    For science!

Good to know. Thanks for the PSA!
  2. You have about 10 minutes after you die to get your stuff. As long as someone else doesn't get there first. As you said, pay more attention to health/hunger/thirst. Sucks to lose gear just over that.

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.

in my opinion, this is a solution in search of a problem. In any societal collapse situation, there will be people who KOS. We may not like it (I sure don't - it sucks), but it's just the way it is. For the purposes of the game, KOS keeps the tension level up at all times. Visually identifying heroes and bandits would ruin that. You never know when someone will take a pot shot at you. In most cases, you're probably safe since the map is rather large (unless you hang out in Cherno or Elektro). However, you never know, so you stick to the tree line instead of running down the road. It makes the game what it is.

    Post Your Gear So Far

Current Hardcore Experimental character - the basis for my avatar. The black cowboy hat is as close as I can get to a stetson in game. In a real zombie apocalypse that's one thing I'm definitely taking with me :)

    Beavis and Butthead Do DayZ

It's your turn to hold down the "w" key - I laughed. The cornholio bit needs more arms raised - I hate to admit that I've thought about that every time someones hands go up.
  6. As has been stated, you have to get off the coast, especially in the Northeast. Ever since they put the first police station up there and the new town north of the NEAF it's been very crowded on that part of the map. I was running around on a 40/40 experimental server last night and didn't run into a soul (zombies don't have souls, right?). I found so much food that my guy is now stuffed. He's sleeping it off in an undisclosed location while I slave away at the day job :) Just because you start on the coast doesn't mean you have to stay there. There's a lot of fun to be had inland.

    3pp Exploit

I'm a 1pp'er (is that a real term?) who only plays on hardcore servers. 3pp, aside from the wall glitches, isn't an exploit, it's just not realistic. That's my two cents, for what it's worth. I doesn't matter that both sides in a fight can use it, it's still not realistic. That being said, as long as it's in the game, it's a legitimate tactic, that's why I stay on hardcore. I'm fine with the way things are now: one hive for 1pp and another for 3pp. I think it's a great solution. As to "why all the hate"? It's the internet. Everyone has to complain about something :)

    Suicidal Zombie

At least you tried! Good video - I lol'd.

    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

I like the concept. I'd probably still play in fpp only because DayZ freaks you out enough without other players and zombies popping into existence like that. If this was implemented, I would play on regular servers again as it balances out the two play styles (regular vs hardcore).
  10. daisho - you make a good point. I think a lot of this will be fixed when a couple of things Rocket has stated are coming make it into the game: loot re-spawns and a reduction in the amount of military grade gear. I also think that some of the loot spawn points a bugged right now, so when that's fixed we'll all have more places to search. This won't completely kill server hopping but I think it will balance the game out for people who don't. I think the login timeout is a good start on getting rid of server hopping. I'm not sure if the debs can do much more without breaking the experience for everyone.
  11. Good post. I agree with it all, although I don't think this will stop the rage posts. I'd personally be embarrassed to write up some of the ways I've died. I may have been KOS'd a few times, but mostly it was because I was lazy and let myself be seen at all.

yo yo yo stop the press!

I tried it with green on experimental this weekend and it didn't give me the option to paint yet either. It's been reported in the bug tracker.
  13. cav_guy

    What would YOU have done?

In general, I stay away from the coast, except when the game forces me back there ;) However, in your situation I would have opened up on the bandits. You said you were looking for action, and you had the drop on some guys who were out bambi hunting. Sounds like a little action to me.

    DayZ Standalone For Macs?

Macs are a popular topic today - there's a slightly different thread in New Player discussion as well. I can confirm that it does work in bootcamp with windows 7. I'm running it on my 2012 retina MBP. I've had to turn the graphics settings down a bit, but it plays just fine.

DayZ SA performance and my systems bottleneck(s)

The big difference between your iMac and a regular desktop PC is the ability to swap out most of the components in a desktop PC. I don't think you can swap out the video card in the iMac, which as you noted probably has something to do with your issues. There's nothing inherently wrong with running DayZ on a Mac with bootcamp. I'm getting 25-35 FPS in most places on a 2012 retina MBP.
  16. I like they way they are on experimental as well. I killed one on the way into a building and got attacked on the way out by a new one. It keeps you on your toes much more than when they only spawned on server restart. As to how they spawn, I agree that just popping into existence out of thin air is a little weak. However, given the back story, rising out of the ground doesn't fit (really cool idea though). Maybe they can just spawn laying down and have to stand up so that popping into existence doesn't look so weird.

How many have you killed and why ?

2 so far in 94 hours. The first asked me to because his legs were broken and neither one of us had morphine or sticks. The second was a guy that shot me on sight, then tried to hunt me down and finish me off. That didn't work out very well for him ;) Also, this:
  18. cav_guy

How Did They Know My Player Name?

Did the first guy who shot you check your pulse before he turned his back on you? I've seen player names when I've done that on experimental.
  19. I did it myself when I switched computers a couple of weeks ago. Log into your steam account on the new computer, re-download the game (waiting for the download is fun:), and you're good to go.
  20. cav_guy

Are you addicted to this game?

I think I'm addicted. I hadn't played any games in months until I read an article about DayZ. I decided to try it out and have now given it 90 hours of my life. Gearing up and running into other players (both hero and bandit) is a lot of fun. No video game has ever sucked me in this much.
  21. cav_guy

    ahh combat loggers

Beans for a video from a hardcore server (or at least playing in fpp). Also love the fact that you go after snipers with a knife. Well played. Sucks about the combat loggers
  22. cav_guy

When you die... do you - ?

This. Although, not the first few times ;)
  23. cav_guy

Regular vs Hardcore: Why do you play?

lol - that's almost exactly how I started playing hardcore, back before I realized they were separate hives. I joined a hardcore server and thought I'd lost all of my stuff. I've stayed on hardcore because that's the way I like to play and in my opinion looking around corners/over walls without exposing yourself at all is cheating. YMMV.
  24. cav_guy

    How long to gear up?

I agree with this. When I started playing, I was in every house/barn/shed/etc... Then I spotted the pattern in the loot spawns and it changed the way I play. Better randomization would make restarting that much more interesting. I'm sure that's on the dev's to do list somewhere.
  25. cav_guy

    How long to gear up?

I said 3. I usually do it in a lot less time than that, but I always enjoy the time I spend back on the coast trying to start over. I almost always intend to go back to my corpse, but I usually end up getting distracted, finding different loot, and go off exploring in another direction. That's part of the fun of this game.
