What items that currently spawn are considered "Rare loot" atm
StoutAle replied to TheLast-StaR's topic in General Discussion
Haven't found the engraved 1911 yet. Found one press vest and a few stab vests. Found one red dot sight for the FNX. Recently of course bolts are tough to find. Everything else I have had no problems getting. -
First something being less fatal sounds odd, it either is or isn't fatal. Second obviously modern day weapons fire faster and farther with more stopping power then a crossbow. With that said a quality crossbow will kill you just as dead as a modern day firearm. In a firefight you'd want the firearm obviously, if you get the drop on someone and want to be stealthy the crossbow would be perfect. It's a very situational weapon.

I come back to play the same reason I go back to other games that aren't perfect but I go back to.. nothing else has my attention at the time. Wouldn't take much to draw me away from this game currently, but as of right now there isn't another game that I am really drawn to. Has less to do with this game being great and more to do with the lack of any other game for me currently.

I picked up a crossbow, carried it in my hands for a while and actually had fun with it. Just fine for killing zombies but as others have said, not enough ammo as well as ammo taking up so much space in your inventory compared to other primary weapons as well as the long reload times simply makes it very rough to use as a primary weapon.

I'm with some others who said I don't like the SA over the mod. I actually never played the mod until after I go the SA but other then graphics the SA is pretty boring after you get geared up. I'm not complaining about it, I know that lots more is coming to that game and it's alpha and all that, I'm just answering the question.

Why do some players do everything possible to avoid interaction?
StoutAle replied to mithrawndo's topic in General Discussion
My question on this is do you use third party chat to play if your in a group? If so you are breaking the immersion also. The OP was talking to his sniper in 3rd party chat 500 meters away, in all honestly if we are playing this like real the sniper wouldn't have been warned the guy was running out of the barracks. Most people that talk about immersion only look at it from one side. -

So, if I'm the guy in the barracks I see it as this.. Three bullies (if there actually is 3 and the one isn't lying about the other two) corner me in a barracks and start demanding I do as they say or else. Hmmm, screw you. I'm not giving you the pleasure of talking to you. Your bandits, pansies that need to attack me 3 on 1, not worth my time or energy. You will get nothing from me because the first thing I'm thinking is "sure you have a sniper on the hill" I'm never heard THAT before. Second thing I'm thinking is if you do have one I can't win so I'll simply ignore you and not give you any fun in your banditry. You have made it hostile threatening me and coming at me 3 on 1, your punks who only attack in a group so I have zero chance of this ending well so why even acknowledge you? To answer your question, why do some players do everything possible to avoid interaction? It's really simple honestly and I don't know why it's so puzzling to people. The interaction in this game is only one way, at least to start. Do as I say or else. You have forced me to play the game as you want and that's not happening. Most people aren't going to just roll over for that and do as you demand. I don't know your intentions and given you have demanded me to do something, I'm always going to treat that as hostile, because it IS hostile. Even if your end goal is giving me stuff you have stopped me from doing what I want and made demands of me. At that point I'd rather lose my character then talk to you I wouldn't ever meet hostile with nice because it doesn't deserve it. I have ran into quite a few players in this game and never once have I asked one of them to drop their weapon, sure I get shot/shot at lots but I also end up just talking to people and moving on lots also. You don't HAVE to tell someone to drop/put the weapon away, you don't have to be threatening unless your a bandit or paranoid. 3 on 1 and you still acted like a tough guy and you wonder why someone would ignore you? Really? Edit. he didn't respawn on a new server with low blood, if you log out with handcuffs on you die unless this was changed in the last patch. -
I won't let someone rob me. Just not going to happen, shoot me I don't mind. Your not going to rob me, I'm not here for your fun I play the game for my fun and being robbed isn't fun.

You are fully geared, would you shoot these people?
StoutAle replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
You actually do understand, you said it yourself. The Mod drew a part of the ARMA 2 crowd. It was a mod, not a game itself. I have been gaming for 25 years and never heard of the mod until the SA came out. I'm not a FPS type generally but the whole survival deal got me to play it. I have a bunch of real life friends on Steam and none of them played or heard of the DayZ mod until we played the SA game. Everyone sees the SA on Steam so it draws a different crowd then the mod did. My kid plays CoD, has played it on PS for years and years. He doesn't understand why I don't KoS to the point it frustrates him because he has that CoD mentality. He is so use to just killing everyone he has that thought process. He also says "they will just kill you later". He hasn't played any other style because the concept of joining up to survive isn't in the games he's played. SA simply draws a different crowd then the mod did. It's going to be the wild west for the most part and I don't see a way they can realistically stop that. -
I wish we were forced to interact with others to survive...
StoutAle replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I wish it would work this way, it simply won't. The problem is when you walk up to the guy you have to hope he doesn't kill you wanting your food. If he is nice initially you have to wonder if he's still going to be nice when you find that first item you both need or are you going to be nice when he finds the item you have been wanting? Two people can cover twice the ground finding twice the amount of food? If your right then one person can cover half the ground finding half the food. Either way you survive on the same food, one way with risk the other way without. Most will chose the path without risk which is killing the guy or leaving him be. The other issue in a game that isn't in real life is third party chat. In real life players can't be setting up ambushes or calling for there friend to kill you because he's a fresh spawn. In real life the guy can't be having a chat with you as well as multiple others at the same time setting you up to get killed. So that's always in the back of peoples minds when dealing with someone they don't know adding to the risk. In order to get people to really team up you can't make things tougher, or make them want to live more that only makes them value there personal character more. You need to make it so when you team up you have an advantage you can't have when solo. Anything less and there becomes no advantage to teaming up. -

You do realize that the whole "befriending someone only to shoot them in the back" is a concept that cannibalizes itself right? You wonder why people simply KoS and don't trust others yet you have had people trust you only to shoot them later? First time shame on me kind of thing. I trusted someone only to have it be a trap so screw that I'll just kill people for now on attitude is what happens from that. You are actually only killing the very fun you like to have by.. having that fun. -
That is exactly what he wanted (and the other devs I'm guessing). The problem is it's almost impossible because of how FPS players are in open world PvP. The only reason I say "almost impossible" is because I guess anything is possible, it's just not realistic you can change how people have played games like this for years and years. Changing the fact some people will long in simply to cause hate and discontent and ruin others game experience isn't going to happen.

It's really not an argument. Dean said it wouldn't work. That doesn't make it true, but he said it because he realized how people are. Again I don't think there has been one long term successful open world PvP game that hasn't been simply a shoot out fest. My thinking is simply based on history of games with open world PvP and the fact you will always have people who log in for no other reason then to make others day suck. With people like that it makes others paranoid which makes them KoS more then they would normally. Kill or be killed mentality kicks in no game has been able to eliminate that enough to turn an open world PvP game into anything but that. -
As I said in another thread, the mod was just that, a mod. If you didn't play ARMA 2 there is a good chance you never heard of or played it. Standalone is a game, it's plastered on Steam and everyone sees it so it draws more then just a cult following. With that success it's going to draw a much wider variety of players then the mod did. The standalone actually plays like most open world PvP MMO's have in the past.

I honesty think spawns should be completely random on the map as long as there is a city/town somewhat close simply for needing loot for survival at this point. (you can't survive off berries as it stands).
