Especially now that the zombies are beefed up some it's kind of annoying killing a zombie with full military gear as a new spawn and not even getting clothes to bandage yourself off him. What kind of dumb ass is my guy that he's going to leave a zombie who's fully clothed there and walk away bleeding to death.

Are there gonna be mods like the ArmA ll DayZ for Standalone?
StoutAle replied to TheCookiemob59's topic in General Discussion
I starting playing the mod late but as I saw it the mods actually increased the availability of all loot, I don't recall ever seeing one that said "Less loot, hardly any ammo, really tough zombie hoards that one shot you". -
I play both HC and Normal, I have been saying that HC is more friendly. I have never had an attempted robbery on a HC server. People do it on 3pp servers because they can stand behind a wall and act like they have you in there sights. They "see" you without actually having any risk of being shot hoping you don't realize that. People can see around corners and doors without any risk. They know that no one is behind that fence because they see over it when it's 2 feet taller then they are. 3pp takes all the risk out of playing because you can see before you do. Yes, so can everyone else, that doesn't take away the fact you can do things that should put you at risk without having any of the risk. That said I understand the motion sickness part, it kicked my ass to start before I got the settings right. Because of this 3pp is needed, some people simply can't play in first person without getting sick. Other then that I wish 3pp would go away. You want to see me, stick your head around the corner and look for me stop being a pansy.

I agree I'd love a balance like you want and I'm playing in hopes that happens also and like you if it ends up a finished product that is more PvP the survial game then I'll move on at time time. Lucky for me the carrot on the stick of "end game" is a long time away so I can keep playing and hoping it ends up what I want to play.

I understand what your saying, but I think it's crap you justify server hopping because gear is tough to get or not wanting to run all over the map to get it. You feel bad because you know it's not the right way to get gear, you justify it to try to make yourself feel better your still part of the problem even if your a nice guy with a conscience. Not trying to bag on you, but you jumping servers because you don't want to run around from town to town is pretty weak. Clearly server hopping is almost accepted practice or at least commonly done so your not alone in doing it, but it's still annoying to a guy trying to loot things "legit" when a server resets and you see a flood of people for 10 minutes then the server is stripped bare and the server pop drops from 10 to 15 to 3 in that time.

Nope, I simply said that every other game that has open world PvP draws a crowd similar to what we currently have on this game. People who simply want to grief, people who KoS because they are worried about the griefers and then "others". The two crowds I mention simply end up tainting a lot of the "others" because it becomes shoot or be shot in a lot of situations. That's based on seeing games from FPS and RPG's to full scale MMO's have or add in open PvP and what happened to them over and over. I could be proven wrong, I just don't think that's the case. People are who they are, enough of them will play a PvP game just to make others life on that game suck. With people like that around others turn into "fear shooters", they don't want to KoS but they also don't want to be KoS'd or robbed so they simply turn to shooting first and asking questions second. Again it's just the nature of PvP. Oh that doesn't even take in account the "lazies" who find a fire axe and see someone with gear and they figure it's easier to kill that person and take the gear then earn their own. Simply to many variations of people who all end up killing others without ever wanting to actually interact with them for a game with open PvP to not turn into death matches.
-
Have you tried starting over? I have killed my character on HC servers often just to build back up. This is especially fun now that the new patch went live. Zombies are harder, quite a bit of new loot types to get, new areas and buildings to see and loot. Maybe I'm the minority but to me the journey to being fully outfitted is more fun then when I get that way.
-
This could be, I have had so many situations where I was doing every logical thing to avoid getting shot but simply put at some point you have to move out of cover to loot stuff and in doing that I was killed without a word being said. Again I use to be the ballistic helmet, gas mask type but I have gone to more civilian clothes to try to fix the stereotype image and I still get shot/shot at for no reason quite a bit.
-
I also disagree with you on this. Every open PvP game I have ever seen (even games with PvP only servers or PvP only areas) always turn into death matches. PvP draws that type of crowd in every game. Toss in the fact this is a hardcore game overall (meaning when you die you start over from nothing) and it's going to always draw people that simply like to grief and when you have people like that you will have people that simply kill everyone because they won't take a chance the person they meet isn't going to just kill them. Now the percentage of either of them two types of people might not even make up the vast majority but as we have seen in this game the number just increases. Now lets take this game and add in more "fun" stuff. Toss in possible skill levels to raise as you advance in the game, as they have talked about. You think people will KoS less when the character has more built up then they have not? Obviously not, they will be more protective them more they have worked to get where they are. So adding in more to do won't lessen the KoS, other games have proven that to be untrue. Griefers and hardcore PvP players won't care about the other stuff, they will simply still make it a death match as much as they can which will cause more "fear shooters". It's the nature of open PvP games.

Again I wouldn't say your lying, I will say your the exception by far not the rule. I got shot twice in two days both not in Electro both in smaller towns and both were KoS. I almost never meet someone that doesn't shoot me as soon as they see me. That said, no I don't wear a mask of any kind. I don't usually have on a ballistic helmet, I never use a mosin on my solo guy (the guy that was killed recently). My "loadout" the last two times consisted of a pitchfork once and a sporter the other. Hardly a hardcore killer in the making. Again you are simply very lucky.
-
I'd rather be shot, just my opinion. Also, if you take my stuff I'll do what I can to kill you. I won't rob you I'll simply shoot you when I see you again. I've said it before I don't play the game to be your fun I play it to have my own fun. I don't mind being shot, I don't mind someone trying to hold me up (won't ever happen mind you because one of us is going to shoot the other) I don't mind someone camping and killing me when I open a door. Thing is that's all reasonable in a zombie apocalypse every one of them things could and would happen in that situation so I can't fault someone for doing any of them things I just act accordingly. As I have stated before, I have only been held up on 3pp servers. In all the time I have played on Hardcore servers I have never been held up. I figure the reason is you can't look over fences and around corners on hardcore so you can't say "drop your gun" and still be safe on hardcore servers. If you can see me I can see you. This is also why I'd never surrender on a 3pp server (or a HC one, but that never happens) because my experience is most guys (not all mind you, I've been shot doing this..) don't have a shot when they say they do. They are around a corner or behind a fence or such. If you simply run tactically away most can't shoot at you. This is also why I figure most "robbers" (avoiding the bandit term) are cowards and only do it when they can rob you from around a corner or behind a fence or do it when they outnumber you. There is no skill in robbing someone when your 3:1 over them or are hiding using 3pp to see them.
-
Your telling us that only 1/10th of your player interaction on servers with at least 25 people while hanging around on the coast involves gunfire? I will never say your lying because I don't watch you play, but anyone with anytime on this game that plays on high pop servers on the coast would question this a bit. Again not saying your lying, but I'm saying I'm thinking your numbers might be a bit exaggerated to make the story sound better.

We currently have this, Hall doesn't like it he's said so. If he truly wants what he said in that quote then he doesn't need to change a thing. Clearly he's not happy with all the KoS (which is the cause of tension with players) so for anyone to suggest everything he said in that clip is what will happen is simply wrong. Oh and lets be completely honest, games go where the money is and Dean is leaving we all know that so his thinking and concepts only hold so much weight anyway doesn't it? Dean said he's not a fan of PvE, Dean is leaving. The next guy might believe money is more important and realize that having some PvE servers will make them more money and not hurt a damn thing to the people that want to not use them (characters not being transferable from one to the other of course). I have yet to see a game that wasn't swayed by the bottom line of money, this game will not be any different. Deans visions, concepts, hopes, dreams and promises for the game are temporary because he's said he's not staying so again quoting him and acting like it's fact forever doesn't work. Quoting him from Oct of 2012 really doesn't make it solid fact, like anything else it's what he sees at the time and if you asked him if the game is working as intended he's already said no so things will change it's the nature of making a game.

They are all bandits IMO.

Do bandits really exist on DayZ Standalone?
StoutAle replied to TheModernGamer94's topic in General Discussion
guy says he doesn't shoot on sight and you tell him he does? Wow, how's it feel to know everything about everyone? I haven't once shot on sight without asking if they are friendly or being shot first. That's simple fact, I have some 200 hours played and my friends started well before me and play the same way. Just because you shoot fresh spawns or KoS doesn't mean everyone does. Don't try to justify yourself by saying "everyone does it" because it's not true. The term bandit is clearly over used. When you said you have killed fresh spawns, and didn't say only when they try to punch you to death, that pretty much sealed the deal on you being a bandit IMO. -
This video is from 2012..? while I'm sure it still holds true that PvE servers won't happen are you going to tell me that everything that was though about from the devs in 2012 are the exact same as they are now? I'm not saying we need PvE servers mind you, I'm only saying if your going to "stop it in its tracks" then maybe find something a bit more recent?

I don't understand how a "DayZ forum team" member can not understand that you can't simply respawn. Hasn't this topic been brought up before?

Your fighting an up hill battle here, I've mentioned this before (as have several others) and you will constantly get people that claim that true "dark" outside where you literally and yes I do mean literally can't see a foot in front of you doesn't exist. I do believe it's like you said and it simply revolves around where you live. I was stationed in Washington State and I'll tell you in the woods at night you don't see anything. In the open if it's not full moon or close you don't see much better. There is a reason Kevlar helmet cover bands have "cat eyes" on the back you simply can't see the guy in front of you without them. As for the game, night time is simply broken because you either adjust the gamma/brightness to where it looks like day time anyway or your playing from behind because everyone else does that. Makes it so there is no reason to play night time servers at this time.

When on regular server with my friends we play good guys fighting the good fight not shooting unless we have to helping newbies as we can. When they aren't on I play hardcore server and its more fun. First thing I do when I log on is kill myself (getting tougher, you think it's easy to jump from buildings, there are a lot of them you can't jump/fall from). Then restart as a new spawn and I love it. Especially with the new patch. Game was never more fun then it was yesterday running around an area I hadn't been in (I usually run north, this time I ran up the east coast more) with new buildings and gear to find. You don't appreciate a hospital or new police station near as much when you are fully geared as you do with just a pitch fork and a fractured arm.
-
Either make them normal spawn rate or don't have them (and I say don't have them or other "questionable" loot). Reason is nothing ramps up KoS like thinking the guy might have "Uber loot #3" in there back pack. You think friendly people is in short supply now? Try handing out ultra rare loot on a server and everyone will be killing everyone no matter what.

To each their own. I'd never ride a bike is this game. I can't see my tough guy survivor peddling along on a 10 speed or even a mountain bike. Just would feel silly to me.

To the man I killed in Balota Airfield barracks
StoutAle replied to DesertSage's topic in General Discussion
I disagree that someone "foolishly" logged into the barracks. If your new and it's the first barracks you ran into you have to have a sense of "wow possible good loot there" and realize logging out there is bad because when you log in someone else might be looting it. No, if someone spawns in a barracks odds are overwhelmingly good they are server hopping in which case they get what they get. -
This game has alot of people that make dumb decisions.
StoutAle replied to poodude28 (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
General discussion forum there is a thread where a guy explains he had a gun and was with a friend. Guys kills them both with a rake. Rake guy now has more loot. Risk vs reward. For all the axe guy knew your mosin wasn't loaded, was a chance he was willing to take given he was only going to lose newbie level loot no big loss. Not saying I'd do that, but I can see why someone would -
I kind of think it's a cool way to go out, getting beat with a rake. I actually grabbed a pitch fork instead of my fire axe simply because I think it's awesome to fork someone to death (zombie not player, although if we get into it and you let me I'll pitch fork the crap out of you). Beats getting sniped by someone 800m away. The irony is you had a gun and a bat as well as a friend, the other guy has a rake and you call it unfair... First thing you need to do is log back in, find your friend and punch him in the face (in game) for not helping you more. The guy killed you with a rake as your friend watched then also got killed.. with a rake. Trust me when I say you will look back on this and laugh after you learn the game a bit more and realize how easy that should have been rake guy getting killed instead of you two.

How do you stealthy ride a bike? While it's quiet (compared to a car or such) it's not like you can go tree to tree on a bike. I honestly don't see why people are so into wanting a bike, the map is so small it's not like it takes long to get from point a to point b in the first place. Seems to me a bike will just make the map seem even smaller, which isn't a good thing IMO.
