be how some play and you might be making the game easier then intended but it's not "cheating" IMO (and based on the actual definition of the word). -
Loot tables are quirky, never know when something is going to be elusive so I carried a hacksaw around for like a week before I found a shotgun. Of course I found enough hacksaws at that time I could have built a house from them just not the shotgun. Murphy lives in DayZ just like real life.

Should I start DayZ Mod this late in the game?
StoutAle replied to Grimey Rick's topic in New Player Discussion
Like the OP I got the SA first, got somewhat bored (not complaining, just a fact) so I looked into the mod. Your thread is kind of ironic really, the SA has it's share of hackers also, the difference is instead of hackers flying to loot sights they umm.. well they don't do much because there isn't much to loot. So your options sound like fight hackers for loot or deal with them trying to KoS you either way hackers suck. Instead of zombies no-clipping through walls in the mod they just ignore walls in the SA. Rocks breaking legs? SA has that feature too, it's an alpha game so it has lots of bugs like that actually. My point isn't to bash the SA game, I really do like it and keep playing it actually, it's only to point out that every issue you pointed out as "bad" in the mod the SA has also. Only difference is the mod has more things to do currently. Doesn't mean it's "better" just means it really is a viable option to people that haven't ever tried it out. -
Do you think it is way too easy to upset someone in this game?
StoutAle replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
A. Maybe you are a hacker so I can't comment on why you get called this. B. Well, truth be told, if you simply shoot someone that is no threat to you, it's nothing less then a sucker punch which is cowardly. IMO this is actually fair. C. This goes back to B for me, what's the purpose of killing a fresh spawn, unless they are attacking you of course. Someone spawning fresh on the beach, you have no idea if they just got glitch killed, KoS'd, lost a tough firefight or are a true fresh spawn. There emotions are high either way and to have someone kill them while they are simply looking for bare essentials is going to push them emotions higher. I can see where someone would cuss you. So honestly it seems like the responses you get are kind of what you should expect from the average person based on the actions you listed. I'm not saying it's how I would react, just saying when you look at what you described it's not unreasonable to expect people to react like this. -
I have to wonder if you look very well at all. I played several hours yesterday and my friend got killed while we were in a barracks and in the few hours we played we ran across three of them. It's a tiny, often dark item (unless it's only worn or pristine) I bet a lot of people pass right by them and don't realize it. 420 hours? You have passed many, many of them.

I don't play 3pp anymore sense I have figured out how to kill the motion sickness with changing the settings. I actually wouldn't ever play normal server but I have friends that I play with that like it (and they use 3pp constantly). I understand why people use it on servers that allow it, "everyone else is" so they do. I don't mind people using it, play like you want if your not hacking, I just think the game loses something when you use it. I know it's not for everyone but IMO I just think it's a bit odd to be able to see around a corner or over a fence that you couldn't ever see around or over in real life without any risk.

I just made a fundamental* mistake and paid* the price.
StoutAle replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
I honestly thought you were going to describe a death from climbing a ladder reading the topic. -
If I think we should or shouldn't have them I have to wonder why we "need" them? Just wondering the thinking on this, not saying your wrong.
-
I don't see how this game (as the current map is) could support aircraft of any kind. It's not that big to start, regular land vehicles are going to make it so fast to cross the map it's going to be trivial to get from point a to point b.

Hey...I see you....put your hands up.....
StoutAle replied to River Lizard's topic in General Discussion
There's only 1 thing you have to trust if I am holding you up, and that's that I will shoot and hit you if you don't drop it... So you might as well. That's what you said.. that's pretty billy badass isn't it? So you don't miss? The game doesn't ever glitch in your world? See you don't even really realize how this debate went the direction it has because you don't realize how you have come off and what you have said. You have sense changed quite a bit but you can't hold what I said when you were being mister one shot one kill hold up bandit against me now that you have changed your tune. I said twice and I'll say it again if I misjudged you I am sorry, but it's only because what you posted. -
Hey...I see you....put your hands up.....
StoutAle replied to River Lizard's topic in General Discussion
No, again I never told you how to act or what to do, I simply don't agree with what you do. The ironic part of that statement if YOU have no problem telling people what to do in game. People don't assume anything, you said you hold people up to help them (remember I asked about this) you clearly don't need to stop people and hold them up if they are geared as well as you are. So I asked you about this and you said you hold the well geared ones up for the interaction of it. I haven't assumed a thing, I asked you to explain and made my decisions based on what you said. The problem is you have changed from billy bad ass "drop your gun or I'll shoot you" to much more calm "I judge things as they happen" guy. Again even when I said I'm sorry if I miss judged you but it's only based on what YOU wrote here you get pissy with me. Seems your avatar is correct, I should have ignored you when I first saw that, that's my fault.
